Random video playback program
Hi,
I have posted this request for the past couple of years. I am amazed that some simple program cannot do the following -
Play video clips in random order. That's it. That is all it has to do.
I am only sending this post to you since you are a top user here and seem to know a lot about this stuf, and I was reading this discussion on video mgt programs.
iTunes will allow you to play a list of videos but only in order from top to bottom. If you try shuffle it freezes. I've talked to Apple techs about this too and other third party vendors like Boinx. Random video playbacks are not featured in any program out there for all I know.
It would be nice too if the program could equalize the sound level too from video to video - that's all it would have to do.
Is there a reason why this is so hard to do? I have a mac mini attached to a Apple Cinema and I like to show video clips from Vimeo and other places but not always in the same stale order from top to bottom. Yes I can drag and re-order the playlist, but sure would be nice to have it all done randomly and to keep a constant volume level from video to video.
thanks - if you have any ideas or can help
Thanks Nick,
Have you tried using VLC and it plays videos randomly ?
I am trying to register with the VLC forum and I can't get on.
It is not taking my registration.

I think a random video playback feature would be neat in iTunes or Front Row or am I the only guy that digs this? I could be since third party developers are not harkening to this calling.I've never had any issue using the shuffle feature in iTunes to play videos in random order. You might try creating another user account to see if it is a permission issue. If it's not, you might want to reload the latest version of iTunes on your computer.

BUG: Playback Fails When Loading A Random Video - Firmware 1.2
I've been looking all over on where to post a bug, and for a fix for this bug I found. Not many seem to be having this problem (I assume not many are trying to randomly play a video from a video playlist)
BUG: Playback Fails When Loading A Random Video
iPod FIRMWARE: 1.2
PROBLEM (1): When pressing "Play" on a video playlist or on 'Music Videos' while the iPod is set to Random->Song, the iPod displays a white playback screen, displays song 0 of 0, empty duration bar and a duration time of 0:00/-0:00.
PROBLEM (2): After successful playing a seleted video within a video playlist or music video list, the iPod attempts to play a randomly choosen video (HDD clicks abnormally) but times-out and returns the user to the Playlist selection screen.
iPod MODEL: 60GB Video - Black [Bought in NOV 05]
If anyone knows how to report a bug, or anyone else having this problem (Try it on you iPod, post your results!) let me know!I've been looking all over on where to post a bug...If anyone knows how to report a bug let me know!
If you want to post a bug report for Apple to see, then this wouldn't be the place to post it (Apple employees rarely look on these forums; all other regular posters on here are just users that like to help others).
To tell Apple about this, select "Bug Report" under "Feedback Type" on their Feedback form for iPods here -> iPod Feedback
I hope this helps you,
-Kylene
If any post helps or solves your issue, please mark it that way accordingly. Thank you for helping the boards! -
Program Monitor is Black, no video playback after installing new graphics card
I bought a PNY Nvidia Quadro 2000 graphics card a few days ago, and since it's been installed, I've been unable to watch video playback in my program, source or even reference monitor.
Similarly, If I designate one of my monitors soley for video playback, the screen is just black, and as the timecode advances on my timeline I only hear sound.
My project is using "Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration" for Premiere Pro CS6.0.1
I went from using one graphics card to using two graphics cards, and installed a third monitor. I've spent the last few days trying everything I could think of, I even uninstalled and re-installed premiere.
Hardware Specs:
Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit)
HP Pavilion h8-1230z
AMD-FX8150 3.59Ghz 8 core processesor
16GB RAM
600W PS
EVGA Nvidia GeForce GTX 550Ti
PNY Nvidia Quadro 2000
I am using a PCI x16 for the Quadro 2000
I am using a PCI x1 slot w/x1-x16 adapter for the 550Ti
Could this be the problem?
Additional Information
Vectorscope, All scopes, YC Waveform - Display modes all work.
I downloaded the most recent Nvidia drivers for both of my cards.
I haven't received any error messages or had any problems in After Effects CS6, as video playback is working properly in my other adobe applications.I am still building a new system, so currently I'm still using a 480. You can read all about my choices and progress here: Adobe Forums: Planning / building a new system. Part 1
There are 11 entries in the Benchmark Results that succesfully use the GTX 680, even though it is not 'supported'. They all use the 'hack'. However, the 680 has been added to the list of supported cards for AE, so it is only a matter of time before the 680 will be added to the list of supported cards for PR. Todd had made that clear. Now, when the 680 is added, it makes sense that the 670 will also be added. My guess is that both will be added in a short while. -
No video playback in Premiere Elements 10
Hi,
I've got something I can't solve here. I cannot playback any video in Elements 10 on win 8.1. It was originally a Canon .MOV recorded on a G12, and i could hear audio but see nothing. I then converted the file to a AVI, MP4, etc...and got nothing. So I went to my archive and loaded up some other files that had been working with the same program on Win7, nada. Then I tried various random videos, .flv etc.. Then tried to run videos previously created with this software.
I also tried Win7 compatibility mode, and run as Admin.
All of the above videos played fine in various video software.
Any ideas?
Thanks,Candy
What is the video card/graphics card that is being used by the computer with your Premiere Elements 10? You may a Premiere Elements 10 user hit by the NVIDIA video card issue which requires a roll back of the driver version rather than assuring the you have the latest version of the driver installed. Please check out the following thread on that possibility.
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1317675
By the way, flv files never have imported into Premiere Elements (any version). However, you can export a Premiere Elements Timeline to a .flv file.
Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your Windows 7 (assumed 64 bit) computer?
We will be watching for your follow up with more details of your situation.
Thanks.

Playback problems - Video playback stops after 1 second (CS5)
Hello forum,
i recently got huge problems with video playback. The video stops playing after rougly one second and the last frame freezes. After that, Premiere won't show any frames when scrubbing through the sequene. It just shows the freezed frame and the whole program just becomes terribly slow.
Sometimes the playback is just fine, but in some cases the playback error occures randomly. I experienced that the error happens even more frequenly when Flash Player plays back a video in the background, e.g. a youtube video.
Maybe the playback errors happen because my harddrive is almost full (1,5TB capacity, 300 GB left)? Or is it because of a few plugins ( e.g. filmconvert)?
I run Windows 7, Premiere CS5 on an I7 860 2,8 Ghz quad core CPU with 8 GB of RAM and a nvidia 460 GPU.
Thanks for your help.sounds like a major shortout. you can take it in, but this isn't going to be good news, I'm afaird.

Help! I just moved my itunes library from a Win 7 computer to a new Win 8.1 computer following the instructions on the itunes website. Everything is good except I'm getting an error message on the Win 8 computer if I try to play a CD or get an audio file off of the internet. I get an error message that says "iTunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration. Audio/Video playback may not operate properly. I don't know where to look for or fix the audio configuration on the win 8 computer. As far as I can tell the iTunes configuration looks the same as on the other computers in the house. At this point I don't dare plug my ipod touch into the Win 8 computer for fear it will get messed up.
I have the same problem and I know that it is due to my PCI Audio driver not being compatible with WIndows 8.1.
iTunes isn't the only program that can't direct sound to the built-in speakers anymore. The obvious solution would be to update the drivers, but unfortunately Dell does not provide an updated driver for my model, so I am stuck with that.
However, saying that, only my laptop speakers are affected by this. I can use sound fine on applications where I can choose the output device and direct sound to the head phones, but for some reason iTunes does not let you choose the audio device manually.
To listen to music I imported the iTunes Library in Windows Media Player and changed the audio output using the following instructions: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/c00d11ba
However, I would also like to rent movie's from iTunes,
Would be great if iTunes would let you choose the output device, too, like most other applications using sound from Skype to Windows Media Player,... -
Judder in flash video playback
I'm having this weird random judder issue when viewing video playback using the flash player (e.g. youtube). The judder is very noticeable on 2d scrolling videos such as this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VAdHJYUjeVo&feature=g-all-u#t=10m40s. I have gotten the judder to go away only a few times by jumping around video resolutions and using the "show video info" option. It's totally inconsistent in terms of a fix. Video info shows that it's running at 30fps and not dropping frames. I've used current versions of firefox, chrome and IE with the same results. I'm seriously baffled.
This just didn't become an issue with the current version of flash. It's been an issue across many versions of flash.
In the ways of the troubleshooting I've tried with no success:
Uninstalled and reinstalled flash.
Turned off hardware acceleration.
Disabled plugins and extensions.
Uninstalled my antivirus (avira).
Done a clean wipe and install of my video drivers.
Disabled aero.
Any ideas or suggestions would help a lot. Thanks in advance.

Bug report has been submitted.
I'm pretty sure the judder has always been there. Sometimes it's more pronounced and sometimes it's not. As I said it's very inconsistent. But 95% of the time there is judder.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling flash ver. 10.3.183.43 and unfortunately it did not fix it.
It's so weird. It really looks like it's dropping fps at random and yet flash player video info says it's fluctuating between 29-31 fps and not dropping frames.
I really don't understand how me going back and forth between resolutions and fullscreen and right clicking on the video to bring up video info will make it go away randomly. -
Corrupt video playback in Kodi and black screen when emulating.
Hi!
I have a problem most likely related to each other. When I try to play back videos in Kodi the video just gets scrambled, it fast forwards very fast and looks generally corrupted and when I try to start a game in some emulator (for example mupen64plus) the screen just turns black.
Kodi seems to work really well otherwise, it got sounds in the menus and the menus are smooth when navigating. Same with emulators, the GUI (mupen64plus doesn't have one) works well and I can navigate the menus and everything but as soon as I start a game the screen turns black with no sound.
I tried OpenELEC (which is a distribution that has the main purpose of running Kodi) and the video playback works just fine. Sadly it's not very emulator friendly.
The packages I have installed are: "xf86-video-ati" (dependence: "mesa"), "xorg-server" (dependence: "mesa-libgl") and "xorg-xinit".
And the way that I the programs are usually from .xinitrc (example: exec kodi-standalone) and then xinit.
Hardware:
Motherboard: ASRock FM2A78M-ITX+ mITX
APU: AMD A10-7800 (the GPU part is GCN 1.1 aka Sea Islands)
All connected through HDMI
Any help would really be appreciated!

Disable Direct3D acceleration in the player you are using.
If you use VLC media player, Go to preferences, Video, And under output, change from default to "Direct 2D video output"
If you use Quicktime, Downgrade to Quicktime 7.6 or upgrade to quicktime 7.7.3 and Go to
Edit --> Preferences -->Quicktime preferences.
Under that, go to advanced tab, and uncheck "Enable Direct3d acceleration" (3'rd box)
Fixed the problem for me

Video playback issue with 3rd gen iPod Touch
Hi all,
I just recently discovered an issue with my iPod touch 3rd generation video playback. The issue just reared its head today and I have no idea what I could've done to cause it. It's a small issue but frustrating enough to cause a problem.
If I watch a video normally (by opening up the Videos section and picking it), it'll play through to the end, then start over again, then stop. This only happens if I choose videos randomly, and doesn't happen if I play videos in a playlist.
What could be the issue?I'll second that. I've been having the same problem since the last software update

No video playback in premiere elements 12
No playback after a few mins of editing. Tried most of the potion in the adobe troubleshooting section (http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-elements/kb/troubleshoot-digital-video-playback-premiere-2 .html) but never got anywhere. Most options listed are for Windows. I have an almost new Mac with all the system requirement to run Elements 12 . HELP, PLEASE
bjgarciac
I am strictly an Elements Windows user, but I do try to find common ground between Premiere Elements 12 Windows and Mac as a first pass at troubleshooting issues like the one your present.
1. What are the properties and duration of your source media?
Video compression
Audio compression
Frame Size
File Extension
Frame Rate
Interlaced or Progressive
Pixel Aspect Ratio
Brand/Model/Settings for Camera which recorded the video would help.
2. What did you or the program set as the project preset based on a match of project preset with properties of the source media?
3. What have you done in the way of edits after which you have problems? What is the duration of the TImeline at that point? Is this a multi track project?
Please explain "playback stops"
a. The TImeline Indicator will not move from the start of the Timeline when you press Play in the Edit area monitor?
b. Playback stops after playing back about few seconds of the Timeline content
c. Other
Do you have the Work Area Bar gray tabs set to span the whole content of the Timeline?
When you are playing back your Timeline in the Edit area monitor, does your Timeline content have an orange, green, or no colored line
over its duration?
4. Are you running a dual or single computer monitor setup? If you right click the Edit area monitor and select Playback Quality is there any
difference in the problem whether you set for Highest instead of Automatic?
5. For this type of video and this type of project, would you class this problem as
"it worked before but not now" or "it never worked before".
Thank you.

Slow/unresponsive video playback, media pending, after CC'14 October update
Encountering a strange issue after the October update. It's a project carried over from the previous CC'14 version, nothing crazy, about an 18 minute timeline of video/.mov clips straight off a JVC GY-HM600U with simple RGB curves/masks on some clips, some Prores422 clips of graphics exported out of After Effects, a couple nested sequences featuring simple text w/ cross dissolves, and a lower 3rd Quicktime with RGB+Alpha. There are some linked AE comps in the project but not in the sequence. Ran fine before update. Here's my system, obviously no CUDA so Mercury Playback is software only:
Upon opening the project everything is fine, playback is smooth, scrubbing from beginning to end no problem. After a period of time, 10-15 minutes? Suddenly video playback hangs up, with audio continuing to play after . Opening a clip in the Source window displays the Media Pending thumbnail, after 15 seconds it seems to find the media but again it's only a still frame with video hanging up. Then audio seems to hang up and I can't do anything. I can still manipulate the UI but scrubbing through the timeline is completely unresponsive, pressing play does nothing.
Quitting the program seems to freeze it, the window closes but it stays lit up in my dock and shows Application Not Responding, causing me to force quit.
A system reboot yesterday seemed to clear the issue up for the remainder of the work day but it's back today. Not sure where the issue is coming from, but seems like some kind of memory leak or something similar since it seems to be a gradual degradation in performance. I'll have to roll back to a previous version to finish up this project until things are fixed.Hello,
Many thanks for your very long reply and your interest in my problems.
I shall try to answer you :
- 1) OS : Windows 7 64 bits Pro SP1, french,
Version : 6.1.7601.18247 (Win7RTM)
Framework.NET : 4.0.30319.18408 built by : FX451RTMGREL)
DirectX : 11.0,
OpenGL : 6.1.7600.16385 (Win7_rtm.090713-1255).
- 2) Yes the media pending goes away but after a couple of minutes (one
year ago I was using PP CS6 and Encore CS6, I never had this problem
even with very long files),
- 3) Yes my GPU driver is updated (Nvidia GeForce 332.21 dated 12/19/2014).
I never had thiese problems with PP CS6 + Encore CS6 and my projects
built with these PP ans Encore version were with the same structure and
length (in PP CS6 : sequences up to 45 minutes, in Encore CS6 chapters
up to the same time).
The difference between are in my hardware :
- the RAM was upgraded from 12 GB to 24 GB,
- the CPU was overclocked from 3,2 GHz (default) to 3,88 GHz).
- 4) I shall try up to the disk burn to check if the problem is just due
to display of "animated buttons".
I hope my answer will be usefull for you.
Regards,
Jacques Gourier.

I’ve been looking on this forum and if this problem is covered in another post, if you could point me in that direction that would be great. If you have an answer to this problem that would also be great.
We build classroom presentations in InDesign and export them to PDF for final output. We use Acrobat Professional to place the videos, audio, buttons etc. Everything is currently done in Acrobat 6.0.2.
We place the videos (not embedded) and play them with the built in player as the preference. We place .mpg movies that are H.264
We have not had an issue with videos playing in various versions of Acrobat until Acrobat 9 came out. Our two most recent programs are having playback issues with Acrobat 9 but previous programs that were built the same way are running fine.
We have switched up to InDesign CS4 from CS1. I have rebuilt part of a presentation in CS1 from the ground up but still have a playback problem in Acrobat 9 and Acrobat 9 with the small updates.
Our classroom presentations are broken down into modules and are built with multiple PDF files, one for each modules. It starts with a tile screen and moving through a few files with buttons built in Acrobat you get to the various modules.
Here are the playback issues.
When we start from the title screen and use the links when we arrive at a video and click on the video it doesn’t play. If you then go to another module (different PDF file) and then back to the previous module (PDF file you were just at) and click on the video it will play.
I then tested just opening the direct module that contains a video. If you open the PDF directly and click on the video it will then play.
To do some further testing, with one of the modules containing a video, I removed all buttons in that file. When you then start from the title screen and navigate to the PDF file with a movie and click on it, it will then play. To follow-up on that test, I then added one button, navigated in from the title screen and then the video would not play.
Each time I did a new test, I shut Acrobat down and started it fresh.
If I did a test and got the video to play each of the following videos, in other PDF files would then play without any problem.
Our classroom presentation are set in full screen mode with the video as a floating window. I did test it out of full screen mode, and the same symptoms happen for each scenario.
Again, our previous 80+ programs are working fine, which makes me think there is something in CS4 that I am missing, but when I rebuilt part of on in CS1 it still had the same issues.
Our material is built on Mac and in class run on both Mac and Windows machines. The video play back problem happens on both Mac and Windows machines.
If I run it on Acrobat 7 or 8, everything works fine.
We will be authoring on a newer version in the future, but currently I’m trying to solve this problem on the video playback in Acrobat 9 (with minor updates).
If anyone has any insight into this issue please post a response.
Thanks in advance for any help.Hey Steve,
Thanks for the response. You are correct, we lay out the documents in
InDesign, them export a PDF. From that point on we are doing all the linking
and placing of video files in Acrobat 6.0.2.
It has been a hard one to get consistent to trouble shoot out. We hit the
glitch with 9 due to the new windows machines needing 9.
I have been working in 9 a little and it seems like when I place a mpg file
and accept that an external player will be used I can then choose the button
tool and it recognizes the movie, almost like a button. I don't know if that
is where some of the conflict comes from.
Last week I talked to our IT department about needing to move up to 9 and
getting comfortable with 9 before we transition as we will need to have all
our instructor laptops currently in the field updated. The pinch is we are
on a tight schedule and have to have two classes authored by mid-October.
After that we can look into a transition, but right now I'm between a rock
and a hard place for anyone with a new windows machine.

Subject: Video Playback In Acrobat 9
I'm sorry, John, it sounds to me like you are using the term 'Acrobat' to mean
everything. I'm wondering if the files are being authored/created in Acrobat
6.0.2, then played back in Adobe Reader 9. If this is the case, it certainly
sounds like there may be a bug in 9. However, I would highly recommend
authoring these files in Acrobat 9.x Professional. H.264 files are handled
directly by the new Flash Tool. I've tested what I believe are your steps to
reproduce and my result worked fine. I created a PDF that is just an H.264
video and set its playback property to play when the PDF is opened. I also
set the PDF to open in Full Screen mode. I then created a PDF that had
nothing on it but a button that calls the first H.264 video PDF and the whole
thing works great. I did this all on a Mac.
Anyway, let me know if I have that right; you're authoring all of these in
Acorbat 6.0.2.

Loss of sound and video playback on ENVY X2
Every so often, more often than I would like, my HP Envy X2 loses sound and video playback capabilities; any ideas anybody? The concept of this machine is great and have had it for the past 9 months but this loss of sound and vision is so unpredictable and frustating...
Hi Brumage,
I saw your post regarding the sound and video issues and I will be happy to help. Do you get any error messages when this happens? Have noticed if it is a particular site like YouTube or program that you are using when the issue occurs or does it occur on all programs? When you restarted the Envy X2 does the issue go away?
I would start by suggesting that you make sure all updates have been installed through HP Support Assistant and Windows Update.
What operating system are you running? What is your product number?
Find your product number on a notebook:
