Re-size videos

Hello everyone!
I have some 1000 video files of 1920x1080 frame-size. Now I want to add a watermark to these videos and re-size them to 480x360. Then I want to convert these Mov files into swf files. I want to know the quickest way to batch-export these clips.
Thanks,
Kanika

Your best bet may be to do this in passes. Compressor can do a remarkably good job of scaling footage down if you turn on frame controls, but it does take time. Create one Compressor preset that scales your movies down but doesn't process them in any other way, or if they're already in a compressed format, have Compressor down-scale them and output them in an mezzanine format like ProRes. Then run them through Compressor again to add the watermarks without scaling, again outputting to a mezzanine format, then run them through again to turn them into Flash video. It's more work, since you have to batch-process them three times, but you'll probably end up spending less time processing overall.

You can find the serial number either in About this Mc in the Menu bar under the , or it should be on a sticker under the foot of the machine.
If you have the install discs, try booting from them, holding down the c key and then using Disk Utility to check the drive.
You can also boot into Safe mode
To start up into Safe Mode (to "Safe Boot"), do this:
       1. Be sure the computer is shut down.
       2. Press the power button.
       3. Immediately after you hear the startup tone, press and hold the Shift key.
Tip: The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone but not before.
       4. Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple and progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
During the startup in Mac OS X 10.2 through 10.3.9, you will see "Safe Boot" on the Mac OS X startup screen.
During the startup in Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you will see "Safe Boot" on the login window, which appears even if you normally log in automatically.
    Please post back with results,
To leave Safe Mode in any version of Mac OS X, restart the computer normally, without holding any keys during startup.

  • Dvd of non-broadcast standard size video movies possible with FCP & DVDSP4?

    Hi all,
I pulled my hair out trying to produce training tutorials with screencasts (Snapz Pro X2) using FC Express and iDVD. After months of trial and error (and tons of Q&A), it was finally explained to me that I couldn't do this with FCE and iDVD because they were hard wired to output to ntsc/pal or miniDV formats etc.
So I've invested in FC Studio and it should arrive in a few days. My question is, how can I edit my video screen captures in FCP (for example captured at 800x600 pixels, 30fps) and then using DVD Studio Pro, create a dvd that can be viewed on a computer monitor (not interested in playing on a tv)?
The problem I was having before was that every time things were converted down to 720x480, all the video got blurry and I ran into problems with the square pixel vs non-square pixel issues that I never could figure out.
Will DVDSP let me somehow create an interface for playing my clips on a computer, but not force me into the ntsc/pal standard format? Or, even if it does force me into this format (I guess it would if I'm expecting to play it using Apple's DVD Player), is there a way I can ensure my video stays sharp? I need to be able to display small on-screen text (ie Finder windows, application pallets etc) in the screen captures clear enough to be easily read.
I know if I leave them as edited QT movies and played them with the QT Player, this would be easy, but I like having chapters and the attractive interfaces I can create with the dvd authoring apps to help the user navigate through the tutorial.
Any help at all is appreciated.

    G4/1.3Ghz DP AGP   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Thanks Hal,
I'll give this all a try again. I've done four tutorials so far. Mainly to assist in training others that work with me on projects. The first one, I did as you suggested because I was able to size things down to fit within our ntsc format here in the USA. But the last three used apps that didn't permit sizing their main windows and pallets down to these small sizes, plus there were times where I needed to show close up of data entry fields.
In any case, the next time I do this, I'll be using FCP and not FCE, thus I hope this will solve some of the export format issues. FCE really only works with miniDV formats (and HD video). Although I can export to a QT conversion file and keep everything looking great, I'll loose all my chapter markers doing this and the video will go through another conversion when I process it for standard dvd playback.
I'm hoping FCP will provide me an option for exporting the project in a format that'll work with iDVD/DVDSP that'll maintain the clarity of the original clips generated via SPX.
Thanks for your help. What I didn't want to do was spend weeks trying to do something in FCP/DVDSP that couldn't be done.
BTW, if you look at the sample tutorials for FC Studio on Apple's web site,
    http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/tutorials/
those are REALLY done nice. That's what I'd like to be able to eventually do. They manage to do zooming, panning and have pallets "slide" into the viewing area. Granted a lot of this is done in post, but I'd still like to know how they get these results and what tools they're using.
They also say that this tutorial is available on the dvd that comes with the suite, so somehow they've gotten all of this to work (but aren't telling us how). I've been looking and asking questions for over six months and can't find ANYONE doing this type of work, that'll say how this type of stuff is done.

  • Maximum size video upload settings in web config file

Hi, i am providing video support in my application, whereas i need to provide support to upload video without any size limit, say for example atleast 1GB video should be uploaded and played via html5 and iframe tag. I have made some changes in web config

  • How to: Create same size video frames?

I like to use the effect where I have two different videos that are split on the screen.
Example: a shot of the bride and groom walking down the stairs from the church and then another shot of people greeting them.
I like to have these two shots share 50% of the screen each.
I know how to get the two clips on the screen, but I need a better process for the placement and sizing.
Is there a way to position these shots automatically? Today I have to manually nudge the frames until they look level and adjacent, and the same size.
It's even harder if I have more than two clips. I would love to have a grid that I could place them in, and a preset "template" to get them all the same size easily.
Any advice on how to make this effect a bit easier to accomplish?
    1) Make the clips the same size
    2) Position the clips evenly

Go into the Motion tab for each clip and set the
    Scale and Center points precisely.
How about placing the videos evenly on the screen?
I.e one pic in the upper left corner and the second clip in the lower right.

  • Larger screen size video invitation

Is there a way to make ichat start with a larger video screen when invited by a buddy? In combination with autoaccept my mother just waits for my invitation and has not to enlarge the screen every time.

iChat should remember the window size of the last closed chat and reopen any new chat to this size.
I must admit iChat 4 seems more reticent on this.
Some experimenting seems to show your outgoing chats are remembered but not the Incoming ones
This is a Screen Shot of a Leopard QuickLook of the com.apple.ichat.plist
Link to host site where you can make it bigger http://www.flickr.com/photos/90943061@N00/2497233999/
The highlighted bit is the string to alter to make it remember what size to be.
The thing to do would be to have the window a certain size and then close the Quicklook and then change the Video chat window size and reopen Quicklook to see what had changed.
This file can be opened and Edited if you install the Developers Tools from the Install Disk > Optional Installs to get Property List Editor.
The file can be opened with TextEdit but is much more difficult to read.
The figures shown will be the Incoming Invite window, the Outgoing window if you call and the Incoming window when Accepted with a size and position reference.
Which order they come in I am not sure.
It may be possible to write an AppleSript that can be set to the AutoAccept that goes Full Screen.

  • Someone knows how to minimize size video-file without lose quality?

I have been trying but I can not find the settings to minimize my video-files in size without lose quality in premier CS3,can someone help me please?.
the file is a mpg  exported mpg2 from imagemixer3SE software that comes with the camcorder I have got.
As well I have got problems finding the audio.I explain:when exporting the mpg to premiere the audio is not there, but in other programs as after effects you can see there are audio.I readed somewhere that provbably the programe forgot to import the codec and I have to find the file .nll  and import it to premiere but I do not know if this is the right answer.
    Please help!!!
    Thank you very much,
    Asyn

Unfortunately, you have posted into the Premiere forum. This is an older series of programs, prior to the introduction of the Premiere Pro line, with PrPro 1.0.
John has hit on part of your problem - MPEG-2. It is highly compressed to begin with. The best format is, as he suggests, DV-AVI Type II w/ 48KHz 16-bit PCM/WAV Audio. These files will be larger, but will edit better, and you are not likely to experience any Audio issues.
Then, for Export, you have some choices, but you must remember that comprimising the file size and bit-rate WILL diminish quality. How much, will be a function of the CODEC chosen.
What is your intended delivery, DVD-Video, or something else?
I'll bet that Curt, or Jeff, will move your post to the PrPro sub-forum, so look for it there. You will get many more responses in that forum.
    Good luck,

  • Codec/ hardware/software for jumbo-frame size video playback on desktop?

    Hello all,
I am looking for a codec that I can render to from AE and FCP, and can preview 1/2 or 3/4 scaled and actual scle (partial) on my 30" mac desktop.
    ideal size: 3840x2160 (16:9) 25 fps 604 MB/sec CODEC for desktop PB
the AJA whack test on Dulce RX shows (720MB/sec.)easily enough disk throughput to handle 604MB/sec,
but apple uncompressed 10 bit 4:2:2 won't play more than 5sec.
my problem is not editing and rendering of which I will do a variety of methods, but rather
?????what uncompressed codec etc. to render TO????....how to see it,
1/2 or 3/4 scale or actual scale (partial)
    on my 30" desktop
so I can check composition...before we finnally have it chopped up for seperate projectors or in the very fancy installation projection system
or to identify the hardware/software bottle necks to playing such a frame size on my desktop.
    thanks,
    Hilary

Wow, you are definitely on the bleeding edge, Hilary, trying to produce quad-HDTV on a Mac. One thing you might want to try, if you haven't already, is to post your questions at the AVScience forum. I think you will find a more focused audience there.
I don't really have answers for you, but I do have more questions and possibly some things to think about. First question; is the source material really quad-HDTV or is it lower res, like normal HDTV, and the plan is to show it through four, 1080p projectors onto a video wall? The reason I ask is, if the source material is lower res, then it seems pointless to try and encode it as quad-HD. You could just encode as HD (1080p) and then chop it up into four 960 x 540 chunks and project that.
You mention that you have encoded Apple uncompressed 10-bit 4:2:2 but that the file will only play for five seconds. What happens after that? Does it get choppy or does it just altogether stop playing? The answer may hold clues as to what the problem is.
What will the be the final platform for playing this video through the four projectors? Will it be the same G5 PowerMac that you are producing on or is the playback system based on different hardware? That could influence the encoding choice.
It seems the most ideal development system for what you are trying to do would not be on a 30" monitor but instead on four 23" Cinema Displays connected to two graphics boards installed in your G5. Then you could be working at full scale aross all the monitors and you wouldn't have to worry about 1/2 scale or 3/4 scale or partial full scale viewing.
It sounds like you have verified there to be adequate throughput off the disk to play the file at 25 fps but it's hard to imagine that a ~0.6 GBytes per second data stream isn't going to bottleneck somewhere on the G5. That's like 10x the data rate of FW800 if I am reading your post correctly. Maybe you meant 604 Mbps? That's just inside the (theoretical) envelope of FW800, but still a lot of data to be streaming real time without interruption. But where is the pinch point? That is the question. I'm guessing that it is disk related inspite of what the AJA whack test says. Are you using a raid by any chance? That should improve the AJA score and make for more headroom, especially if run off a SATA card.
Personally, I rarely use anything more powerful than Apple's Activity Monitor as a system monitoring tool. But I doubt that it has enough diagnostic power for this application. If you are running Leopard, DTrace might be helpful, but I have no experience with it personally. Just trying to find the bottleneck could turn into a whole project of its own. Again I refer you to the AVScience forum as a possible shortcut to the answers you seek. Good luck with your project.

  • ReMixing odd size video clips

I just don't seem to be able to figure out what Final Cut Express v4.0.1 is doing when I am working with odd-size clips I find online. My aim is to take any clip I find online, re-mix it into a new mashup and re-post my derivative work online. I purchased FCE because I read of a feature whereby "sequence settings will automatically conform to the first clip you drag onto the timeline".
This only seems to happen if I am working with clips that already conform to one of the sixteen 'sequence presets' that appear on the load sequence preset button of the sequence settings.
    * I NEED HELP designing a workflow that will allow me to take any odd-size clip, re-mix it and publish it back to the web with the same (or equivalent) settings.
    Thanks in advance.

OK: after many hours of trial+error here is the best workflow I can come up with for re-mixing (appropriately licensed!) odd-sized web clips with FCE. This example will describe my fav 1024x576 square pixels (which also looks great on DVD on my PAL telly):
    1. Start with a sequence that uses preset "Apple Intermediate Codec 720p(25)" which gives a framesize of 1280x720 square pixels.
    2. Make a .png file 1280x720px with white background and black 1024x576 rectangle centred. (this will serve as guide to edges of desired output clip size and as a mask for QTpro (v7) later on.
    3. Get clips into a format that FCE can handle (QTpro exporting to Apple Intermediate with 25fps works for me (but I will keep the MPEG StreamClip utility mentioned here just in case...))
    4. Import clips and notice how they are automatically centred and behave well at 100%scale 0 Aspect Ratio distortion.
    5. Use File->Export QuickTime Movie to output a .mov with the sequence settings of 1280x720 sq pixels, 25fps Apple Intermediate codec.
    6. Open the exported .mov with QuickTime (PRO) Player v7.6.6, window->Show Movie Properties->click on video track, choose 'visual settings' then open the .png file described in step 2 as a mask. Your movie will now be cropped to the desired 1024x576 square pixels about its centre. Export this cropped .mov to your desired format (my fav is usually H.264 with data rate constrained between 2k-5k depending on the site I will publish on). Further export to iPhone .m4v always look brilliant and are tiny!
    The end.
p.s. This technique works with any output frame-size smaller than 1280x720 square pixels. Just make the black rectangle in the centre of the .png file described in step 2. whatever size you want.
p.s.s. I would love to hear feedback / suggestions for simpler workflow.
