RE:  Converting from png to bmp

Hi All
I'm using JAI to convert an image given to me from png to a bmp. However I keep getting
: Error: One factory fails for the operation "encode" and a huge list of areas where various errors have occured. It basically results in an empty bmp being written. Here's the code I'm using:
import javax.media.jai.JAI;
import javax.media.jai.RenderedOp;
import java.awt.image.RenderedImage;
import java.io.*;
public class PngToBmp
    private static void convPng(File theFile)
         String name = ((theFile.getName()).replace('.','_'))+".bmp";  //Setting bmp name
         RenderedImage pngImage = JAI.create("fileload", theFile.getPath());  //This is reading in the image
         RenderedOp op =  JAI.create("filestore", pngImage, "C:\\"+name, "BMP"); //This writes the image to the local disk
//This third line of code that is causing the problems - according to the errors produced.
}       I also have a main method in the class to call convPng. Any ideas as to what I've done wrong? I looked at the reading in and writing out website for JAI - that's where I constructed this code from. I've clearly not understood something though.
Thanks for any help in advance.

As no one replied I finally found the solution. I can't really explain why that code posted above doesn't work I guess it has something to do with the way the png is decoded. Anyway if you want to convert a png to a bmp here's the code to do it:
    public static void convPng(String source, String path)
        try
            OutputStream out = new FileOutputStream(path);
            RenderedOp image;
            image = JAI.create("fileload", source);
            image.getMaxX();
            JAI.create("encode", image, out, "bmp", null);
            out.close();
        catch(IOException err)
            System.out.println("!! Read/Encode Error !!");
    }The source string is the path of the png and path is where the bmp is to be saved out to.

    Also keep in mind that there are two definitions of bitmap. You want the 2-color version where each bit represents one color or the other. However, thanks to Microsoft, their bitmaps are really just uncompressed strings of RGB values, storing each pixel in multiple bits.

    Jpeg File format does not support vectors.  Photoshop has limited vector support and tools.  Photoshop can not save vector file formats like SVG.  What File type does your printer want?
    Adobe Illustrator is Adobe vector application.

  • Print images in PNG and BMP formats

    I have converted images from xwd to bmp by using JAI. now I want to print them.
    How can I print PNG and BMP Files? How can I read images in different formats and make them print.
    Please help me !

    JAI follows the Java 2D printing model. All you need to do is to read your PNG, BMP images as RenderedImage, Renderable, or BufferedImage objects. To print an image, draw the image object on the printer's graphics context using one of drawImage(), drawRenderedImage(), and drawRenderableImage() methods of the Graphics2D class.
    I have some sample code at http://www.geocities.com/larryhr/samplecode/samplecode.html. See the Printing section. JAIImagePrint.java should give you some indication as to how to print images read by the JAI codec.

  • Converting from indexed color to grayscale no longer works in CS4

    I have a number of files to convert from indexed colors to grayscale. Did some but clicked "don't show me again" box on the Discard Colors warning. Now I can't make the conversion. Everything looks fine, but when I close file, then reopen, it's reverted to indexed colors - restarting Photoshop or the computer doesn't help.
    I'd appreciate any help....Thanks, Grant

    Grant,

    I don't think you want additional junk mail, unsolicited phone call scams, and possible attempts to crack your website, do you?
    People here recommend not to post contact info. Perhaps a forum moderator can remove your personal info, but you might be able to edit your post yourself.
    GIF only uses indexed color mode, So if you want your files to NOT be in the Indexed Color mode you need to save them as another file format like .png or .jpg

  • Why are some text pages converted to png's?

    I'm sure this has been covered to death but why does this happen? Here are two pages:
    this one converted to png:
    http://web.mac.com/neoverse/iWeb/Josh_Mobley/Blog/78282A4A-E25D-4F67-94C7-1F20F3 3D6FB3.html
    and this one which is not:
    http://web.mac.com/neoverse/iWeb/Josh_Mobley/About%20Me.html
    now, at first I thought it was having a link in the text but I have other pages with links that don't convert to png.
    Thanks in advance for any advice.

    In iWeb are both text boxes "Arial?" Did you copy any text from anywhere or did you type it all in?
    One thing to try, create a text box, type "text" then publish to see if it comes up text. If it does, then try to determine the differences. In the case where you copied the text in, there may not be a clear difference but retyping seems to have solved the problem for other users.

  • Pacman: Pathname can't be converted from UTF-8 to current locale

    Hello Forum,
    I am stuck with a problem to which I cannot find any solution after spending half the day trying to solve it:
    I have a package wich I installed from AUR -> MyCustomRepository working nicely on my main Arch system. Now I would like to add the package to a livecd using the archiso scripts. When I add it to my packages.both list it downloads fine.
    However when installation into chroot should start pacman gives me the following error:
    (378/378) loading package files [######################] 100%
    error: error while reading package /var/cache/pacman/pkg/pd-extended-0.43.4-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz: Pathname can't be converted from UTF-8 to current locale.
    error: failed to commit transaction (libarchive error)
    Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.
    My System only uses en_US.UTF-8 as locale, so I don't really understand why any conversion should be neccesary.
    I read about a similar error somewhere with a reply stating it had  to do with packaging. No solution was given however. Can this be the case? And if yes, why do I not have any problems installling in my main system? And more importantly, how can I fix it? i don't really know where to look for the right way now.
    I already tried to include a different packages from AUR through my repository, which worked as expected.
    the package is pd-extended from AUR with a slight modification to make the .desktop file actually start pdextended.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,

    this looks alright to me. Any more suggestions?
    It's the first time I use a custom-repo and I set it up only for this purpose. So yes, it's up to date and can be used outside the chroot. Also a different package I put from AUR into my custom-repo installs fine and doesn't give this error.
    How else could I test the custom-repo?

  • Saving from bridge and converting from raw to jpeg

    why can I not convert from raw to jpeg in bridge (camera raw) and save to a location different from the  original

    Yep sure can.
    In bridge select your picture(s) then edit in camera raw.
    In camera raw look in the bottom left of the camera raw dialog box and you will see a save as button.
    This will allow you to save your raw files as jpg, tiff or pngs.

  • Converting a PNG to a Symbol Causes Instant Crash in CS4

    Every time I try to convert a PNG to a symbol, Flash CS4 instantly crashes. The PNG images are coming from LightWave 3D, but I've run them through Fireworks and saved with a new name to no avail. They aren't anything unusual, 480 x 270 pixels with alpha trnasparency. There was some discussion about removing fonts with red icons, did that, no help. Reset Preferences>Text>Font mapping default to Arial, no help. Flash 8 works fine.
    Could use a little help.
    Thanks!

    You should probably deactivate before uninstalling, but going back on the same machine you don't need to remove the serial number.
    Rename C:\Users\<USER>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\InDesign\<Version #>\<Language>\InDesign Defaults and C:\Users\<USER>\AppData\Local\Adobe\InDesign\<Version #>\<Language>\Caches\InDesign SavedData

    Hi SAP GURUS,

  • The bullet list, numbered list and the normal text is not converting when I am converting from RH 9 to MS Word 2010

    Hi all,
    Greetings for the day
    I am created a new CSS in Robohelp 9. I have also created a new template in Word 2010. The style sets for different information elements like (Heading, bullets, body text, ) are more or less same between the CSS and the new templates. I am also able to map the .css styles to Word template when I am converting from RH to Word as I am getting the necessary option in the drop-down list.
    However, when the output is generated, the bullet, the numbered list and the body text is not converting at all. The body text works sometimes. However, the numbered list and bullet list is coming out as images.
    If anybody knows the solution, I can share the .css and Word template.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Parag Deb

    Create a new project with two or three topics containing lists of both types. Generate a printed output that shows the problem. Then zip it up and send it to me. See the Contact page on my site for instructions.

  • How do I convert from pdf to word? I see an option to do so, however, when I click on it, Ia box opens...

    when I try to convert from pdf to word, a box opens and suggests I am to click on (select) the file I want to convert. It sounds all well but it does not work. I really really just want my files back in word, all of them, no matter, because after having to reinstall windows 7 (done by techs) and me having to re-download all my HP drivers, and tools, and other software, which I imagine included adobe reader, now I see some pdf files won't open. It says, "access denied" and boy that really makes me wantt o scream. I am the ONLY user, it is my notebook, I am the administrator so I can't figure out why some files open and some don't. I can't ascertain any difference.
    I would be grateful for any help. This has become just too exhausting. After reinstalling sooooooooo much, then to have to go through this with what is a free application? I say I think not.
    This should NEVER happen with any free application and boy there is NO help to be found. They blow you off the phone fast telling you it's a free application. Then why are you putting in this kind of  stuff that it won't open? This is NOT a shared notebook, it's mine. I am the only user, personal use.
    HP probook, if anyone needs that info.
    Please, will someone help?
    I would be so grateful.
    thanks,
    Gina

    Gee, Pat, this is a  real big help.
    Nobody could possibly think anyone would ask for help without first trying to fix the issue oneself. Or maybe you do. I have opened the file and looked under security. I have changed it to owner-notebook (which is what the techs called me) and clicked accept but geepers it didn't work.
    Maybe someone else has an idea.
    Take Ownership of a File or Folder
    The above should be a link. At least I copied and pasted the link. I did what was stated in there. It isn't like brain surgery. But it is not working. I ended up being able to open some pdf files after transferring them from one partition category to another. I wish it was that easy as you seem to think.
    Thanks for the help. Have a great year.
