R3Load Unicode Export

How do I confirm that R3Load has done a unicode conversion in the db export? I have run all the pre unicode conversion tasks, and SAPINST to do the db export. Is there a way to confirm that the conversion has occured on my export files before I blow away the source database?

Hello David,
If the system is up and running you can logon to system then select system in the menu bar then click on status. If the status of Unicode is set to 'Yes' the system is unicode now.
Thanks & Regards

  • Error in unicode export...

    Hi,
    We are doing an inplace conversion of an ERP2005SR2 system. We have just upgraded the system from 4.6C yesterday and are now performing an unicode conversion.
    Unfortunately we have an error in the unicode export... See below:

    I have an OSS message on "very-high" on this error, but they are not helping very much! SAP has proposed note 738858 were we set two environment variables. We have done this and that did not help.
    We have upgraded and unicode converted two test systems and one development system in the last 2 months without this error.
    Do you have any ideas?
    Best regards

    Hello!!:
    I'm doing a CU&UC (as say the CU&UC Guide), and now i'm in the phase of upgrade from 46C MDMP to ECC6.0 no unicode (later in other phase i've to change to unicode).  I've generated all the SCAN's, and launch the SAPup (Upgrade Process).  The phase UPGRADE/SHADOW: START OF PHASE RUN_RADCUCNT_ALL of the SAPup has created the job RADCUCNTUPG, and has been running during 20 hours. It's possible to do this phase quickly??.
    Otherwise, in the chapter 3.2.2 Phase RUN_RAD_CUCNT_NEW is going to regenerated the DDIC Objects. So in the Additional Preparation Steps in SAP NW7.0 nonUC (chapter 4.1. of the guide) will be neccesary to launch again the program RADCUCNT with the variant UNICODE-02??? or we've only to do the seven steps that appears in the Guide???.
    I've seen the Note 932779, 837173, about this, but i don't see the solution. In the page 7 and 8 of the Note OSS 932779, say that:
    - during CU&UC nametab is touched twice, once for upgrade and once for unicode conversion (in phase RADCUCNT_ALL and in phase RADCUCNT_NEW).
    - later appears that during unicode conversion preparation (SPUM4/SPUMG) RADCUCNT runs again twice.
    So in the chapter 4.1 about additional preparation steps in NW7.0 non UC there is not this step (only appears7 steps). It's really neccesary in the CU&UC in this moment?
    Thanks!.
    Alfredo.

    Hi

    We checked the note 913783 as per the CUUC guide but the correction only for package SAPKB70004 to 6. but we are in package SAPKB70011.
    We had found two notes:
    1. Note 1238351 - Hom./Het.System Copy SAP NW 7.0 incl. Enhancement Package 1
    :Solution:
    There are two possible workarounds:
    1. Modify DDL<dbs>.TPL (<dbs> = ADA, DB2, DB4, DB6, IND, MSS, ORA) BEFORE the R3load TSK files are generated;
                  search for the keyword "negdat:" and add "CLU4" and "VER_CLUSTR" to thisline.
    2. Modify the TSK file (most probably SAPCLUST.TSK) BEFORE R3load import is(re-)started.
                  search for the lines starting with "D CLU4 I" and "D VER_CLUSTR I" and change the status (i.e. "err" or "xeq") to "ign" or remove the lines. "
    I tried the above solution by editing the file DDL*.TPL but it is skipping the table and marks it as completed but its not the good solution as we will be miss the data from the table RFBLG.
    2. Note 991401 - SYSCOPY EXPORT FAILS:SAPCLUST:ERROR: Code page conversion:
    Solution
    Activate the table.
    Then call the RADCUCNT report. Do not change the selected parameters, but ensure that 'Overwrite Entries' is selected.  Set the 'Unicode Length' to 2 and fill the last two fields 'Type' and 'Name' with TABL and TACOPAB respectively. Then select 'No Log' or specify a log name.
    Execute the RADCUCNT report and restart the export.
    We have not tried this solution, bcos SAP is still down and CDCLS job is still running.
    We would like to know whether you have faced any issues like the above one and what is your suggested approach and solution.
    Is it safe to start SAP now (when the CDCLS job runs) and then try to activate the table RFBLG?

    Edited by: J. Senthil Murugan on Nov 3, 2008 3:36 AM

    Hi Senthil,
    If you have done your pre-conversion steps before upgrade and after upgrade successfully then you should not see the below errors. However changes to SPDD tables may some times also have some impact during conversion and throws nametab errors occurs. Program RADCUCNT runs in the end of upgrade to update nametab tables if any new changes happned during upgrade.
    You can do any no of exports to complete  jobs successfully.yeah When export running you shouldnt bring SAP up.
    The tables you have mentioned all are cluster tables and CDCLS being the biggest table it will take hrs to complete depending on your size of the database.
    Do not pay around with the .TSK file until if you are sure you want to re-execute it.Your first possiblility is skipped because there may be multiple same .TSK files present locally(where u r running distribution.monitor (or) sapinst ) and on the common directory. You may also look at the .TSK.bkp files because it get information and creates a new .TSK. This is not complicated but tricky.
    secound possibility is to update the changed tables(eg: RFBLG...)  to conversion tables.Follow the Note but make sure no R3load processes are running before you start SAP. If you dont want to wait long and sure to restart other processes which are running you can kill it and start SAP. Specify your error tables only and follow instructions given in the note.Once done bring down  SAP app. and restart the export process using ur sapinst or distribution monitor.
    Regards,
    Vamshi.

  • Estimating Unicode Export / Import time

    hithere,
    Is there a good methog of estimating the unicode export/import runtime . for a 9cpu system with 500 GB of database size , what is the thumbrule of calculating the runtime.
    welcome your ideas and suggestion..

    Hi,
    You can also use [SAP Downtime Assessment Service|https://websmp105.sap-ag.de/upgradeservices] from SAP.

    I did finish all the unicode preconversion steps and also ran the SMIGR_CREATE_DDL program. I had exported recently from the same system but I never got this error during that run.
    Another question is about the order in which the steps need to be performed. I completed the preconversion steps, then ran the SMIGR_CREATE_DDL program before proceeding to the export phase. Is this right or does it not matter?
    Thanks again for your help!

    Hello Stacy,
    > When I run the following command on /BIC/SZTERR_CD, I do not get any table information back. I am not sure how to fix it though.
    > SELECT * FROM DBA_OBJECTS WHERE OBJECT_NAME = '/BIC/SZTERR_CD ';
    If the object does not exists on the source target database, please check if the ddic of sap still contains the table definition. (SE11 or SE14)
    If yes you can set the status of the table /BIC/SZTERR_CD to "ok" in the corresponding task file.
    You can not fix this problem in other way after you have started the conversion, because of the export files are already generated (with the information of the sap ddic)...
    > I completed the preconversion steps, then ran the SMIGR_CREATE_DDL program before proceeding to the export phase. Is this right or does it not matter?
    That was the right way.

  • Unicode export:Table-splitting and package splitting

    Hi SAP experts,
    I know there are lot of forums related to this topic, but I have some new questions and hence posting a new thread.
    We are in the process of doing unicode conversion in our landscape(CRM 7.0 system based on NW 7.01) and we are running on AIX 6.1 and DB2 9.5. The database size is around 1.5 TB and hence, we want to go in for optimization for export and import in order to reduce the downtime.As a part of the process, we have tried to do table-splitting and parallel export-import to reduce the downtime.
    However, we are having some doubts whether this table-splitting has actually worked in our scenario,as the export has exeucted for nearly 28 hours.
    The steps followed by us :
    1.) Doing the export preparation using SAPINST
    2.) Doing table splitting preparation, by creating a table input file having entries in the format <tablename>%<No.of splits>.Also, we have used the latest R3ta file and the dbdb6slib.o(belonging to version 7.20 even though our system is on 7.01) using SAPINST.
    3.) Starting with the export using SAPINST.
    some observations and questions:
    1.) After completion of tablesplitting preparation, there were .WHR files that were generated for each of the tables in DATA directory of export location. However, how many .WHR files should be created and on what basis are they created?
    2.) I will take an example of a table PRCD_CLUST(cluster table) in our environment, which we had split. We had 29 *.WHR files that were created for this particular table. The number of splits given for this table was 36 and the table size is around 72 GB.Also, we noticed that the first 28 .WHR files for this table, had lots of records but the last 29th .WHR file, had only 1 record. But we also noticed that, the packages/splits for the 1st 28 splits were created quite fast but the last one,29th one took a long time(serveral hours) to get completed.Also,lots of packages were generated(around 56) of size 1 GB each for this 29th split. Also, there was only one R3load which was running for this 29th split, and was generating packages one by one.
    3.) Also,Our question here is that is there any thumb rule for deciding on the number of splits for a table.Also, during the export, are there any things that need to be specified, while giving the inputs when we use table splitting,in the screen?
    4.) Also, what exactly is the difference between table-splitting and package-splitting? Are they both effective together?
    If you have any questions and or need any clarifications and further inputs, please let me know.
    It would be great, if we could get any insights on this whole procedure, as we know a lot of things are taken care by SAPINST itself in the background, but we just want to be certain that we have done the right thing and this is the way it should work.

    Hi,
    First of all please ignore my very first response ... i have accidentally posted a response to some other thread...sorry for that
    Now coming you your questions...
    > 1.) Can package splitting and table-splitting be used together? If yes or no, what exactly is the procedure to be followed. As I observed that, the packages also have entries of the tables that we decided to split. So, does package splitting or table-splitting override the other, and only one of the two can be effective at a time?
    Package splitting and table splitting works together, because both serve a different purpose
    My way of doing is ...
    When i do package split i choose packageLimit 1000 and also split out the tables (which i selected for table split)  into seperate package (one package per table). I do it because that helps me to track those table.
    Once the above is done i follow it up with the R3ta and wheresplitter for those tables.
    Followed by manual migration monitor to do export/import , as mentioned in the previous reply above you need to ensure you sequenced you package properly ... large tables are exported first , use sections in the package list file , etc
    > 2.) If you are well versed with table splitting procedure, could you describe maybe in brief the exact procedure?
    Well i would say run R3ta (it will create multiple select queries) followed by wheresplitter (which will just split each of the select into multiple WHR files)  ...
    Best would go thought some document on table spliting and let me know if you have specific query. Dont miss the role of hints file.
    > 3.) Also, I have mentioned about the version of R3ta and library file in my original post. Is this likely to be an issue?Also, is there a thumb rule to decide on the no.of splits for a table.
    Rule is use executable of the kernel version supported by your system version. I am not well versed with 7.01 and 7.2 support ... to give you an example i should not use 700 R3ta on 640 system , although it works.
    >1.) After completion of tablesplitting preparation, there were .WHR files that were generated for each of the tables in DATA directory of export location. However, how many .WHR files should be created and on what basis are they created?
    If you ask for 10 split .... you will get 10 splits or in some case 11 also, the reason might be the field it is using to split the table (the where clause). But not 100% sure about it.
    > 2) I will take an example of a table PRCD_CLUST(cluster table) in our environment, which we had split. We had 29 *.WHR files that were created for this particular table. Also, there was only one R3load which was running for this 29th split, and was generating packages one by one.
    Not sure why you got 29 split when you asked for 36, one reason might be the field (key) used for split didn't have more than 28 unique records. I dont know how is PRCD_CLUST  split , you need to check the hints file for "key". One example can be suppose my table is split using company code, i have 10 company codes so even if i ask for 20 splits i will get only 10 splits (WHR's).
    Yes the 29th file will always have less records, if you open the 29th WHR you will see that it has the "greater than clause". The 1st and the last WHR file has the "less than" and "greater than" clause , kind of a safety which allows you to prepare for the split even before you have downtime has started. This 2 WHR's ensures  that no record gets missed, though you might have prepared your WHR files week before the actual migration.
    > 3) Also,Our question here is that is there any thumb rule for deciding on the number of splits for a table.Also, during the export, are there any things that need to be specified, while giving the inputs when we use table splitting,in the screen?
    Not aware any thumb rule. First iteration you might choose something like 10 for 50 GB , 20 for 100 GB. If any of the tables overshoots the window. They you can give a try by  increase or decrease the number of splits for the table. For me couple of times the total export/import  time have improved by reducing the splits of some tables (i suppose i was oversplitting those tables).

  • Unicode Export - R3szchk fails

    Hi all,
    We are trying to convert our newly upgraded ERP 2005(SP10) system to
    unicode. It is running on Windows 2003 Server 64bit, MSSQL 2005. We have performed the required operations in the unicode conversion guide, and started the export using SAPInst according to the "System Copy for SAP Systems Based on NW2004s SR2 ABAP.pdf" guide. We have included the latest version of R3load.exe, R3szchk.exe and dbmssslib.exe (lib_dbsl_87-20001375.SAR -note 860635) from the Service Market Place into the kernel directory of ERP2005.
    The SAPInst used is from the Installation Master DVD (Material #51032260)/IM_WINDOWS_X86_64/sapinst.exe.
    In the Database Instance Export phase, the export fails after about 3
    hours while R3szchk is running. I have retried this step 4 times using the "Retry" option on the SAPInst dialog screen.
    The sapinst.log file contains this error message:
    ERROR 2007-01-30 17:19:19

    In sapint_dev.log I get this error:
    F:\T01_Export\ABAP\DATA\STXH.STR' exits with error code 1. For details see log file(s) R3szchkExport.log.
    In R3szchkExport.log I have this:

    error message returned by DbSl:"
    I get no error message text from DbSl, even after I updated the dbmssslib as instructed in note 860635.
    So this is where I am stuck.. Can anyone help me with this issue?
    Urgent help is needed...
    Best Regards,
    Thomas

    Hi all.
    I managed to get passed this issue. I believe the reason is that I only restarted the "Database Instance Export" step after having updated the various .exe files.
    Now I restarted the entire thing, including the "Export preparation" step.

  • R3load cannot export more than 100 mount points for Oracle?

    We have a DB with more than 390 sapdata###  mount points  (HPUX-PARISC). They are truly mount points, NOT directories under some other mount points.
    After export using R3load (i.e NO DB-specific ), the keydb.xml generated for import has only from sapdata1 to sapdata100.
    Is there any limit here for R3load?
    Thanks!

    R3load doesn't copy the filesystem structure but unloads the content of the database after having checked the size of it and then distributes it across the files.
    Why do you have so many different mountpoints? Is there a technical reason behind? Just curious...

  • Brconnect login fails running unicode export converstion as user root

    Hello,
    We are performing a unicode conversion of ECC 6.0.  We are running sapinst as root and it errored out while trying to run brconnect to update the DB statistics.  We resolved this by unchecking the flag to update statistics in sapinst and manually ran the brconnect command as <sid>adm and it worked fine.  We started sapinst again and the system copy database export ran successfully and then at the last step of delete DB statistics it errored again with the following.

    Hi,
    At this time i am unable to give you any solution for your problem. But as your export is done , you can skip this step and move forward. You should be good to do the import.

  • Unicode Export Preference for RTF

    Hi,
    I am exporting text in rtf format via javascript. How to set the rtf export preference to unicode?
    For eg in text we do
    with(app.textExportPreferences){
        //Options for characterSet: TextExportCharacterSet
        characterSet = TextExportCharacterSet.UTF16;
    What is the equivalent for rtf?
    Regards

    Good news! There is no such option for RTF because you do not need it!
    I was thinking, "If one can't change it then what does happen to non-ASCII characters? Maybe I could do a little testing?" And hey! it worked!

  • R3load unsorted export questions

    Hi,
    To speed up a heterogenous systemcopy & UC conversion (OS change, database oracle) I am looking into unsorted unloading / loading. I have read note 954268. I still have some questions on this though.
    Are there any drawbacks on performing unsorted unloads? Or is it advised to always perform unsorted unloads (except for cluster tables)? If I perform an unsorted unload, will the load take longer if I perform it sorted?  Is it possible to perform unsorted loads (and does this make sense)?
    What are the experiences with this?
    Thanks,
    Regards,
    Bart

    Hi,
    In general 80% of the benefit comes from cleaning up fragmentation and giving
    you better read ratio because of better cache quality.
    There are just rare cases, where it helps to do a sort for the primary key
    (which R3load is doing). The most obvious benefit for the unsorted export is,
    that you save PSAPTEMP resources on the SOURCE metall.
    So less need to buy new disks for the old box !
    If you really desire a sorted table, do a reorg right after the migration
    on the new metall. Will be more speedy and you'll have resources there anyway.
    (And let me know which table this might be, I had none yet)
    Best regards

  • Unicode Export: Downtime Optimization

    Hi all,
    I need to reduce the overall downtime of the db export process and I need to put the biggest db tables into separate packages.
    How can I do this?
    I have already modified the following files into <export_dir>/ABAP/DATA and  <export_dir>/DB/ORA before to launch sapinst:
    ddloadd.tab
    *.STR
    *.EXT
    but unfortunately sapinst overwrites them with standard table distribution in the beginning of the export process.
    I need also to define groups of packages, this is my "order_by.txt" file modified:
    #PACKAGES NAME
    SAPAPPL1
    SAPSPROT
    SAPDODS
    SAPUSER5
    SAPSDOCU
    SAPSSRC
    package group 1
    [ SEQUENTIAL GROUP ]
    jobNum = 4
    #PACKAGES NAME
    SAPAPPL2
    SAPSSEXC
    SAP0000
    SAPUSER1
    SAPDFACT
    SAPDDIM
    package group 2
    [ SEQUENTIAL GROUP ]
    jobNum = 4
    #PACKAGES NAME
    SAPAPPL0
    SAPCLUST
    SAPSPROT
    SAPSLOAD
    SAPSLEXC
    SAPUSER
    SAPSDIC
    SAPPOOL
    package group 3
    [ SEQUENTIAL GROUP ]
    jobNum = 4
    It's correct?
    Oracle DB versione:10.2.0.4
    SAP kernel version: 7.01
    Thanks in advance for your help.
    Regards,
    Massimiilano

    Hi,
    Once you start sapinst ,let sapinst create the files as it does. Once sapinst stops and asks you to configure migmon and start it manually, delete all the files under <export_dir>/ABAP/DATA and <export_dir>/DB/ORA. Then carry on with the manual preparation wherein you generate STR files ,EXT files, split packages, generate WHR files and place them properly into the required directories.
    The file order_by.txt should be like this
    [Package-Group-1]
    jobNum=1
    SAPAPPL1
    SAPAPPL2
    [DYNPSOURCE]
    jobNum=3
    DYNPSOURCE-1
    DYNPSOURCE-2
    DYNPSOURCE-3
    DYNPSOURCE-4
    The names within brackets  can be anything of your choice. The names in blue will be in square brackets.

  • Has anyone used R3load LOAD "ANY_ORDER" option?

    We are testing a migration with a big (32-core) box and this option is listed in Note 1058437 as an option for R3load.
    In the note, it asks for us to consult the DB2 documentation, which describes this option:
    "Specifies that the load utility can process the input data in any order, resulting in better performance on symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) systems."
    "By default, the load utility preserves record order of source data. When load is operating under an SMP environment, synchronization between parallel processing is required to ensure that order is preserved.
    In an SMP environment, specifying the anyorder file type modifier instructs the load utility to not preserve the order, which improves efficiency by avoiding the synchronization necessary to preserve that order. However, if the data to be loaded is presorted, anyorder might corrupt the presorted order, and the benefits of presorting are lost for subsequent queries."
    http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/data/library/techarticle/dm-0405melnyk/index.html
    http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/db2luw/v9r7/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.db2.luw.admin.dm.doc/doc/c0004605.html
    Since most performance optimizations for R3load recommend exporting the data unsorted anyway, and it has to re-sort on import, this seems like it may be a good option to try out.
    I was just wondering if anyone had tried this as I had not seen it any of the optimization studies for DB2/R3load.

    Hi Frank,
    Thanks for the feedback,
    We have another import iteration early next week, and then I may freeze any import changes after that run, and just change the R3load parameters to "ANY_ORDER" to see what effect that may have on import times (time permitting).
    If I am able to put the parameter in, I will post my results here. We have a variety of packages - separate table packages, and split tables (sequential load on split tables with LOAD_FORCED), so hopefully it will be interesting to see if the parameter behaves differently depending on what type of package it is importing.
    I hope to post results here next week.

  • Troubles Exporting Song List

    Here's my situation, I want to export my song list and I have songs with Chinese words in them. I could do it before, it appeared as if iTunes saved the .txt files in Unicode, but now I can't get it to work. All that shows up are question marks where the chinese words are, which means iTunes has reverted to saving in ANSI. Does anyone know how to fix this or have a work around so I can see the song list with the chinese words? Thank you very much to anyone who helps out!

    I upgraded iTunes from 6.0.2.23 to 6.0.4.2 and the Unicode option disappeared. I am not sure if that is the cause though. I have successively tried going back to 6.0.2.23, 6.0.1.3, 6.0.0.18, and 5.0.1.x, in that order, without success. I can still view old Unicode exported song list in Notepad, so the XP OS seems ok, I just can't make new Unicode export list. Do Apple engineers read these forums? Can a kind engineer please help?
