Queue Data in case database is down
Hi all,
I am developing a servlet. How do I queue data from the calling client in case database is not accessible? I need to place a code checking in my servlet for this. Is it advisable to use xml file for queueing data or are there libraries you can recommend?
Help is needed. Thank you very much.

Database slow down happeing for aperticular window
Hi,
For last few days we are having a issue with database slow down for a perticular window .We took the awr and ash report for that window and it shows the db file sequential read takes more time for aperticular query.But the same query works fine for rest of the day, so how we find the issue happend at that perticular window?
ThanksHi ,
there is not a single query running for that window, multiple sessions are running which are exceuting various queries.
Here is the AWR report for that window( due to size i could past only first half of thw awr report)

How to detect if Database is down when client application is running?
Hi,
I have a oracle Forms application accessing a remote database. While doing processing, application has to post some data in a remote database.
As of now, when the Forms client is running and remote database is down, the client hangs.
I have tried Creating a timer before remote database procedure call in the FORMS Trigger and checking in the when_timer_expired trigger, if a specific duration has passed or not. This doesn't work as timer fires only after the remote procedure call completes and other SQL statements in the FORMS trigger where i have created the timer completes.
I Know sqlcode -3113 can be of help.
Hope someone can help me with a solution/suggestion.
Thanks
Hariinteresting situation.
what about issuing the select count(*) into cnt from dual, if cnt>0 then do post.
better to setup the remote database has fail-over to another node. -
How to get the data from mysql database which is being accessed by a PHP application and process the data locally in adobe air application and finally commit the changes back in to mysql database through the PHP application.
If the data is on a remote server (for example, PHP running on a web server, talking to a MySQL server) then you do this in an AIR application the same way you would do it with any Flex application (or ajax application, if you're building your AIR app in HTML/JS).
That's a broad answer, but in fact there are lots of ways to communicate between Flex and PHP. The most common and best in most cases is to use AMFPHP (http://amfphp.org/) or the new ZEND AMF support in the Zend Framework.
This page is a good starting point for learning about Flex and PHP communication:
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flex/flex_php.html
Also, in Flash Builder 4 they've added a lot of remote-data-connection functionality, including a lot that's designed for PHP. Take a look at the Flash Builder 4 public beta for more on that: http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashbuilder4/ -
Starting yesterday (I believe) we are suddenly receiving a "User not found" error when trying to view a user's profile page when clicking on their name (in search or elsewhere) via the url
https://www.contoso.org/Person.aspx?accountname=contoso%255Cmyuserlogin
This is happening for all users. (but profiles exist and seem ok, and sync with AD is running fine) When looking in the logs I see the error (full ULS log is later below)
Exception in LoadRequestedUserProfile: (Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.UserNotFoundException: User Not Found: Could not load profile data from the database.
The only clue of what MAY be going on is just before that I see the following two lines which came up after I changed the Database logging to Verbose:
ConnectionString: 'Data Source=INSTANCE;Initial Catalog=UPAPROFILEDB;Integrated Security=True;Enlist=False;Pooling=True;Min Pool Size=0;Max Pool Size=100;Connect Timeout=15;Application Name=SharePoint[w3wp][3][UPAPROFILEDB]' Partition:
NULL ConnectionState: Closed ConnectionTimeout: 15
SQL connection time: 0.0456 for Data Source=INSTANCE;Initial Catalog=UPAPROFILEDB;Integrated Security=True;Enlist=False;Pooling=True;Min Pool Size=0;Max Pool Size=100;Connect Timeout=15;Application Name=SharePoint[w3wp][3][HNet3_Svc_Prod_UPA_Profile]
If I am reading that correctly, does it mean the connection to the database is timing out instantly? I am able to use powershell to pull up profiles and print them to the screen while on the webservers. And it's only the one specific page that is not
working.
What sort of tests or further debugging can I do for the error above?
We are on premise, SharePoint 2013 sp1, sql2012, server 2012, claims using the full SharePoint Profiile Sychronization against AD. Farm has been running since last august. Last week the admin team did run windows update on all servers, I can't be sure
if it was broken for 5 days and no one noticed or if it broke yesterday.
I already did the following:
Verified the profiles do exist in central admin.
I can still access their personal sites directly via
https://www.contoso.org/personal/myuserlogin
I checked the ProfileDB database and made sure the service accounts for the UPA has dbowner, so does the farm account, and the web application pool has SPDataAccess.
Verified the AD sync account has proper rights in AD.
I reran a full synchronization which ran with no errors.
File systems on the webservers and appserver have plenty of free space.
Rebooted every server in farm
I even checked the bin directory of the mysite webapplication, (since once I had a weird problem where access to bin was removed.) WSS_ADMIN_WPG, WSS_RESTRICTED_WPG_W4 have full control and WSS_WPG,IIS_IUSRS all have read and execute.
I opened powershell on the webserver I can indeed load profiles and print their values.

Look at the URL in the search results. It may have invalid character in which case you can use this fix

Error while trying to insert data on a database through a mediator
I have build a simple project on 11g TP$, which consists of a mediator, a file adapter, that reads an xml file and a DB adapter that inserts data on a database.
The mediator connects the file adapter to the DB adapter and through a routing rule it inserts data on a table of the database.
When I try to run this project the input file is consumed by the file adapter, but after that I get the following error

I have checked the .xsd file and my xml several times and it seems that they are correct. Moreover, the .xsl file is also correct.
Does anyone have any idea of what may produce this problem?
ThanksI was finally able to get my project working. Heidi - You were right, there was a problem with the XSL generated by the XSL map editor.
I am trying to locate if this issue has already been reported, but I am highlighting it here, in case someone else faces the same.
The XSL generated was as follows:

The Xpath included the "imp1:" tag to reference the namespace. I tested this XSL and it didn't work. However, on removing the namespace "imp1:" from the Xpath, the XSL works fine and I am able to insert into the database. "No suitable driver" still appears in the log, but all rows from the XML are inserted into the database.

Sometime the Database is down, so the job is not running.
How to create a procedure to send a mail if the database is down?
Pls help me. Its highly appreciated.

There are loads of "+What if's+" - and in that respect, playing "+What if database is down..+" in this case does not make any sense. You do not use the database to monitor its own up/down status. You do not rely just on SMTP as notification protocol that the database is down.
The correct approach would be using something like SNMP as the monitoring protocol. A monitoring system that can process SNMP and perform some basic root cause analysis (e.g. network to the database server down, database server status unknown). And this system supporting notification methods like SMTP, SMS and so on. -
One of the database is down in streaming environment
I have scenario where one of the database in (two different database) streaming environment is unavailable due to nework/link/database maintenance purpose. Since my other database is up and running and DML/DDL operations are in process how can I avoid following error
SQL> insert into test values ('eee', 'code e');
1 row created.
SQL> commit;

ORA-02068: following severe error from OTHER_DOWN_DATABASE
ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel
============================================
Can I change some parameters in DBMS_STREAMS_ADM Package or any other packages to avoid above situationThanks for the reply.
I am getting the same error even If I just do select on the table which I have for streaming

select * from test@dbtest

ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel.
Q- Wich database is down? Is it the source database or the destination database?
For now I am testing with keeping down destination database.
Q- If it's the source db, just stop the capture. That's all you really have to do.
A- This can be good for planned maintenance, but how about unplanned outage or sudden problem (with networks/links or all of a sudden I can not stream my data changes to destination database).
Q--The error you're describing is unclear.... Do you get that error immediately when you issue the insert and the commit? That sound very very strange to me because streams does asynchronous replication... You would not get such an error for db down from my opinion.
A-- First time, I got this error when I updated a row and then tried to commit while my destination database was down.
Q- It looks like the problem has nothing to do with streams but rather a distributed transaction problem (2pc)...
A- If it is transaction problem should I be getting similar error while selecting from destination table, see the above error -
Failed to retrieve data from the database crystal reports 2008 in SAP B1
Hello friends,
I am using Crystal report 2008 with SAP B1 PL 8.8. When I run any report, it runs correctly from Crystal Report. But whenever I try to open the same report through SAP ( Tools -> Preview External Crystal Report ), it prompts the parameters for that report and then open up the crystal report window and throws an Error message ("failed to retrieve data from the database. Details [Database Vendor Code: 156]").
Please any one suggest me the corrective solution.
Thanks in Advance,
Keyur Raval.I had the same problem in SAP B1 2007. Report worked fine except when it was open from B1. Generally there may be different problems. In my case the same problem was caused by using some procedure which was in a specific schema. Changing the schema into "dbo" solved the problem.

Script for getting mail if database is down
Hi Friends,
OS Version : IBM AIX 5,2
Oracle version : 9.2.0.7
I am executing the following script for getting mail alert if database is down. some how the script is not working
check_stat=`ps -ef|grep ${ORACLE_SID}|grep pmon|wc -l`;
oracle_num=`expr $check_stat`
if [ $oracle_num -lt 1 ]
then
exit 0

# Test to see if Oracle is accepting connections
$ORACLE_HOME/bin/sqlplus -s "/as sysdba" > /tmp/check_$ORACLE_SID.ora
select name from v$database;
exit
# If not, exit and e-mail . . .
check_stat=`cat /tmp/check_$ORACLE_SID.ora|grep -i error|wc -l`;
oracle_num=`expr $check_stat`
if [ $oracle_num -ne 0 ]
then
mailx -s "$ORACLE_SID is down!" [email protected] < /tmp/check_$ORACLE_SID.ora
exit 16
fi
I am saving this as .sh file and executing at command prompt. It is just hanging, but not throwing any error.
I would like to know if there is anything to be modified in the script or please provide me any such script. Thanks in advanceHI there.
I have a script I use that works really well. It sends out an email only if the database is down and also reads an ini file to process a blackout period and a priority level of the database... High priority databases are monitored every 5 minutes and Medium priority databases every hour.
There are two scripts, the shell script and the .ini file and I have two cron entries...
Check script:_
#!/bin/ksh
# check_oracle_status.sh
# Script to check if Oracle db's are up and running.
# Script is passed a priority field and reads check_oracle_status.ini
# to determine which db's to check. If db is down an email is sent.
# Priority Levels:
# H - Checks db's with "H"igh Priority every 5 minutes (cron)
# M - Checks db's with "M"edium Priority every hour (cron)
# L - db's with "L"ow Priority currently not checked
# Script Change History:

export ORACLE_SID=$i
if [ $fields -gt 2 ]; then
BLACKOUT_START=`grep -i "$ORACLE_SID" $INIFILE | cut -d":" -f3`
BLACKOUT_END=`grep -i "$ORACLE_SID" $INIFILE | cut -d":" -f4`
CURRENT_HOUR=`date +%H`
CHECK_BASE=YES
if [ $BLACKOUT_START -gt $BLACKOUT_END ]; then
(( $CURRENT_HOUR >= $BLACKOUT_START || $CURRENT_HOUR <= $BLACKOUT_END )) && CHECK_BASE=
else
(( $CURRENT_HOUR >= $BLACKOUT_START && $CURRENT_HOUR <= $BLACKOUT_END )) && CHECK_BASE=

if [ -n "$CHECK_BASE" ]; then

else

oracle2:M:17:08
oracle3:M
oracle5:M:17:08
oracle6:H
oracle7:M:17:08
oracle8:M
oracle9:M
Where oracle1,2,3 etc is your sid
L M and H your priority level
17 is blackout start (5 PM)
08 is blackout end (8 AM)
Note: Blackout is just a start hour and an end hour and must contain both or none and my script can only process one blackout per database. I guess if you
needed a second blackout you could add another line with different times for that sid
Cron entries:_
# Check Oracle Status
# The check_oracle_status.sh script monitors "H"igh priority databases every 5 minutes
# and "M"edium priority databases every hour
0,5,10,15,20,25,30,35,40,45,50,55 * * * * /opt/oracle/admin/scripts/check_oracle_status.sh H > /dev/null 2>&1
0 * * * * /opt/oracle/admin/scripts/check_oracle_status.sh M > /dev/null 2>&1
Not sure if you require blackouts or priority levels but this setup works great at our site.
Hope this helps. -
Character integrity issue after data conversion in database/JDBC
Hi
I am using oracle 9i with the following NLS setting:
NLS_LANGUAGE :AMERICANS
NLS_CHARACTERSET : UTF8
NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET :AL16UTF16
I am running on Linux with this as my environment Language:
Lang: en_US.UTF8
I am sending hindi characters in XML file (UTF-8 encoding) to my java application to be stored in the database. In my xml file, I give this encoding (ignore the double quotes, reason for putting in the quotes so that the browser will not interpret it)
"न";"म";"स";"्";"त";"े"
But the characters appeared unreadable in the database. When I use Select DUMP to check the characters encoding:
Typ=1 Len=12 CharacterSet=UTF8: 0,28,0,2e,0,38,0,4d,0,24,0,47
When I retrieve data from the database via my application, the weird characters will appear.
However, if i manually input the hindi characters into the column of the table, then the Hindi characters appear correctly. When I do a DUMP to check, this is what I get:
Typ=1 Len=12 CharacterSet=UTF8: 9,28,9,2e,9,38,9,4d,9,24,9,47
When I check the unicode chart here http://www.unicode.org/charts/PDF/U0900.pdf, the second DUMP result is correct. When I retrieve data from the database via my application, the correct hindi string appear.
I understand that in Java the encoding is in UTF-16 and Oracle JDBC will convert from UTF-16 to UTF-8 before storing in my database and vice versa. The thing that puzzles me is why correct hindi string appears on my web interface when that the same conversion is used to extract the data from the database. At first I suspect it is the conversion problem in JDBC when the UTF-16 characters get truncated to UTF-8 when I try to store the data to database. But when good data is stored in the database, the extraction seems to be correct albeit that it is going through the same conversion.
I read from several threads of this forum and also the Oracle Globalization Support article but I cannot find an answer to my question.
Can anyone help? Thanks.

Edited by: user13085722 on May 10, 2010 1:16 AMA couple of checkpoints for you:
1. When you load the XML from SXMB_MONI in the test tab of message mapping it turns red..this means the constructed XML (from CC content conversion) doesnt match the one (XSD) defined in your ESR/IR. In this case you have to check again thoroughly the file content conversion fields values/field length in the sender Communication chaneel.
2. Once you rectify the error above then you can test the mapping in ESR message mapping. -
Updating data in the database table
Can any help me in the code for updating data in the database table.
Regards,
RahulHi Rahul,
A slightly longer procedure that i'm adding here...
1.) Create the component (i'm sure you have this covered)
2.) Next on the button click that updates the database - add an action.
3.) double click the action so that you are taken to the methods section of the view.
4.) next you need to add the code that is required the update the database - this will be in the form of the above two posts.
5.) compile and test the application
Let me know in case you need further information on how to do this with a function module or something.
Thanks. -

Select data from different database
hi,
may I know how to select data from different database?
for example,
I've 2 databases, OracleDB and OracleAR
Connect with OracleAR in SQL*Plus
select * from OracleDB.TableName
does Oracle support this kind of query?
how can I retrieve data from other database while im connecting with
other database?Hi,
Yes, it's possible. No, your syntax won't work.
First of all you have to define a DATABASE LINK inside the DB where you are already connected (in this case OracleAR). Read docs how to do that.
Second thing is the query. It will look like
SELECT * from TableName@<NameOfDatabaseLink>Greetings,

Single query to get data from different databases
i need to capture certain fields from certain tables in database 1 and certain fields from certain tables in database 2 into one file using a single SQL statement.
i tried searching on the net
i found that dblinks can help
but iam not sure if ill be able to create dblinks in my situation which is:
i need to get data from oracle to be copied to mysql
this is not a replication acitivity, but i need certain fields from one database and certain from the other
so what iwas thinking is, if i use an sql query to get all the fields (i need around 40) from the different oracle databases and create a singlefile with one insert per select, i can then read that file into mysql
instead of creating multiple sql queries for each table and creating separate files and eventually separate tables in mysql.
can anyone help me here?
or maybe suggest another approach.
thanksHi,
I think dblink is the only option available to get data from different databases. It will work for your case too.
CREATE DATABASE LINK db_link CONNECT TO user_name IDENTIFIED BY password USING 'instance_name'you must have the system privilege 'create database link' to create db links. This way you can get the required data and put it in a table in oracle. But i dont know how to put this data from oracle table to Mysql.
