R9 280x Artfacting/Flickering/Blinking

Hi there, so, im having a big problem wth my R9 280x, the screen is just flickering and its not just when im playing, watching videos, and doing nothing (its happening right now so i am taping this topic with one hand, the other one is pushing the gpu upward, i'm gonna explain why) but of course, when i'm playing the problem is bigger, its just like that, i open the game, some seconds and it start to flickering and blinking, if i do not close the game it just freeze with a gray screen with some lines and i have to reboot, follow the pictures:
AND SOMETIMES AFTER REBOOTING THE PC, IT STARTS LIKE THIS AND I HAVE TO REBOOT AGAIN
So, i've already tried many things, updated vbios, cleanned the GPU, downgraded memory and core clock...
BUT THE ONLY THING THAT WORKED WAS
Pushing the GPU upward, yes just like this:
The illustration is terrible, i just picked a card on google, so i've made a temporally fix just putting a support to hold the gpu, but this fix generate another problem.
Pushing the GPU upward make the gpu overheat, so when i play, my GPU temperature go from 62Cº to 96Cº (62Cº is the temperature when i play without the support), then i loose something like 30 fps, so i've abbadonned this fix, so please, someone can help me with this, its impossible to use the PC even to watch a video, thanks.

Might be also it makes bad connection between GPU and heatsink.
Ask local MSI office > >>How to contact MSI.<< or shop you got the card from if you can reapply thermal paste, and then make sure it makes appropriate connection between GPU-heatsink. Also you could use a string to tie the card to top of the case so it doesn't bennd so much.

• Searh help in ABAP webdynpro with Adobe form is flickering/blinking

All,
I have an WDA that has an interactive Adobe form for input. I'm calling the SAP standard search helps when clicked for value helps from the Adobe interactive form that opens up the search helps pop-ups in the web-dynpro style. But strangely, the portion of the search help pop-up window that is just over the Adobe interactive form is always flickering/blinking whenever something is typed or moved on the search help pop-up window. This seems to be a standard bug/issue with SAP. Has anyone encountered the same issue and have found a solution to that?

I am giving everyone I find MY fix. Let me know if this post I put on another thread does it.
"I know this has been longer than 60 days. However I just wanted to post my fix for others in case its searched for. This has been so frustrating to figure out. My fix has been a variety of things such as clean installs of the drivers MANY MANY times. The final time I reinstalled the ATI's CCC driver 14.7 beta. I noticed that I unknowingly (by ignorance not action) installed MSI's version of CCC from there website as well. After (not) installing MSI's version on top it seemed to help but the clock speeds still fluctuated from 300MHZ- to the max 1020MHz continuously. After looking in the CCC I saw an option that caught my eye. "Alternate DVI Operational Mode" is checked by default on both screens options. So I unchecked it...applied changes.... VIOLA no more flicker and clock speeds have been stable for the past 5 hours. I however have not restarted my computer for fear it will return and I throw the computer out the window. This is atleast worth an attempt if you have the dreaded "Flicker" of the R9 280X.
For information my setup is as follows:
M/B- MSI A88X-G45 Gaming
processor: AMD A10-7850K (AMD A series black edition APU) w/ r7 200 series
2 (cheap @ around 120$ each) Monitors- Acer (G246HL) and LG (22M45) 60Hz running at 1920x 1080
PSU: (Cheap 35$) 600W
HDD: 1TB (Master) and 2TB (slave) seagate SATA drives
VIDEO: MSI R9 280x 3gb Video card
Issue noticed: Flicker when running either one or two (Extended screen) monitors usually while browsing, schoolwork, or watching netflix (2D actions???) and less but still during StarCraft 2 game play. tried just about every forums suggestions except the one about changing a register key profile.
Outcome of above suggestions: Relief....so far (6 hours later)"
"Alternate DVI Operational Mode"
where I can find that option ?

• Screen flickering/blinking Xperia Z1

Sometimes my display flickers for a few seconds, doesnt mater where I am on screen, I noticed it mainly in call logs/calling, chrome, home screen and messages. It's nothing major and it's kinda weird flicker, like anti aliasing lines or something like that. And it happens mainly in dimmed light conditions. On the whole screen, not any specific part/corner.
After few seconds it goes away and it doesn't happen all the time, nor constantly.
Did anybody noticed it on their phone? Could it be software or hardware related? I'm on 4.4.4 kitkat and the phone is week old. It was already in water for tests but everything was properly sealed, doesn't have any fall damage etc., I take good care of stuff.
Any help is appreciated.

@kosho - If you have tried all of the sugestions on the previous page and still have the same issue then I would advise contacting your local Xperia Care team to have an assessment arranged.

• MSI R9 280X 3G: Flickering in 2D

I've a newly RMA-ed card from my distro that's displaying flickering as shown in this video (video does not belong to me).
According to the comments in the video, the problem was solved with a new vBIOS. Can MSI look into this?

Hi,
Can you please follow this >>Posting Guide<< and list whole PC spec.
Also tell S/N of the card, if vBIOS might be available that possibly fixes this.

• Firefox browser window flickering/ blinking

hi, using firefox 27.0.1 on Win 7 and today the browser started to flicker (every 4-5 seconds) during use, as if i had clicked out of the window then back in really quickly.
its happening on all websites and makes it difficult to use drop down menus and such like and I've tried some of the other troubleshooting solutions like restarting, safe mode, disabling hardware acceleration and disabling add-ons etc but had no improvement
any help would be greatful!
thanks

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

To see if there is a later version please add the current vbios. Save it to file, upload to some file hoster and add link here.

• Any help, text flickers in apps but not icons or pictures...

I have a Ti 1 Ghz and I am starting to have problems with my display. I am not sure what the problem is as it is very strange. When I am viewing text in apps like Word, Safari, Firefox, Textedit, (basically any app), some of the text (sometimes a letter sometimes a word or sentence) gets little black dots flickering/blinking. What's weird is they move with the word instead of staying in one spot (like a dead pixel). So when I scroll the text up or down, left or right the little blinking black dot moves with the text. It also happens when I open certain pictures (moves around with the picture) but not other pictures and so far the text under icons haven't been affected.
At first I thought maybe it is because of Tiger (I just did an upgrade - fresh install about a month ago) so I booted into OS 9 (which is on a second partition) and the same problem occurred.
So I thought dead pixels and I ran the hardware test cd. No little dead pixels showed while testing the video.
So I tried calibrating the display, that had no effect and it is now back at default.
Then I tried all the different settings for smoothing/anti alaising the fonts I could. I regularly boot up in both Japanese and English (main) settings.
So maybe drivers, so I went to the ATI website and downloaded and installed the most recent updates available.
I even thought, hey, maybe my eyes are bad. So I asked my wife whose vision is 20/20 and she agreed it wasn't just my eys.
Nothing has helped.
Has anyone had a problem like this? Does any one know what is wrong? Is it my display itself or maybe the video card?
Just a little info, I bought this PB brand new from the store and within a month the screen went pink when ever the PB was moved. So I had the displayed replaced and it hasn't had any problems since then (September 2003) until now.
Any advice would be great.
Thanks,
Elfbp

Hi, elfbp. There is no economical way to replace the screen — and no easy way, either. It's the Powerbook's most expensive part to buy, new or used, and the hardest one to remove and install successfully. Besides, you haven't determined yet that the display is what needs to be replaced, or even that anything needs to be replaced. And the symptom you report is so very odd — anomalous pixels that follow a word or words in your text, indicating that they aren't related to particular pixels or regions in the display — that I have no idea how to go about trying to isolate the cause.
For what it's worth, the service manual for your Tibook model contains the following video troubleshooting section. It's not directed at your particular problem, but your particular problem isn't mentioned at all, and this may suggest some useful procedures or clues:
"No display, or dim display, but computer appears to operate correctly:
1. Remove any connected peripherals.
2. Make sure F1 key is not stuck down.
3. Press the F2 key (with the fn key pressed and not pressed) to increase the screen brightness settings.
4. Reboot the computer—hold down the Control and Command keys and press the Power button to restart the computer. Or, press and hold the Power button for 5 to 10 seconds to shut down the computer, then press the Power button to restart.
5. Make sure using the PowerBook (1GHz/867MHz) power adapter (66-1798)
6. Verify inverter flex cable and LVDS cable connections are seated properly and that the cables are not damaged (refer to inverter board and display module replacement instructions).
7. Replace inverter board.
8. Replace display assembly.
9. Replace logic board."
Note in particular that checking the display cable connections and replacing the inverter board are both suggested before replacing the display itself. And I would be inclined also to replace the logic board before the display, since it's less expensive and much easier to install. By the time you've replaced an inverter and a logic board, you'll be well on your way to spending what the Powerbook is worth in good condition on the current market, and replacing the display may put you over that value. This is not to say you shouldn't do it, but if you could get a comparable used Powerbook in good working order for less than you might spend fixing yours, that's at least an option worth considering.
I have no idea what professional repair options are available to you in Japan, but if I were you, I'd look into them. Don't use any repair service that isn't Apple-authorized.
If you want to plunge inside the Tibook yourself, complete take-apart instructions are here.

my ipod classic's screen when connected to a computer is flickering(blinking) and when the time i have to restore it- it won't what actions will i do with it? Thanks for your answers

If you successfully restored (went through all steps without error) to factory settings/new iPod via iTunes (Not via Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content and Setting) and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem. Likely that the cracks propagated to cause your current problem.

• Yet another MacBook Pro with display issues (NVdia chip)

Exactly one year and 1 week after purchase, my video controller started freaking out. So just 1 week out of warranty, my display started flickering, blinking, showing garbled clumps of pixels and got progressively worse over the last week until, now, it locks up and/or reboots after about 15 minutes of uptime.
I have:
- installed all updates, including firmware
- reset PRAM
- re-seated RAM
- replaced RAM
- used SMC FanControl to try and keep the GPU cool
- parked the MacBook in front of the fan/air conditioner in an attempt to keep the GPU cool
- ran the Hardware Test, which returned a faulty video controller
None of the above have had any positive effect whatsover.
I've dug through these forums and hunted around the rest of the net for more info. Every symptom points to the NVidia GeForce issue. It seemed to be heat related. Maybe it was at first (even though max temps were never over 180 F), but after just one more day it doesn't seem to matter anymore. The machine is just FUBAR.
Tomorrow, I'm taking it in to the Apple store for service. Everything I've read here tells me it'll be at $1,000 logic board replacement since I'm a week out of warranty. Needless to say, if I come home tomorrow with a $1,000 receipt AND no laptop I'm going to be pretty upset.
What really concerns me is that, if I have to get the logic board replaced, they'll just put in yet another faulty board with another NVdia chip that will do the same thing all over again. There has to be another option, short of just getting a new iMac or tower with an ATI card instead. What else can I do?

http://noizesurge.com/downloads/gpu2.jpg - incidentally my computer had completely frozen at this point.
I'm pretty sure from observing these types of glitches that this is a hardware fault. I shall ring Apple on Monday and hopefully they can pick it up and sort it all out! Does anyone know roughly how long a turnaround is in the UK?
Yes, your video controller is toast. That's exactly how mine looked.
Just to make certain, run the Hardware Test:
- Put in DVD 1 that came with your MacBook Pro.
- Shut down
- Restart, holding the D key
- You'll be put into test mode, run the default test (no need to run the robust test at this stage)
I'm betting it will return a message that looks like: "4VDC/1/40000003: videocontroller"
If so, your logic board will have to be replaced.
The Apple Store I went to (Michigan Ave, Chicago) told me it would take 5-7 days. I'm not sure what UK times would be like, but I'd expect a little longer.
bikemonkey wrote:
Incidentally, people are saying that they've have logic boards and what not replaced only for the problem to reoccur. Does this mean nVidia haven't properly fixed the issue?
Correct. Nvidia hasn't done a thing about this (that I'm aware of), and Apple seems to be putting the same logic boards with the faulty Nvidia chips back in.
Until we see a new/refreshed line of MacBook Pro's, I think we're stuck.
