Re-Installing SharePoint Foundation 2010 - Product Configuration Wizard Error

So i recently had to start fresh on my SharePoint development server. My database was left remaining on a different server during this process.
So after re-installing SharePoint 2010, I told it to connect to an existing server farm, and then put my database server name in, from which it was able to retrieve the database name. After this step though i ran into my problems... For some reason it is
saying i don't have the appropriate software installed to finish the Configuration Wizard, when i know i have it.
What can I do to fix this problem?

Hi Zipatones,
Honestly, it is difficult to diagnose the cause of your issue since there could be several reasons. The best I can do is give you several options one of which might be the solution.
1) During the configuration I would let SharePoint setup a new Config database. Then setup a new web application with the same URL as your original one. Instead of creating a site collection, detach that database and attach your original database.
2) Do the same for the service applications. Setup new service applications and then detach and attach the original databases. I highly recommend you use powershell for service apps since you need to find the guids of both the application and its proxy.
3) You need to make sure that the new SharePoint app server has the same version of updates (such as hotfixes) installed on your previous farm.
Hope these recommendations help.

    Hi Jose,
When server 2012 will not allow pre-requisite to run, due to the ASP.NET 3.5 or 4.5, do this:
    Run, from admin command prompt:
    Dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFx3 /All /Source:<drive>:\sources\sxs /LimitAccess

    hello,
I am integrating sql server and sharepoint foundation 2010 server both are installed in different pc,
First i have installed sql server in  machine 1 ,
second i installed sharepoint foundation 2010 in machine 2

third i installed sharepoint foundation 2010 in
machine 1 for minimal installation with complete mode,
    and integrated ssrs.
    Its working fine.
But i need to know whether we can install sharepoint foundation 2010 standalone mode in
machine 1 which is a sql server.
I hope this topic might be help full to many people's.
    thanks
    regards
    krishnakumar

    Hi krishnakumar,
    The Short Answer: YES
The Long Answer: The report server instance cannot use the SQL Server Express Edition for its database. However, the SQL Server Express Edition instance that is installed by the SharePoint product or technology can exist side-by-side with other Database
Engine editions that you might also install. For more information about edition requirements for the report server database, see
    Creating a Report Server Database.

  • SharePoint Foundation 2010 Workspace problem

I've installed sharepoint foundation 2010 in a Windows server 2008 R2 standard environment. I've added some site collections and added some libraries to the site pages. Ive put in various permissions and groups and tested no problem using
Sharepoint workspace 2010 on a Windows 7 32 bit client.
But when I do a remote desktop connection to another server with 2008 R2 standard installed I can't get Sharepoint workspace 2010 to work properly. It opens an account and connects to my sharepont site but in the pane to the right where I would normally
see library documents listed all that comes up is an error stating - Error: Cannot Display Tool.
Also if I try to sync I get the following error:-
    The parameter is incorrect
    HResult: 0x80070057 (0x386d7565)
    Process: Groove.exe (ID:17936(0x00004610))
No amount of googling has found a solution, no similar postings had any resolutions.
Any help would be much appreciated

My apologies. I'd focused on the error and hadn't adequately read the information you provided on the environment. The issue is probably with using SharePoint Workspace on the remote computer, not with SharePoint Foundation.
Here is what I understand you to be doing:
You use Remote Desktop to connect to the Windows Server 2008 R2 computer, where you log in with your domain account, which is a member of the local Users group.
On the remote computer, you start SharePoint Workspace.
On the Launchbar, you click New, click SharePoint Workspace, select your site, and then click
    OK.
The workspace is created and appears (from the progress bar) to download content.
When you click Open Workspace, no content is displayed. Instead, you see the "Cannot Display Tool" error.
    Is that correct?
There are three areas where SharePoint Workspace is complicated to run remotely:
Where SharePoint Workspace will be run by a user other than the one installing it, it must not be lauched during the installation. This seems the most likely to be the issue, as we have seen the same failure and error at a customer site where several
users had been given a computer image created on a computer where SharePoint Workspace had been launched before image creation.
Only one user should run SharePoint Workspace (Groove.exe) at a time. (Sometimes multiple instances work, but it's not reliable.)
You need to have a local profile on the computer which is running SharePoint Workspace. SharePoint Workspace is not supported with Roaming or Temporary profiles. Usually, this problem would prevent you from starting SharePoint Workspace, but some
environments with custom permissions can lead to other errors.
SharePoint Workspace uses the current user's permissions for SharePoint server access, In the case of Forms-Based authentication, it prompts for credentials at workspace creation, but then uses the credentials in the active browser session when opening
the workspace. I think this could only be related to your problem if you are logged in as another user in your browser, and that user has access to some, but not all, of the site your workspace connects to.

  • SharePoint Foundation 2010 maximum size WID

    Hi,
I've installed SharePoint Foundation 2010 using the Windows Internal Database. I'm a bit confused about the maximum size of the database. On several websites I read that the max size for an SQL express database is 4GB.
Is this the same as the Windows Internal Database? Or can it grow bigger?

Are you sure you mean the Windows Internal Database? The SharePoint foundation installer will install SQL Server Express edition.

  • Can not access Central Administration in SharePoint Foundation 2010

    Hi,
I have installed SharePoint foundation 2010 in Windows 7 machine. I can able to login into Central Administration. I can view Main page. But I can not enter into even any one setting. If i click any link i am getting login page again and I entered same Username
and Pwd. its asking again and again .
For example if i click Manage "Web application" link the login page comes again and its not getting my Username and Password. Some times its showing Access Denied Error.

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you still got the login prompts in the Central Administration.
You can use the following steps, then check whether it works.
Open Internet Explore. Go to  Internet Options -> Security -> Local Intranet -> Sites -> Advanced ,and add your central admin url.
    You can also disable the
    loopbackcheck as below.
Click Start,      click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
In Registry Editor,      locate and then click the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa
Right-click Lsa,      point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
Type DisableLoopbackCheck,      and then press ENTER.
Right-click DisableLoopbackCheck,      and then click Modify.
In the Value      data box, type 1, and then click OK.
Quit Registry Editor,      and then restart your computer.
    For more information: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896861
In addition, you need to enable automatically login on Internet Explorer if you use NTLM authentication.
For the full conditions must be met for Internet Explorer to automatically authenticate a user's logon and password and maintain security, see

  • Is it possible to install Sharepoint Foundation 2013 in a Windows 8 Pro box for development purposes?

I remember an article explaining how to install SharePoint Foundation 2010 in a Windows 7 box which was prone to some errors but however a great article (http://blogsp.idea80.com/2010/02/instalacion-de-sharepoint-2010-sobre.html).
I wander if it would be posible to install 2013 in a Windows 8 pro box.
I want to try the SharePoint features in Visual Studio but I dont really want to go through the whole installation process for SharePoint in a server. I am not interested in ADS integration or anything else, just basic functionality to develop some basic
    add ons in Silverlight.
Any help would be greately appreciated.
    thanks!

No, it's not possible to do that anymore, it has to be run on Windows Server 2008 R2 or 2012, and I would totally recommend the latter, it seems to perform much better. But what you can do is this, and its what I'm doing, run a virtual machine on Windows
8 running Windows Server 2012 and install SharePoint 2013 there. Works like a charm.

  • SharePoint Foundation 2010, hotfix install fail "An error occurred while running detection"

    Hi all,
I am having a lot of trouble installing hotfix 2849990 on my server. After running it shows the error "An error occurred while running detection". I tried another hotfix as well but got the same result. I read on the web to do a "repair"
but I cannot seem to access that. I attempting to run the install to get there, I click "Install SharePoint Foundation" a new window begins and I can see a new window open that reads "Please wait while setup prepares the necessarily files"

  • SharePoint Products Configuration Wizard - Configuration Failed at step 10 of 10

A little background information.  I am simply trying to create a SharePoint Server on my laptop.  I utilized the Microsoft Hyper-V Manager
to create a Virtual Machine of which I have Windows Server 2012 R2 running.  I have installed the SharePoint prerequisites via some power shell scripts that all seemed to have worked and I believe i even updated the server with all updates to date.  <o:p></o:p>
    <o:p> </o:p>
However, when I run the SharePoint Products Configuration i get a failure at step 10 of 10.  I am a SharePoint developer and power user not an
administrator for Windows Server.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.    <o:p></o:p>

  • Sharepoint Foundation 2010 install fails on Windows 2012 R2 server

Microsoft kb article at https://support.microsoft.com/kb/2724471/ is saying we need to use the Sharepoint install CD that includes SP2 in order for installation to succeed.  Where can we download Sharepoint Foundation 2010 SP2 slipstream install image
so that we can be compatible with install on a Win2012 R2 server?  Can you provide a link.   Technet download page only has the Sharepoint install and the SP2 install separately.   Thank you.

You can download it from here:

  • License Question for SharePoint Foundation 2010

I have a question as it regards to the user agreement for SharePoint Foundation 2010.
When I deploy code to the front-end of the Foundation service which directly modifies the code on the front-end to make the system do anything different out of the box, does this mean I have violated the code agreement.
For instance, using JQuery to manipulate the look and feel of a form, use third party tools like SPServices, attach SharePoint Designer workflows, modify the server end by using STSADM command line to turn features on and off, create and deploy site
collection features using Visual Studio, or create web parts?
Also, if I am using this software for business purposes of any kind, does it mean I need to purchase the software?
I have received a copy of Share Foundation along with a Server 2008 R2 OS which was purchased.
IF I use Foundation to run my business processes, am I in violation of the user agreement and do I need to purchase SharePoint Server 2010 with CALs?

The official answer: "I'm not a licensing person. Please contact Microsoft."
    In general:
Foundation is a "free" download, but can only be installed on Windows Server. You can install Foundation 2010 on Windows 7, but only for testing/development, not as a production server.
Foundation is "free" in that it is licensed as part of the Windows Server it is installed on.
If you have 500 users, then Windows Server will need to be licensed for 500 users. The Windows Server licensing will also depend on if the users are internal or on the internet.
SQL Server: If you are using SQL Express, then no license costs, but the number of SharePoint users may impact the licensing costs of your SQL Server.
The choice between Foundation vs. Standard or Enterprise is the list of features needed and scalability (how many users?).
"JQuery, SPServices, SharePoint Designer workflows, STSADM, Visual Studio..."
None of those will impact your licensing. Anything that you do to directly query or manipulate the SQL tables will impact your support. SharePoint is a platform and you are expected to configure and customize it.
