Re: Linking .jsp input fields to JSPBeans

You can accomplish what you want by passing parameters to the Servlet like the following.
<input type =text title=""name="refcode" value= "" size= "20" class= "textbox" maxlength= "18" >Then on your servlet, the value corresponding to the refcode will be at a parameter called "refcode"(the name of the parameters will be the same name you give to your fields on the jsp page. So gessing the name of the other fields on your jsp page the pice of your doPost method from your servlet posted below should be like:
String strRefCode = request.getParameter("refcode");
String strAuthCode = request.getParameter("authcode");
String strCostCode = request.getParameter("costcode");Be sure that your are informing your servlet name on the action parameter of the form tag on the jsp page so that the above may really work.
Hope I have made sense.
Thank you,

Hi There,
As it turns out, my boss (who sent me on this wild goose chase) doesn't know all that much about Java either.
He had suggested that there was a method similiar to the process in VC++ where you can link an input field to a class member, and let the framework handle all the data updating and processing. (I'm sure there is something similiar in Java application programming)
As it turns out, there isn't, as I'm sure everyone here is aware. Once I stopped being distracted by trying to find something that wasn't there, I found that there is some fairly obscure code in our application that does use getParameter calls to pull out the information.
To summarise: My boss and I are both idiots, and don't know what we're talking about when it comes to Java.
Thanks for your help though!!
Cheers,
Riv

  • JSP input fields  to be stored in an array or vector

    Hi:
    If I have '20' fields on a 'struts' form and I want each of those fields to be stored as elements of an array 'myArray'. How would you do it? Will the following works with reference to each element of the array?
    <tr>
    <td><html:text name="TestFormBean" property="myArray[0]" size="20"/></td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
    <td><html:text name="TestFormBean" property="myArray[1]" size="20"/></td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
    <td><html:text name="TestFormBean" property="myArray[2]" size="20"/></td>
    </tr>
    etc. etc.
    Thanks in advance!

    There's a customtag,iterator,which is to repeat every element of an collection.You'd better implement your form by this way since it's just provided by struts.:)

  • How to link label with an input field in data table?

    I am curious if there is a nice way to link a label to input field in a data table directly in JSP? Data filling the table are dynamically bounded.
    Sample, simplified code below. Values of "label" property are unique in the collection binded to dataTable.
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <jsp:root version="1.2" xmlns:f="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core"
         xmlns:h="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html"
         xmlns:jsp="http://java.sun.com/JSP/Page">
         <jsp:directive.page contentType="text/html;charset=UTF-8" pageEncoding="UTF-8" />
         <f:view>
              <html>
              <body>
              <h:dataTable value="#{screen$monitoring$errorlog$CorrectHopper.dataset}" var="DATA_ROW">
                   <h:column>
                        <f:facet name="header">
                             <h:outputText value="Name" />
                        </f:facet>
                        <h:outputLabel value="#{DATA_ROW.label}" for="#{DATA_ROW.label}_id" />
                   </h:column>
                   <h:column>
                        <f:facet name="header">
                             <h:outputText value="Value" />
                        </f:facet>
                        <h:inputText value="#{DATA_ROW.label}" id="#{DATA_ROW.label}_id" />
                   </h:column>
              </h:dataTable>
              </body>
              </html>
         </f:view>
    </jsp:root>
    returns:
    17:39:01,390 ERROR [[jsp]] Servlet.service() for servlet jsp threw exception
    java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: #{DATA_ROW.label}_id
    what is related to EL expression in h:inputText's "id" attribute.
    Is there any other way to bind label with dynamically created input field in JSP? Do I really have to bind input field directly to component objects with "binding" and set IDs manually with setId() (what is ugly solution because it moves View related logic to Model layer)?

    I've thought of using EL because I have to somehow
    link a label to an input field dynamically. Somehow? Dynamically? Just use plain text :)Well... just look at my code snippet (notice: we want to join the pairs of labels and text boxes placed in a datatable [or any other repeater-like component rendering properties of objects from a collection]):
    <h:dataTable value="#{screen$monitoring$errorlog$CorrectHopper.dataset}" var="DATA_ROW">
    <h:column>
    <f:facet name="header">
    <h:outputText value="Name" />
    </f:facet>
    <h:outputLabel value="#{DATA_ROW.label}" for="#{DATA_ROW.label}_id" />
    </h:column>
    <h:column>
    <f:facet name="header">
    <h:outputText value="Value" />
    </f:facet>
    <h:inputText value="#{DATA_ROW.label}" id="#{DATA_ROW.label}_id" />
    </h:column>
    </h:dataTable>
    and what is your idea of using plain text as "id" attribute value in this case? :)

    Michal

  • Mixing Html/JSP - Is it possible to retain value in "file" input field?

    I have a jsp page with the following snippet:
    <% String text1 = (String)session.getAttribute("text1");
    if(text1 == null) {
    text1 = " "; }
    //get more attributes here
    %>
    <form name="file" action="checkFields_images.jsp" method="post" enctype="multipart/form-data">
    <input type="text" size="15" name="text1" value="<% =text1 %>"><br>
    <input type="file" name="image1" />
    <br>
    <input type="text" size="15" name="text2">
    <br>
    <input type="submit" name="submit" value="submit">
    </form>
    ...upon submission, it will go to a jsp that will check the fields for blanks or errors. If there are errors, the page will forward the user BACK to the original page, and each field that had an entry will be displayed with what the user had entered.
    The way my code operates is when the user hits the submit button, the jsp page that checks the fields is also setting the values submitted in session attributes. Those of you familiar with JSP code will know what I mean.
    That way when the page is redisplayed the "value" attributes of each <input> field will be set to what the user entered by way of such:
    <input type="text" name="text1" value="<%=text1%>">
    where <%=text1%> is a java variable set to the session attribute value for this <input> field.
    Now I know that the <input type="file> field has a value attribute, but I don't believe it is something that can be set. So how do I workaround this? I just want the field to display the file name the user had selected. I've worked with mixing JavaScript and Java code, but there are certain things you can and can't do, and I'm coming up with any "can do's" for this one.
    Any suggestions are appreciated
    Thank You,
    Love2Java

    You are absolutely correct.
    For security reasons, you can't specify a value for the input type="file".
    Here is one suggestion, of how I would see it work in a perfect world.
    - The file is uploaded and retained on the server
    - You send back a page without an input type="file"
    - The user fixes whatever fields they got wrong and submits again
    - The server picks up the correct fields, along with the file sent with the "bad" request, and then continues as normal.
    In this way, you only have to upload the file once.
    Instead of regenerating the <input type="file">, it would generate something like "File already uploaded. Correct other fields"
    pros:
    - Don't have to worry about repopulating the input type="file"
    - user only uploads the file once
    cons:
    - if the user wants to change the file? Maybe another link?
    - must retain file on server somewhere, and find it later.
    I didn't say it was easy, but it seems the most sensible approach to me.

    hi,
    The way you are trying to get the input field value works good with hbj type elements.
    either you change your input field to an hbj one or use java script inside your jsp page to catch the value
    like
    for HTML:
    [HTML Input Field|http://www.w3schools.com/HTMLDOM/met_doc_getelementbyid.asp]
    and for HTMLB

  • %sign in jsp input box

    Hi Gurus,
    This code was working fine. Then I added a common utility required and it does still run correctly but not when I enter a % sign
    for example if I enter G339% the system out displays G339"a small square box"oe=partno
    so it seems to transform the number and append other code after the number when calling the servlet.
    jsp:
    <input type="text" name="searchvalue" value=<%=searchvalue%>>
    servlet:
    String searchvalue = request.getParameter("searchvalue");
    System.out.println("in the search value is: " + searchvalue);Please help and could you please give some code in the reply. I tried encode URL and nothing seems to work. I tried escape character that did not seem to work either. Really going crazy on this one.
    Thank you !
    I got this half way to work
    I put this code on the javascript of the button:
    document.forms[0].searchvalue.value = escape(document.forms[0].searchvalue.value);but if the user hits enter it goes right to the servlet and I am trying to do this but it does not work:
    String searchvalue = request.getParameter(escape(("searchvalue"));I know this is java and I am trying to do javascript but I want to do something like what I have above...
    Thank you!

    You are encountering a "feature" of the browser.
    If there is only one text field on the page, and you hit the enter key, it will avoid running the onclick method of the submit button.
    Workaround solution: put another textfield on the page: even if it has a style="display:none" to hide it.
    That is sufficient for the browser to then recognise it needs to run the onclick when you hit enter.

  • Highlighting input field and  table cell column in red colour

    Hi,
           I have 4 input fields and a table in my screen. All the input fields are read only.
        I have a functionality where I have to highlight a input field with the red colour. In the sense, I have to put a thin Red border over the input field without thowing any errors or messages.
           Also, i have to highlight a particular cell in the table. i.e, i have to put Red colour border over the cell of the table for some rows only. Right now i have changed the background colour of the cell for required rows, but i need Red thin border rather than changing the entire background colour.
    Please guide me on achieving these functionalities..
    Thanks and Regards,

    Hi,
    The red thin lines border you are talking about comes from the framework during the exceptions. If this is the case then refer the following links, hope this will help you.

  • Bind input field value to a variable fails

    Business need : The user wants to re-evaluate lines by a percentage value which he fills via his BI-IP screen.
    I created an INPUT FIELD in WAD and I am trying to link a variable value (initially created in BI-IP through transaction RSPLAN)
    to this INPUT FIELD.
    Whenever I fill the input field with a value, the value is not being transferred to the variable.
    Please help how to bind an INPUT field value to a variable to be transmitted to a planning function.
    I have made many trials but in vain.
    Please help.

    Hi.
    I will present my scenario (it works in my system). From this scenario you may "cut" implementation for your scenario.
    Lets sat I have an input fileld item and I want to read value (in my case numeric value) and pass this value to any planning sequence.
    1. Create in Bex variable (in my case it is formula variable) lets say Z_INPUT_VAR
    2. In WAD, when you executin planning sequence (lets say by pressing button execute) in command EXEC_PLANNING_SEQUENCE_SIMPLE define data binding.
    When you clicked data binding->variable input MANUALY your variable name (Z_INPUT_VAR) in popup window.
    3. In variable type select (ITEM_INPUT) type
    4. In web item select your input field item.
    This way you will pass inputed value to vaariable and planning sequence.
    Then in planning function you also may use VARV() to read value of Z_INPUT_VAR variable.
    Regards.

  • Link a Form Field to new Text Field

    PDF - form field
    Looking for a code to link a form field(text_1, on page #5) to
    another, new form field(text_2, on pages 2-4).
    Maybe a "Page Properties" action (i.e., Page Open: field text_2 = field text_1)
    ~~
    Why....
    busy but here's why
    In the PDF, there are Form fields on page 5 which interface (externalinterface) with an RMA ( a SWF) on page 2.
    This all works well.
    As the form fields must be carried forward (from page 5 to page 2... to interface the RMA),
    the orignal page 5, From fields are copied to pages 2-4 and then "Hidden".
    Again, this works just fine.
    A reset "action" (button) was added to, well, clear the Form Field for easy reuse.
    The reset ''action' does it's job and clears ALL form fields with the same "Name".... on every /all pages.
    This causes the dynamic interface, with the RMA, to display blank fields (within the SWF).
    This will effect the User's experience.
    ~~
    Work aound.....
    Find a way to label the Form Fields (page 5) so that "only they" are reset, and no others.
    Create a link of Form Field inputs on page 5 (with names... x,y,z),
    to new Form Fields pages 2-4 (with a differnet names... a,b,c).
    Thanks in advance for your help....

  • JS error while using input fields with type=file on XP SP2

    Hi all,
    we found a new problem in applications which use input fields with type=file running in a browser on Microsoft Windows XP with SP2.
    A typical test layout might look like:
    <html>
      <head>
        <title>File-Upload</title>
      </head>
      <body>
        <form action="/cgi-bin/upload.pl" method=post

          <button onclick="document.forms[0].submit();">Send</button>

    When you add a link without the fully qualified path (for example pic01.jpg instead of c:\pictures\pic01.jpg) and click on the 'Send' button, nothing happens and you get a Javascript error 'Access denied'.

  • How to do validation of input fields

    Hi all,
              I have a rquirement to do the validation of input fields.Can anybody explain me how to go for that???Please explain in detail.U can also give me a link where i can find the tutorial for doing this.

    Hi Amit,
    What everyone has said above is correct - in the method of your action simply test for whatever condition you need to validate for.  However, the following tutorial shows you how to use Web Dynpro's Message Manager to display the messages on the screen in an easy user-friendly way:
    <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/library/webdynpro/wd%20java/wd%20tutorials/a%20simple%20input%20form%20with%20message%20and%20error%20service%20support.pdf">Enabling Message and Error Support</a>
    In addition, there are some validations that are done automatically depending on what you have your input fields set to - for instance, if you bind your input field to a date and a user enters words into the field instead of an actual date, it will automatically display an error message.  To learn how to turn this feature on and off, see this tutorial

    elementary search help or collective search help?
    thanks & regards in advance,
    vsnl.

    Hi,
    Input Help on the Screen
    Within the Screen Painter, you can define two types of input help:
    1. The FIELD statement with one of the additions VALUES or SELECT.
    2. Linking a search help directly to a screen field.
    If you link a search help directly to a screen field, it overrides the additions of the FIELD
    statement. However, the input check [Page 581] functions of the FIELD statement remain
    unaffected.
    Input Help in Flow Logic
    The following input help methods are obsolete and should not be used. They are still supported
    for compatibility reasons.
    In the screen flow logic, you can specify a value list for a screen field <f> as follows:
    FIELD <f> VALUES (<val1>, <val2>,...).
    The value list contains a series of single values <vali>. The NOT and BETWEEN additions for the
    input check [Page 581] are not appropriate for input help.
    You can also create a value list by accessing a database table as follows:
    FIELD <f> SELECT *
    FROM <dbtab>
    WHERE <k1> = <f1> AND <k2> = <f2> AND...
    In the WHERE condition, the fields of the primary key <ki> of the database table <dbtab> are
    checked against the screen fields <fi>. The WHENEVER addition, used with input checks [Page
    581], is not necessary for input help.
    If you have used a ABAP Dictionary reference for field <f>, the selection and the hit list formatting
    may be affected by any check table attached to the field.
    Attaching a Search Help
    Search helps from the ABAP Dictionary can be attached to a screen field [Ext.]. To do this, enter
    the name of the search help in the corresponding field in the attributes of the screen field in the
    Screen Painter. This assigns the first parameter of the search help to the screen field. It is only
    possible to place a value from the hit list onto the screen.
    Input help on a screen.
    REPORT DEMO_DYNPRO_F4_HELP_DYNPRO MESSAGE-ID AT.
    DATA: CARRIER(3) TYPE C,
    CONNECTION(4) TYPE C.
    CALL SCREEN 100.
    MODULE CANCEL INPUT.
    LEAVE PROGRAM.
    ENDMODULE.
    The next screen (statically defined) for screen 100 is itself. It has the following layout:
    602 April 2001
    Cancel
    Airline
    Flight number
    Screen field with search help
    Input help in the flow logic
    The input fields have been adopted from the program fields CARRIER and
    CONNECTION. The function code of the pushbutton is CANCEL, with function type
    E. The search help DEMO_F4_DE with the search help parameter CARRID is
    assigned to the screen field CARRIER. The search help uses the database table
    SCARR.
    The screen flow logic is as follows:
    PROCESS BEFORE OUTPUT.
    PROCESS AFTER INPUT.
    MODULE CANCEL AT EXIT-COMMAND.
    FIELD CARRIER VALUES ('AA', 'LH').
    FIELD CONNECTION SELECT *
    FROM SPFLI
    WHERE CARRID = CARRIER
    AND CONNID = CONNECTION.
    When the user chooses the input help for the individual fields, the following input
    help is displayed:
      For the Airline field, the search help displays the names of the airlines and places the airline
    code in the input field for the chosen line. If the airline code is not one of those listed in the
    VALUES list of the screen flow logic, the input check triggers an error message in the PAI
    event. So the search help overrides the VALUES addition for the input help, but not for the
    input checks. This is therefore not an appropriate place to use the VALUE addition.
      For the Flight number field, the flow logic displays the selected entries from the database
    table SPFLI and places the selected line in the input field.
