Radio button brings up text area?

I am working on a form where I have a question that is yes or no which will be radio buttons. If yes is selected, I would like a text field to pop up for another question, is this achievable?

When you did not supply a link to your site, I assumed that you knew what you were doing and only wanted an example of how Spry could be used to hide and un-hide certain elements.
By supplying a link to your site, you not only provide us with information that is relevant to the question, it will also give us the opportunity to supply you with a tailor made solution.
Having a look at the following
<input type="radio" name="Does The Child Attend Sunday School Anywhere?" value="Yes" id="Does The Child Attend Sunday School Anywhere?_0" />
This is not good, in fact I would go as far as to say it is horrible markup. I have taken the liberty to change that in my following tailor made example.
<!DOCTYPE HTML>
<html>
  <head>
    <meta charset="utf-8">
    <title>Untitled Document</title>
        <style>
            .hidden {display: none;} /* The style rule can be placed in an external style sheet */
    </style>
  </head>
  <body>
    <p>
      <label>Does The Child Attend Sunday School Anywhere?</label><br/>
      <label id="yes" for="yes_"><input type="radio" name="Sunday_School" id="Sunday_School" value="Yes" checked />Yes</label>
      <br />
      <label id="no"><input type="radio" name="Sunday_School" id="Sunday_School" value="No" />No</label>
    </p>
    <p id="myTextarea">
      <label for="If so, where?">If so, where?</label>
      <br />
      <input type="text" name="If so, where?" id="If so, where?" />
    </p>
    <!-- Using a link to Adobe; but this could be linked to a local file -->
        <script src="http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/includes_minified/SpryDOMUtils.js"></script>
    <script>
            Spry.$$("label#yes input").addEventListener("click", myYesClick, false);
            Spry.$$("label#no input").addEventListener("click", myNoClick, false);
            function myYesClick() {
                Spry.$$("p#myTextarea").removeClassName("hidden");
            function myNoClick() {
                Spry.$$("p#myTextarea").addClassName("hidden");
    </script>
  </body>

  • How do you grey out a radio button if a text field is blank in Adobe Acrobat XI Pro?

    How do you grey out a radio button if a text field is blank in Adobe Acrobat XI Pro?
    So this what I'm trying to do:
    (     )   |TEXT FIELD|
    (     )   |TEXT FIELD|
    (     )   |                  |
    (     )   |TEXT FIELD|
    I have a radio button: (     )
    and a text field: |TEXT FIELD|
    The third text field is blank, and I would like for the radio button next to it greyed out (user can't click on it) since the text field is blank. Is this possible to achieve? I'm assuming I'll have to use javascript, but what would the code be and would it be entered in the javascript editor for the text field or the radio button?
    Thanks in advance guys

    Hey, thanks, but it didn't work
    I have the text fields as read only. Could that be why it's not working? Should I make the fields not read only?
    Thanks,

  • Linking a radio button to a text field in a pdf form

    Forgive my ignorance but does anyone know how to link a radio button to a text field in an Acobat pdf form?
    I have a series of 4 radio buttons. If you click on one of them I would like to activate a text field which you then have to fill in. In addition it would be good to have it so that if you don't click on the radio button you're not able to fill in the associated text box.
    I am a designer not a programmer so I don't know much about javascript. Can anyone help?
    Many thanks

    You might want to look at Hiding and Showing Form Fields by Thom Parker. You might also want to clear the text field when the radio button changes.

  • Run time change # of radio button and boolean text

    does Labview 8 support run time programmically change number of radio button and boolean text for each radio button?
    Thanks,
    DG

    You can also customize a slide control to look like radio buttons. You can control the text labels and the number of element through a property (by changing the scale properties). If you really want it to look like radio buttons, you can try ripping the images from the dialog radio button. Also, to save some time, you can get the OpenG buttons package, which includes a slide customized to look like radio buttons. The main problem with this is that changing the number of items does not change the size of the control and that makes the dot filling the radio buttons look compressed.
    Another option is to create an array of radio buttons, but then you will have to handle the logic yourself.
    Try to take over the world!

  • Connecting selection of radio button to a text or numeric field

    Hi. I am using LiveCycle Designer 8.0 and I am trying to define object properties that will allow the selection of a radio button to populate in a numeric data field at the bottom of the page. I was able to write the script to have that happen with drop-down lists, but I can't figure out how to write the script for the radio button. I also don't know if the script is supposed to apply to the radio button itself or the numeric field where I want the result to show-up. Can you please help me with some sort of an example script? Thanks.

    Hi Jen,
    I would recommend that you amend your workspace in Designer. You can show/hide palettes from the Window menu.
    Here are some pointers (which are optional):
    This is the hierarchy palette and is very handy when working with forms. You can select objects quickly and drag objects around.
    This is the Object palette, which makes it easy to drag objects onto the page.
    The main space with tabs for Design View, Master Pages, XML Source (you should not need this) and Preview.
    You can select objects in EITHER the page or the hierarchy view and then change properties in other palettes.
    The Script Editor is very important when you start to add functionality to your form. It is visible on your screen shot, but it is limited to one line in height. So I would recommend that you drag this down so that you can see a few lines of script. The Show dropdown in the Editor allows you to look at the script in various events. In the example I posted, there is script in the click event.
    Object palette (and Font & Paragraph palettes). These will allow you to make changes to various properties, depending on the object that is selected.
    You will see from the screenshot that you can position and stack the palettes to suite your screen and workflow.
    Now, in relation to your screenshot:
    You have selected a single radio button in your group. You need to select the whole exclusion group, this is easy in the hierarchy palette.
    In the Object > Binding palette you have ticked the Specify Item Values (good), but you need to edit the values to match the Display Items. For example for item "$85", the specified value should be "85".
    For starters, I would recommend that you open a few of the palettes and then have a look at my example and the screenshots. Hopefully that will clear it up for you.

  • Using radio button instead of text field

    Hi. I need to convert a text field for radio button. The conversion is as follows: the user will choose one of three options on the radio button (gif, png and jpeg). If the user chooses the image format such as jpeg, for example, how should I put in value? Put image/jpeg and does not work. This text field belongs to a form that was generated automatically by a WebService Data Control. Thanks

    remove the text field.
    drag and drop that attribute from data control, choose selectOneRadio
    in the wizard window, select fixed list and select this particular attribute and then type gif, png and jpeg one by one.
    in the pagedef it would be something like below:
        <list IterBinding="myIterator0" id="image" DTSupportsMRU="false"
              StaticList="true">
          <AttrNames>
            <Item Value="image"/>
          </AttrNames>
          <ValueList>
            <Item Value="gif"/>
            <Item Value="png"/>
            <Item Value="jpeg"/>
          </ValueList>
        </list>whatever you select that values goes to db.

  • Radio button and  show text

    hello
    i am assigned to create a page (index and action page) where
    the index page has a group of radio buttons ( 4 of them) . if one
    of the four the radio button is selected then a text (paragraph of
    about 30 lines) is shown in the action page after a submitt button
    or next button . can this be done????
    if it can be done how and what is the code for it
    thanks

    display paragraph comes from???
    i dont know yet. would it be better if
    can i just store it on same page where the radio button is
    declared?? then send it to the action page myactionpage.cfm
    this is the example so if a radio button ( a combination of
    radio button it will display in a page)
    what will be displayed for every combination there will be a
    paragraph.
    for example if a radio button bob and camping then i will
    show in the action page (for ex) "BOB had an exciting camping trip"
    if bob and kickback is selected then the message on
    myactionpage.cfm will say in text" bob Kickback and stayed home"
    can this be done.
    if so how
    here is what my example:
    <html>
    <head>
    <title>My sample Page</title>
    </head>
    <body>
    <form name="myform" action="
    http://www.myactionpage.com/
    " method="POST">
    <div align="center"><br>
    <input type="radio" name="group1" value="bob">
    bob<br>
    <input type="radio" name="group1" value="ken" checked>
    ken<br>
    <input type="radio" name="group1" value="Carol"> Carol
    <hr>
    <input type="radio" name="group2" value="camping">
    camping<br>
    <input type="radio" name="group2" value=" riverrafting
    "> riverrafting<br>
    <input type="radio" name="group2" value="kickback"
    checked> kickback<br>
    </div>
    </form>
    </body>
    </html>
    <form name="myform" action=
    http://www.myactionpage.com
    method="POST">
    <div align="center">
    <br><input type="submit"
    value="combinationofradiobuttons!"><br>
    </div>

  • When the user of my form clicks a box/radio button, a predefined text will appear elsewhere in the form.  How do I do this?

    I am creating a form for a hospital.  I have a form with Yes/No checkboxes.  I want the results of these checkboxes to trigger the display of predefined texts in textboxes on the same document.  For example, if it says: "Neck Pain?  Y  N" and they click "Y", I want a message to be entered in an "Instructions" box on the form.  I've got the form made, I just need direction on the if/then for all the clicking.  i.e., "if they click YES on this, type out THIS in this other field..."etc.

    Use this as the mouse up script for the checkbox:
    if (event.target.value!="No") {  //If checkbox is ticked
    this.getField("Textbox1").value = "Instructions for Neck Pain Go Here";  //Replace Textbox1 with the name of your field
    else this.getField("Textbox1").value = "";   //Clear the text field if checkbox is not ticked

  • Flash 8 UI Component: Radio Button

    Hi:
    May someone kindly guide me how to bind a radio button to a
    text area? Perhaps without using action script.
    What's the trick of binding the Radio Button in Flash 8 as
    the attempt to bing ComboBox or some other UI components has no
    problem at all; but only the Radion Button.
    Thanks!

    Thanks for the response.
    After i posted I kept digging and found where the code is
    that sets the font for the Radio buttons in the quizzes when you do
    an export to flash. What I found out is listed below in case anyone
    else ever needs the information- hopefully it will save someone
    else some time.
    The ".as" file is --
    C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR NAME HERE\Local
    Settings\Application Data\Macromedia\Flash
    8\en\Configuration\Classes\AdobeCaptivate\quiz\CpMultipleChoice.as
    Strating at line 106 there is the following code
    p._font.name = "Arial";
    p._font.size = 12;
    p._name = "" + numAnswers;
    I was then able to make the font size larger to match the
    other text on the screen (i do have to say it's rather annoying
    that those attributes don't get exported from the captivate file,
    because i set the font properties before exporting - but i guess
    there is probably a reason for that)

  • Radio buttons - text format

    Hi everyone!
    I can't seem to get this to work! I want the text on the radio buttons to wrap correctly as they reach the end of the stage (right now they just keep going forever. Here is the code I am using:
    package {
        import flash.display.MovieClip;
        import flash.text.TextField;
        import flash.text.TextFormat;
        import flash.text.TextFieldAutoSize;
        import flash.events.Event;
        import fl.controls.RadioButton;
        import fl.controls.RadioButtonGroup;
        public class QuizQuestion extends MovieClip {
            private var question:String;
            private var questionField:TextField;
            private var choices:Array;
            private var theCorrectAnswer:int;
            private var theUserAnswer:int;
            //variables for positioning:
            private var questionX:int = 25;
            private var questionY:int = 150;
            private var answerX:int = 25;
            private var answerY:int = 200;
            private var spacing:int = 25;
            public function QuizQuestion(theQuestion:String, theAnswer:int, ...answers) {
                //store the supplied arguments in the private variables:
                question = theQuestion;
                theCorrectAnswer = theAnswer;
                choices = answers;
                //create and position the textfield (question):
                questionField = new TextField();
                questionField.width = 775;
                questionField.wordWrap = true;
                questionField.multiline = true;
                questionField.text = question;
                //trace (questionField.width);
                questionField.autoSize = TextFieldAutoSize.LEFT;
                questionField.x = questionX;
                questionField.y = questionY;
                addChild(questionField);
                //Text Format for radio buttons
                var txtFmt:TextFormat = new TextFormat();
                txtFmt.font = "Arial";
                txtFmt.blockIndent = 2;
                txtFmt.color = 0x000000;
                txtFmt.size = 11;
                txtFmt.leading = 4;
                //create and position the radio buttons (answers):
                var myGroup:RadioButtonGroup = new RadioButtonGroup("group1");
                myGroup.addEventListener(Event.CHANGE, changeHandler);
                for(var i:int = 0; i < choices.length; i++) {
                    var rb:RadioButton = new RadioButton();
                    rb.setStyle("textFormat", txtFmt);
                    rb.textField.autoSize = TextFieldAutoSize.LEFT;
                    rb.label = choices[i];
                    rb.group = myGroup;
                    rb.value = i + 1;
                    rb.x = answerX;
                    rb.y = questionY + questionField.height + 25 + (i * spacing);
                    addChild(rb);
            private function changeHandler(event:Event) {
                theUserAnswer = event.target.selectedData;
            public function get correctAnswer():int {
                return theCorrectAnswer;
            public function get userAnswer():int {
                return theUserAnswer;
    As you can see, I managed to get the text field style of the radio buttons to use "txtFmt" as the style:
    rb.setStyle("textFormat", txtFmt);
    The issue:
    If I add:
    rb.textField.width = 352;
    rb.textField.height = 60;
    rb.textField.multiline = rb.textField.wordWrap = true;
    inside the "for loop" that creates the radio button, it just makes my text go all crazy! It only extends the text about 30 pixels after the radio button and then starts wrapping it, making it all stack on top of each other. How can I make it create the radio button, show the text on the text field, wrap around once it reached the edge of the stage and the continue the next button.
    thank you in advanced,
    Rafa.

    Kglad,
    I added the trace command to the 1st frame of my FLA, and it shows the "test" message on the output window.

  • Livecycle Designer 7.0 - How do I link a text box in a form to a radio button or checkbox?

    Hello,
    I am using Livecycle Designer 7.0 to create a form. I have a scenario where I have several options on a question where they choose one radio button. The last option of the radio button has a text box accompanying it and I only want it to be able to be filled out/typed into if that particular radio button is chosen. Not to be able to be typed into if that particular radio button is not chosen as an answer to that question.
    How do I do that?
    Also how to I do the same for a text box to be entered into and typed into only if the accompanying checkbox is checked?
    Help?

    This forum is for the Adobe FormsCentral  (formscentral.adobe.com) which is a service that allows you to create,  collect and analyze data using an online web form. You should ask  Designer related form questions in the Designer forums: http://forums.adobe.com/community/livecycle/livecycle_es/livecycle_des igner_es
    I'll move your post to that forum so you don't need to retype it. They can help you out...

  • Using radio buttons to populate a text field

    Hi
    This is my first time creating Adobe Forms and my first time using JavaScript as well. One of the questions on my form asks about Ethnicity and I have about 15 choices for which I created radio buttons. I want the user's choice to populate a textfield, but am not sure how to write the code that will do this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    If you set the export value (aka Button Value, Radio Button Choice) of each radio button to the text you want to show up in the text box, the custom calculate script for the text box, which you should set to read-only, can be simply:
    (function () {
        // Get the value of the radio button group, as a string
        var s = getField("Ethnicity").valueAsString;
        // Set this field's value to the text associated with the selected radio button
        event.value = s === "Off" ? "" : s;
    If none of the radio buttons is selected, the text field will be blank. Change "Ethnicity" above to the actial name of the radio button group.

  • To load text area by clicking on a button

    Hello Experts,
    In my application, i want to add a text area to add comment.
    I will provide one button to add comment. When I click on it, it should load a text area with submit button.
    After typing some text in text area and click submit, it needs to insert into the database.
    How to do it. Please help me.

    Hi,
    just add a hidden variable called P1_SHOW_COMMENT and create for your submit button and your text area a condition which checks if variable is set to "yes".
    Default value is "no" or empty. On button click set item P1_SHOW_COMMENT by pl/sql process to "yes".
    Best regards,

  • Adobe Captivate - Multiple Choice Quiz Question - Radio Button and Text Alignment

    I have created a quiz with multiple choice questions.
    No matter what I do I cannot align the radio button and the text for the choices (see below).
    I would like to align the center of the radio button with the center of the letter A) and B).
    I have tried every option that I can think of in the Properties options.
    Please let me know if anyone has a solution for this.
    Thank you

    Thanks for the reply.
    Previously I tried several different combinations of fonts and font sizes, but didn't see any change.
    Does anyone else know of anything else that could effect this situation?

  • Radio Button with Submit Ready Only problem

    Hello,
    My radio button with submit ready only condition doesn't work correctly. When I click the a link on the first page
    it brings me to an update page. I have a radio button with submit, that won't open as a read only.
    It is being populated by SQL query, with the Null option selected. When I open the page I don't want the user to be able to edit the field unless they delete records associated with the field. Pretty much I want it to be disabled if the user has a record associated with it.
    Here are the queries.
    Source:
    SELECT OPLAN_IMPACTED_I
    FROM DFCY
    WHERE DFCY_SEQNO = :P12_DFCY_SEQNO
    Read only condition:
    SQL Exists query
    SELECT o.dfcy_seqno
    FROM oplan_impactd o, dfcy d
    WHERE o.dfcy_seqno = :p12_dfcy_seqno
    and :P12_OPLAN_IMPACTED_I = d.OPLAN_IMPACTED_I
    and :P12_OPLAN_IMPACTED_I = 'Yes'
    So when the page renders it's like you can change oplan, how do I make it read only when the page renders?
    Thanks,
    Mary

    Hi,
    If that is the source of the radiogroup, then it should be:
    SELECT OPLAN_IMPACTED_I d, OPLAN_IMPACTED_I r
    FROM DFCY
    WHERE DFCY_SEQNO = :P12_DFCY_SEQNOThis should return two values for each radio button - the displayed text and the returned value. If your radios do not have a returned value, then "Yes" will never be found. You can check this by loading the page and doing a View Source on it - search for RADIO and check what "value" attributes they have.
