Quitting ALL applications

Question

I know this is probably really simple, but I want a script that will quit all open applications. I monitor multiple labs and this would make my life so much easier.

Use a script such as:
tell application "System Events"
set the_processes to (name of every process whose visible is true)
end tell
repeat with this_process in the_processes
if this_process is not in {"Script Editor", "Finder", "Dock", "SystemUIServer", "loginwindow", "UniversalAccess"} then
tell application this_process
quit
end tell
end if
end repeat
Some GUI applications should not be quit, such as loginwindow, which keeps all other GUI processes open.
