Question - rename pdfs based on bookmarks in the files

I am totally new to javascript (have done some visual basic and other old-school programming).  I am scanning years of paper filing to searchable pdfs, and want to automate one important part of the process.  I suspect that what I need is fairly simple if you know javascript, but for me would be a big learning curve.
What I would like is a script that will
look at all the existing pdfs in a folder that I can specify each time the script is run
each pdf will already have one or two bookmarks (some will only have one; none will have more than two)
rename the file, using the first (or only) bookmark as the filename
change the create-date of the file, using the second bookmark as the date
save the file(s) in a new subfolder under the original folder - folder name unimportant
If the date is too problematic, then it is optional (the bookmark would be 'dumb' text, and the date format wouldn't be guaranteed the same for each) .
I've never run a script before, so please give (or point me to) the real basics, like, where do you save a script and run it from there -- all the ignorant questions!
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Acrobat JavaScript cannot do most of those things. It has no access to foldera, and cannot rename files. There are two creation dates (on on the file like any other file, one stored inside the file) and it won't do either of them either.

  • File is huge when combined or changed to PDF, how do I get the file to a normal size to print?

Files are to large to print once they are PDF, how do I get them to a normal 8x11 size to print?

So why is it when I send these PDF files to clients they are to large for clients to print?
If I send a combined PDF file that is 3817KB, which a client has said is to large for them to print.
I send it to our office manager, she will print it, scan it back to me as a PDF, it will come
back as 375KB, the client can then print the file.
My question is, was/is there something I need to change in the process of scanning, combining files
to PDF that would create a smaller size file when done?
    Sorry for all the confusion

Sorry, I'm lost.First I thought this was about page size. But you say it isn't. You say it's about file size.  You've combined files of 494 + 441 = 935 KB, and you get 944 KB. This seems fine and you say it is fine. So what is the problem? Are you now on still a third meaning of huge, about size on screen?

  • Query on PDF-BASED FOLIO - INTERNALS - ie .FOLIO files.

When we create  image based folio  and unzip the folio and see , we see all the non-interactive elements exported as jpeg and png.
I would like to understand  when the non-interactive contents are exported as png and jpeg.
In similar lines , when we create pdf based folio and unzip the folio, we see only base Content (IN Folio Spec terms, assetRendition  ) and assets of ScrollableFrame Overlay ( IN FolioSpec terms, overlayAsset) as  pdfs.
For rest of the overlays, the non-interactive content are still png/jpeg.
I would like to understand the rationale behind it.
Or is there any settings to force PDF for all overlays.

With the exception of MSOs and scrollable content, overlays are rasterized. Scrollable frames are exported as vector by default. MSOs raster by default.

Probably the file got corrupted during the download?  Download it again.
If that does not correct the problem, can you share that file download?

  • Batch Rename with additional "."s, drops the file extension. Request for "Keep File Extension" option...

I NEVER name files with extra "." s in the name. I realize that all OS's (even Windows) will recognize it, but I haven't gotten out the old mindset of 8.3 filenaming... Although I do use longer names. So... I was surprised to see that when I was renaming files as per a clients naming preference to add a period within the name, the file extension is removed.
    For example:
original file -  2014_10_31_1643.CR2   when batch renaming to "2014.31" + sequence, drops the "CR2" extension.
but.... if I change it to "2014_31" + sequence, the ".CR2" remains
Since adding multiple "." is a legitimate naming convention, shouldn't the file extension remain?  Or, possibly this could be made more flexible by adding a check box "Keep file extension"
    just a thought.

    Refer to this stackexchange article:
    http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/47319/how-can-i-make-os-x-recognize-new -file-extensions
The finder will only select the filename only for "known" file types.

  • Opens same PDF each time, regardless of the file.

I use a website where I can view my past purchases as a PDF. The first PDF I look at opens fine. If I close that and view another PDF, the previous PDF is displayed. It is like the first PDF I view sticks in the cache or something and it always is displayed whenever I open another file. If I go away for 15 minutes and try again, it works. But then the problem repeats.
I have tried reinstalling Reader and clearing my temp files.
    Any help would be appreciated!

    a) Open the document with it's password.
    b) Pick "Duplicate" from the File Menu
    c) Pick "Save As..." from the File Menu.

  • 2 Questions on PDF Forms. Submit photo from file and templates.

    Hey all,
I have successfully turned an outdated Word form into a PDF form. However, there are still two important thing I still want/need to accomplish:
    1) Is it possible to create a space on form for the user to add a photo. By that I mean the forms we are dealing with are basically data collection of people, and photos of the people are important. Right now, there is no way for someone to add a photo of the person to the PDF form -- is it at all possible?
    2) Can I turn a PDF form into a template much like a Word document? What I would like is for someone to open up the form and when they go to save it, it prompts them to create a name for the file so they don't overwrite the original. Possible?
Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Yes, depending on the way your users will use the file and whether you have
    access to their computers.
In any case, it will require some scripting work.

  • PDF name didn't match the file-attributes

    Hello Community,
I imported some PDF-Files via iTunes (Win7) on my Ipad. I also edited the file information and the pdf-name (in iTunes & win7) as required. The synchronisation worked perfect, after opening the pdf-file in iBooks the name changed. Is there any chance to change this name in the list-view in iBooks? From which position come the iBooks name? I can say that it isn't the file-properties (win7) or the iTunes-Information.
    Thank you for the help.

    Thanks Laura,
This incident happened only once. I re-made another PDF using the same method and it was fine. I tried many time but I can't replicate the error/problem. The areas where was dropped out in the PDF is a solid color oval with 80% transparency, the other area is a gradient color with 100% transparency. There are similar areas like those in the document but strange enough they are not affected....
The PDF is exactly as expected on the Overprint Preview (using the very same outlined AI file, there is NO spot colors).

  • Adobe PDF (Print) presets: "Cannot create the file. The folder may be write protected."

In Windows 8, this feature of InDesign CS6 only works for the local Administrator account:
File -> Export -> Save as type: Adobe PDF (Print) -> Save -> Save Preset... -> OK
If you try it with any other account this error message is given: "Cannot create the file. The folder may be write protected."
For anyone else encountering this problem, a workaround is to run as administrator.

Which permissions exactly did you set, how did you set them and what did you set them to?
The path to the Drop Box would be /Users/someuser/Public/Drop Box but you obviously wouldn't want the ownership and permissions to be the same on all four directories.
Have you tried using Disk Utility (/Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility) to repair permissions? That would probably be the best way to ensure they're correct.

  • Missing tools and bookmarks, whats the file name that stores this info

your fix for finding my missing bookmarks requires the use of the tools drop down. I do not have the tools drop down to find the missing file

Which fix are you referring to?<br />
Are you searching for the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] ?
Missing bookmarks can be a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

accidental duplicate (due to second request for confirmation I think)
    [ Sorry. Please remove.]

    1. The 'Favorites' folder you're referring to is the IE bookmarks, not Firefox ones. You can make use of it by putting it to similar location as it was on the new hard drive, and seeing them appear when you launch IE on the new machine.
    2. Since you seem to have messed with your current profile, please make a new one as described at [[Managing profiles]], and proceed with it.
    3. If step 1 succeeds, you can import bookmarks from the current installation of IE using the '''File''' -> '''Import''' menu. It's described here in detail: [[Importing favorites and other data from Internet Explorer]].
    4. Firefox stores the bookmarks in the [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Profiles#How_to_find_your_profile Profile folder], '''places.sqlite''' file. If you find it on the old machine, you can just copy it over to the new profile and restart Firefox.

  • I am running a 64-Bit, Windows based LR5, Errors read "The file could not be read"

I have been getting higher amounts of RAW (Nikon) files that are unable to be read. I can see the images, it sits in my drives, its viewable in my camera.
BUT it simply will not work with LR5. I cannot edit or export them. These files are due for an assignment, and I am absolutely frustrated.
Opening the files in "Develop" tab takes ages, and I am talking minutes (5-10 mins) and when it does, it goes into this "the file could not be read" SHITuation. Sorry for the spelling error.
What the hell is wrong, and how do I correct it?

not up with this techo stuff
others better educated will need to know this stuff
    which Nikon been uses?
have you been able to process these files in the past
    which LR?............LR5
What happens with files from a different camera
Have you tried importing as DNG
Click off a few jpeg files and try those

  • Script to Rename PDFs Based on Content

I'm trying to create an electronic archive of digitized brokerage statements so that I can get rid of the paper copies.
Fortunately, I can download statement PDFs from my brokerage firm all the way back to 2006.  On the website the statements have reasonably descriptive titiles and are organized by date.  Unfortunately, when they are downloaded, they are all named 'statement.pdf'!
I'd like to write a script that goes through these downloaded PDFs and renames each one based on it's content.  The resulting file name would be something like:
<brokerage name as string constant><account description><statement date formatted as yyyy.mm.dd>.pdf
Can an AppleScript look inside a PDF?
Can someone point me in the right direction regarding the approach to take, e.g., AppleScript, Automator, etc?
