Quitting Apple - How do I disable iCloud?

Hi,
I've decided to quit Apple. I'm getting rid of my iPhone & iPad and replacing w/Android devices. I would like to move all of my content away from iCloud and into a different Cloud storage solution. How do I do this without losing all of the music & books I have purchased? I will continue to use iTunes on Android unless I can figure out how to wean off of that. But, I'd rather not rely on iCloud any longer.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you so much! This article is very useful. I don't see any mechanism for copying all of the iBooks I purchased, but have found a few online articles that indicate iBooks is proprietary and that content is restricted only to Apple iOS devices. I will lose all of my books when I move to Android =( In hindsight, I should have purchased all of my books w/Kindle. But, at least my music is safe. Thanks again for your help!

  • How can I disable iCloud on my iMac and my iPod touch 5th gen?

My ipod touch 5th gen now syncs through icloud. How can I disable icloud from my ipod and my imac and go back to syncing through iTunes.  Is it possible to do this without losing the data in contacts and ical?  Any ideas would be much appreciated!

With the iPod connected to your computer go to the Summary pane for the iPod in iTunes and uncheck the box that says: Sync with this iPod over Wi-Fi.
Also in the Summary pane check the box that says backup to the computer.

    Hi

also i can't restore using itunes because it asks to turn off find my iphone feature. and i can't turn it off because the account is disabled
how can I restore the iphone in this case?

You can't. There isn't a way to bypass Activation Lock: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH13695 Your only option is to return the phone if possible. If not, you have a useless device.

  • ICloud preferences and other apps hang on iPhone, can't enable/disable services to sync. How to force-disable iCloud on iPhone?

    Hi,
I've been having a lot of problems since upgrading to iOS5 and enablind iCloud on my iPhone 4:
    - I've had both Contacts and the Phone app freeze repeatedly. Contacts often freezes when going back up to the "Groups" view, and I have to force-quit it to continue using it. I've also had repeated crashes of Phone when trying to view contacts.
    - Whenever I try to enable or disable services to sync in the iCloud settings screen, it hangs forever in the twirling "Turning on/off" notification. I've left it running for at least an hour once and it never finished. I have to force-quit the Settings app, and the change I request never gets applied.
I've tried restoring the phone from backup and also resetting all preferences, but the problem persists ("reset all preferences" doesn't seem to erase the iCloud settings).
I'm this close to resetting my phone to zero and reinstall everything by hand, but I thought I'd ask to see if anyone knows of a way to forcefully disable iCloud on the iPhone, or anyone has seen these types of problems before.
    Thanks!

You can see what space is available to you on the phone at settings > general > usage > storage. It's the phone that needs the space (a little over 3 GB) to install iOS7.
Back ups or the space used by them isn't really relevant for installing iOS7, but that's not something you can see at iCloud.com.

  • How do I disable iCloud on my computer?

I don't want to use iCloud, however, looking in the system preferences it shows that both my contacts and calendar are checked for using it.  I do not remember doing this.  I would prefer not to use iCloud.  In addition, I get this annoying log in screen every time I boot my computer up and I have to hit cancel.  Is there any way to disable iCloud and how would I get my contacts and calendar stored on my computer so that everything is not lost once I disable it from iCloud?
I'm using OS 10.9.5 on a Mac Pro.
    Thanks for any help,
    kt

Computers do not back up to icloud, only ios devices can do that.  Or do you mean something else?  Photo stream perhaps?  (This is not a backup.)
On your mac, System preferences>icloud, enter your ID to log into icloud.

  • How do I disable iCloud from my broken iPhone?

The screen of my iPhone 4 was destroyed and is now perminantly black - as a result I'm now using my old iPhone 3G.
My question is - when my friends with iPhones send a text it still goes out to me as an 'iMessage' and because I'm on the 3G I never receive it. Everything I've read says I need to disable iCloud from the devise...but when the screen is completely black I'm not sure how to do that. I've check iCloud.com but do not see a place where I can "unlink" my phone from the cloud – unless 'wipe my iPhone is the solution'.
Any help/ideas is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Remote Wipe should solve the problem.

  • How do I disable iCloud on iPhone5 running IOS 7?

How do I stop iCloud from running on my iPhone5 after upgrading to IOS7?
Roughly 24 hours after upgrading to IOS7, my iPhone incessantly started popping up an iCloud login window.
Canceling out of iCloud window, resuled in a new iCloud login window popping up.
The iCloud popup window would not give me enough time to do anything on my iPhone.  Including turning off Airplane mode, so entering my iCloud password would actually do some good.  Took three tries after getting iPhone connected, as if iPhone was sending garbage for password.
Never had this problem before, never got a request from iCloud for login; until I made mistake of upgrading to IOS7.
I don't use iCloud for anything, and don't want too.

  • How can I disable icloud from an old mac ?

I gave away my old Mac book Pro. I reseted the icloud password after giving away my Mac. It turns out that I have received word from the new owner that photos and videos from my icloud are showing in that Mac. Is there any way to disable icloud on that Mac?

Not for you, but you could ask the new owner to sign out of the account and delete your stuff.

  • How can I disable iCloud without having my documents deleted?

    Hello everyone.
Before trying out iCloud, I had a number of documents on my ipad. I decided to try iCloud, but upon switching it back off, my documents were deleted off of pages. Upon restarting iCloud, they reappear.
So my question is, how do I turn off iCloud without having my documents deleted?

    > Syncing documents with iCloud is not enabled by default.
Then you shouldn't come on so strong. I have a 200 Gig Dropbox account and I have been wary from day 1 of using my 1 year MobileMe "free" storage that would eventually go away if I didn't pay Apple. I would not, and did not, set iCloud to save my documents.
I'd like to get the real answer from Apple emloyees. If you can not delete from iCloud without deleting on the computer, it's a bad design. What I'm talking about is very easy with Dropbox.
    thanks

  • How do I disable iCloud's Keychain?

I have an iPhone 5S running iOS 8.1.2. When I go into my Settings> iCloud, the Keychain option reads "pending". When I go into the Keychain settings, I see that can disable the Keychain but once I go back into iCloud's settings, the Keychain still reads "pending" and the feature is still enabled.
I don't know how to disable the feature. I have an iPad that has "disabled" marked on the Keychain so I don't know what is preventing my phone's Keychain from disabling. Honestly though, the only thing I care about is getting rid of the popups that plague my phone.

I Had the same issue... 1 Mac, 2 iPhones, and one of two iPads were fine. The newest iPad was doing the "pending" thing as you describe  with those goofy pop ups every day or so. The solution was to tell the iPad when asked that I forgot keychain code, and then create a new one following the prompts. I even used the same code- go figure? Hope it helps.. Drove me nuts!

  • IPhone quit syncing with Outlook after disabling iCloud

I have a new iPhone.  I hooked it up with a cable to my laptop running Win 7 and did a sync using iTunes with Outlook Pro Plus 2010.  Everything sync'd fine (calendar, contacts, notes).  I did several syncs.  I decided to try syncing with iCloud and so installed iCloud on the pc and turned sync on the phone.  It didn't do what I thought it would so I turned it off (selected off on the iphone and uninstalled iCloud off the laptop).  At this point, I said I did not want data from iCloud saved on my phone for calendar, but I think I said to save it for the other two apps.  I then noticed that I no longer had a "calendar" listed under my calendars (I still have some internet calendars I have linked to), but not the default calendar.  I can only save new items to one of the internet calendars.  There isn't a "add calendar" button on the phone to add more calendars on the phone - only to add calendars with outlook.com, exchange, gmail, etc.
I tried syncing to Outlook, but it will no longer sync.  It will sync notes and contacts fine (I tested both and it seems to be working fine).  I have tried closing and rebooting both pc and phone, uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling, resetting sync in itunes, setting sync to push data from the pc to the phone.  I turned iCloud sync on for calendar and then shut it back off...but this time, I told it to save the data on the phone.  The "calendar" saved from pc showed up on the phone.  However, it won't sync with Outlook.  In iTunes, it was showing two "calendars" with both selected.  I added a new calendar at that point on the phone called calendar.  I deleted the other calendars that iCloud added - but still no luck on syncing.  After deleting all the iCloud calendars and the added calendar, the two listings in iTunes went away (when syncing was working, there weren't any individual calendars listed in iTunes).
I think the issue is from 1 of 2 things: 1) something got messed up with they sync and it is trying to sync to a blank calendar in my outlook - not looking at the default calendar  (unlikely)  2) it can't sync with the phone because the default calendar no longer exists on the phone (likely).
Any ideas on how to recover the default calendar or how to fix the sync issue?  I have been trying to find all I can on the internet, but after troubleshooting for several hours, I am at a loss.
    Thanks

I figured out how to recover the calendar and get syncing again (or at least a work around), so thought I would post in case someone else has the issue.  To recover the calendar, you need to log out of all calendars on the iPhone and it will recreate the default calendar.  When you try to log back into another calendar, it will ask if you want to delete the default and warn that there may be duplicates by not deleting it.  Since it was blank, duplicates wasn't a concern.
To recover syncing again, I looked up where the sync files are stored.  I copied all folders that looked like they had anything to do with syncing to a temporary folder in case I had issues that I needed to recover from.  I then went in and deleted all the sync files I could find from the date I tried to use iCloud.  I also deleted the sync database which caused iTunes to not be able to sync correctly.  Next, I did a repair on iTunes.  When it came back up, it allowed me to reset everything up as if I hadn't sync'd the phone before.  It seems to now be working again.

  • How can I disable Icloud in ios8; because there is a hacker controlling my ipad even while I am offline?

Please help if you know how I can take this hacker out of my ipad.

        Hello BadWolfe,
Here I am to save the day! Let's take a look and see what's using so much data on your iPad. Let's start with what version of the iPad do you have? Also, what's the exact iOS version installed? Can I assume that you do not have any apps running on its own? Some examples are email settings and GPS services. If you can share this info along with your common uses on the device other theb Pandora then we can investigate.
    Thank you…
