Re: Migration from Sysbase Adaptive Server 11.5 to Oracle 8.0.6

I had a problem when using Oracle Migration Workbench to migrate a database from Migration from Sybase Adaptive Server 11.5 to Oracle 8.0.6 in NT environment.
It contains only 8 tables.
Firstly, it captured well the source database from Sybase. But It hang on every times when mapping tables in this database to Oracle.
Is there anyone experienced with this problem?
By the way, I would like to know that which way (tool) is the best one to migrate
A system from Sybase Adaptive Server 11.5 to Oracle 8.0.6
Any idea will be very appreciated?
Thanks

Thanks very much.
I have sent both the error.log and my repository to [email protected]
Could you please let me know if you have any advice.

  • Migrate to 10g from Sybase Adaptive Server Anywhere 8

    Hi,
My company is planning to migrate from Sybase Adaptive Server Anywhere 8 to Oracle10g.
Does anyone have any experience with this particular case?
I need some advice on how to make the migration 'smooth'.

No we don't support that Sybase database type currently. Have you looked at the migration tools from Ispirer?

  • Complications migrating from Snow Leopard Server to Mountain Lion Server.

I'm migrating from Snow Leopard Server to Mountain Lion Server. The article "OS X Server: Upgrade and migration" (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5381) says
"Make sure that any DNS or DHCP servers on which your server depends remain running during the upgrade"
This advice is reinforced by the details of the article "OS X Server: Steps to take before upgrading or migrating the Open Directory database" (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5300).
As the server I'm migrating from provides these services it will need to be running during the migration process. This would seem to limit my options to doing the migration from a Time Machine backup (or, making a seperate clone of the server's drive and connecting it externally to the new box)
My main concern is the seemingly inevitable clash that is going to occur on the network as the new server takes on the roles of the old one - while it is still running.
What are my options here ?
This is my second attempt as on my first try I did the migration from the TM backup with the network down - and none of my local network users or their home directories were migrated, although the settings for the mount points were, but there were no actual directories where they pointed to!
Clear directions on how to procede would be VERY MUCH appreciated
    Thank you.

Moving from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion means first installing the client (non-Server) version of Mountain Lion and then install Server.app this means that for at least part of the process you will not be running DNS, DHCP or Open Directory.
If you are going to end up using the same DNS name and IP address after the change then an approach you could follow would be as follows.
    Destroy any Open Directory replicas
Archive your Open Directory Master (to make a backup)
Note down your DNS records in case they get messed up
Export via Workgroup Manager your users, and groups (you might not need this but better safe than sorry), make sure you do not include the diradmin account
Keep a full back of the server (you should always have backups)
Note down your DHCP server settings in case they get messed up
Note down any other service settings
    Install Mountain Lion
    Install Server.app
Install Workgroup Manager (extra free download)
    Run Server.app
Make sure settings for services are as much as possible the same as before
If your lucky that may be all you need to do, otherwise...
Restore Open Directory archive, if your lucky that will be all you need to do, otherwise...
    Make new Open Directory Master
    Run Workgroup Manager
Import users and groups you previously exported
You will then have to set passwords for each user as these are not preserved via Workgroup Manager export
When I did this, I was also being forced to change all my IP addresses so I had no choice but to use Workgroup Manager to export and import accounts.

  • Export data from MS sql server table to an oracle table

I need to move data from a sql server table to an oracle table and when ever the sql server table is updated it needs to automatically update the oracle table. Is there procedure to do this or do I migrate the data once and set up a trigger on the sql server table to update the oracle table? If the trigger is the answer how do I do that?

You might want to check out Oracle's heterogeneous services functionality if you haven't done so already. Here are a few links:

  • Migration from Small business server 2011 standad to Windows 2012 Server Standard

    Hi everyone,
I have a network with SBS 2011 standard (that is the only server) and now we are moving (migrating) to windows 2012 server standard with an exchange 2013 (not yet installed).
The main thing is that when trying to install the migration tool on the SBS server, it will not install because it is not a 2008 R2 server.
is there a workaround for this problem?
I Hope this will help. Amir Ovadia

    Hi,
Would you please first let me know how did you perform the migration? Regarding the migration tool, is it the Windows Server Migration Tools in Windows Server 2012 R2? Since you need to install
the Windows Server Migration Tools on the source SBS 2011 server, I suggest we could perform the following steps to install it.
Create deployment folders for ource computers by running the
smigdeploy.exe tool (included with Windows Server Migration Tools) on your destination server.
Register Windows Server Migration Tools on source computers that are running Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2008, or Windows
    Server 2003 by using SmigDeploy.exe.
For details, please refer to the following article.

In addition, here are some similar threads about how to perform the migration from SBS to Windows Server 2012 Standard, maybe they are useful to us.

  • Data migrated from MS SQL Server 2k to Oracle8i is not the same :(

I'm trying to help a customer here who is trying to migrate a

table on Oracle will have duplicate and incorrect data as well

  • Migration from sybase sql server 7 to Oracle 8i

    Hi,
We have a very old Sybase database which contains some 2gb of data which is still being used by the users, we want to phase this out. We want to selectively export some tables and import them into our oracle 8i database. I have looked at documentation related to the migration workbench and it wont work for us because the version of sybase database is very old and I cannot find any client software either to help me to connect to the database.
I noticed in this forum, several messages suggesting the use of bcp to export data from the sql server and then sql*loader to import the data into oracle.
Can anybody please send me the information on bcp and how to export data using that and then how to import it in oracle. I am familiar with sql*loader but am not a expert so any help on how to define the control file etc for sql*loader would be helpful.
    Thanks

    Hi Hari,
You will be able to get the Beta release on this site in the next
couple of days in the 'Software' section of this page.
We are just waiting on our web page administrators to make this
    software public.
The amount of interest in the SQL Server 7.0 plugin is
substantial, so we are focussing on making it production as soon
    as possible.
Please provide feedback on the beta to [email protected]

  • DB Migration from MS SQL Server 2005 to Oracle 9i

    Hi Guys
I want to migrate the data from Microsoft SQL Server 2005 to Oracle 9i.
Could ou please suggest me the how to proceed.
I can simply extract the das in CSV format as their are Foreign key , Primary key concept is there. So what will be the best way to proceed ....
    regards
    Macky

    Macky,
In the coming months we will add support for SQL Server 2005 to the Oracle Migration Workbench. See our statement of direction on OTN for more details.
If you have extracted the data into a csv file format, you could construct a SQL Loader control file to load this data, assuming you have already created the table on the Oracle side.

  • Migration from MS SQL Server to Oracle 10g

    Hi,
In our application, we are planning to refresh data every one hour from MS SQL Server to Oracle 10g. Can anyone tell me what approach can be followed?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Faizal MK

    Hello,
migrations can be done with the Migration Workbench that is included in the SQL Developer: http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/migration//workbench/index_sqldev_omwb.html
But your question sounds more like a replication of data than a migration. Please read as a starter the following note in My Oracle Support (former Metalink):
Note 283700.1: How to replicate Data between Oracle and a Foreign Datasource
That note describes ways for the replication in both directions. Please let me know whether this is helpful for you.

  • Check Stored Procedures after Migration from MS SQL Server 2008 to Oracle11

I successfully migrated my application database (azteca) from MS SQL Server 2008 to Oracle 11g R2. After migration, I found there are few stored procedures are not valid. How do I check these invalid stored procedures and find what is wrong with them by using SQL Developer? Thanks for your help.
    Kevin

    Hi Kevin,
You posted quite a bit today, so perhaps you have already worked this out. If not...
    1. View -> Reports -> Data Dictionary Reports -> All Objects -> Invalid Objects [for a specific schema name]
    2. Next, for each invalid stored procedure listed in (1)...
    a. Open in the code editor from the Connections navigator tree
    b. Click on the Compile icon (two gears meshed together) in code editor tool bar.
    c. Look in the Compiler log pane for errors.
    d. Correct the errorsOf course, success in addressing any errors depends on your skill level dealing with Oracle PL/SQL.
Also, it may be helpful to read over section *3.2 Stored Procedures* in the supplementary migration guide:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E35137_01/doc.32/e18462/trig_stored_proc.htm#CHDEIGBC

  • Open Directory Migration from Mac OSX Server 10.4 to 10.8?

    Hi All,
This might be a silly question and apologise in advanced if this is?
We are running on old Xserve (10.4.8) with approx. 100 Mac clients and would like to know if it's possible to migrate from OD 10.4 to OD 10.8. We tried just to see what would happen if we archived the old OD and re-imported in to 10.8, but as we guessed this didn’t work. I’ve looked through this forum and seems most are doing this from 10.5, so wondering if we need to upgrade to 10.5 and then up to 10.8?
    Any pointers would be great.
    Many thanks.
    Mike

If you don't mind clearing ser passwords, then I would export users from 10.4 and import into 10.8
There are some issues with service ACLs in doing this, but its still the fastest process.
If users are allowed to set their own PW, the you give provide preset pw's (either unique or common) and a URL to allow users to reset their PW.
If you need to retain passwords, what I would do is clone the 10.4 server, then upgrade it all the way to 10.8 then archive OD from that and import into a clean-install of 10.8 server.
    Whataver you do, don't rely on a 10.4 to 10.8 migration, you'll want a clean 10.8 install.
The offline 10.4 -> 10.8 would allow you to retain PWs, but it creates alot of extra work for you.
