RAC to RAC physical standby DB creation

Oracle version : 11.2.0.2
Platform : Solaris
I have created Physical Standby DBs of standalone DBs using RMAN's DUPLICATE command. Now , I need to create a Physical Standby
for a 2-node RAC primary DB. The standby will also be in a 2-node RAC.
In the standby site, Grid is succesfully installed , ASM instances are up and Diskgroup for the standby DB is ready. What are the extra changes that I need to make for RAC to RAC standby DB creation.
Currently, this is what I am planning to do
After
1. Establishing connectivity from standby to primary
and
2. Moving backup to standby
and
3. Starting the standby instance (not MOUNTing it)
From Node1 of standby server, I will run
primdb -- The tns entry to connect to Primary DB
$RMAN target sys/mypass@primdb auxiliary /
RMAN> duplicate target database for standby dorecover;

Addition to that,
As you are in 11g, You can perform duplicate from active database without backup. here you no need to copy those backups to standby server.

In the last one chapter 3 sends you to F appendix and F appendix says do nothing before having than all in chapter 3 :
In F.1.1 page F-2 it is said :

Any way I'm looking for a procedure or clear article to create it.

i want to create two standby (physical) and one primary dataguard.
so please tell me what is sequence for db_file_name_convert and db_file_name_convert.
i mean how i will give database name or path in this parameter.

Primary database is RAC and Physical standby is single instance

Hello All,
I am using Oracle RAC 11.2.0.3 as primary database, we are going to start using Oracle data guard.
So I am designing my infrastructure and planing to use Oracle 11.2.0.3 Single instance as my physical stand by database.
My question is it feasible to have my standby database as single instance while the primary is RAC?
is it feasible to build my Oracle single instance standby database from the RMAN backup of the RAC primary database?
Is there any restrictions (or any points to be taken into consideration) since my primary database is RAC while the physical standby is Oracle single instance?

Creating physical standby using rman fails with ORA-19558: error de-allocat

We are creating physical stadnby database from 2 node RAC ( 2 node RAC to standalone physical standby).
While in the rman duplicate process we are getting below error, we were not able to sorted out..
No third party storage has been used ....
DB version : 11gR2 and the OS is RHEL5

The problem is well decribed in your alert log.....you are using Oracle Managed File names which means you will not be able to duplicate the database as RMAN won't be able to automatically generate new names for the files using the DB_FILE_NAME_CONVERT and LOG_FILE_NAME_CONVERT initialization parameters.
Youll have to use the SET NEWNAME command to specify the names of the database files. Done this a few times , and I don't recommend using OMF specifically beacuse of this hassle.
WARNING: OMF is enabled on this database. Creating a physical standby controlfile, when OMF is enabled on the primary database, requires manual RMAN intervention to resolve OMF
datafile pathnames.
NOTE: Please refer to the RMAN documentation for procedures describing how to manually resolve OMF datafile pathnames.

All logs received but not applied | Physical Standby Database

Need your help....
We have physical standby database setup as below
Primary : 2 node RAC
Stdby : Standalone physical standby database.
When I verify the stdby database status, I could see all the logs are received from primary but still not applied many.. Could any one please help me what is the issue and how to resolve it ...?

Standby redolog creation

Hi,
At the time of physical standby DB creation Oracle doc says that...
3.1.3 Configure a Standby Redo Log
Example 3-1 Adding a Standby Redo Log File Group to a Specific Thread
The following statement adds a new standby redo log file group to a standby database and assigns it to THREAD 5:
SQL> ALTER DATABASE ADD STANDBY LOGFILE THREAD 5
2> ('/oracle/dbs/log1c.rdo','/oracle/dbs/log2c.rdo') SIZE 500M;
Is this logfiles created in the primary DB and the directory structure is in primary DB?
If yes then, how under section 5.1 Introduction to Redo Transport Services figure 5-1shows standby redolog files are showing in standby DB?
So shall I create standby redolog in both DBs? or only in primary DB?
I need your input to clear this confusion please.

You SHOULD create your standby redo log files on both your current primary AND your current standby.
You never know, one day the current primary might be the current standby and the current standby your now current primary!

1. Used source oracle_home on standby server
2. Created new asm instance and use same naming
3. I took RMAN full backup on source and move it to target
4. I edit initora file remove RAC setting and restore db(also edited listener file)

The problem here is probably with your standby init.ora file.
When you create a standby database, the db_name parameter must NOT change. It has to match the primary database. So in your case, db_name ='PROD' and your db_unique_name='DPROD'...

Physical standby database in RAC system

Hi EXperts,
We have a 4 nodes 11.2 cluster system. i will set a data guard as a disaster recovery mothods.
As a physical standby database set, does we need to configure same nodes (4 nodes) in other city as primary database cluster system?
Can we set physical standby database is in 2 nodes cluster system and primary database is in 4 nodes cluster system?

You can setup 2 node RAC as physical standby and also with different memory parameters. But, the only issue is when DB failover from primary to standby, the applications connect to 2 node RAC in place of 4 node RAC and may be overloaded.

Related to recovery in Physical standby database in RAC

In Physical Standby database all instance involved in recovery processes or any one instance will be their in in recovery mode
If is like this another instance will be for high availabily can any one in forum explain me it will be help full

With your Primary database being RAC, the Physical Standby does not have to be RAC, although, obviously it would be preferred to have scalability as required at a DR site.
Whether your Standby is RAC or non-RAC, the automatic Recovery that is done at the Standby is done by one instance only. It would be applying the ArchiveLogs from all the threads (i.e. instances) of the Primary.
Database Recovery is always done by a single instance.

Create a physical standby for Rac on Windows and raw devices

Hi buddies:
I need to create a Physical standby database for a 2 node RAC cluster on Windows, that is using RAW devices.
Can someone of you suggest me a note to follow in order to achive this, i can not find to much information about how to do this.
I guess that the best option would be to use RMAN to do this, but as i said before i havent found too much information.
I would really appreciate your help.

In this case the standby should be created as a single instance on regular files.
Do i have to specify something different in the duplicate rman command to specify that the standby database will be a single instance?

Cascading physical standby from another physical standby for primary rac

my supplier told me that is possible mount a cascade physical standby from a physical standby for my rac installation.
but according the note "409013.1" seems not:
"Cascading a logical or physical standby database from a physical standby database is supported as long as the primary database is not a RAC database and is not part of a Data Guard Broker configuration - the support status of this configuration is unchanged from previous documentation."
before was possible? do you know why not now?
has anyone mounted? can I allow my provider to mount?

Rolling Upgrade of Oracle 10gR2 RAC with Physical Standby (DG)

Hi DBAs,
I want to do a rolling upgrade of Oracle 10.2.0.3 (2 node RAC+ASM) with Physical Standy Dataguard to Oracle 10.2.0.4 also applying CPU (April2009).
Please suggest the best way to perform this upgrade and patching with no downtime.

Unfortunately rolling upgrade is only possible with a logical standby in place:

That doesn't help you at this time, but 11g has a way to do it with a physical standby. Even here you need an intermediate logical standby:

How many nodes need to be on the mount state in the RAC physical standby ? for example if we have RAC of 4 nodes in the physical standby . do I startup all of them in mount state or only one and what about the other they should be open or we shut them down ?

If your primary database is a rac all the instances will send the redo information but even if the standby database is also a rac only one will receive/apply the redo information.

The instances will be mounted, if the working instance fails another one will be able to do the job.
