Re: Applet JMF in a client without jmf installed
As a possible hack/workaround, are you including jmf.jar in the applet codebase ? It contains all the codecs necessary to decode the video stream. You might need to look at applet security too.
If this doesn't work, you need each client to install JMF.
You could try adding this codebase line to your applet/object tag in the applet's HTML.

JMF Applet without JMF installed on clients ? A solution ?
Hi all. I have compiled RTPPlayerApplet sample downloaded from Sun's web. After comment some "error" lines, I got it working on my client machine with JMF installed.
I have searched for this solution on forums, but didnt find how to solve this:
I want that clients only need to have installed JRE, and not JMF. I have read that it can be possible telling in the HTML of the applet that "loads" jmf.jar file, and some others...
I have tried it, and the applet loads without any error on my client machine without JMF installed, but it doesnt start to play...
Any suggestion ?
Does anyone got RTPPlayerApplet working on client machine without JMF installed ?
Thanks for your help
JohnI want that ... HTML code is placed).
I can understand your reasons for not wanting to bother clients with installing the JMF. However, please understand the negative side effect of this approach. If nine other organisations supply your client a JMF-based applet in the same way, the client would be downloading the same JMF jar ten times. Don't even think about patches and upgrades that would require JMF jar updates. If you rely on framework components, don't be shy with distributing the framework where needed.
And i think that also could be possible ... decrease the size of the file...
If you compile only the source code of the JMF classes you use or perhaps create a new jar file in which you copy only the JMF classes you've used, this should work. However, for reasons mentioned earlier, this is not quite as user-friendly as it may seem at first glance.
Think of the JMF as something like Microsoft DirectX. When you install a game that needs DirectX, it checks and -if necessary- installs a complete, new version of DirectX. -

JMF Applet without JMF installed
How can I run the JMF Applet without installing JMF on very client before?
I already tried to archive the jmf.jar and sound.jar and I found a code:
<object classid="clsid:8AD9C840-044E-11D1-B3E9-00805F499D93" width="100%" height="100%" codebase="http://java.sun.com/products/plugin/1.2.2/jinstall-1_2_2-win.cab#Version=1,2,2,0"></p>

<param name="java_codebase" value="browser/applet/">
<param name="java_archive" value="javamediaplayer.jar,jmf.jar">
<param name="type" value="application/x-java-applet;version=1.3">
<param name="FILE" value="myAudioFile.wav">
but I don't know how to use it!!!
PLEASE help me!!!!
THX!Hi
I wrote this code to play my JMF applet:
<applet
code=simpleplayerapplet.SimplePlayerApplet
ARCHIVE="jmf.jar,customizer.jar,mediaplayer.jar,multiplayer.jar,sound.jar"
width=320 height=300>
<param name=file value="musica.mp3">
</applet>
It works fine, and the applet starts normally. I have another kind of problem: what I want to play is an mp3. So I downloaded the Sun mp3 plg-in and installed it in my test machine, wich have JMF installed. The applet runs ok. But when I try to test in a machine without JMF (but with the Sun mp3 plug-in installed) i get the Unable to handle format: mpeglayer3 exception. I won't print the stack trace because is a common exception related with the plug-in. What am I doing wrong? I thought that the plug-in was necessary and sufficient for a client to play my test applet. -
Jmf applets without jmf installed?
i completed an application in which i can receive and broadcast audio and video over the lan/internet.
but i have a restriction now. this only works if the target computer has jmf installed in it.
I am actually developing an application which works like a live tv on the internet. but as i said, it is restricted only to the computer with jmf installed.
can others who dont have the jmf installed get the applets running? i heard that i can compress the class files in .jar format and send it. but i dont know the method. and i also dont know if its going to workout.
once again: if u go to my website, an applet loads and you have to watch my broadcast. i did the part but i am not able to integrate it into the pc's which dont have jmf installed.
any kind of idea would be greatly appreciated.
thanksAs I remember there were some topics exactly matches your (even a name).
You can just read them - they were answered.
RTFM.
Read forum below.
You cant run JMF without installing.
You can make a part of JMF to be "installed".

Signed applet, jmf.jar provided, but no connection
hi there!
i'm posting this again in order for you to earn duke-bucks.
i have a similar problem. i wrote an applet that connects to a video-streamserver an requests a live-stream. the applet sends some udp-packets to the server, which retreives the client's ip from the
packet and sends it back to the client ( i did this to avoid signing the applet, since otherwise the client
would have to do a dns-lookup and therefore be signed). the client gets back his public ip (i don't have the 127.0.0.1-problem) , however, i get an
InvalidSessionAddressException :
Local Data Address Does not belong to any of the local interfaces
it seems, the client cannot recognize it's own public ip.
so i thought, signing the applet would do, but it doesn't.
I get the same InvalidSessionAddressException.
now, this only happens on hosts on which jmf is NOT installed.
Installing the jmf solves the problem. but i don't want people who visit my page having to install
jmf in order to watch my livestream. i tried including the whole jmf.jar (also tried, customizing it),
but no success.
i read the posts on the issue: running jmf-applets on non-jmf-systems, but there seems to be a
controversy on wether that is possible or not. some say, jmf must be installed, some say, just include jmf.jar or customized jmf.jar.
what else could i try? i have the clients public ip and i have the applet signed. so, there shouldn't be
any restrictions anymore.
i have no ClassDefNotFoundExceptions, so i suppose, including jmf.jar works.
what else gets changed when i install jmf? there must be some restrictions that keep the vm from
determining the hosts public ip and which will be removed by the installation of jmf.
anyone had similar problems? and, perhaps, a solution to this?
thanks in advance,
honfrek
b.t.w. you can earn some duke-bucks too !hi!
i found a very elaborate solution here:
http://www.mutong.com/fischer/java/usbcam/VideoToAppletWithNoSupport.zip
this link has been posted before,
http://onesearch.sun.com/ClickThru?qt=servlets&url=http%3A%2F%2Fforum.java.sun.com%2Fthread.jsp%3Fforum%3D28%26thread%3D515345&pathInfo=%2Fsearch%2Fdevelopers%2Findex.jsp&hitNum=45&col=devforums
this solution uses jmf only on server side for capturing, then converts the capture-stream into images, splits
the images into smaller regions and evaluates the differences of these regions to the regions of the previous image. if the difference hits a certain threshold, these regions are transmitted to the applet. but the transmission is done via tcp, which slows things down.
the splitting -code is hard for me to understand, since i'm new to java. -

How do you make a jmf application run on a computer without jmf installed?!
I can create a jar with a program i made using jmf. It works on my comp, but i realized tht it doesn't work on others computers because they don't have jmf installed. How do i incorperate the jmf in my jar so that it can run on any comp whether or not they have jmf installed.
Please help me asap, i really need to get this done.
Thank YouSo here's some more info, Not only have i never used a mac before, I don't really know how to use one, and my girlfriend is at school pretty far away right now, shes not good with computers either. So i don't wanna have to resort to asking her to install jmf on her macbook. If i do have to do that i guess i could get her friend to help her out.
But i'd still rather get this problem fixed. How do i incorperate jmf with my program, so it runs on all computers. I checked the native folder in SipCommunicator 1 release 2 and 3, but its only one dll file called ShellLink.dll
I checked everywhere in both of the downloads and i couldn't find any other dlls.
I must be downloading the wrong thing....
I downloaded
SIP Communicator 1.0-alpha2 release: Generic installer for all OSs
and also
SIP Communicator 1.0-alpha3 nightly builds: Generic installer for all OSs, Java installation required
The reason i got the generic installer is because I have a vista, and i want to run this on a mac. I don't have or know any one living near me with a mac, so i need to be able to build it on my comp. -

Opening a text file in server from an applet running in the client
Friends,
I want to open a text file in the server(The server machine uses tomcat 4.1.12 server)from an applet running in the client machine;
The applet invokes a servlet that opens the text file;this text file is opened in the server machine; but I want it to be opened in the client machine where the applet is running.
Plese help me to get around this.You can open the textfile on the servlet and then send the information to the client (applet) as stirngs. The must then applet convert the stirngs into some object or simply display the information in someway. But then the text file that you are opening must be stored in some relevant tomcat directory e.g. on the server. If you want to open a file on the clients computer, you get into signed applets.

Manually set up the essbase 11 client (without using the fusion installer)
Hi All,
is it possible to install the Essbase 11 client without using the Fusion Installer?
I tryed to copy the "bin" and "locale" directory from an exisiting installation and set up the ARBORPATH environment variable - without success.
Did I miss anything? Maybe some Registry entries? Or isn't it possible to set up the essbase client manually?
Every answer would be appreciated.
Cheers,
MartinHi John,
thanks for the hint that the addin is also available for any version.
I have an application which uses the C-API (essapinu.dll, essotlnu.dll, ...) and I want to test it with diffrent Essbase Client Versions against diffrent Essbase Servers.
These are the (client) versions which I want to test:
EssbaseRtc11110WindowsFiles
EssbaseRtc11111WindowsFiles
EssbaseRtc11112WindowsFiles
EssbaseRtc11113WindowsFiles
EssbaseRtc9203WindowsFiles
EssbaseRtc9210WindowsFiles
EssbaseRtc9301WindowsFiles
EssbaseRtc9310WindowsFiles
I hoped it would be enough to replace some directorys on a machine instead of starting a lot of installers.
Cheers,

Direct connection between 2 clients without any configuration!
I wan to make a system act like hamachi or logmein (websever & clients).
I have a webserver on the internet and two client from different networks connected to this webserver, now i want to make directly connection between these clients without any configuration on router. I think it is possible because all infomation about clients network could be got from http request which they send to server. But i don't know what exact fields in the header of http request that i need and how to set them to create connection between clients. I need some ideas about this issue.

I know, so if you want to use a remote control tool such as: VNC, remote desktop you must config on router or server. But even if you had a proxy(permit port 80) when you type www.sun.com you will get data from it, this data was sent from Sun to your proxy and in some way the data was return to your browser. So i think if we have enough information(it come from the webserver) we could init a connection between 2 client. An example of this is Hamachi.
At first 2 hamachi clients connect to a server of hamachi, when they have their id, a tunnel between 2 clients was established without any configuration on proxy(certainly that server did not deny port of hamachi). From now 2 clients can exchange data not through the server. The same in logmein, you can remote desktop any where with zero configuration, but the speed is guarantee because they contact to server for query information, but the data was transmited directly. Sorry if i make mistake.It doesn't work the way you think.
There is a proxy or you have to have one side listening with a ServerSocket and have ports opened as needed. You can't create a Socket connection on server A between clients B and C and then pass it off to clients B and C and magically they just talk to each other.
It does not work that way. It is impossible to do it that way. -
How to handle thousands of clients without using Overlapped I/O?
Is there's a way that allows me to handle thousands of clients without using Overlapped I/O? Based on what I know select() can only handle 64 sockets, and it is not a good idea to increase this limit (by overriding FD_SETSIZE).

I don't have a problem in using Overlapped I/O, I just wanted to know if this is the only way to go.
Well, you could create thousands of threads, one per client, and use blocking sockets. Or you could use window-message based notifications - see WSAAsyncSelect. Or, you could poll with select(), a chunk of 64 at a time, with a short timeout. All of these
would work, though none would scale very well.
