Qwest DSL with 2Wire 2700 wireless router

Hi there,
I've read the forums regarding DSL service using the 2Wire 2700HG, and I'm still having a problem with no solution.
I have an iMac G4 1GHz with Mac OS 10.4.7 and an airport extreme card installed. It will not see the wireless router (2Wire 2700HG). I have turned off network encryption, and it is broadcasting the SSID, but my mac still won't see the network. When I manually attempt to join the network, it tells me that there is an error.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Hi all. Thanks for you suggestions. I can place a PC laptop in the same location as my iMac G4, and it has no problem connecting to the network, so I don't think it is an interference issue. I also am not trying to extend an existing airport network with this 2wire device, it is the sole access point, and I'm simply trying to connect to it for internet access. I have not had a wireless network prior to this one, so this would be the first wireless network my iMac is attempting to connect to. Any other suggestions out there? Thanks so much in advance.

  • Airport Express with Belkin N1 Wireless Router

I saw Airport Express and am very interested to buy this. However, before I proceed to buy, it would want to see if it can work with my Belkin N1 Wireless Router and how.
    Preferred setup is
DSL Modem <-> Airport Express <-> Belkin N1 Wireless <-> Laptop
    Can anyone advise
    1. Can Airport work with Belkin N1 Wireless Router?
    2. How do i setup the above configuration?
If this can work, I'm going to get one immediately!! =D

    Welcome to the discussions, Richard!
    Preferred setup is
DSL Modem <-> Airport Express <-> Belkin N1 Wireless <-> Laptop
The <-> is normally a display for an ethernet connection. The AirPort Express only has one ethernet port, and it will be used to connect to the DSL modem in your example.
So, it would not be possible to connect the Belkin device the AirPort Express using <-> ethernet.

  • Using Airport Extreme with a Netopia Wireless Router 2247NWG

Hi, I'm trying to set up an airport extreme base station (AEBS) with a netopia wireless router and my XP SP3 Laptop. I have the extreme plugged into the router and the set up of the AEBS went fine. I have a solid green light on the AEBS and it appears to be working OK. When I move to another room in the house, I have two wireless networks available - the netopia wireless router and the AEBS. Whichever of the networks I connect to, the signal strength is extremely poor and the other is showing available with 5 bars. When I connect to the strong network, the signal goes weak and the original network is available with 5 bars. I've tried disabling the wireless on the router but this doesn't help. The router network is still showing as available with 5 bars but I can't connect to it.
First day with my MAC gear (haven't even opened the MacBook box yet) and I need help!!!!!!!!!!!

So, today I finally broke down and plugged them both into the two available ports in the back of the AEBSn via ethernet cables. My question is: Do I have to "turn off" the airport connection in order to make the ethernet connection the default connection?
That might help but it isn't necessary. You can simply rearrange the order of items in the Network preference pane.
Search on the internet and you will find many ways to check the speed. One is http://us.mcafee.com/root/speedometer/default.asp

  • Persistent problems with Linksys WRT54GS Wireless Router

I'm currently running Vista with a Linksys WRT54GS router. As earlier discussed in this forum I am still having intermittent problems with the ATV taking down my network. Anyone else experienced this and come up with a sure fire fix?
When it's working I like the set up but I have to say, it is not nearly stable enough to be an everyday solution for getting my music and photos to my living room.
    Thanks.

Hi, I am having the same problem -- my 2WIRE modem from AT&T recently blew up. So, I purchased the WRT54GS. As soon as I reconnected the AppleTV to the new router via a wireless connection, all of my machines (Mac and PC) lost their internet connections. I'm seriously considering going out and getting another 2WIRE.

  • Need help with my E2100L Wireless Router

I moved back home with the parents after graduating from college while I'm searching for a job and I noticed my parent's wireless internet connection was really poor. I'm normally pretty decent with computers but I haven’t been able to fix this problem so I am hoping if I explain it to you fine folks and can point me in the right direction to getting everything running properly.
The problem I’m having is with the wireless signal fluctuating frequently when I’m not in the same room with the router. I know the issue is not with Comcast or the modem because when I remove the router and just plug into the modem I get 25 Mbps all day long when I run a test on Speedtest.net.
The setup is Comcast Internet 25 Mbps, SB6120 Modem, and Linksys E2100L Wireless Router with WPA2/WPA security activated.
Before I touched anything the modem and router were originally in my parent’s bedroom. I was getting speeds of less than 1 Mbps if any when I was in my bedroom so I moved them into the living room to be more centrally located. Our house is a one story house with bedrooms divided by the living room. The move seemed to help a little but something was still really wrong so I did a hard reset on the router. I setup up the network manually by going through the settings on 192.168.1.1. which made things work a little better. However I still wasn’t getting close to the speeds I should have been getting and when in my bedroom the connection would sometimes drop out altogether. So I did another hard reset on the router and this time I used the CD that came with it (Cisco Connect) to setup the network. That has got my problem halfway fixed because now if I am in the living room and my laptop is connected wirelessly when I run the speed test I get 25 Mbps.
I thought I have solved everything because in my bedroom the signal was now very good at 20 Mbps… except the 20 Mbps didn’t last. It held around 20 Mbps for the about first 10 minutes but then dropped to about 16 Mbps for a while. A day later when I run the test I now range anywhere from 3 Mbps to 14 Mbps. There seems to be no consistency. I did a hard reset again and setup the network using the CD and the problem persists. I get 20 Mbps in the very beginning and then it lowers from there and fluctuates frequently.
I thought it might be a firmware issue so I successfully updated it today to the latest firmware “1.0.05 build 4 Mar 8, 2012” but the same thing happens. I just don’t get it. Why am I able to get 20 Mbps for the first few min in my bedroom and then it’s a crapshoot thereafter?  If it were interference wouldn’t the interference always be there and not be a gradual onset? Why when I’m in the living room with the router is it perfect at 25 Mbps but as soon as I go to my bedroom I get a much much lower connection speed.
I could handle the speed being lower if it was consistent but it’s not. This post has taken me about 20 min to type and while doing so I ran the test a few times at a couple minutes apart and got 3 Mbps, 7 Mbps, and 10 Mbps speeds. Someone please help! This is driving me crazy!!!

When in my bedroom there are only 2 other networks available to join that belong to neighbors but their signal strength is fair at best while my signal dances between being excellent and good. There is no microwave oven, cordless phone, or garage between me and the router. When I'm in my bedroom I'm no more than 10 feet from the actual router and only seperated by a wall and I'm pretty sure its not a brick wall.
Again I don't understand how it could be interference. If there was something interfering wouldn't it always be interfering? Like I said in my first post every time I reset the network I get speeds of 20 Mbps for the first few min in my bedroom and then it gradually lowers and I get a fluctuating speed between 3 and 14 Mbps.
In the settings there is no channel width option of 40 MHz only. I get "20 MHz only" and "Auto(20MHz or 40MHz)" as my options. I have tried them both but don't really notice a difference.
I am going to try the insider program today to see what its results are.

  • ISSUE With my WRT600N Wireless Router --

Hello, I am having trouble with my Wireless Router. It is the WRT600N model Linksys Router and the issue I am specifically having is my wireless access. I have several devices which access wirelessly and am starting to have more and more issues of late, not sure why...?
I was wondering how to configure each device accessing my wireless net individually as I have Network MAgic asnd have seen a couple of the items on my network with the same ip addresses. I would like to assign a number to each device and see if that eliminates the issues I have been experiencing..?
I have looked through these question pages and have not found the answer I was looking for so I hope this has not been asked before. I also saw a post that kind of caught my interest and it was regarding using two WRT600N's routers together for better range etc. I have an issue with raqnge on my system and have an old WRT54 Router and would like to know if I could do the same thing with this and incorporate this router into my system as a wireless access point (WAP) only. If this is possible, what would the steps be to accomplish this...
My main issue I chose to writer about here was recently experienced when I got an Ipad and my Ipad has issues remaining connected to my WRT600N Router and I checked my network program and noticed that it was assigned the samw IP address as one of my boys X-Boxes. I believe currently we have approximately 9-11 devices that periodically connect wirelessly to my network. Some devices are PSP's and only occassionally connect and I have NEVER seen all the devcices connect at the same time. I believe the max at once would be approximately 5-6 devices.  Is this too many at once...?  Is the router overloaded with the amount of devices I have connected...?
Please let me know what you would recommend for my situation,
    Darius Taylor

2 wireless routers can not communicate wirelessly with each other.
You need to connect cable between 2 routers and use the second wireless router as access point.
Follow this link to connect Linksys router to another router.
Some of your devices are getting same IP address. This might be the issue with DHCP server of the router. You can try DHCP reservation on the router so that each device will get unique IP address.

  • HT1178 How do I set-up my Time Capsule to work with my existing Wireless Router?

The existing  wireless router is my connection to the Internet and I would like to keep it that way. I really want the TC to fuction as an external Hard Drive/Server, Backup Disc! The TC is where all my Music and Photos are located together with my Backups!
I have tried different configurations and I get it to work for a wile, but after a few minutes it will disappear from my Air Port Utility, a rescan will not bring it back, but if I unplug and then plug it back in it will reappear. However if the TC shows in Air Port Utility or not the TC still shows up on my Desktop.
What Settings should I use in Air Port Utility, Should the Ethernet Cable be plugged into Ethernet or LAN Port?
    My Current Settings are:
Ethernet Cable: Connected to the ETHERNET PORT
    AirPor Tab:
    Wireless Mode: OFF
    Connect Using: ETHERNET
    Internet Tab: Internet Connection
    Connect Using: ETHERNET
    Connection Sharing: OFF (BRIDGE MODE)
    TCP/IP:
    Configure IPv4: USING DHCP

    I am Running OS 10.5.8 on a PowerBook G4.
Below you will see the Log (IP Address, AirPort ID, Eternet ID, Subnet Mask, Router Address, DNS Server Info has been removed).
I had the TC was originally set-up connected to a DLS Modem, all worked fine Backups over TM all was ok, but then the Modem died. (I upgraded to a Wireless Router). I did have it set up, but I nolonger know the settings, I wanted to do a backup with TM, which had not been done for a long time (6 months)
I tried to backup, but either it was not working or was taking sooooo long, that I decided to do the Backup over Ethernet (still took the hole day for 8.5 GB). I had read that I nedded to chang my setting to be able to Backup with Ethernet. Did not Save the previous settings hence my problem!

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500 wireless Networking with LINKSYS WRT54GS wireless router

I have a HP Officejet Pro 8500 wireless printer conneted via WiFi to my LYNKSYS WRT54GS wireless router.  I do not have a USB cable or ethernet cable plugged to the printer.  I am able to use the 'scan to email button' and the 'scan to network folder' button on the front of the printer and I can pint from the PC to the printer with no problems.
I installed the HP printer software from the CD, choosing network/wireless connection, without having to install any USB cables from the PC to the printer in the process.  many posts in the forum mention having to connect USB cables in the wireless installation process.
Can I install the software in the same fashion on the other two laptops? Or, do I need to do something differently?

The USB cable is used on those printers which do not have display or front panel wireless setup is not possible. We configure the wireless settings during install and save those settings in printer's memory by transferring through USB cable. Therefore the USB is plugged in during wireless installation temporarily. In your case I don't think plugging in USB cable is necessary as the printer is already on network and had IP address. Connect the laptops on wireless network and proceed with regular install, the printer should be detected automatically.

  • Does the Xbox 360 wireless adapter even work with the WRT54G wireless router?!!? If so, how???

I just bought a WRT54G wireless router (Ver 8.0; firmware updated to latest).  I have successfully connected my wireless laptop using WEP security, but I'm at wits end trying to get the Xbox 360 wireless adapter to work.  (It worked just fine with my Netgear router until that router recently died.)
When I do the "Test Media Connection" routine (you XBox 360 users know what I'm referring to), the Xbox immediately recognizes the Network Adapter and indicates that it is connected to the Wireless Network, but it inevitably fails the next step in the process:  IP Address.  I have the set-up for the IP address to be assigned automatically by the router (which is set for  DHCP Server enabled).
I have gone around the mountain innumerable times myself and then with well-meaning friends who say try this, try that, try this, try that.  I've had to re-establish my laptop set-up so many times I wanna scream!
Are the Xbox 360 wireless adapter and the WRT54G even compatible?  If so, what am I missing here?  I'm not too technical and obviously in over my head, but this ought not be that hard.
Please, please do NOT respond unless you KNOW the answer!  I don't mean to be curt, but I'm over / past "suggestions to try."
Thank you VERY much for your time and consideration if you can help me.

I don't think that the X-BOX adapter is not compatible to wireless rotuer .... there are few settings you can try on the router ... Access router setup page ... Please click on the tab "Application and gaming" and click on sub tab "Port range forwarding" 1) On the first line in Application box type in "Xbox", in start box type in 88, in end box type in 88, in protocol keep it both, in ip address type in 192.168.1.20 and give a check mark on enable box. 2) On the second line in Application box type in "Xbox", in start box type in 3074, in end box type in 3074, in protocol keep it both, in ip address type in 192.168.1.20 and give a check mark on enable box. 3) Now save the settings 4) Once you return to the setup page, click on the tab "Administration" and disable the UPNP and save the settings. 5) Now assign the given ip address on your xbox ip address :- 192.168.1.20 subnet mask :- 255.255.255.0 default gateway :- 192.168.1.1 Please assign the dns address on the xbox primary dns :- 4.2.2.2 secondary dns :- 192.168.1.1 6) Please try to test your xbox live. Hope it works ...

  • Is the WRE54G range extender compatible with the WRT300N wireless router?

I bought a WRT300N wireless router, hoping it would give me better range than my old hub.  It's pretty good, but I still have dead spots in my apartment.  I'd like to buy a WRE54G range extender, but I don't know if it's compatible.  Anyone try this?

i don't think that the wre54g would work with the n-router .. rather i would suggest you to setup a wap200 or wap54gp wired to the router and configured as an AP ... if it still falls short of the wireless range .. configure another one in a repeater mode ...

  • Problems with BEFW11S4 V2 Wireless Router

I just brought in this BEFW11S4 V2 to work to use as a temporary wireless router. Last night I had it working perfectly at home, updated the firmware got it all setup for work and all was good.
I bring it in today power it on, plug an ethernet cable into it and a desktop so that I can get my WEP password off the 192.168.1.1 ui. Bam windows comes up with limited or no connectivity. Try to enter setup anyways through ie and its a no go. Run an ipconfig get a 169.254.160.74, something ive never witnessed. Did a release and a renew, no dice. Tryed on another computer, same deal. So I download linksys site advisor program maybe it will fix this, nope it says that it doesnt detect a router. Ive tryed other ethernet cables and nothing seems to work.
Can anyone help me? I dont know where to go? Is there anyway I can set the router to factory defualts without being able to enter the ie ui? Help is greatly appreciated.

Issue Resolved, figured out how to hard reset it.

  • Can anyone help me with my wrt54gs wireless router?

We have the wrt54gs V7 wireless router hooked up to an older HP desktop computer (running on WindowsXP) and have had a work laptop hooked up to the wireless router for 2 years w/o any problems.  We just bought a new laptop running on Windows 7 and although we can see our wireless as an option, have keyed in the Secure Key #, we still cannot connect.  I tried running the Linksys set up cd that came w/ the router to set up the wireless connection on the new laptop and it says the disk is not able to run on the operating system.  I went thru the process to add a new wireless computer from the desktop/using a USB drive to load the wireless app but when I plug in the USB to the new laptop it stops the set up and says the wireless radio is off on the laptop even though the wireless is on.   I am at a loss on how to connect!!    1) how do I get the new laptop to connect to our current wireless router if the set up disk and the USB drive methods do not work?  2) if we eventually get rid of the desktop computer what do I need to do to ensure our wireless connection stays on?
I am ready to throw the new laptop out the window so any help is MUCH appreciated!!

You don't need the setup disk for anything.  Connect with a wired computer to 192.168.1.1username blank, password 'admin' (or wahtever you changed it too).  Now look up your security and enter it into your new laptop.
    Go here for help.

  • Will a MacBook be OK with my BT wireless router?

I have several windows PCs happily connected to the internet via a BT wireless router.
I'm thinking of getting a MacBook which will have Airport Extreme Wi-Fi capability.
Am I OK to assume that the MacBook will connect to the internet via my existing router? I'm assuming that as far as the MacBook's concerned 'talking' to my router at home is no different to if I sit down with it in a Wi-Fi enabled cafe somewhere.
Or am I being hopelessly optimistic?
I'm guessing a fair few of you guys will have dealt with the same issue.
I'd be really grateful if anyone could advise me.
    Many Thanks.

    Update:
Switched on my refurb-ed Macbook for the first time about ten minutes ago, connected to the internet no problem. Sweet.
    Thanks again.

  • Having issues with my WRT54GS Wireless Router.

So, I've had this wireless router running for a couple years now and I've consistently had problems with it. One of the main problems that keeps occurring is that I lose connection often. About every 2 hours or so, all devices that are running off of the wireless connection lose connection randomly. All I do is unplug the router for about 10 seconds and plug it back in and everything is fine. Another 2 hours will pass by and then the connection is lost yet again. This cycle repeats itself all day everyday and I have no clue why. Also, while I'm on this desktop computer which is an XP and is wired to the router, I get constant notices that a new device has been detected. While I only have 2 computers connected to the router, it says I have over 15 unnamed computers on the wireless connection. I don't why this is and I really want to fix it. Is there a way that I can entirely reset my router and start the setup all over? What should I do with these problems?

    Is your network secured..?
Make sure that your network is secured and have good security key.Open the router setup page and try the follwing settings.
    - Change the MTU to 1350
    - Change the SSID to some unique name
    - Change the Wireless Channel to 11-2.462GHz
    - Change the Beacon Interval to 75,Fragmentation Threshold to 2304,RTS Threshold to 2304.
    - Set WPA2 Security.
