Random NoClassDefFoundError problems

I hope some can point me in the right direction.
I seem to be getting random NoClassDefFoundError errors when trying to run my application. This is since I upgraded to 1.4.2_08.
If I try to run the same applet again I get a different NoClassDefFoundError. I know the classes exist because they are all found if I start the applet several times.
If I put the classes in a .jar file it works all the time. Running on java 1.5 works too (I can't use 1.5 because it's too slow!).
Has anyone experienced this before?
Much appreciated

Yes the applet writer CAN choose the version of JVM. For example, if the applet is to be used by one company on an intranet where all the client machines are pre-built. This is the case in this instance.
Well it's quite tedious to make changes to software, then have to build a jar file, clear out your broweer cache just to ensure that the changes you made work. So 'my solution' isn't an adequate solution.
Thanks for your help though.

  • Random shutdown problem on G5 dual 2.3 GHz w/OS 10.4.7

    Hello,
I’m using a dual 2.3 GHz G5, and it’s been working flawlessly since I bought it about a year ago. Until yesterday, I was running OS 10.4.5. Yesterday I upgraded to 10.4.7, and as soon as I booted up after the install, I started having a maddening problem with my computer randomly shutting down. (Not sleeping, but a complete power down.)
At first, the shutdown would happen immediately after powering up; my computer wouldn’t even make it to the blue progress bar. I zapped the PRAM and tried something I found online about unplugging the computer for 15 seconds, then plugging it back in. It now boots up, and I can log in, but the computer still shuts down randomly.
There seems to be no pattern to the shutdowns. I tried taxing the processor by opening and resampling huge Photoshop files while lots of other apps were open, and things were fine. Then it would conk out while I was composing an email.
I’ve heard of this random shutdown problem affecting Macbooks, but I have yet to find anything about G5 towers and OS 10.4.7. Does anyone have any info/advice?
    Many thanks.

    G5 dual 2.3 GHz Mac OS X (10.4.7) 2.5 GB RAM, 250 GB HD

Thanks for the advice. I did check the system.log in Console and found the following altert:
PMU FORCED SHUTDOWN, CAUSE = -122
Now, since my computer is just over a year old, and since this problem happened immediately after applying the 10.4.7 OS update, I found it hard to believe that my hardware could be responsible. After 2 days of troubleshooting, I was stumped; after a 2-hour service call, so was Apple tech support. I ended up doing an archive and install back down to 10.4.5, and all is well.
I tested this issue on other machines running 10.4.7 and had no problems. It seems that the following specific combination of elements triggered the problem:
    • PowerMac G5 dual 2.3 GHz (dual 1.8 machines did not exhibit the same problem)
    • OS 10.4.7
    • Logging in with Open Directory/Active Directory mobile profiles
    • iTunes 7
Bottom line: if you’re using a dual 2.3 GHz PowerMac with mobile OD/AD profiles, do not update to 10.4.7, and steer clear of iTunes 7, at least until there is a patch update available.
(And Apple wants to be taken seriously in the enterprise market?)

  • Are the replacement Heatsinks fixing people's Random Shutdown problems?

Is the replacement heatsink (the shorter one) still the method of choice from Apple for fixing Random Shutdown problems?
Is it working for people who've had it done recently?

Does this max out the CPU?
Yes. People who advocate this are testing to see if it's possible to induce a "random" shut down.
Why would anyone want to do that?
Good question. I've seen two reasons put forward: (a) It's better to make it happen now yourself rather let it strike out of the blue at some later date (and if running this test doesn't induce RSDs you can feel confident that your computer is probably immune); (b) If you take your MacBook to an Apple Store it could be useful for demonstrating to an Apple "genius" that your computer has the problem, especially if your shutdowns are infrequent.
    (personally, I don't agree with (a))

  • Random Shutdown Problem Fixed (for now)

I experienced the same random shutdown problems/symptoms with my MacBook that have been extensively described in this forum and elsewhere. I sent it back for repair under AppleCare and it was returned in 3 days. It has been running now for 4 days with no problems and far cooler and quieter (the fan rarely comes on) than it was before. The repair sheet indicates that the heat sink and heat assembly unit were replaced.
I'll keep my fingers crossed, but at least in my case and perhaps others, the problem may simply have to do with the thermal contact with the heat sink going bad and the processor simply shuts down due to overheating.
    MacBook 2 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Followup:
They told me something interesting at my Mac Retailer. They have had two other machines brought in doing the same thing. They tried new logic boards with no success, they tried new thermal assemblies with no luck, new ram - nothing seemed to solve the problem.
What they finnally did was replace the Hard Drive - they tell me this has fixed the problem. Now I don't know if that is what they'll do to mine. The other two machines had the 60gb drives - mine is a 100gb, but we'll see. From all I have heard, this doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Anyway, we'll see what happens.
Anyone else hear anything about replacing the hard drive?

  • Random performance problems

    Hello,
We have a medium sized internet application which is experiencing random performance problems. The applications data is stored in xml which is read/saved every page hit to a clob. The table which holds the clob has the cacheing option enabled and the clob is stored out of line (clob sizes range from 14k - 1mb)
THE PROBLEM - Normally the read/write takes 5-10 seconds. We have been experiencing times of up to 350+ seconds. This is not a locking issue. When writing the clob to the database, we do not chunk, we simply pass the entire xml string at one time.
Any ideas how you would debug this problem? Has anyone ran into any other similar problems?

  • Random Shutdown Problem

Hello I started seeing the random shutdown problem around 6 weeks ago. The problem occurs every once in a while usually around the first 5 minutes of the unit booting up. When the system powers down I will try to bring it back up but it just powers down within about 15-30 seconds again. So I wait a little while about a minute, sometimes removing the battery for 30 seconds and the system will come back fine. The random shutdown has happened probably about a dozen times within the last 6 weeks. It's not causing a real big headache yet. I didn't purchase Applecare as I never do because I rarely keep a laptop for more than a year. My question is has anyone got their unit fixed what was the culprit. I've sent my unit in already once due to receiving a spinning pinwheel 90% of the time. They gutted the unit and sent it back and it has been working fine other than the RSD. I've been waiting things out to see if there is going to be a software fix for the RSD. Any tips recommendations are appreciated.

My question is has anyone got their unit
    fixed what was the culprit.
Mine has not had the problem recur after replacing the heat sink a month ago. Currently Apple seems to be replacing both logic board and heat sink with a new design for the combination.

General opinion would say it's a hardware problem; there won't be a software fix.
I'd say you should send in it for repair.

  • Random Shutdown Problem (External HD problem?)

I've had a problem that's been getting worse recently. My MacBook Pro will freeze up, and a multi-language "you need to shut-down" message will cover the screen at seemingly random times. I've started to notice that this only happens when I'm using iTunes. I have a good amount of music, and it's all on my external hard-drive. I think this may play a part in the error, but I can't tell anything besides that. It's happened after my external HD was asleep and I clicked on a song to play it, and its also happened when my external was awake and playing my music. Also, it happened when I just closed iTunes. To resolve it I have to do a hard reboot.
Any possible solutions? I'm a student, and I don't want it to happen when I'm in the middle of a paper or other projects.

Turns out it is what they call a kernel panic.

I installed 6 operating systems on my pc (WinXp Home Edition Turkish/English,WinXP Pro Turkish/English,Win98 Turkish/English) and tested it, but every time i meet the same thing (MS Blue Screen Of Death Sux...).I checked the WinXP`s logs and searched for error code`s meaning from microsoft knowledge database. They are saying nothing about this problem but the problem`s root is coming from a bad device driver. It seems to be a generic problem for all operating systems cuz all of them were restarting themselves randomly, before i close "auto-restart on critical errors" option. After i saw some messages on forums , i searched for my RAM maker`s home page then i learned that my RAM is assembled with VIA KT Series and SIS chips & optimized for them. I think nForce is too picky about rams. But i aint sure about where the hell is this problem coming from. If you guys are sure about that is an unsupported ram problem and knew the list of ram marks&models that supported by MSI K7N2 Delta -L ,please help me about this damn problem. Thanks for your help.
Note : I tried Asus Ati Radeon 9200SE 64mb g.adapter (some peoples told me thats about g.adapter), but problem continued.

If I read correctly in your specs I see only 11 Amps on the +12v Rail. Is this correct?
If so, I'd advise a PSU that has at least 18 amps on the +12v Rail, perhaps as low as 16 with the other rails to match as shown currently in your spec.
11 Amps is just way too underpowered for that rig. I am surprised it even boots.
At what point does the BSOD occur?

  • IPod and JVC Car Stereo random resetting problem

    Hey all,
I recently bought my first iPod (yay!), a 30gig 5th generation. I also had a JVC KD-PDR30 cd player installed in my car so that I could hook up the iPod to it and eliminate all the random cds cluttering up my vehicle. It works great -- most of the time... the last few days I've my iPod has been randomly resetting itself while connected to the car stereo -- it's connected through the dock port (not the headphone jack) and works 90% of the time. Even still, this is frustrating. I almost want to just connect it from the headphone jack to the aux in on the car stereo. Anyway, it only seems to do this while it is connected to the car stereo. I've never had a problem with the iPod resetting while using it outside of the car. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks Apple community!!!
    Theo

I had the JVC radio with iPod connector which worked just fine for my old iPod. When I upgraded to the iTouch I had to put in a new JVC stereo. The old version does not work with the iTouch (the same issues prev. stated). The new stereo has an USB hookup on the front. It plays the iTouch, but occas. the song or book will skip. At first I thought it was when I turned corners, but realized it was just random. A bit annoying. I looked at other stereos, but I could not get the iTouch and Sirus in the same unit, except for the JVC. If you can live without your iTouch I would wait until JVC or Apple address this issue. I could not live without either (I hate commercials!), so I made the jump to the first generation. I know better.

  • Pro Random Shutdown problem?

So we bought a 15" Pro and it has this odd problem of just randomly shutting down. The battery has power in it and most of the time it is plugged into the wall anyway. Sometimes music is playing or I am even actily using teh laptop and then it just shutts down and I have to reboot. I know I will have to take it in for repairs and/or replacement, but I was wondering if anyone else has heard of or experienced this problem and have any idea what would cause such an issue?

The problem you are describing could be a bad battery. You should check to see if your battery is part of the recall (https://support.apple.com/macbookpro15/batteryexchange/). If it is...there's your problem.
If it's not, it still could be the battery, but you should try resetting the PMU first (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303319). If that doesn't work, call AppleCare and ask for a replacement battery...
Lots of folks on these boards have described similar experiences....try using the "Search Discussions" feature next time...

  • A more mysterious NoClassDefFoundError problem

This is a continuation of cannot solve NoClassDefFoundError. I implemented amtguy's suggestion to the previous thread and it fixed my problem. I didn't know -cp was ignored when using -jar.
In my executable jar's manifest, I specified the Class-Path: entry with the jars I need and problem solved.
Now, I get NoClassDefFoundError for the class that is the entry point for the executable jar.
The manifest's Main-Class: value is ok. It contains the full package name for the class. The class is in the jar and its path matches the package name.
How did setting the manifest Class-Path: break things so that the class I am trying to execute cannot be found?
    Again, thanks for any help.

I have the same problem ... it sure would be nice to make the jsp:plugin tag able to understand what to do on Mac OS X.

The directory to my main class file is as follows:
    C:\tinyos\cygwin\opt\tinyos-1.x\contrib\cotsbots\tools\RobotCmd\RobotCmdGUI.class
I wonder what else could be the problem and why there's a $1 in "Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: RobotCmd/RobotCmdGUI$1" since my main class file is RobotCmdGUI

there's a $1 in "Exception in thread "main"
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError:

    RobotCmdGUI
The RobotCmd/RobotCmdGUI$1 represents an annonymous class inside the RobotCmdGUI class - probably a listener of some sort. This must be present inside the jar - it sounds like you did not put it in the jar. You can check the contents of the jar using "jar tf RobtCmdGUI.jar"

  • NoClassDefFoundError problem

    Hi again friends,
I'm using JDEV to develop OAF, I have no problem doing unit test with Mockito, and Junit 3.x. JUnit 3 is the officially supported version for my IDE build.
I wanted to use JUnit 4, so I decided to just run my tests using ant build file. Everything compiled fine after adding the jar/zip files from jdev one after another in the ant classpath.
But when I try to run the unit test, I am getting this NoClassDefFoundError apparently from a class file is I already included in the build file. The method call having problem same version jar file Mockito.

I'm unfamiliar with JDEV, but the short answer is: Find where oracle.adf.mds.repos.DatabaseContext.class is on your machine & add it to your classpath.

  • Random wifi problems on macbook pro

Hi, I have a macbook pro currently running snow leopard 10.6.4. Most of the time I am able to establish a good fast connection through my wireless network but at least once a day it stops working and I cannot connect. Resetting the router sometimes helps but not always. I have also tried the airport diagnostics, which also sometimes helps. There is no clear cause or repeatable solution to this that I have found - it seems completely random. I probably spend 5 - 10 minutes every day trying to connect. I had the same problem using Tiger, and it also happens on other wireless networks. I am thinking it is something in my computer, not the network but I don't know how to proceed.

I read a post that found their mac was overheating causing this problem. There is software called Temperature Monitor you can get to watch your temps and see if there is a correlation to the Airport shutting down.

  • Extended random sleep problem

I've seen several threads here about PBs randomly turning off, and lots of tips to try to fix the problem. However, my PB randomly went to sleep but hasn't turned on for almost 12 hours. Before, it would wake up after 30 minutes at the most. I know its still asleep because the light is still pulsing, but I'm kind of stuck. It won't turn on, it won't shut down. Any ideas of what to do?

    AJ,
You could be having the same problem I am experiencing and while it isn't fully solved, I am getting around it quite comfortably for the time being. If you go to a thread with my name called "sleeps and won't wake" on the same forum there's a description and web link to an alternative trackpad driver called Sidetrack which, if you install, stops the pb from sleeping at random. It costs nothing and has worked for me. I did upgrade to 10.4.3 in the hope that apple had fixed the problem and unistalled sidetrack but the problem began to reoccur. Worth a go.
