Questions on the ODBC database type

We use a cloud based application, ServiceNow for Service managerment.  They provide an odbc 3.5 compliant driver which works outside of Data Services fine.
I tried adding a Datastore for this choosing the 'ODBC' database type.  When I click [OK], it Crashed the Designer client !
There are a lot of OBDC options in the advance properties and I tried turning some off, but so far it keeps crashing everytime I click ok.
I assumed the point of the 'ODBC' database option was to provide limited support for this sort of thing.  Am I correct ?
The manuals state:
The Data Services UNIX ODBC driver manager provides the option to load any ODBC driver library when the ODBC driver satisfies following:
The ODBC driver is at least ODBC 2.0 compliant
The ODBC driver library is thread-safe
I assume the same is true on Windows (the manuals are very UNIX-focused)  ?

yes, you can use ODBC datastore for this purpose, but this may not always work since different drivers have there own implementation and requirements
you will have to findout if the issue is with ODBC Driver or with the DS, are you able to do a test connection successfully when creating a system DSN ?
try enabling the ODBC trace and see where it fails when you click ok in DS

  • 1 last question. The underlying data type is .... ?

    interface MyInterface{}
    class MyInterfaceImpl implements MyInterface {}
    MyInterface myVar = new MyInterfaceImpl();in the last line is this correct.?
    myVar's underlying data type is MyInterfaceImpl and MyInterface is it's actual type?

    Anything would be correct.
    MyInterfaceImpl myvar = new MyInterfaceImpl();
    MyInterface myvar = new MyInterfaceImpl();
    The datatype and actual type is MyInterfaceImpl. But you cann access that object using the MyInterface interface.

  • SUP - 2 questions about the CDB (cache database)

    Hi,
    I have 2 questions about the cache database and the cache groups:
    1 - How does the "On demand" cache group policy exactly works? I know that online cache group is without storing any data on the CDB making direct requests to de backend from the device, the DCN is based on updating from the backend, the scheduled is based on a time period, but I don't understand how the "on demand" exactly works, and why it has a time period too.
    2 - Is it possible to query the cache database table to check the data that SUP has stored? How can I do this?
    Thank you!

    I posted a similar question in SUP Apps project not too long ago and  Paul Horan provided this useful reply:
    Create a "Sybase ASA v12.x for Unwired Server" connection profile in the Enterprise Explorer.  I named mine CDB.
    : Host = localhost (or whatever the machine name is)
    : Port = 5200
    : Database name = "default"
    : User Name = "dba"
    : Password = "sql"
    Obviously, change the userid/password to match, if you changed them during install time.
    Connect, and you'll see the "default" database displayed.
    Navigate down through the Tables folder, and the first subfolder is labeled something like [#should_delete_sk ...]  Start there.
    You'll see a bunch of tables with the naming convention "D1" + package name + package version + MBO name.  These are the cache tables for the MBOs.

  • Driver problem to connect the oracle database

    i want that it is platform indpendent but

    In xp the oracle not connect with my application
    and in win98 some time it is connected to the application by
    the odbc driver.
    can it is possible that i use oracle database with out use of ODBC bridge in all Microsoft opertaing system types that is win 98,2000,XP
    and NT
    if yes how please help me and where i found the driver for oracle
    with no price.
    also how can i made the connection with my application.
    thanks in advance

    First:
    post this in the approriate forum. This is for Swing questions, not for database driver questions. You have more luck in the JDBC forum, but still this isn't really a Java/JDBC question.
    Second:
    try to use the search before posting a question. Questions regarding the ODBC bridge are posted about 5 times a day (in the JDBC forum)!
    Third:
    to answer your question: download the Type 4 JDBC driver from otn.oracle.com. You can use it with every JDK on every platform.

  • How to get the Database type from weblogic Db connection

    I want to use database version control in my application . that means different database type use different Sql Statement. Such as in weblogic7.0 if I create SqlServer JDBC pool then I will use some special Sqlserver sql Statement . such as some join statement. If I create Oralce JDBC pool then I have to use different Sql statement . because these two database support different Sql statement.
    What my question is how to get the database type from the connection.

    For a normal jdbc driver you can use
    Connection.getMetaData()
    To get the meta data, in particular the getDatabase...() methods.
    That might or might not work.
    However, at the very least in the server you have access to the weblogic properties so you can parse the pool property to figure it out.

  • Question on the parameter type of DLL functions

    Question on the parameter type of DLL functions
    I am trying to develop an interface to control a laser with LV8.2  I am planing to use the VI “Call Library Function Node” to call the DLL and set the exact same parameters of functions in the DLL.
    According to the DLL manual of the laser, there are six functions.  One of the prototypes is:  function getstatuspointer : pointer. I don't know how to set this parameter for the function. Is there anyone who can give some hints? Thanks!
    BTW :The following is a description of the function:
    This function returns a 32 bit pointer to the STATUS data structure (Tstatusrec). In the 32 bit DLL, every application is using its own copy of the data structure (local
    memory). The data structure is a packed structure. "packed" means that the fields in the structure are not aligned on word or double-word boundaries.
    Tstatusrec = packed record
                            size : word;
                            initstat : byte;
                            queuefill : byte;
                            anzapp16 : word; (not used)
                            anzapp32 : word;
                            anzdock16 : word; (not used)
                            anzdock32 : word;
                            dll16ver : tchararray; (not used)
                            dll32ver : tchararray;
                            excimerver : tchararray;
                            excimer : TExcimerStatus;

  • Beginners question - making sense of form, item, pane & variable (with relation to where data is stored in the SQL database)

    Hi Everyone,
    I am new to writing reports (SQL code) for SAP, however I am aware that inside SAP Business One it is necessary to enable System Information (from the View menu) in order to see which tables (and related table attributes / column names) are related to various aspects of the various SAP 'modules' (e.g.: A/R Invoice).
    Using an A/R Invoice as an example I can see at the row (or line) level that an item with the description of 'Opening Balance Transfer' is contained in the table INV1, within the attribute (or column) called Dscription.
    However not every 'on screen object' shows a table / attribute. For example in the same A/R Invoice if I hover my mouse over the Balance Due field all I see is Form related information.
    My question is 'How do I make sense of the Form, Item, Pane, Variable information?', with relation to where data is stored within the SQL database?
    Links to online tutorials explaining how this feature of SAP Business One will be much appreciated, along with any personal advice regarding working with this information.
    Any (and all) help will be greatly appreciated.
    Kind Regards,
    David

    Hi David,
    1.Here I am explaining use of each field except pane
    a. Form ---> Used in additional authorization creator
    b. Item, column--->Useful in creating Formatted search queries (FMS)
    c. Variable --> Some of the field values based on another values. ie. indirect values.
    d. INV1---Table name
    2. How to get variable?
    As per your second attachment, to get balance due ,you need doc total field from OINV table. For example,
    SELECT T0.[DocNum], T0.[DocTotal] FROM OINV T0 WHERE T0.[DocNum] = 612004797

  • Question to load the entire database into memory.

    I am planing to load the whole database into memory. Suppose mydb is 10G. Then I plan Max Memory for 10G. Then I can create a named cache with 10G and bind the mydb to this cache. Is this the best way to load entire db into memory?
    If the whole db can be loaded into memory, if procedure cache, cache for tempdb and all other params are not important any more? Or still need to follow common practice to configure memory params?

    Hi Kent,
    12-15GB sounds reasonable.
    I recommend always including your version with your initial posting (unless the version simply doesn't apply to the question).  Particularly when running an unusual version, and 12.5.x has been end-of-lifed long enough to be unusual now.  Are you running SAP Applications on this system?  If not, please questions post to the SAP Adaptive Server Enterprise (SAP ASE) for Custom Applications space instead, it is the space for general-purpose ASE questions.
    Cheers,

  • How to have report which use the odbc name of the database

    First, sorry for my English... i have a BIG problem with Crystal 2008. I have a lot of report created with crystal report 8. In crystal report 8, when i create a report, i select the odbc and then add all the tables i need. then i go under "database", "setting position". here i find all the tables and if i select them, in the field "table" the name is "databasename.dbo.tablename". so i delete "databasename.dbo." and leave only "tablename". so in my app i can use the name i want for the database, i only need to create the odbc with the correct database name and it works.
    now with crystal 2008 i can't do this!!!! if i change the name of the database and modify the odbc, when i print the report i have an error like "provider error" or similar. i try to use the expert database, the "change position  data source" but no results. this appends only if  i add a new table to an old report or if i create a new report.
    what shall i do?? now i'm still using crystal 8 (i only need to use the runtime and the preview object in .net, but i don't need all the feature of the new crystal report), but i'd like to use the new one because it's a lot better for create reports....
    thanks

  • How to get the Database Type quan in my internal table?

    Hi, I have the following problem, I have a Database Table with a column foo (QUAN with length 15 and 3 dec). Now I want to read this field into a Internal Table and the corrospoding field is:
    foo(19) TYPE C,
    But this is not working I'm getting the dump:
    DBIF_RSQL_INVALID_RSQL
    CX_SY_OPEN_SQL_DB
    What is the correct abap type in my structure to put this QUAN in my internal table?

    Hi Michael,
         when you know your data base field name then u can define your variable f00 of your db field type like
         foo type <dbtabname>-<fieldname)  -----ex -- j_1iexcdtl-menge
         or define foo as packed no
         data : foo(19) type p decimals 3.

  • How to use the JE database with other data types than byte arrays?

    Hi! I searched the javadoc of Berkley DB JE, for a way to introduce entry (but I need also retrieve) data with other type than byte arrays, e.g. String, or anything else, as int may be, etc.
    Still, I didn't find any such way, because the main (only?!) method to entry data into an open database - according what I found in javadoc - is:
    "public OperationStatus put(Transaction txn, DatabaseEntry key, DatabaseEntry data) throws DatabaseException"
    and both this and the corresponding method for retrieves, are based on the same DatabaseEntry type, which allow only entry data on byte[] support.
    What if I need to use Strings or int, or even char? I must do a special conversion from these types, to byte[], to use the database?
    Thank you!

    On the doc page (this is also in the download package),
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17277_02/html/index.html
    see:

    Java Collections Tutorial
    Direct Persistence Layer (DPL)
    All of these describe how to use data types other than byte arrays.

  • A new question on how to Enable Flashback Database on the standby database?

    Best Practice document said:
    Enable Flashback Database on the standby database to minimize downtime for logical corruptions.
    I would like to know where to find document or anybody already had experience for this topic?
    Also I would like to know what is the best practice for backup/recovery of the Physcial standby database?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello;
    Just an opinion but I like the book "Oracle Data Guard 11g Handbook" as both the document and the answers to the second question.
    Chapter 12 covers the A to Z of RMAN with Data Guard.
    This book sold me on Flashback since Flashback allows a former Primary database to be reinstated after a failover operation with being restored ( provided sufficient flashback logs are available)
    My own experience is I tried a failover test without it and trash my test Primary.
    I did a simple failover test a few weeks ago, here are my notes.

  • Trying to find answers for the question "Why is this file type blocked from being uploaded into SharePoint"

    At least once a month - sometimes much more frequently - I get calls from users asking why the file extension they "need" to upload to SharePoint is blocked.
    Most recently, it was a Microsoft Access database that the user was attempting to upload to a document library. Before that, it was a shortcut link (*.url). And so on.
    Is there a reference document which goes over the reasons why specific file types are blocked?
    Thanks!

    Each blocked file format has it's own reasons for not being allowed to be stored on a SharePoint library.
    Some of them are blocked because they would be processed by SharePoint Servers during the upload/download sequences, thus, possibly corrupting the system ( like dll files ). Others would cause Crawl to break ( url files ).
    The Access database files are blocked for two valid reasons. First, because saving "live" to those files using Windows explorer window ( WebDAV ) doesn't work. Second because SharePoint product managers want us to use SharePoint lists instead.
    And it does makes sense.
    If you're in the middle of a migration from file servers to a SharePoint solution, your people could use these situations to stop and think about it for a little:
    Really ? Now that we have SharePoint, couldn't we do things a little bit differently ?
