RE: Print a front panel in a file

Use a pdf printer driver and use this along with the print on completion
setting for the VI that you want to print to file.
This is great for reports.

I'm not aware of a single vi that can do this. The way I've done this is to use combination of vi's described under Help in "report generation vis and function" located under "vi and function reference."

  • Print a front panel in a file

I would like to know if there is any function or other way to print a front panel in a file (a picture file or a print file) in execution mode.
    thanks

You can use the Get Panel Image method. Place an Invoke node in your diagram, select VI as Vi Server Class and choose Get Panel Image as the method invoked.
You can also choose if you want to copy the visible area only or the entire panel.
    Hope this helps.

  • Print VI front panel to file does not work after building executable.

I am using a property and invoke node to print the front panel of my VI to an HTML file.  It works fine in the development mode. After Building the application, this subvi will no longer
print the front panel.  Is there some special files that included in the build??

You can use the Report Generation VIs to generate the HTML report.  Specifically, you could use Append Front Panel Image to Report.vi and Save Report to File.vi to save the image of the panel to an HTML report.
Check out the examples in examples\reports to get a better idea how to use these VIs if you've never used them before.

  • How to save settings in the front panel to different files and retrieve it later?

How to save the front-panel controllers' settings to different files and retrieve it later?
What I've archived is the "Save Settings" function, but when trying to "Reload Settings", I can only retrieve the saved data to front-panel indicators, but not the controllers!
Can anybody give me some advises?
    Thanks in advanced!
    Charles Lu

    Hi
Just write the retrieved data to a local variable (but make it writable first) or property node of the controls.
    Hope this helps.

  • I want to print the front panel without all the header stuff while the vi is running

I want to print the vi front panel without all the header information that Labview puts at the top. I want to do all this while the vi is running by pushing a button.

One option is to use the the 'Print VI to Printer' method. Beware that invoking this method repeatedly with complex front panels has caused me graphics problems in my VI's display that persist until the development environment or the built .exe app is exited and re-entered.
    See: http://exchange.ni.com/servlet/ProcessRequest?RHIVEID=101&RPAGEID=135&HOID=5065000000080000005F5A0000&UCATEGORY_0=_49_%24_6_&UCATEGORY_S=0&USEARCHCONTEXT_QUESTION_0=spaz+print&USEARCHCONTEXT_QUESTION_S=0
NI has confirmed this to be a bug in 6.0x and 6.1 and has indicated that it will be fixed in the next version.
I was forced to fall back on the Append Front Panel Image to Report.vi in the report toolkit. Which does not produce printed graphs of as high as quality as the Print VI to
    printer method.

  • Example on how to use the NI "saving a front panel img to file" on a prog.

New to the labview program - I'm trying to save the front panel of the displayed output to file. I downloaded "Panel_Image_to_File.zip" from the NI site. But I'm having problem using the code to our program so as to save the image as a jpeg.
A simple example on how to use the code or any other code that will be able to save the front panel to a specified folder will be great.

All you should need is an invoke node of VI class and the the method Get Panel Image. Wire the Image Data output to the Write JPEG File on the Graphics & Sound>Graphics Formats palette. The Invoke Node is on the application Control palette. When it's on the diagram, right click and select Class>VI Server>VI. Right click on it again and select Methods>Get Panel Image.

  • Front panel breaks on file io change

I'm working on a pump controls application in labview. The software uses inputs from various serial ports to make an input.
The problem I'm having is on start the application loads a calibration document (that translates the user's requested flow speeds into a frequncey to be fed to the pumps Variable frequency drive). Now the program works flawlessly fairly (despite flaws in my code), the problem I'm having is after ~3 months of operation I rewrote the calibration document to the same format (the program has no problem loading the document, nor reading its information).
Yet several front panel objects (switches) no longer function. Now I've been working in labview since 2009, so the problem confuses me greatly because I'm not using custom front panel objects and the majority of functionality remains intact.
Attached is the VI, and its dependency

I think I may have found the problem.
The re-wrote calibration document doesn't have a zero state (stop). And the loop that scans the calibration document (in memory) doesn't have a clause for a zero (stop) request so I added one. Will make this as a solution if this is correct.

  • Print Front Panel to PDf file error REVISITED

"Previous subject matter dealt with Acrobat Distiller for writing PDF files I am seeking a better solution.
I have used successfully, in other programs, pdfFactory but I get the following error message when using it with Labview 7.
    "Labviewrint driver error.
Unable to print.  Make sure you have installed and selected a default printer."
pdfFactory is selected as the default printer.  I have also selected the LaserJet as default then selected pdfFactory for a specific file write but the same message is written to the screen.
This is a nice and easy way to write to a pdf format if it can be made to work.  Acrobat Writer and/or Distiller is not only more expensive it is also more cumbersome to use and apparen
tly has to be accessed through the Report Functions.
Has anybody already solved this problem on the XP operating system?

    Hi
While this may not answer your question, check Jack Hamilton web site at:
Lab-Useful: LabVIEW& Tips, Tricks and Downloads
He has a Print to PDF.llb that: "Allows you to programmatically control the destination and filename for PDF printing in LabVIEW. You must use the report functions to print and have Adobe Acrobat writer installed on the machine - PDF writer does NOT need to be the default printer"
Eventhough it was made for LabVIEW 6.1 and Tested on Windows 2000 Professional, you might be able to figure out what's not working on your system by looking at Jack llb.

  • Cannot print front panel

I have tried to print the front panel and the block diagram.  The front panel is blank but I do get the block.  What is the issue.  Tried on another pc and both do not work.

A little unclear as to how you are doing it
Are you using print option in menu>>File>>Print??
Or, Are you using LabVIEW to programatically print/ 'append to report' your  Front panel?

  • Print front panel

I have been going through messages for a while but just can't seem to find exactly what I'm looking for. I need to print a waveform chart that has two plots that update at about 10Hz. Simple enough, right? Problem is that the report vi's have no way I can see to easily enlarge the image. I tried putting a larger chart in a sub vi that prints after executing but the chart only get part of the data when I run it. Then I tried the invoke get image method but can't find an indicator for the image data. Is there a way to print an enlarged waveform chart image? It would be even better if I can just print a front panel of a subvi with the same data on the waveform chart that appears on my top-level VI.

What I have done in these situations is to have a graphs that is sized to printout the size that I want. I then update the graph from the program data, grab an image of the graph using the Get Image method, and save the image as a jpeg file. I can then either printhout this file or include it in a standard report.
OR you can use Draw Flattened Pixmap.vi to turn it into a form that will go into a picture indicator
OR you can create a VI with the graph on its front panel that is set to print itself when it finishes executing - or which you print programatically

  • Front panel printing settings

    Hey!!
i wana to ask that are there any settings for printing the front panel window??? like describing certain area to print . I actually tried to print it by selecting PRINT WINDOW from files menu but it printed a page without any objects on it??

    Hi ssddii,
If you select File>>Print from within your VI, it should give you options for printing the front panel.  Among these options, you should be prompted to select the VI, choose the portion you want to print (whole front panel, visible portion only, etc), the destination, and set general print settings.
I hope that helps a little,

  • Problem Printing Front Panel

I'm having a problem printing the front panel of a particular VI.  When I set the print option to Standard Printing the printer prints nothing.  When set to Bitmap Printing it works, but it's not the type of printout that I want.  In both cases the Print Preview appears the same.  Also, all my other VI's print in Standard Printing mode with no problems.
I've read other posts indicating that the cause may be that the VI is sending a print code to the printer telling it not to print.  How can I determine if this is the case?  If it is the case, how do I fix it?  This VI's front panel has nothing special about it relative to other VI's that print correctly.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If it happens using the menu, then it's not that your code sends a "do not print" action to the printer.
Try copying front panel items, one or two at a time, from your wonky VI to a new VI, and print the new VI after every move.
Maybe you can find one item that causes it.
If you're on a Mac, print it to a PDF file, and see if that's OK. If you're on Windows, you can use Print2PDF or something similar to act like a printer and show you what the printout would be.

  • Background color of front panel when printing

My vi has a control named "print" which allows the user to print the front panel during execution. The background color of the front panel is white, to avoid filling the printed page with any color. In labview 7.1 (and also 6.0), this worked perfectly. I recently updated to labview 8 and now the background color of the print is gray. Does anybody have any idea how to avoid this?
I am using the "print panel.vi" found in the "vi.lib\utility\printvi.llb". I also tried with the "Easy Print VI Panel or Documentation.vi", with the same result. The same problem also occurs when exporting the front panel to a ".png" file.
    Best regards

I tried with different colors, without any success.
I think that this is a bug !  Good catch !
