Re-name clips

I have many clips in a project and they all have the same file name as a result of the acquire process. Is there a method of renaming each clip? I have looked everywhere tried everything and I can not find a method to rename clips.
Also, If I start a new project can I selectively import clips from a prior project?

For the purpose of answering your questions, I am assuming that you are using Premiere Elements 7.
With your media in Project Media View, right click the file there, select Rename, and rename.
or
Right click the video on the Timeline, select Rename from the pop up, and rename.
If you have opened a project .prel and added media, that media should be incorported into the Organizer. Let us say that you open another (new) project .prel and want that specific media from that other project .prel. Look to "Filter by: Select Album" and under Select Album select that project in the list.
However, if you needed to transfer (use) your Timeline in another project prel, then save/export the Timeline (File Menu/Export/Movie as DV AVI. In that save/export, a copy is saved to the hard drive location of your choice as well as a copy being in the current project. You can then use the copy saved to the hard drive for use in other project prel via the programs Get Media/Files & Folders.

  • How to name clips in Log and Transfer

I work at a production company and we log and transfer a lot of High Definition footage. We can't seem to figure out an efficient way to label all of our clips though. I can name the Reel but how do you name clips without spending all day clicking on each clip and renaming.

When renaming clips in Log and Transfer, I found out the hard way that these names are stored with the FCP project file that is open at the time, and this data will disappear if you try ingest it while another FCP files is open.
In other words, if you are working on a project and want video you ingested for a different project, using Log and Transfer to get those clips will leave you without all of the clip names that you spend so much time adding.
Has anyone found a way around this?
    Thanks,
    Kurtis

  • After Effects reversed when saving the file name - clips get wrong content

    Hi there,
I have several clips in a sequence. edit this and save it with after effects. then the contents of the edited clips of AE are swapped in Premiere
Example: Premiere Clip 1 -> dynamic link -> AE Edit and save -> Premiere clip 1 still OK ... the same with clip 2 ... -> and now in Premiere is placed after the content of the clip 1  to clip 2!
My suspicion is that AE has problems with saving and thus confused the names of the Clips. For a little help I would be very grateful.
System: Win 8.1 ; CS5.5 MasterCollection all Updates

This is fixed in later versions.

  • Is there any way to change the way 'Log and Transfer' names clips

I'm importing AVCHD files that are 5 digits long. 'Log an Transfer' seems to remove the leading 0's, when importing, and I'm forced to manually add them back in order to make sure that my clips stay in chronological order
    Any suggestions would be appreciated
    Thanks in advance

  • Changing Clip and File Names While Maintaining Link to P2

I know that if I open P2 files in the Log and Transfer window I can (re)name clips before transferring them to QuickTimes and still maintain a link to the original P2 files in case something goes offline. Two questions:
    1. If I transfer without changing the name, then change the name of the clip and its related QT from within a bin will it still maintain its link to the original P2 files?
    2. If so, will it maintain a link to copies of the same P2 files on another drive (I'm transferring and organizing at home using a backup of the P2's)? Would links be maintained if I did the name change in the Log and Transfer window?
OK, that was three questions. No one expects the Spanish Inquisition.

Well...the best way to figure this out is to test. I didn't know, so I did a test. Imported a clip called 0003JK.mov. Changed it at MY CAR (because it was a shot of my car)...used FCP to change the name of the file on my drive to match the clip. Then I deleted it. Then I used the BATCH CAPTURE function...and YES, it imported that clip fine.
SO...for #2...test it and see. But, if you mean that you are importing clips on one machine, NOT changing the names...and then on your machine importing and changing the names....will it relink to the files imported on the OTHER machine? I doubt it...but I can't be sure. So test it. The only way to know is to test it.
But if you change the name in the Log and Transfer window, or later, yes, they relink.

  • Preserve clip name from Premiere?

    Hi,
Does anyone know a trick or script to preserve a clip name from Premiere when pasting into AE?
Not the file name, which is all I'm getting, but what you have renamed it in Premiere.
I know of renaming scripts for AE, but it's a bit of a pain to name clips twice.
It seems an easy bit of metadata to just follow your clips.
    Thanks,
    Andrew

    Thank you joe bloe!
For at least the past four hours, I have been searching Adobe Forums, Google, and checking everything under the sun within PP!  I didn't find how to disable this under preferences for Media Player, but I did open up Quick Time and the Clip Name (file name) isn't there.
If you have the time, could you share the path to the Media Player > Preferences > Disable the Clip Name.  I'm using Win 7 Professional, IE 10.
    Again, thank you!

  • IMovie 10.0.2 Clip Names

Can you name clips anylonger in the newest version of iMovie? I know I used to be able to do this in an earlier version but I don't find a way to do this any longer?

Someone wrote this below and I have tried and I cannsee and I can import again!!!
    Thanks,
When the camera is connected go to Import and select the device. Then in the top right corner there is a little filmstrip icon. Click on that and there is a check box for 'Hide Previously Imported Clips'
Uncheck that and that solved it for me!

  • Clip name browser

Is there a way to set the clip name for Canon mpeg files to their actual name/clip number (e.g. AA1224) in the Browser instead of date created.
As foe my imported dslr mov's are showing the clipname. e.g. DSC_6783 as I like it.
    Thanks in advanced.

FCP and Mac are very new to me. Used to Window and Premiere Pro.
I do not change the name of the clips of the card.
Must be doing something wrong. Select clips in libary. go to inspector, set it to info, then drop downmenu: greyed out.
If i select just one clip nothing happens in the inspector.
I dont like working with clips that all start with clip date followed by clip time.
I am use to windows way. AA0001, AA002 etc.
By Canon mpeg files I mean mpeg-2 in a mxf container.
Should I use Proress instead. I am on a imac 2.95 SSD+1 tb internal disk and 16 gig of ram.
I am still figuring out how the mac does its file managment.
Have no idea how to generate proress and then do I substitute proress for the Canon files on export?
So many questions. I did follow a course on Lynda.com. But alas it does not tell you everything.
    Thanks

  • Adding other names to clips other than favorite?

How do I name clips other than "favorite" and "rejected",  which I could do in imovie 11 the previous imovie edition?

The new version of iMovie does not allow you to rename clips or to add keywords. However, if you already added keywords in an older version of iMovie, you can still search for them in the new version.
If you really need this function, you may want to consider Final Cut Pro 10.1. It has an outstanding keyword feature that not only makes it easy to add keywords, it also creates smart collections of keywords automatically.
You can also rename your clips easily in FCP.
Alternatively, you could continue to use iMovie 11.

  • The imported clip are not sorted by date/Time

I have just imported a bunch of tapes (mini-DV with time stamp ok) into iMovie. 150gb of video !
I have imported the tapes evenly but now, I want to see all my clips sorted with the date-time order of the DV timestamp. Is it clear enough ?
    Thank you for your help
    Hervé

    This page
    http://www.pachysoft.com/PaneReliever/features.html
    says:
    "Sort iMovie's Clips Pane by:
         •     Original Order (Eliminates empty slots)
         •     File Name
         •     Clip Name (Up to three different columns)
         •     Time Stamp
         •     Dragging rows within iMovie Pane Reliever's main window"
But it doesn't say it's really the time stap from the tape, although I get that impression.

  • Split clip in EVENT

I'd like to split a clip in the EVENT (not the project). The yellow box selector is woefully inadequate for precision selection (down to the frame). And even if you could select the clip to split, there is no way to split it. Rt-click/split ONLY works in the STUPID project library. I don't want to create projects! I want to divvy up my "raw" event video into appropriate events!
(I digitized 2 hrs of Hi8 video -- many different events.)
Help me before I hate iMovie '09 more!!

First, it is quite possible to edit to the frame level. Go to iMovie Preferences and put an check next to "Display Time as HH:MM:SS:Frames".
Next, you can split events but it is slow, and you have to destroy a frame at each split. Rather than tell you how, there is a way I much prefer that is quicker.
I do a lot of 8MM and VHS imports myself.
    1) Download MPEG Streamclip, which is free.
    2) Drag your file into MPEG Streamclip.
    3) <----Start of Event----->
    4) Position cursor at the frame where you want the event to start. Click i to set the "in point".
    5) Position cursor at the frame where you want the event to end. Click o to set the "out point".
    6) Click File/Export Using QuickTime. Choose a codec. If your event is DV, you may want to simply pass the clip through streamclip as DV. If it is MPEG2 or something highly compressed, convert it to Apple Intermediate Codec. (NOTE: for MPEG2 you also need the Apple QuickTime MPEG2 Playback Component, available online from Apple $20)
    7) Optional: You can deinterlace in this step, if you need to. Depends on your target media. Do a test.
    8) Give your new event a name. I suggest that you name your clip as follows, because this will provide metadata that allows iMovie to automatically put the event in the right year and month, and allows you to see the time codes while skimming the event withe your cursor (VIEW/DISPLAY TIME CODES)
    9) Here is the format for the name:
clip-yyyy-mm-dd hh;mm;ss (let MPEG Streamclip provide the extension, it will be DV or MOV)
    where yyyy=year
    mm=month in 2 digits
    dd=day
remember a space between dd and hh
    hh=hour in 24 hour time
    mm = minutes
    ss = seconds.
    10) Additional splits needed on this clip? Go back to step 3.
    11) In iMovie, select FILE/IMPORT from file.

  • Clipping Path info

    Hello guys,
Again I am coming with a need for help now.
I need a automation or plugin or script for spotting error on Photoshop paths.
I tried photoshop scripts, searched for options in indesign and other softwares like pdf preflights. I couldn't find any idea.
I will be working with lots of images more or less 100 images a day. I want to get the infos of clipping paths created in photoshop like path name, clipping flatness and open paths if any, all details in a log file or an log display window. Not an issue whether it works inside photoshop or outside like automation along with other softwares. But I simply need to spot the open path and clipping path name exactly.
    Need help!!!
    Thank you in advance!

  • Naming Clips

Just upgraded from iMovie HD to iMovie '09. Is it possible to "name" clips so that they can be easily identified in the clips pane? Video taping sporting events can result in over 100 clips in a single event. By naming clips (iMovie HD), I could keep track of certain plays that I needed to use during the editing of a movie. And, over a whole sports season, I have to keep highlights from every game in order to put a full season DVD together. What a waste of time to have to search through so many clips to find just the one I need and all because there's no way to differentiate them from the others. The colored lines are not enough!

    I have a similar problem...
Being new to iMovie, I thought things were going smoothly when I plugged in my new helmet cam and imported 40 clips of downhill biking. I went to the trouble to adjust the time/date stamp and even name all the clips.
Next I fired up iMovie... and preceded to get slightly ****** off. Those couple hours of work appear to have been in vain. iMovie appears to ignore all of that info. Is this correct?
And if so, how does a user go about identifying a particular clip amongst dozens that look nearly identical. In this scenario, they're all of the same race course so they don't look much different at first glance.
Is there anyway at all to see the file name or even better, the info that I typed into iPhoto? I'm really hoping so because otherwise using iMovie will be incredibly frusterating. There might as well be no preview or scrubbing at all. Imagine how difficult that would be. That's basically what i'm dealing with... in attempting to find a particular clip among many similar clips.

  • When uploading video from go pro and sonyhandy cam, takes forever and clips says hidden camera

Tried to upload video from sony handycam and also gopro...takes hours, and only can view the first half of clips. The rest of the clips have ? and say hidden camera. This is in Imovie. Both camera's are on the imovie compatible list. Any ideas?

I am only bumping your post up, I do not know what is going on. You have probably finalized your project by now. My first thought is you mention nested scene sequences and I thought the edl process would not accept nest. I would have to navigate off to re-research that statement.
Why I reply is I have been testing the edl process and have been able to achieve sucess with exporting edl with audio as 'none' but failure to import edl with WAV audio into Speedgrade.
Yes, another member has a post regarding 'Major EDL Export BUG in 8.2!' in this pasted link
MAJOR EDL Export BUG in 8.2!
which is error with respect to WAV, and same error results as I am seeing with my WAV edl export text files
My research has led me to your post and I find it very interesting. Thanks for the details. I am not done with my research, just using all the data to see how I can include audio in an edl without error. My previous method was to export the edl without audio and import the audio separately. I now want to include audio,
another thought is your text files - they appear short, as in they say FROM CLIP NAME: (clip name), but no file extension
EDIT: I think the problem I am having with exporting edl WAV files is that the edl text file does not show the .wav file extension. I can export an edl and have the WAV file extension show, but it is not the sequence that I want to export as an edl. The sequence that does export out the edl file extension is the sequence where I cut sections of audio into my next sequence. It behaves like your nested sequence not giving file extension.
Thats all I can say is that my edl isn't giving me a file extension for my WAV due to it being cut from another sequence.

  • PP CS6 bug, cant change name of captured footage

Just captured 10 hdv tapes. After each was done capturing a PP  diologue box automatically pops up that asks for tape name & clip name. If you try to alter the names in any way, you will get error message that says something like the name cant be used....You cant click OK. . If you x out of it the captured clip dialogue box, it will be saved to the HD but wont be loaded into the open project.
