Quick Soundbooth Q

When you open up and make a soundbooth document, you can make little tags on the music document. Is it possible for Flash to read these? and if yes, how?!

Hi Shadow Fox,
There are a few methods to make those Markers (Flash refers to them as Cue Points) available to Flash. You can either embed them in an FLV video file, or save them as an XML file which can either be imported into Flash Video Encoder, or loaded via ActionScript within your Flash project.
If you have some markers on a file in Soundbooth, and save to WAV or AIF format, an additional file will be saved alongside your audio file. For example, if your audio file was named "myAudio.wav" the marker file would be called "myAudio_markers.xml"
Here's some sample ActionScript code to read this XML file and display the results:
Actionscript based Flash Cue Point Data Exchange Demonstration
Requires:
- FLVPlayback component on the Stage with an instance name of my_FLVPlybk
- Dynamic Text Field on the Stage with an instance name of currentCuePoint
- Cue Point XML file
var myCues:XML = new XML(); //Create XML Object
var curCueTime:Number = 0; //Set current cue point to 0
var curCueName:String = ""; //Set current cue point name to ""
myCues.ignoreWhite = true; //Ignore Whitespace in XML file
First, setup the onLoad routine to parse the cue file.
The file being loaded is a cue points XML file exported from Adobe Soundbooth.
The example assumes it's relative to the swf but could also be loaded using http:// or file:// */
myCues.onLoad = function(success) {
if (success) {
convertCues(myCues); // Function located at end of script
myCues.load("Flash Cue Data.xml"); //Your XML file
my_FLVPlybk.contentPath = "embeddedcuetest.flv"; //A video file
var listenerObject:Object = new Object();
listenerObject.cuePoint = function(eventObject:Object):Void {
trace("Cue Point \"" + eventObject.info.name + "\" fired at: " + eventObject.info.time+ " (type: " + eventObject.info.type+")");
currentCuePoint.text = (eventObject.info.time + " seconds: Cue Point \"" + eventObject.info.name + "\" (type: " + eventObject.info.type+")");
my_FLVPlybk.addEventListener("cuePoint", listenerObject);
function convertCues(cueFile) {
for (i=0; i < cueFile.firstChild.childNodes.length; i++) {
curCueTime = (Number(cueFile.firstChild.childNodes[i].firstChild.firstChild.nodeValue)/1000);
curCueName = cueFile.firstChild.childNodes[i].firstChild.nextSibling.nextSibling.firstChild.nodeValue;
trace("Adding Cue " + i + " at time: " + curCueTime + " named: \"" + curCueName + "\""); my_FLVPlybk.addASCuePoint(curCueTime, curCueName);

  • How can I recover lost work in Soundbooth 4?

    While editing an MP3 file in SB4, Soundbooth crashed, and crashed hard.  First the green soundwave editing pane went blank, then I received multiple "Adobe Soundbooth has encountered a fatal error and must close" alert windows (over 100) until the computer froze and I was forced to reboot (Windows 7).
    When I rebooted, the MP3 file I was editing was in its original state and all 3+ hours of editing work was lost.  This, despite the fact that I had manually saved the file multiple times as my editing progressed.  Where did all of those manual "save" operations write their data?  My expectation is that if I perform a "Save" operation while editing an Mp3 file, that all changes I made before that time are persisted to the file!   It appears this is not the case.
    Is there a "secret" location that Soundbooth saves files out to where I can attempt to recover them from?  Thanks for any help

    I would really like to know this as well! I just finished mastering a new mix for my website at Wedding DJ San Diego and clicked over to another app really quick, when I clicked back to Soundbooth, it blinked and disappeared completely. After reopening the app, my file is nowhere to be found!
    If anyone knows how to recover the file please let us know!!!

  • From Audacity to Soundbooth CS5 (aka improving speech)

    Hello all,
    I have been using Audacity for years and I needed to change because of a requirement to output FLV audio with cue points. Soundbooth appears to have this capability.
    I have used Audacity to edit speech files and I consistantly applied the following procedures in order to enhance the speech:
    1- Sample and apply noise removal
    2- Apply Low Pass filter with:Rolloff 6db, q = 0.7, Cutoff = 5500 Hz
    3- Apply Bass Boost with: Frequency = 200 Hz, Boost = 8 dB
    As I mentioned, I am new to Soundbooth and I would like to know how to do the equivalent in Soundbooth. Additionally, if anyone has other suggestions on improving speech quality (I am aiming for Public Radio quality.. suitable for training audio). I am constrained with actual recording quality so I need to work as much 'magic' as possible in post production.... I have been relatively successful with those Audacity perimeters.
    While experimenting with Soundbooth, I think I have found most of the equivalents but please confirm if these are best practices:
    1-Noise Removal
       Select dead air section of recording, click Processes, select Capture Noise Print
       click Processes, select Reduce Noise, Use default settings (Use Captured Noise Print - checked)
    2-Low pass and bass boost seem to be handled by EQ:Parametric (advanced)
       I am unsure if I like what the Male Voice Enhancer does (it seems to introduce artifacts to the audio)
    Any suggestions or comments?
    Finally, is there a way to automate these audio enhancements to quickly process the audio and move on the next of many wav files.
    Thank you

    The following help file specifically states that one can indeed embed cue points within a saved .flv file.

    This does not work for me in Soundbooth CS4 and I am unable to test CS5.

  • Preview will not play in premier pro and soundbooth cs4 on the mac

    i cannot get a preview when i am in premier you now after you hit the space bar it should run or in the sequence window. When you do hit the space bar itll play for any were between a split second and a second i have noticed the same in soundbooth another forum spoke about about audio hardwear settng i just get an error message /rand/`mediaCore/MediaLayer/AudioSupport/Make/Mac/../../Src/Mac/CoreAudioHost.cpp-536  i have seen other post with simler error messages but at other lines

    I have tried a few files all very small in size nothing major i have tried .mov and avi and aiff i get the same fault with all of them i cannot tell what the codecs are i thinks its only with pro quick time.
    OK, so it is not those particular files, but many others, as well. I do not know Photo Booth, but would ask if all of the problem files have come from it. Could be a possible link there - or maybe not. Do any non-Photo Booth files give you the same problem? Do any non-Photo Booth files NOT give you the problem?
    Thanks for the clarification on the QT Pro only aspect of Property Panel. I'll no refrain from mentioning that, without the qualifier - "Pro." I just had no way to tell, as all copies that I own are the Pro model.
    what do you prefer red or white i would say your a reds man anyway
    My answer to this question is "Alvarinho to Zinfandel and everything in between - so long as it's well-made." I try to pair each food course with a particular wine, regardless of color. I have no issue with a white with traditionally red wine courses, or the inverse. I love a good Syrah/Shiraz, or Pinot Noir with all but the lightest fish/seafood dishes, so long as there is not much cream in the sauce - then I reach for FR whites. I'll also usually serve some whites and lighter reds with the cheese course, even if the earlier courses have had bigger reds already.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • New Soundbooth Public Beta released!

    Hi Everyone,
    I wanted to invite everyone to download and check out the just-released public beta for the next edition of Soundbooth! You can read more about it and download it from http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/soundboothcs4/
    Some of the new features that may interest everyone is multi-track support, our new Adobe Sound Document (ASND) format, WDM driver support (via ASIO wrapper,) volume keyframing, XMP metadata support, Speech transcription, and much more.
    Install and download for a 2-day trial, or use the link on the site above to enter ANY valid CS3 serial number to receive a personal serial number for this beta release and extend the trial.
    If you have any questions or issues, please be sure to post them in the Labs forum. I look forward to hearing your opinions on the new tools.
    Thanks,
    Durin

    Hi Laine,
    There is a link to the Soundbooth Labs Forum on the main Soundbooth labs page at http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/soundboothcs4/
    As for fades, the quick-fade handles that were available in CS3 are still available only at the beginning and end of the clips, however we have implemented volume keyframing which will allow you to fade in and out anywhere in your files.

  • Soundbooth CS4 crashes on startup

    I have just installed Production Pro CS4 and all programs are working except Soundbooth. When I try to run it, it begins to load and then generates an error message
    Soundbooth has encountered an error
    [..\..\Src\win\WintPathUtils.cpp-574]
    This is followed by a crash report window.
    I am using a Dell Precision 390 with Intel Core2 6300 1.86 Ghz
    4 Gb RAM, Quadro FX 3450, Sigma Tel audio, 146 GB 15K SAS, Win XP SP3
    Any ideas?

    Jan,<br /><br />The application window loads, and then the application shuts down...  My first suspicion is that the Workspaces preference file was corrupted.  It looks like you're using XP, so try going to C:\Documents and Settings\Jan\Application Data\Adobe\Soundbooth\2.0\Workspaces\  and delete or move the files there.  Relaunch and let me know if this makes a difference. <br /><br />Mathias,<br /><br />1 gig of RAM should be sufficient, and regardless, it shouldn't crash.  The fact you see different behavior when you hold down shift gives me some hint that it's similar to Jan's issue, except that you may also have bad Prefs.  (Holding down SHIFT bypasses the preferences on launch.  If you close the application successfully, those prefs files will be overwritten.  Since you're crashing anyways, they never get overwritten, so the next attempt to launch just reads the bum Prefs again.)<br /><br />Go to C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Application Data\Adobe\Soundbooth\ and delete or rename the entire 2.0 folder then relaunch.  We're going to let Soundbooth rebuild its entire preference structure from scratch.  Please let me know your results as well.<br /><br />Thanks,<br />Durin<br /><br />PS - If these are new installs and you've never been able to launch Soundbooth, I highly recommend calling Technical Support at 800-642-3623.  Installation support is free and it can be much quicker to diagnose and troubleshoot when speaking with someone than it is in these forums.

  • Soundbooth CS4 released!

    Hi everyone,
    I wanted to let everyone know that Soundbooth CS4 has been released! We're very proud of the improvements and new features that have gone into this release, and want to thank our pre-release testers and public beta users who offered advice, suggestions, complaints, and feedback along the way.
    There is a whole heck of a lot of new stuff, so I'll mention a few of the big items, and encourage everyone to download the 30-day trial when it's available in the next few days.
    * Multitrack Editing: Create unlimited tracks to layout your audio composition, add multiple music scores, synchronize to video, and more! Our integrated clip editor lets you edit your clips right from the timeline.
    * Volume keyframing: Adjust volume levels and changes to your clips quickly and easily.
    * Adobe Sound Document format: save your work in a single document, save snapshots of various states or mixes, and insert into your Premiere, After Effects, or Flash projects while still retaining the ability to make further changes in Soundbooth.
    * Automatic Volume Correction: Make all of your audio clips the same relative volume level, or equalize the volume levels of a single file.
    * Speech Transcription and Search: Our Speech Recognition engine can transcribe your audio files and save the text as metadata or in Flash Cue Point format. Quickly search for keywords and jump right to them in your audio or video.
    * Improved Scores workflow: It is now much easier to use Soundbooth Scores to add dynamic, customizable music and ambience tracks to your projects.
    * MP3 Compression Preview: No more guessing how your MP3 will sound at different compression levels. An integrated Compression Preview tool lets you sample the output at any compression level, and get the best quality at the lowest file size.
    * DynamicLink support: Now you can easily share clips with After Effects and Premiere Pro, sharing edits between applications without needing to render.
    There's a lot more happening, so I hope everyone gets a chance to check it out. The free trial version should be available soon, I'll post here when it's up and ready, and I hope you enjoy Soundbooth!

    Sounds like a huge step forward, Durin, with some very novel features - nice one!

  • Premiere Pro and Soundbooth won't play video/audio for more than a second.

    Ok, so my issue is that Soundbooth won't play audio for more than a second. It plays a quick bit then stops. Premiere Pro also does the same with video, it plays a quick bit then stops. I don't know if it is connected or not but when I try to change the audio output in Soundbooth to System Default I get this error:
    I set the permissions to premiere and soundbooth to full but it didn't work. I've tried UnInstalling and ReInstalling but that didn't fix the issues either. All of the other programs seem to work. Any help would be much appreciated!!

    Here is the fix.
    1. Open Finder and navigate to /YOUR_HD/Library/Preferences
    2. Rename or move to the Trash the file:   com.apple.audio.AggregateDevices.plist
    3. Relaunch The Program

  • Premiere crashes when exporting to Soundbooth

    I've searched everywhere for an answer but can't find anything.  When I try to export an audio file from Premiere to Soundbooth, Premiere hangs.
    The only change to my system recently was I downloaded some Matrox codecs.  Anyone have any ideas or solutions?  I'm using Win 7.  Thanks

    Thanks, I appreciate the quick response.  I don't have a Matrox card but I was working on a project that the client used a 1920 x 1080 Matrox codec.  It was version 10.  My Premiere is version 5.03.  The audio file is just an HDV file that I was trying to correct audio on.  I thought it might have something to do with Dynamic link but I was able to import AE comps.

  • Exporting/Importing customized rack settings' values - Soundbooth

    Has anyone ever found a way to export your customized Soundbooth rack settings, like in the case where you'd be uninstalling Soundbooth from one machine to install it on another machine? Has anyone come across a way to export and then import your rack settings' values?
    I tried one Adobe Tech Support rep's direction which was, "... copy the same folder [C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Soundbooth CS5 folder] of the old setting and paste into the same settings. C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Soundbooth CS5 folder". That resulted in a error on launch of Soundbooth, preventing Soundbooth from opening at all following the folder copy-over.
    So has anyone had any better success externally saving your custom rack settings and then importing them to another instance of Soundbooth?
    Thanks so much.

    I forgot to mention the versions that I had.
    Portal 3.0.6.6.5 ( from 9ias 1.0.2.0.1)
    Oracle 817
    on solaris 8.
    Richard,
    Thanks for that information. Do you know if
    there is any quick workaround for the problem
    that I described above which I can use until
    the patch gets released?

  • Low memory caused by soundbooth

    Hi,
    I have been editing videos and audio on soundbooth.  I have had to save files and re-open files in another program (as I can't break audio up within soundbooth).
    The trouble is that the memory on my pc is being eaten up.
    Does soundbooth create temporary files which can be deleted after using soundbooth, as it seems that it is only when working on soundbooth that my pc memory decreases in size?  I know it is not the 'finished' files as I save these to an external memory.
    For information.
    My RAM size is 2GB
    The total Memory I have is 37GB
    I did have about 9GB remaining a while ago
    On Monday morning I had 1GB by the evening I had 400MB
    This morning after working on Soundbooth I only have 150MB left.
    The pc I am using is a Dell Optiplex GX520 with a pentium 4 HT processor
    Thanks
    Tim

    I don't know if all the sticky posts migrated over from the old forum software, but it is imperative to regularly clean your cache within Soundbooth and Premiere Pro.  In the Preferences, click Media > Clear Media Cache.
    This will free up gigabytes of space - especially when working with video.
    The Media Cache concept is a good idea - prevent repeatedly conforming the same file and share the cache from one application with the others.  However, with no way to "expire" old data, the folder quickly fills up.

  • EDITING SOUND/MUSIC in SOUNDBOOTH or PREMIERE PRO CS3

    I have a question that has been posed to me about sound/song/music editing.  How can one either in SOUNDBOOTH or in PREMIERE PRO CS3 - edit the playback - so show beat by beat - is that possible?
    I'm not musically inclined.   If I want to cut/edit a sound and match it with a similar of another - how can I go about that?
    please email me as i'll forget to check here for replies - [email protected]
    thanks for any suggestions.  I'm a newbie at sound.

    You can use either one for what you're talking about.
    You will find links to many free tutorials in the PremiereProPedia that will quickly show you how things are done in Premiere Pro.
    Cheers

  • SL Opens Soundbooth Instead of QuickTime

    I've just installed SL. No apparent problems (yet - I only installed it last night) apart from the one I'm about to explain. When I try to open an mp4 movie or a Quicktime movie, instead of using QuickTime, it now defaults to Soundbooth (CS3) for some bizarre reason and opens the application, showing the movie in a small window within it. Then, if I try to open a .wmv movie (I have Flip4Mac)it tells me that I need to have QuickTime installed (which I obviously do). Any ideas, please?
    The good news is that everything else seems to work: I still have all my iPhoto pictures and also Office for Mac 2008 seems to work perfectly (if, indeed, not a bit quicker).
    I've only installed SL on my MacPro so far, and am waiting to resolve this problem before installing SL on my iMac 24 and also on 2 MacBook Pros.

    Hi Simon
    Have you tried selecting an mp4 file, rightclicking to select "Get Info", then in in the window that pops up in the section "Open with" selecting Quicktime and pressing "Change all"? Perhaps that setting got distorted somehow.
    Maybe that would work with wmv as well.
    /p

  • Learning Soundbooth For VO: Services For Hire?

    Hello all!
    I'm currently using Soundbooth CS4 for a podcast I'll be doing. However, my audio engineering skills are a -1 on a scale of 10. So, after watching one of Adobe TV's hosts Jason Levine, I had a thought.
    I'll be recording my VO using a Shure Lav Mic that will also be used for the same podcast when filming on-set. Is there someone, like Mr. Levine, I can contract my audio out to, as a one time job, for training purposes?
    My goal would be for someone to take my unique vocal register, mix it in Soundbooth using various filters (IE: compression, EQ, etc...) and then return the file to me. This way they can break down what filters they're using (and at what settings) so I can have a "fine tuned mix," customized to my voice?
    From then on, I can use this as my template and mix the audio myself.
    Anyone know who may provide this type of service? I've tried getting in touch with Mr. Levine himself but I'm unable to locate contact info.
    Thanks!

    Apache AXIS is the quick route in to web services and probably easiest to digest. I'd start looking at examples and tutorials there and then begin (eventually) looking at the Java EE SDK.
    http://ws.apache.org/axis/
    It's a big topic, so I'd start with small chunks, good luck

  • Soundbooth dies on me

    I installed Soundbooth with Creative Suit on my computer running Vista Home Premium 64k. On starting the program it goes as far as the opening screen but then it dies as soon as I do anything, like trying to import or open a file.
    Any help??
    Thanks
    Tommy Kovacs

    Hello Tommy,
    Long time no speak.
    Sorry to see you have these problems and I'm not sure I can help you, since I hardly use SB at all. I usually use Audition.
    But what you are describing is certainly not normal behavior and I can't replicate it. I also use the Master Collection CS4 and here it works as one would expect. Opens normally and loads and displays the waveform and editing is easy. So there must be something in or on your system that causes this strange problem. First thing to check, and I have experienced that myself with AME, is to reinstall just SB. Apparently Adobe has sometimes some difficulty in installing properly as a technician explained to me. When this does not solve your problem, let's go somewhat deeper.
    Read this link, especially the second part, carefully. It contains links and hints to some information that I want to have a look at.
    If you need help quickly...Guideline for posting an effective question
    Will you please post a screenshot from Process Explorer when you are in your normal work environment with your most used applications open, not immediately after booting. Will you also attach the DXDIAG.TXT results file (tip: Instead of attaching, you can also upload the TXT file with the camera icon, this works way faster than attaching, since the file is not queued). I can likely derive your system setup from these two pieces of information, but can you also tell me whether you are using onboard sound or a separate sound card (hopefully not a Sound Blaster)?
    I can't promise I can find the answer to your problem, but I will have a look. Oh, Tommy, I just noticed you posted a question about a new PC. I don't know whether that has been answered adequately yet, but if you are still looking for an answer, I posted several guides on building a PC, storage and optimizing Vista, that may be worth to have a look at:
