RDS - Remove Unknown Publisher warning?

I found an article that shows how to remove the Unknown Publisher warning.  See
Here.
The suggested GPO setting is below.  But so far, I cannot get an instance to not show the publisher warning.  Any suggestions?
Computer Configuration/Administrative Templates/Windows Components/Terminal Server/Remote Desktop Connection Client
Enabled "Specify SHA1 thumbprints of certificates representing trusted .rdp publishers" policy and entered SHA1 thumbprint from the certificate >for example, that is " bb e6 3e a6 7f 9c 46 9f 5a d4 e8 1d d4 44 e1 84 02 86 51 e0"
    (opened Certificate mmc > double clicked on the customer's certificate "xxx.xxx.com" > clicked on the "detail" tab > searched for thumbprint as " bb e6 3e a6 7f 9c 46 9f 5a d4 e8 1d d4 44 e1 84 02 86
51 e0" > copied it and saved on a notepad.)

Hi,
Do you have a trusted certificate configured to sign the .rdp files?  For example, on Server 2012/2012 R2 in Server Manager -- RDS -- Overview -- Tasks -- Edit Deployment Properties -- Certificates tab you would have a certificate issued by a trusted
public authority such as GoDaddy, Thawte, Comodo, GeoTrust, etc. assigned to RD Connection Broker - Publishing.  If you are using Server 2008 R2 you would configure the certificate used for digital signing in RemoteApp Manager on the RDSH server that
is set as the source for RD Web Access.
If you have a trusted certificate configured for signing your .rdp files you should not get an Unknown Publisher warning when launching RemoteApps from RD Web Access or RemoteApp and Desktop Connections.  The warning should be something similar to a
website wants to run a RemoteApp program or similar message, and it should show you the publisher, which will be the subject of your trusted certificate.
Once you are not receiving the Unknown Publisher warning, please verify that you have set the correct thumbprint for the trusted certificate you are using to sign your .rdp files via group policy setting on
the client PCs.  There should be no spaces in the thumbprint.
Thanks.

  • ClickOnce, Windows 8+, SmartScreen, Unknown Publisher & EV Certificate

In an attempt to eliminate the Smart Screen warning in Windows 8+, my company purchased an EV Certificate from Symantec
to use for a software product we produce. Specifically it is called: Symantec Class 3 Extended Validation Code Signing CA – G2.
We use Visual Studio 2013 for development and ClickOnce as our installer.  When we first installed the certificate
into ClickOnce, we were unable to publish because of an “unexpected internal error” problem.  We solved that problem by applying the fix detailed
    here:
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/073aa844-26e6-42ef-a0ea-05c58dd29199/project-publish-with-digicert-signtool-error-an-unexpected-internal-error-has-occurred
Now we can build and publish and the Smart Screen warning in Windows 8+ is gone.  However,
the install dialogs produced by our ClickOnce installer are showing:
    Publisher: Unknown Publisher
We have read dozens of forum postings about possible ways
of fixing this problem by going outside of ClickOnce and running some combination of signtool.exe and mage.exe on various files.
While this may or may not work, we have a simple question: Is it possible to simply install an EV Certificate inside of
ClickOnce and then publish a version that both passes Smart Screen and shows the publisher name correctly?
Or, is there a bug in ClickOnce that prevents this?
It appears from our reading that ClickOnce has a bug, but we would like to have that confirmed or clarified by Microsoft.

    Hi Michael,
Thanks for your response.  As you mentioned, there are a lot of variables here so it can be confusing.  Let me try to clarify:
Let me first tell you about our application.  We have two Windows components, both written in C# running under .NET.  One is a Windows Forms tray application implemented as an executable (.exe), and the other is an Outlook VSTO add-in implemented
as a dynamic link libaray (.dll).  We have separate ClickOnce installers for each component.  We need to offer our users a clean install experience on any Windows desktop version from Vista through 8+.
Prior to this week we used a Thawte Code Signing G2 certificate for our components. We implemented this by checking the “Sign The ClickOnce Manifests” box in Visual Studio 2013 and allowing ClickOnce to handle the signing tasks.  This worked well for
all installs up through Windows 7.  However, Windows 8 SmartScreen ignored the Thawte certificate and threw up an ugly warning.  We researched the problem, determined that we needed a different type of certificate and so we purchased a Symantec Class
3 Extended Validation Code Signing G2 certificate.
This is when we encountered ISSUE 1.  We selected the new EV certificate under the ClickOnce “Signing” option and attempted to build, and then we encountered the “unexpected internal error” problem you referred to.  We researched the problem, found
a fix and applied it.  The details of this part are given earlier so I won’t repeat them here.
At this point we were able to achieve successful builds for both components.  We published ClickOnce installers and both were able to install successfully on all versions of Windows without warning, and this included passing through Windows 8 SmartScreen
    with no warning.
However, with both installers, on every version of Windows we now get an “Unknown Publisher” warning on this dialog:
    http://lightrunner.com/images/unk-pub.png
The same dialog is shown on all versions of Windows.
I am currently in the process of trying every combination I can think of, of signing the executeables, dlls and manifests that ClickOnce is not signing to see if it solves the problem.  This requires running signtool.exe and mage.exe at different stages
in the build/publish cycle so it’s a bit tricky.  So far no luck.
And, yes, I’ve tried everything in RobinDotNet’s blog posting and it hasn’t worked.  Still trying as of this posting.
Let me know if I’ve missed anything, or if any of this needs further clarification.
    Best regards,
    -Drew

  • Unknowner publisher error for signed apps

We have an AIR app (signed with Thawte code signing cert)
that we use to associate to a certain file extension. When we
download and open a file with the extension that is associated with
air app in IE7, IE throws "Unknowner publisher" warning for the
application exe. Is there a way to sign the application exe also so
that users will know we are not shipping any untrusted executable
    in our app?
You can see a screenshot at
    http://www.gotcodeblog.com/screenshots/unknown_publisher.png
    Thanks

No, AIR does not have this capability. There is currently no
relationship between the signature applied to the .air file and the
authenticode signature that Windows is looking for.

  • I cannot launch iTunesSetup.exe - unknown publisher

When I open iTunesSetup.exe after downloading it from the website there is warning message that the file does not have a valid digital signature & is from an unknown publisher. This is confirmed when right clicking the file & selecting properties. I have spent 2 hours on the phone with a helpful guy from Apple but have drawn a blank .Firewall has been turned off , Norton 360 removed , internet settings changed , temp file deleted , etc etc .
Norton have said that Microsoft may know what to do . Is anyone else having this problem ? Surely the file on the website cannot be faulty ?

The most common fix for this is to download the iTunesSetup.exe file from another router.
Or, if you are downloading from a wireless connection, try downloading from wired connection.
Here are just 2 examples where this was the fix for other folks

  • When i try to uninstall itunes i get unidentified publisher warning.

I started to uninstall apple programs in order to reinstall itunes, due to a problem resulting from a recent upgrade.  I get a warning message:  unidentified publisher.  should i go ahead and uninstall anyway?

I get a warning message:  unidentified publisher.
A bit unusual in this context ... usually folks get that sort of one when they're installing iTunes, and the installer they are using has gotten damaged during the download.
Just to try and cover the bases I might try the following.
Download and save a fresh iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) installer file from the Apple website (don't run the install on line):
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Now right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) file, and select "Run as administrator".
If the installer asks you to remove or repair itunes: select "Remove". If the uninstall goes through okay, right-click on the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) file, and select "Run as administrator" again to reinstall iTunes.
Otherwise, if the installer just runs and tries to install a newer version, does that go through any better without the "Unknown Publisher" message?

With TSM adware removal tool I was able to remove unknown software that was making ads pop up when using Safari. So the y don't pop up anymore. The problem now is that when I open safari It is still downloading websites and after awhile it freezes the browser. I have to constantly go to Safari Preferences to remove them and then the browser will start working again. What can I do to stop this?

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the behest of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
    11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start Time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Getting an "unknown publisher" error when downloading itunes

I am trying to download the latest version of Itunes.  I keep getting an "Unknown Publisher" message from Internet Explorer.  I went through the troubleshooting and removed all apple apps.  Now I am stuck. Any ideas?

That suggests that the installer is getting damaged during the download.
I'd first try downloading an installer from the Apple website using a different web browser:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
If you use Firefox instead of IE for the download (or vice versa), do you get a working installer?

  • Have had to re-download Mozilla due to malware - final step of installation asks if I will allow unknown publisher to make changes to computer - click YES and get message my computer is infected with malware - click NO and cannot open Mozilla

Long story short, unwisely allowed unknown publisher to make changes to my computer (which I thought was related to my anti-virus protection) last night. In the process, seems I allowed malware (called antivirus8). Neither Explorer or Mozilla were available - seemed to have been wiped out by antivirus8 thing. Explorer came back up (with favorites still intact) after doing full scans and a few other things...but Mozilla did not. Uninstalled Mozilla and re-downloaded. Final step of installation asked if I wanted to allow an unknown publisher (and I'm sorry to say I don't remember exactly what it was...something with safe in the name, I think) to make changes to my computer. Clicked NO and still not able to access Mozilla...redid and clicked YES and immediately got message that my computer was infected with malware. Have used Mozilla for years...hate just having Explorer. Anti-virus program is Kaspersky...ran full scan and it did not detect a thing...so I really don't know what happened!

Try running several malware scanners to see if Kaspersky missed anything. It is best to run several as each will pick up things that the others miss. Some scanners you can try are:
    * [http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php Malwarebytes]
    * [http://www.superantispyware.com/ SUPERAntiSpyware]
    * [http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php Ad-Aware]
    * [http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/defender/default.mspx Windows Defender]
    * [http://www.safer-networking.org/en/home/index.html Spybot S&D]
If the above malware scanners do not find any malware or can not clear it, you should consider posting in one of these forums for specialized malware removal help:

  • Digital Signature/Unknown Publisher

So I was trying to download iTunes 10.5. The first time I did it a "digital signature" message popped up and then retarted the download, but it popped up again. I went on to this discussion board to find some help. Some discussions said to delete (remove) everything apple and restart the iTunes. I did this and now I am getting a message that says "unknown publisher" everytime I click the "run" button. I have tried to download this iTunes about 8-10 times in the past two days.
some discussions say to try Firefox, but I don't want to do that. My last resort is to call the tech support and ask them for help because last time this happened it took us about a couple of hours.
    Thanks in advance!

    How are you downloading iTunes?
Generally speaking it is best to download it from here:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Rather than using update. You need to save the file on your PC and run it from there.
If that doesn't work can your try another browser?
Also it might be worth restarting your router.

  • GoLive CS2 & Win7 - "Unknown Publisher"

This may be more of a Windows 7 issue than an Adobe/GoLive one...but I thought someone here might be able to help! Whenever I open GoLive CS2 in Windows 7, I get the User Account Control pop up window, asking me if  I want to allow the program "from an unknown publisher" to make changes to my computer. Is there any way to get this message to go away without lowering my User Account Control security setting? It's really annoying to see it pop up everytime I open GoLive!

Adobe started to digitally sign its apps in CS3 so any prior app can kick that warning about an unknown publisher.
A Google search leads to plenty of ways to minimize UAC warnings, all with various consequences.  I'm still experimenting myself.

  • AIR unknown publisher..

    Check this pic.
anyone know hwo to replace UNKNOWN" with my name?
I check ***-app.xml ,but cant find how to change. and alose the system access.
    thanks

    Hi,
You need to digitally sign your Adobe Air application. Inorder to remove the unknown publisher. There is nothing to do with the app-xml file or coding with that.
By digitally signing means you need to purchase a valid license certificate from recognized company's such as Verisign and Thawte etc;...
So that to show customers that your code and content(Application)  is safe to download
You can find more information on this checking the below links:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/air/articles/signing_air_applications_print.html
    http://www.verisign.com/code-signing/content-signing-certificates/adobe-air/index.html

  • Firwfox will not download using Windows vista - shows unknown publisher

The unknown publishers issue seems to hinge on an problem with the digital signature. The error message is as follows:
    Internet explorer security warning
Windows has found a problem with this file.
    Name: itunessetup.exe
    Publisher: unknown publisher
This file was blocked because it does not have a valid digital signature that verifies its publisher
The reason I was downloading Firefox in the first place was that I have this same issue when trying to dowwload i-tunes. One of the support groups suggested that downloading i-tunes through Firefox avoided this issue.
    Grateful for any ideas!

Are you downloading and saving the files to a folder on the computer?
Don't click the Run button in IE to run the program directly, but save the file to your hard drive.

  • Download itunes 10.3 - unknown publisher??

when i try to download itunes 10.3 I am getting a internet security warning pop-up screen that states Name: itunes64Setup.exe  Publisher: Unknown Publisher... then it goes on to say that 'this file has been blocked because it does not have a valid digital signature that verifies its publisher.'  How on earth could it be that Apple would not be up to date? any ideas as i reckon i have tried this 10 times now. I also tried to save the file and then open. that doesnt work either. I am set up as administrator so that isnt a problem i dont think....??

    Hi.
I was having the same problem. Have you rectified the issue since your post.
if not, are you connecting to the internet through a wireless router. if so you need to connect through a LAN and this will allow it to be installed.

  • Unknown Publisher error when trying to open forms screen

    Hi,
I log in as System Administrator to 11.5.9 Apps. When I try to open any form (eg conc requests), a pop window opens with message "The publisger could not be verified. Install oajinit.exe , Unknown Publisher"
How can I get rid of this?
    Thanks,
    Dnyanesh

Is it for just you or all users?
If it is only for your user, uninstall Jinitiator with add/remove programs and reinstall it by clicking on a forms link. If it does not install, goto http://hostname.domain:port/OA_HTML/oajinit.exe
If all users see it, your Jinitiator certificate needs to be resigned. You can run adjkey -initialize, and it would also be a good time to upgrade your jinitiator.
How to use, create and /or update Digital Certificates for Jinitiator in 11i Applications

Use adadmin to regenerate all JAR files, then uninstall the old Jinitiator on the PC with add/remove programs.
