Radiogroups + jsp + beans + struts

I need to display a page with radiogroups (to be decided at runtime from database) using JSP.
Basically this is an online quiz with questions & every question having 3-4 options as radio buttons.
On submission of the form i need to access the value of the option.
My problem is how can i submit the value in a hashtable (Quesid, RadioValue) for all the radiogroups.
I cant go for individual getters & setters.
Dont know any struts tag for the same.
Kindly guide

Yes this is the solution i use when the collection is displayed alone in a jsp page, but how do you do this when you include this collection in a page, and if you have other collections in other parts of the page ? Is there a clean solution of doing this in the jsp page? For example:
<sometag:loadmycollection name="list"/>
<logic:iterate id="myCollectionElement" name="list">
Element Value: <bean:write name="myCollectionElement" />
</logic:iterate>
I know that i can write my own tag by if there is an existing solution...

  • How to assign bean value to a local variable in JSP using struts.

    Hi everybody!
    I've a problem that puzzled me on how to assign a bean value to a local variable like String in JSP using struts.
    we can have someting like this to display the value
    <bean:write name="detailService" property="status" />or
    <bean:define id="theStatus" name="detailService" property="status"/>
         This is country: <%=theStatus%>but an error occured when I tried like this:
    String currentStatus = "<bean:define id="theStatus" name="detailService" property="status"/>";
    or
    String currentStatus = "<bean:write name="detailService" property="status" />";Is there a way to do this?.....
    Any help pretty much appreciated

    Java != JSP.
    The <bean:define> and <bean:write> tags are custom tags meant to appear in the HTML section of a JSP file, as opposed to the scriptlet section. They actually get turned into java code as part of the translation process.
    The <bean:write> tag naturally just writes out what you tell it to.
    The <bean:define> tag defines a local variable, and gives it a value.
    this should do it.
    <bean:define id="theStatus" name="detailService" property="status" type="java.lang.String"/>
    <%
      String currentStatus = theStatus;
    %>With the advent of JSTL, you shouldn't really need to use scriptlet code anymore. Personally I am for 0% scriptlet code in any jsp I write.

    Use logic:iterate or nested:iterate.

  • Dynamic Textboxes in JSP using struts

    Hi all
    I'm using JSP and Struts framework. I have two buttons Add row and delete row.(not submit buttons) on click i need to either generate or delete a row of textboxes. I able to do the same using javascript but the tag in that case is <input..>(normal HTML) and not <html:text> tag of struts.. Can i use the struts tag in jsp?? I tried but err... So any suggestions?
    A sample code would be of great help.. Im still a beginner in this ocean of Java!
    cya

    If the add/delete row buttons run in javascript, then you have to use the standard <input> tags.
    The struts <html:text> tag is a JSP tag that just generates an <input> at the end of the day anyway (filling in the attributes automatically though)
    As long as you name the controls consistent with what would have been produced by the struts tag, it should work perfectly well.

  • NEWBIE SUPER EASY JSP / BEAN

    With about half a dozen books sitting around my desk, I can't get a REAL basic jsp to work. I FINALLY got tomcat to NOT give run time errors, however the web page simply outputs "This is output:" I know I am an idiot, but this JSP / bean stuff is upsetting. Any help on the following code would be great.
    basic.jsp is as follows:
    <jsp:useBean id="myBean" class="basic.basicbean" scope="session"/>
    <html>
    <head>
    <title>
    A Simple JSP
    </title>
    </head>
    <body>
    <%
    myBean.setBasicName("Michelle");
    %>
    This is output: <% myBean.getBasicName();%>
    </body>
    </html>
    basicbean.java is as follows:
    package basic;
    import java.beans.*;
    public class basicbean {
    private String BasicName=null;
    /** Creates new basicbean */
    public basicbean() {}
    public String getBasicName() {
    return this.BasicName;
    public void setBasicName(String value) {
    this.BasicName = value;
    Made the .java into the class put it in the basic directory under the classes/basic directory of the WEB-INF. The JSP page loads, but only output is: "This is output:" I am using Tomcat as the JSP server. "Core JSP" "Core Servlets and JavaServer Pages" "Advanced JavaServer Pages" "JSP, Servlets, and MySQL", and "Java Server Pages for Dummies" and I still can't get it. Thanks for helping out an idiot.
    -Jim

    You are very close; just a small error in the line:
    This is output: <% myBean.getBasicName();%>
    The problem is your just simply calling the method and tossing the return value. You have three ways of outputing the bean property:
    This is output: <% out.print(myBean.getBasicName();%>
    or
    This is output: <%=myBean.getBasicName()%>
    or
    This is output: <jsp:getProperty name="myBean" property="BasicName" />
    If you use the <jsp:getProperty> approach, then you must have a <jsp:useBean> somewhere above the getProperty tag.

  • JDeveloper editing JSP with Struts tags terribly, terribly slow!?

    I use JDeveloper 10.1.2 and I do not know the reason but it started to take 15min just to change/edit JSP containing Struts tags. RAM memory is 1GB and there is more than 0.5 GB available, but processor usage shows 100% allocated to JDeveloper!? As soon as I do even slight change in a JSP file JDeveloper starts some computations and I have no idea of what it is doing.
    What is JDeveloper computing? It seems it tries to produce some drop-down lists "helping" me to do the editing, add tags and instead I am spending days to just change one small JSP page!
    How can I stop and PREVENT JDeveloper doing ANY "help" during editing of ANY file?
    There must be an option to switch off whatever JDeveloper is doing?
    Many thanks,

    I did that but it is still very slow, it looks like Jdev is doing some intensive calculations whenever I click somewhere on JSP page with tags. Maybe this is related with my other question I posted before this one? Maybe JDev automatically searches for tag libraries it cannot find and copies them to /WEB-INF directory? (other IDEs used in same environment, like Eclipse and IntelliJ, and they do not have this problem)
    Some other strange things: struts-config.xml seems not integrated with CVS from JDev (other files like tiles-config.xml, web.xml etc. are integrated, I can right click and get CVS info on particular file, except struts-config.xml). When I want to check in/out struts-config.xml I have to do it with external tool like WinCVS etc., cannot do that from JDev!

    there are many ways of session handling.... passing as request param, also using hidden fields, else th URL rewritting...
    but all these are not efficient to be passed along if too many pages are using the same session objects. i believe u can also try passing it into an XML file and parse it out whenever needed. but i dont think thats feasible enough.

Why does the JSP need to know that "person" instance is derived from class foo.Person ? (I wonder if I changed this to foo.person --> not Person will result in error). Doesn't the statement request.setAttribute("person",p) from the servlet give enough info already to the JSP? thanks

    The "person" in your servlet has nothing to do with your "person" in your JSP bean tag.

  • Redirect from jsp bean to jsp or html page

    I am facing a problem in redirecting to a jsp page from jsp bean
    How do i redirect from jsp bean to any other page like jsp or html.
    [email protected]

    Hi
    The solution you suggested we tried it long before only but it is not feasible for us as we have to implement it in all web pages which are in thousands.
    My need is like this.
    We have given specific time to each of our registered user , as user logs to our portal we calculate session time in bean and as he logs out is new time gets updated. (its like dial up connection)
    Now what happens consider user has left only 10 minutes balance, I can calculate and keep track for his time in bean.Now as the time becomes zero I want to redirect him to home page.
    As u said i can get return value zero for bean and can do it ,but our webpages are near about thousands.
