Lenovo P780 suddenly rarely has signal

Hi! First of all, I read a lot of threads in this forum and no, those didn't help me.
I bought a Lenovo P780 in February, ROW version (if I remember ROW123 4GB), imei starts with 860. I installed a custom rom (I checked and it is for this ROW) and it worked fine. One day in May I noticed that I got no signal. Then it came back. Than it went away. It is still the problem of course.
I never dropped nor flooded the phone. I tried installing other GSM modems as people on forums suggested, I tried a lot but none of them worked. I was angry so I took it apart, and saw that the outer shell of the antenna cable was damaged, so I ordered a new one, but it didn't help. I checked the whole PCB under a magnifying glass so maybe I would find any sign of damage so then I can replace the faulty component (I have access to do that), but I found nothing.
I tried it with different SIM cards. Then I found out, that in the Settings menu in the about phone section you can see the exact signal strength (it usually says 0dBm 99 asu which is absurd). You can only access it when you have a SIM card in the device but when you are in, you can take it out and you can still see the signal strength. It sometimes finds signal, but it is very rare.
What should I do? I have no money to replace the motherboard, and of course I have no warranty. Is there a chance that my problem is software-based, or it is surely hardware stuff? What can I do?

I have the same problem. Have you found any solutions?
Both sims had full signal (cosmote and vodafone) and everything worked fine.
Suddenly one day none had signal. If I only leave one sim in the phone sometimes it has full signal, but most of the time low or no signal.
ANything would help. Thank you.

Lenovo p780 internet connectivity problem with whatsapp

Two days ago I got Lenovo P780 mobile in india.
my model number is P780_ROW
android : 4.2.1
baseband version : P780.V20
BUILD NUMBER 780_8G_ROW_S118_130816
I have 2g mobile connection from vodafone. I can see it is connected to internet, am able to login in google play store, facebook but when I start whatsapp, it just cant connect to network?
What can be problem? Shall I upgrade my firmware?

Anuj, so you are saying that I am able to browse net and do other stuff on the internet and still my APN settings are not correct?
What you suggested is for Vodafone. What about Airtel? Kindly confirm. Thank you.

Hello again. Just to let you know I have solved the problem. Backed up my new phone. Then wiped all settings and everything off it to start again. When it relaunches it gives you the option to download from Icloud and you can pick from which back-up date you want to download it from. Picked the one from the day before it got trashed and HEY PRESTO, we have all the pictures and videos back!!! Iphone 0 - 1 Voodooboy78

Irritating bugs in Lenovo P780

I have a 8GB Lenovo P780 phone model no P780_ROW and Android 4.2.1 build no P780_8G_ROW_S123_131231. I am happy overall with my purchase but there are a few irritiating bugs.
Calendar is buggy. I have synced my calendar to three accounts and the stock calendar shows wrong time compared to the desktop. Also the ToDo alert gives alert at wrong times ex: i get an alert at 6 AM for an event scheduled at 8:30 with alert time set to 15 mins. And the events are not sorted by time and hence very difficult to understand
The stock email app does not mark Office 365 exchange emails as read when i read them on the device
Any thing i can do short of using alternate apps?

Hi. my p780 is running on 4.4.2 KitKat build p780_ROW-S227_141121. I do not get email repeat alerts - it sounds only once for an incoming mail and then is silent for any number of mails until I open the mail box. Then the next mail is alerted and subsequent are silent. Maddeningly, I miss out on mails leading to embarassment as this is also my official mail device. Anyone has a solution to this?

[Q]Problem with Bluetooth connection between Xiaomi Mi Band and Lenovo P780.

I bought Mi Band to my Lenovo P780 and I have connection problem. I have paired both devices and everything works well but 10-20 times a day connection is lost. And after I open Mi Fit, app try to connect with phone and do a sync but it can't (long time: "Connecting... Getting info from your band" and after: "Couldn't connect, pull down to retry."). Only after turning Bluetooth off/on app can connect to phone and do syncing. This is very annoying. Always after night the connection between Mi Band and phone is broken. What can I do about this problem? I need have a real-time notifications on Mi Band so I need have stable connection between phone and band all the time.
I have Lenovo P780 on 4.4.3 and Xiaomi Mi Band on firmware 1.0.9.0 + Tweaked Mi Fit with notify 1.2.922. But I tried also previous versions of Mi Fit - always the same result. And I tried on Nexus5 rom final, official Lenovo KK rom vibe, Alice Project 7.5 and Alice Project 8.0 roms - always the same result.
I tried on 2 other phones and bracelete isn’t broken. Everything is ok – stable connection.
Problem is in Lenovo. What should I do?

I have a better experience as my microsoft sculpt touch mouse now works fine - before it was always disconnecting.
Otherwise I have noticed the following with this new update:
- you have to update the bios version too to maximise the improvement
- regarding the special settings of my card, and after lots of test, my best setting is :
Antenna diversity type : 3 (before upgrade of bios, i had no wifi with 3 as value) - it seems it gaves me a slight enhancement
Bandwith: 20_40
Selective suspend : enabled (disabled doesn't change anything)
Selective suspend timeout: 30 (more doesn't change)
Wifi-config: wifi (that's the real trick, if set to Performance, the drop in performance is impressive)
in the meanwhile i was typing that i experienced a slight bluetooth connexion drop... less than before, but it's not totally fixed.
i think alas that the choice of the wifi card is just very bad. I ordered back in 2008 a profesional Dell laptop with a wifi n 2x2 450Mbits minipci. I expected that in 2012-13, an ultrabook without lan connexion and a ssd would at least provide a 2x2 (dual band) 300 Mbits wifi n... but here it's just the cheapest wifi n single band + bluetooth bundle which has been put. The worst is that's an economy of maybe 20€ which is ridiculous on a >1000€ machine.
Once the guarantee has passed, i think i'll upgrade my machine with a decent minipci wifi card and that's all. At least it seems that the dismounting of the Yoga 13 is quite well documented.

If the test fails, be sure to write down the exact message associated with the failure.In some cases, RAM problems did not show up until nearly 40 loops, so give it a good run.

Lenovo P780 - Sim Card Issue

Hi,  I bought the lenovo P780 2 months back.  Suddenly, It is not able to detect any of my sim cards though the sim cards are active. Cant send any messages, make any calls. Says Emergency calls only.  Please suggest a solution.

Same issue was faced by me 4 months back in Dec'14, as my phone was in warranty hence fixes came free, but now from past month I am again facing the same problem but this time warranty had expired. I observed that both the time there was a screw near SIM which went loose. This is pathetic service and is very disappointing, can anybody guide if there is any way to raise issue with Lenovo.deepak123 wrote:

Issue with Microsoft Exchange Setup - Lenovo P780

Dear Lenovo Team,
I am setting up my office email address in my Lenovo P780.
I am recieiving mails properly and i have kept ON the option to sync Contacts, calender and Mails.
however, whenever i am doing a lookup from the office exchange server, it is showing the name only and not clicking on the name to see the details like phone number or email. I am unable to remote lookup a contact from my global directory.

Lenovo P780 Kitkat 4.4.2 upgrade: Post problems and changes

1. New security system ( neither can be uninstalled nor disabled) actually speaking it is annoying to me. Now a days it is asking for Money Rs.53 for 30 days.

SecureIT is a completely free app.
The problem you are describing(virus database upgrade fee) is usually related with improper SU binary installation (rooted device loosing root access>CWM/TWRP re-rooting).That's why I asked about root access.In that case the solution was to uninstall and reinstall the app (ROOT needed).
The funny thing is that if you want to remove it you have to root the phone.

Important:If you remove SecureIT you won't be able to install future OTA updates.Suggest ''freezing'' it (ROOT needed).

Coming Soon - New Forum Ranks

When we first launched the Lenovo Community just over two years ago, our focus was to have a clean and attractive design, and an easy to understand board structure that aligned with our product line.    We understood the need for ranks as a way to distinguish relative roles within the community and to recognize the developing reputations and contributions of our members and started with a fairly simple set of ranks that most considered time spent in the forum, volume of postings, and how much reading a member did.
Over time, new features like Accepted Solutions and Kudos have been added which help the community keep up with those members who are solving the issues and concerns for fellow members, and who are being recognized via Kudos for making quality contributions to the discussion.   While the leaderboards reflect some of the top contributors in these areas, these considerations have not been reflected in the ranking system.
As there are many different ways to contribute in the community - whether by being an active discussion participant, a proven problem solver, or just taking the time to read, learn, and recognize others via kudos it is important that a members rank, and reputation in the community reflect this. We need to ensure that members can grow and develop in their own unique styles and that the community is appropriately recognizing these contributions.
So, we are planning some changes - an overhaul of the existing rank structure to take more of these factors into consideration.  Why is this important?   The rank structure is an important part of the reputation engine - the ability for the community to recognize and reward members who constructively contribute in a number of ways over time, by extending new permissions, more access, and greater ability to help shape the community.
We are tentatively planning this change for February and will update the community here before the change is made.   Members will see their rank name change and in some cases may have some new permissions, but won't lose anything. All solutions, kudos, etc will remain.   We are presently considering a computing motif for the rank names to interject a bit of fun.
We'd love to hear your thoughts...

1) Disconnect the Battery & Power Adapter from the Notebook hold the power button for 30 seconds then power on the unit have it checked.
2) Go to device manager and uninstall the driver and restart and unit will install the driver automatically.
3) Try doing System restore to the date when the unit was working fine.
4)Try to update the driver from hp.com website.
