Re: is it possible to program with Sockets with the Internet as a network.

I am working with socket programming.
During the Christams holidays I will need to do some programming at home.
Is it possible to program with sockets on a home PC using Windows with only the Internet as a network?

yes it is
I am also working on an application that uses sockets at the moment, and I asked help a lot by these days ;)
Maybe I can help you from what I've learned..
here is a basic:
create server socket:
ServerSocket server = new ServerSocket(4444);
4444 is the port on which the socket is listening
Socket socket = new Socket("127.0.0.1",4444);
127.0.0.1 is a local IP adress to connect to and 4444 is the port number to connect to. That considers that the server and the connecting client are both on the same PC, but then you can use other IPs ;)
Hope it helps

  • My mac connects to the Internet fine, but Sarfari, chrome, and Firefox will not work. Nor will programs that connect to the internet

This problem has been going on for a few days. my computer connects to the internet fine and runs fine, but none of my Internet browsers will work. I have deleted all my history, cache, cookies etc. For all browsers. I have also made sure that i have no proxies on and that no firewall is blocking my Internet. I have ran virus scans to look for malware and nothing comes up... I'm very confused.
For chrome I get errors like "err_socket_not_connected", "err_connection_closed", and "err_empty_response"
for safari it just says "safari can't open the page because safari can't establish a secure connection to the server"
please help me if you know anything! Thank you in advanced

    Hi, mattkaroni.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand that you are unable to use internet on any program that connects to the internet.  This sounds like the issue would be with your internet connection.  Try going through the troubleshooting steps in the article below.

I do have wifi connection but no internet, how is this possible? I logged in to the internet at my friends place and when I got home my own internet was not working anymore

This is possible to be connected to WiFi but not internet.
You connect to your modem/router via WiFi and whether it is connected to the internet or configured properly to route the internet to WiFi devices is a different story.
Now if you've already reset your WiFi (try disabling and enabling) and perhaps even restarting your MBP
Then make sure that your modem/router is connected to the internet.
You can try any other device, lights on the modem/router or use Eth cable to test.
    Report back your findings.

  • Working with sockets with applets

Hello, I am working in my account on a web server, and I am trying to develop a chat using applets. My program works great on the command line, but the applets cannot create a socket because of a SocketPermission problem. I have read about this problem a lot, and I found that applets will only create a socket with the server the applet originates from. I have still not had any success in allowing my applet to create a socket to connect to a server.
I would appreciate any advice concerning this problem!
    Thanks so much!
    Christina

If you are calling the HTML page containing the Applet as http://localhost then the Applet has to open a socket back to local host.
Make sure you call the applet using the full ip address of the where the web server is running. This should match the socket ip address you are trying to open inside the Applet.

  • Help with scheduling a program to record from the internet

Recently, I received a message on my tv about a new feature for scheduling programs to be recorded from the internet.  So now I'm wondering how you do it.  Which website do you go to?  I've been to verizon.com and verizon.central.net and did not see anything for it.  I have also called customer service but they are having "issues" with their systems.  Can somebody please help?
All I am trying to do is schedule a program to record at home from my desk at work...
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You should be able to do it from here: http://www36.verizon.com/fiostv/web/Default.aspx. However, remember you must have the Home Media DVR to be able to use it.

  • Is it possible to connect an iMac to the internet but not to the network?

    Hello,
I volunteered to purchase an iMac for our company. This huge company maintains a huge windows-only network environment and IT does not support any macs (nor do they want to have them on the network).
Hence, since we really need this machine to be a mac and not a PC I had to promise to set it up as a stand-alone machine and to get anti-virus protection (as users will be coming in with their jump drives etc). At least for the latter reason (regular updates of virus definitions must be possible) we'd like to have it connected to the internet.
How would I escape the dilemma that as soon as I'd hook it up via ethernet, it would of course get internet but at the same time would see all other machines on the network? (it will sure do so as I had tried it out with some other machine running on the same OS)
Is there a way to configure Snow Leopard to allow for internet but not network access?
Does it make sense at all (for security reasons that is)?
    thank you very much,
    HD

Is there a way to configure Snow Leopard to allow for internet but not network access?
Well, 'internet' is 'network access' so at one level your question makes no sense.
If, on the other hand, what you want to do is segregate your Mac from the other machines then that's a different issue. There are numerous ways of doing that, but most would involve some level of interaction with the network administrators. Given their ana^H^H^H attitude towards Macs that may be an issue.
The best way would be to setup a separate VLAN for the Mac. This will create a separate logical network within the company network with only this Mac and the network router in it. No PC would see the Mac, and the Mac wouldn't be scarred by seeing all those PCs. This cannot be done without buy-in from the network admins, though.
A step down from that would be to use one PC in the network as a gateway to the rest of the network. The Mac would talk to this PC, and the PC would pass the data out to the rest of the network. This would require admin rights on the PC, though, which you may or may not have (I've seen a lot of corporate networks… :: shudder ::)
The last option would be to setup an entirely separate internet connection for the Mac but there are logistical issues there, too.
My advice: Buy a dozen Krispy Kremes for the network guys and sweet talk them into building you a VLAN.

  • Bought a new iPhone 4S which I cannot connect to the internet, mobile data network activation is not possible!

I recently bought a new iPhone 4S in Singapore and found out that I cannot connect the iPhone to the internet over my mobile 3G connection.
The telephone function is working fine as well as wifi; just connecting to the internet through my simcard is not possible.
I hav another existing iPhone 4S, and in this iPhone the mobile internet connection 3G is working perfectly!
I discoverd 1 difference between the two iPhones:
On the new iPhone if I look at
Settings / General / About / Carrier : the text "Orange UK 13.0" is displayed
On my existing it says: "T-Mobile Nl 13.1

Sorry, but I think you were ripped off.  There is no way a "new" iphone came out of the box provisioned for a carrier in a completely foreign network and country.  And Orange phones are sold locked to Orange, so if it is working with your T-Mobile SIM, it has to have been hacked.  That would be like me here buying a new iPhone and discoverying it was showing some carrier in Austrlia - just completely beyond reasonable explanation.
If you try and restore, I'd bet money it relocks to Orange and won't accept your SIM at all.
You can try wiping out all network settings and setting things up fresh (maybe do that with the SIM out, then see if it reads the settings correctly from the SIM).

  • Qosmio X505-Q892 - Some programs can't access the Internet

As the title states I have a Qosmio X505-Q892.
Confusion is I can log on Mozilla Firefox/IE and even play MMO RPGs just fine as well as log in Ventrilo and Skype however when I go to use any other program such as Windows Live Messenger, or download and install new programs/updates such as the NET.Framework v4.0 or even an older version of Windows Live Messenger or try to use Hyperlinks in an installed version of Microsoft Excel 2010, I get an error message saying I'm not connected to the Internet when I clearly am.
Have gone through CMD and typed in ipconfig /release waited 60 seconds and type in ipconfig /renew and tried installing/logging in to above programs and get the same error message. Everything else works just fine otherwise I wouldn't be able to type out this question. Now I'm honestly not sure where to start looking for any information or if this is just a coincidence that 3 or 4 different programs keep telling me I'm not connected to the internet when I clearly am, so by process of elimination or whatever you want to call it I decided this would be my best bet on a place to look for some sort of help on this subject.
In case there is any other curiosities as I know it does have an impact on what will and won't and changes troubleshooting techniques, so I have a Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1, the connection I use is strong enough to support 5 laptop computers, an Xbox360 and PS3 all at the same time as well as never having any connection issues unless there is a thunderstorm.
Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated as this is apparently beyond anything I can fix on my own.

I don't think the programs are blocked with the firewall as they used to work just fine in the past and I've never changed any settings, I do use the preinstalled OS from Toshiba as well. I noticed this issue about 2~3 weeks ago when I received an Excel sheet from my roommate who uses the exact same type of computer and tried to finish up the work he had started on it which was simply a single sheet and adding more hyperlinks to it. When we moved it back to his computer it worked just fine, but on my computer it wouldn't work. I've asked a few of my friends I know online with other forums and on an MMO RPG I play and have yet to find anyone who has ever heard of my problem happening in the past before either, so I'm wondering if the only way to really fix it is to do a system rollback or restore and start it over again? Although I still don't think that it will completely fix the issue if at all...

  • Some Programs Cannot Connect to the Internet

I don't know why but I can get the internet working fine with everything accept a couple programs, namely Steam for mac, and Limewire. For some reason these programs are not being allowed access to the internet. I have no firewall setup and no antivirus programs that could block the connection. I actually just bought this computer thinking that the problem was a result of a glitch in my old computer, but alas it is not. Maybe it has to do with my airport extreme? Thoughts?

Well I figured out the problem was that there was a program blocking there connections. I didn't know that peer guardian is still working in the background even after you close the application. Problem solved, thanks for the help.

  • Is it possible to access my DVR from the Internet using an Airport Express and Airport Extreme?

I would like to use my Airport Express to connect to my DVR and use it to access the Internet by setting it up to wireless extend my Airport Extreme network?
This would allow me great flexibility to place the DVR wherever I wanted.  I would create a static IP address for the DVR but would I also have to create one for the Airport Express as well?  What would I put as my Gateway address?  Would it be the IP address of the Airport Extreme or the Airport Express?
Looking forward to the advice to see if this is possible...

It may not be compatible with the iPad. See below for reference.
    H.264 video up to 1080p, 30 frames per second, High Profile level 4.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats;
    MPEG-4 video up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats;

  • How to share videos with family over the internet

I have a ton of home videos that I have edited with Final Cut and I would like to find a way to share those with family and friends across the country. Is there any way to do this in the Apple ecosystem. If not, what do most recommend as the best way to do this? Thanks

Thanks for the reply... I'm actually looking for something that would allow me to have all the content available in a library so friends and family can see all the content and then choose what to watch. Ideally, it would be like iTunes or iPhoto only that it could be accessed by multiple people from all over the internet. I think Apple is missing a huge niche in this area.

  • Encoding audio files with QT for the internet

    Hi group,
I would like to put my showreel up on the net in a QTime format BUT make it locked, or non-downloadable...
Is this possible?, it seems with QTpro you can download anything!
    thanks
    JM

You could use a "streaming server" and free Apple software that would play your file using RTSP instead of HTTP. These files are not cached (saved) on the viewing machine.
If someone wants to keep your file they'll find a way to save it. Let them download but keep them from editing your file. As easy as drag and drop using AppleScript.
