Do you think it is a TNSNAMES issue?

I am attempting to install 11g, 11.1.0 onto a stand alone box which has Windows XP SP2 as the OS.
The box is at present not networked and as is not on a domain. The computer name is homedb.
I have installed the loopback adapter on 10.10.10.10 and updated my hosts file, the computer can resolve this to the computer name and vice versa.
Upon installing 11g and the starter database, the install continues normally, succeeding with the Oracle Net Configuration Assistant. However when the Oracle Database Configuration Assistant is run, 89% of the way through an error is thrown as follows:

You can retry configuring this database with Enterprise Manager later by manually running C:\Oracle\product\11.1.0\db_1\bin\emca script.
When I click ok on the error message the install completes as normal.

I have re run the db configuration again but it would not start because apparently there was no listener, running the Net Configuration Assistant makes no difference.
All firewalls and anti virus software have been disabled for the purposes of this install.
Do I need to manually register the listener with the database, if so how do I go about doing this?
I have installed 10g on a standalone box before with no trouble, what have I missed here?, any help greatly appreciated. To answer my own question I fixed this by issuing the command
netsh winsocks reset
Winsocks deals with windows networking and can become corrupt through installs of software, virus cleaning, etc.
Hope that helps,

To install a listener and Hetrogeneous Services
Hi all!
To install a listener and Hetrogeneous Services, do a custom Oracle Database install, and only install "Oracle Net Services/Oracle Net Listener" and "Oracle Transparent Gateways" (but do not select any of the gateways).
i have done this in seprate ORACLE HOME but i did not find initodbc.ora and initoledb.ora sample files in
D:\ora920_oh\hs\admin
but i found listener.ora.sample and tnsnames.ora.sample files
Now what should i install to find the initodbc.ora initoledb.ora sample files.help me please

Is there any problem with installing the Listener with APEX 4.1
Hi Udo,
With your help, I have already installed the listener on apex 4.0.2.
Now I tried doing the same steps, but as I click apply, in the "listenerConfigure" page, I get an empty page...
I visited :
http://localhost:5555/apex/apex_admin
http://localhost:5555/apex/
Yet, I still get an empty page....
What could be the problem ????
Regards,
FatehThanks Udo,
As I mentioned in the beginning of the thread. After I configure the listener on http://localhost:3333/apex/listenerConfigure , I get an empty page.
Now, if I visit this page http://localhost:3333/apex/listenerConfigure:
I get this message:
The APEX Listener is already configured. Please login as Administrator to access APEX Listener Administration. If I visit : http://localhost:3333/apex/listenerAdmin, I get the configuration page. When I click apply, I get an empty page...
if I visit http://localhost:3333/apex/ or http://localhost:3333/apex/apex_admin, I get an empty page....
Best Regards,
Fateh.

Issues installing. Listener not working
I have installed 10g.
The listener service does not start.
I have created some databases with sqldeveloper.
The listener does not start.
I use a new OS install, new oracle install, use lsnrctl to start the listener.
It does not restart, and it does not create TNSNAMES.ora
I have tried using net manager and net configuration assistant, but there are still problems with listener, it did not save tnsnames.ora, and for every DB I created, it created twon, one with XTP in it's name, IIRC)
The only wierd things I could find in the logs were that installActions<date time>.log has these entries:
INFO: Setting the PROD_HOME variable of 'oracle.network.listener_10.2.0.1.0' to ''. Received the value from the variable calculation.
INFO: oracle.network.listener Product Location: Empty path specified.
INFO: Setting variable 's_net8TNSNamesLoc' to 'NO_VALUE'. Received the value from the variable calculation.
I checked the forums, and there is nothing I could find that I could understand about how to install tns listener, only how to start it on a case by case basis.
The DBs I create work fine, until I reboot the system.
It does not seem to load tnsnames.ora when I start it, or tell it to reload.
Also, ORACLE_HOME is not created during the install.
I put ORACLE in the env vars, but that makes no difference to the rest of the problem.
I have been around for a long time, but never had to do any oracle admin, and this has fully stressed my limited knowledge.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
spizmarI am running Windows Server 2003, not Fedora.
As I stated earlier, I installed with the sample DB, and this seams to have solved the problem of getting the listener service in place.
I created the 4 DBs I talked about earlier, and before I rebooted, they were fine.
After having rebooted, they are not visible to the listener. I look in the listener.log, and there are a consistant series of:

So, I am still confused. It acts like the listener is ignoring the tnsnames file. Is there a way to force the listener to load a particular file? I tried the obvious of lsnrctl reload <file path and name>
but no joy.

11gR2 Install Error, Listener is not up or database service is not registered with it
Hi all,
I'm currently studying towards my OCA, I've passed 1z0-051 (SQL Fundementals I), and now I'm moving onto 1z0-052 (Admin 1).
Im really having trouble creating a database in Oracle 11g R2 Enterprise Edition. I install the software no problem. Then I create a database, and during the creation I have to createsa listener which uses TCP (default port:1521) and IPC. whilst creating the database I get the following error
'Listener is not up or database service is not registered with it. Start the Listener and register database service and run EM configuration Assistant again.'
Now, before you lynch me, I have searched this forum for answer to this for a day and a half. I've also tried google, i just can't find a answer that sorts out my problem. please assist me.
I'm running on Windows 7 Professional (32bit) (I have previously tried on the 64 bit version with teh same results).

I can login as sys into my database through sqlplus, so it seems the database is up and running, it just seems to be a listener problem maybe??
Many thanks for any assistance that you give. I'm learning so be gentle...
DamienSOLVED!
OK all solved now, thanks to the link to Ed Stevens website that Baris posted (mucho respect )
Seems that like Barus said I was not using Dynamic Registration, which means that I would need to manua
ly update the listerner.ora file. On top of that it seems that for some my tnsnames.ora wasn't resolving mt database name so the tnsping wasfailing.
What I did to solve the name resolution problem
1. Opened the
Network Configuration Assistant and saw that my listener didnt have my DB registered with it. So I added it. What this horrible GUI tool does is update the tnsnames and listener.ora files for you. So once that was done I went to the command prompt and did ;'tnsping <dn name> and hey presto it was getting a nice response.
Then I re-ran my DB Configuration Assistant and tried to reconfigure my database. However it aing failed and gave me the same message that I was originally getting about the DB Service not being registered etc..the lister status still said that same thing:
Services Summary...
Service "CLRExtProc" has 1 instance(s).
Instance "CLRExtProc", status UNKNOWN, has 1 handler(s) for this service...
the 'unknown' means that the DB didnt tell the listener that it was there but instead the listener is in manual mode and will just use the configuration in the listener.ora to know where the DB is.
So then I followed the steps on the ED Stevens website (follow the link). He has steps which show how to enable Dynanmic registration so that your DB regusters itself with the listener. In a nutshell, he states that he listener actually doesnt need the listerner.ora if using dynamic registration. I shutdown the DB, stopped the listener then I renamed the lsitener.ora to listerner.old, then started the lietener and checked the status and it said 'the listener supports no service' I then started the DB and, then resched teh listener status, it then read 'status: READY'... hooray!, the DB had dynamically registered itself with the listener. I then was able to successfully start up and run Enterprise Manager.
Thanks for all your help Baris, and Ed Steven website.
I know more now than when I started so I'm happy.
Thanks. -

can use the products but this shouldn't be fine... do I have to stop a service or grant some permission ? any help is appreciated.
thanks & regards, not having any JAVA_HOME env var. Did some checkings and :
- one machine was having Java libraries because of DB2
- the other machine was a fresh Win2003SP1 with SQL Server 2005
guess can set JAVA_HOME to C:\Hyperion\common\JRE\Sun\1.5.0 before installing Essbase, but also guess it's a documented/automatic step... wonder what I'm missing ?
doing the most basic-mode installations (defaults, automatic deployments), once I get them clean will perform more sophisticated ones. Searched the 9.3.1 doc PDFs without useful findings. -

Changing the host.domain once R12 is installed..
Hello all,
We installed R12 on a brand new machine (named localhost.localdomain). It installed fine and we were able to get to it by http://<ipaddress>:8000. The system administrator wants to change this to <XYZHOST>.<ABCDOMAIN>. What do we need to ensure that the app still functions correctly?
We have changed /etc/hosts
127.0.0.1 <XYZHOST>.<ABCDOMAIN>
and am able to ping by name and Ip.
We are having no problem logging and looking at the JSP pages of R12. The forms however are not cooperating at all :). Any ideas/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
SuryWe have changed /etc/hosts
127.0.0.1 <XYZHOST>.<ABCDOMAIN>keep this as before and add new line with your ipaddress and your hostname.domainname then follow mdtaylor insractions
ip_address hostname.domainname

Hi,
I have installed EBS R12 using rapidwiz (on 1-node only, both apps and db are on the same server). Does it alow 2-node split set-up too? (1 sever for apps tier and 1 server for db tier).
Please give me doc links for split config install.
Thanks(by the way, by saying split i understand it uses two servers, one for the apps tier and one for the db tier, right?)This is called Multi-node installation. When the application and database tiers run on different nodes with different OS, then it is called split configuration.
Option A: I want to split the current node to other nodes, both servers with the same OS (Windows 2003 or linux). Use Rapid Clone.
Option B: I want to split by moving out the apps tier to another server (pls give me metalink note for this)Use Rapid Clone.
Note: 406982.1 - Cloning Oracle Applications Release 12 with Rapid Clone
https://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showDocument?p_database_id=NOT&p_id=406982.1
Option C: I want to split the current node to two different OS. (one windows and one linux) (pls give me metalink note for this)To migrate the application tier to Linux, check the following note:
Note: 438086.1 - Platform Migration with Oracle Applications Release 12
https://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showDocument?p_database_id=NOT&p_id=438086.1
To migrate the database from one OS to different OS, then you need to use export/import.
I am just confused with all the metalink notes that handles this different process. Are they all uses the theory of cloning? If the source and target nodes are binary compatible, then you can use Rapid Clone.
What I mean is you can run it one time where it can detect and access two servers to configure at the same time, the apps-tier node/server and the db-tier node/server.Again, if the OS is the same then this is called Multi-node installation, and RapidWiz supports this.
Or what it can do is to run it twice, the first is install apps tier on server1 and run it again to install the db-tier on the server2.
Then you register the db tier to the apps tier. Is this correct? You run RapidWiz on the database tier, then on the application tier. You do not have to register any tier.
I am really confused with a lots of possibilities or combinations of setting up EBS Oracle Apps. It too challenging :) Please feel free to ask :) -
Partitioning Advice For E-business R12 Vision Install Using OEL6
Hi,
I am planning to do a fresh install of OEL to use as Oracle R12 test bed with Vision demo database.
Not planning to dual boot. OEL will be the only OS used.
Unfortunately, after spending the past few days I still couldn't determine the optimal partition scheme for my install.
I have a desktop system with the following configuration:
I5-3570K
128GB SSD
750GB HDD
8GB RAM
I'm relatively new to Linux and as such do not understand much in terms of the partition scheme.
Awaiting your responses.
Best Regards.A SSD drive is not bound to the same physical aspects and performance limitations like a conventional hard disk. However, it's news to me that you cannot or should not partition a SSD drive. Where did you see this information?
You can create a /var and /tmp partition, but I any unnecessary partition will complicate your setup for no good reason. You can also create a swapfile and thereby increase your swap space on demand if necessary, instead of using a fixed swap partition. Why do you think installing a /var and /tmp partition will make any difference for your self-study environment?
Your /boot partition needs to be on the startup drive, e.g. SSD drive. Your root (/) partition can be anywhere else, provided it can be accessed. Why would you use the SSD drive for root and put /var and /tmp on HDD? I can't see how +/- a couple of GB will make any difference on your SSD drive.
If you need advice about the setup of Oracle EBS you better post your question in the appropriate Oracle EBS forum. Regarding the OS and general database configuration, my previous response still applies.

Hi ppl,
I'm new to Oracle and i'm trying to install Oracle Apex Listener but when i try to open the apex.war file is giving me an error:
$ java -jar apex.war
Failed to load Main-class manifes attribute from apex
i see in another topic that if i create a txt file inserting the MainClass: Main-Class that my error will disappear.
i'm using VM with OEL 5Hi, and welcome to the OTN forums,
does your OEL have a proper JDK available? Please note that APEX Listener requires at least a JDK 1.6 Update 20 (really JDK, not just JRE) to work properly.
To verify, you can run
java -versionIf you JDK is fine, could you please describe which version of APEX Listener you are trying to start that way?
