Re-sizing 3d Objects

I created a logo using the 3d tools in Illustrator and when I tried to resize it I could not make it look right. I can only resize it using transform & distort, but also when I print it I see some white lines. It is not horrible but annoying.

Did you have a stroke on the item before you applied 3D. If so you need to remove the stroke, and use offset path on a duplicate fill to create your stroke.

How do I bottom align two different sized text objects?

I'm using font Arnhem and I'm typing something like this:
[email protected] (font size 8pt) and then San Francisco, CA 90210 (font size 13pt) in another text object to the right.
I can't get these two to align at the bottom perfectly. I has to do with the text sizes but there has to be some way to align these two so that they're both aligned at the same exact point on the bottom.

Why not just type them in the same text object and apply the formatting at the character level?
If you must use two objects and they are AreaType:
Set the type in the left textframe. Style as desired.
AltShiftDrag a copy of it rightward. Edit the text. Style as desired.
Set the First Baseline setting (Type>AreaType Options) for both to Leading.
Set the Leading for both to the same value (not Auto).
If you must use two objects and they are PointType:
Set the type in the left textframe. Style as desired.
AltShiftDrag a copy of it rightward. Edit the text. Style as desired.
OR
Add a horizontal ruler guide. Select each PointType objects by its origin point and snap it to the Guide.
I can't get these two to align at the bottom perfectly.
The above, of course, assumes you want the two texts to be aligned by their baselines. If you're talking about having the bottom edges of the glyphs themselves aligned, you'll have to do that by converting to paths and using object alignment commands, or by using baseline shift or other manual workarounds because different glyphs in a font are of different dimensions. For example, the capitals in a given font are not necessarily all the same height; the ascenders and descenders are not necessarily all the same lengths. That's why fonts are designed to "float" upon their em squares.

Hardware Sizing for EBP, MDM Catalog

Hi,
This is for an SRM implementation project in extended classic scenario. The plan is to use all 3 components EBP, MDM Catalogs and SUS.
We are sizing hardware for a mid size company with around 10,000 employee base and USD 350 million of spend to be processed. With not more than 50.000 (X) Purchase orders annually, and therefor assumed Goods confirmation document and invoices to be 100.000 (2X).
We are using Quicksizer tool for sizing. Here are some of the areas which we need to validate-
1. Is there a benchmark or a recommended or empirical percentage (%) of total employee strength that will be concurrent users.
2. What can be the SAPS number range for EBP for a typical mid size company as described above. Any experience with respect to this would be helpful.
3. Quicksizer doesnt suppoer MDM catalog sizing. Any inputs on the same would be useful.
4. We are using EBP sizing template in quicksizer for SUS sizing with object data with respect to SUS. Is this the right approach.

Best Practice for Many Complex Elements In One PNG File

I use Fireworks all the time, but I'm still embarrasingly ignorant on how to do some things property.
For instance, when I do mockups of a new customers homepage, there may be many small or medium sized complex objects on the page. By "objects" I mean like lots of modules advertising their different services, and each module has its own graphics, text, backgrounds, etc all with lots of different effects applied.
Should all of these things reside in one large png file, or does Fireworks offer some way for me to create some of these as separate png files and just drop an "instance" of them into the main file? I read something about adding files to the Common Library, but I will only need these files for one single customer so that may be overkill.
Or do I even need to worry about separating them at all and should just continue having everything for a single customer in one big single png file?
Please let me know if my question is not clear.

In reading a bit further, it looks like a good option for me might be to just select everything that makes up a specific module and just "group" it. That way I can move it around and turn it off and on easier.
So I'm thinking that unless theres something Im going to reusing more than once in a document (which in this case I'm not) then its fine to have everything all in one png? And the only time I use the Common/Document Library is when i'm reusing things?
I'm just trying to wrap my head around what all my options are in Fireworks, as so far my experience is limited to just dragging around rectangles and shapes and stuff on one single canvas to create website mockups.

You may have something disturbing Illy so she gets confused, see Item 7 in 5) below for usual suspects, or you may have what appears to be a preference corruption, see 1) - 4) and 6) below.
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
1) Close down Illy and open again;
2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
Even more seriously, you may:
6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

Import Oracle Financials

When importing an Oracle Financial Database are there any steps that I must take besides sizing the objects correctly.
Do I need to be concerned with Constraints.

Not sure if this is three questions or one-
1) To import data from Financials to OFA you would use the OFA/GL link. This is explained in the OFA documentation.
2) If you want to view Financials data in Discoverer you can use the pre-built EULs that come with the eBusiness suite or if you understand the Financials schema you can create your own EUL by manually selecting tables/columns from the Financials schema. Another option is to use a third-party EUL such as that provided by Noetix.
3) If you want to view OFA data using Discoverer - this is not possible. OFA stores its data in a separate multi-dimensional server, Oracle Express. Discoverer cannot connect to an Express database.

Programmaticaly reposition field in report

Depending on param enetered at r/time I need to programmtically position a field in reports 2.5 (win 95). Is this possible ?
Eg.
If param_1 = 'X' then position field at x-10 y-34 co-ordinates.

The only way you can move an object in Reports is through anchoring it to another object. When these other objects expand or contract, they push/pull other objects to different locations.
In your case, you could place a variable sized boilerplate object with transparent text above it and then add content to that object to push another object down the page. (This will give you the 'y' positioning).
You can also have those two object surrounded by a frame and have another variable sized object to push the frame across the page. (This will give you the 'x' positioning)
Depending on what your requirement actually is this may be tedious to get the exact positioning but it should be possible. Also remember that other objects on the page will push things around as well.

What is the "Live" page and need help in data merge

Im very new to indesign so bare with me. Im trying to data merge (Need to create a merge template?) and from what I understand is that I need it to be on the "Live" page. Someone on the forum suggested this.....
There are two ways to set up the merge template. You can put your placholders on the master page or on the live page. If the placehlders are on the master page, only the frame(s) with the placeholders, along with any other grouped objects, will be duplicated. On the live page, ID will try to duplictate EVERYTHING on the page, so you must be very careful about the setup and sizing of objects.
I would like to be on the LIVE page...how do I do this? I got everything else sorted but cannot get multiple records for the life of me to come up.

I dont know why I cant get this camera for the images to work but I did what you said with Word paint after capturing the page using the keyboard. Unfortunately I cant copy and paste the indesign screen to this page.

Stop images from losing file size when scaled down?

Ive read this tutorial;

and ive just found out that if you scale an image smaller,
the file size is permanently decreased, and enlarging the image
again will make it pixalated. If im working with images and I want
a lot of freedom to play around with the scaling, do I need to
convert them all to grafics?
Is there a setting I can change so that the images are saved
at the display resolution when I export them, but maintain there
full file size when in the document? Is this how illustrator works?

There is no such a thing as a "grafic." In your Fireworks
document, you can have bitmap objects and vector objects. Bitmap
objects, such a photographs, are rectangular objects with detailed
information, where the color and transparency of each pixel is
specified. Vector objects are mathematical objects, where the shape
is determined by nodes and the color is determined by the fill
type. You cannot convert a bitmap object to a vector object
(although you can sometimes create a vector illustration that
resembles a photograph).
If you are still experimenting with your design, what you can
do is add a layer with your original-sized bitmap objects. Put this
layer at the bottom of your stack and keep it hidden. Then, anytime
you feel a need to refresh an object that you've resized too many
times, copy that object from your originals layer. It may not be a
perfect solution, but it should help you.
I've never had a problem with multiply resizing photos,
myself, because I design my layouts with vector shapes first. Once
I have all my proportions set,
then I add any photos I have. With this worflow, I know what
size to make my photos. Of course, I might change my mind, later,
but my process keeps me on track.

2 Languages in 1 folio ?

I'd like to create a folio where the user gets the choice of 2 languages in the beginning (Dutch & French)
After that he or she will be able to read and swipe trough the folio watching movies, playing sounds etc.
But, once chosen for Dutch or French the user must be unable while swiping trough the folio to come up with content from the other language...
I was thinking about MSO's inside of MSO's but that's kinda impossible i guess.

Two apps might be an easier choice.
Or I would use a blank page-sized MSO object on the bottom layer to prevent the user from swiping, and control their navigation with buttons so they don't stumble upon the wrong language.

Heap vs. Stack

why is memory allocation for newely created objects the slowest kind of memory allocation in java?
if, for example, I call a Method containning a single local variable of type int, a stack frame will be allocated with an array of length 1 containing that local variable(and an operand stack + constant pool reference, but that's beside the point). why is this memory allocation faster than creating a new instance of the class Integer? is the stack essentially smaller than the heap(that's for sure), thus being placed in main memory, to which OS runtime has faster access?

Is there a Business Objects XI Release 3.0/3.1 Enterprise Sizing Guide available yet...?
We are trying to plan our hardware budget for next year.
I have reviewed both the BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.0 Deployment Planning Guide, and the BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.0 Deployment Planning Guide - but neither one gives you the actual counts of concurrent and simultaneous connections supported per CPU/Service in 3.0/3.1.

Page 81, one reads : "It is also recommended that you contact your Business Objects sales
representative and request information about the BusinessObjects Enterprise
Sizing Guide. A Business Objects Services consultant can assess your

integrate with your current environment."
Therefore, such a document should exist.

Scale multiple differently sized objects to exact equal dimensions

Hello guys
What I'd like to do is the following: I have a large number (couple of hundreds) of equally shaped but differently sized objects - actually circles - and I'd like to scale them all to the exact same height and width while keeping their positions. Apparently, doing it by hand would take quite a while, so I'm looking for a single command or an automated way of doing it.
I have already tried and excluded the following ways:
- Selecting all objects and playing aroung with the "Transform" box always resulted in the whole selection being scaled.
- Transform each: my objects are all differently sized, so percental scaling is of no use.
- CMD+D: I also tried to do it by first resizing one object and then applying CMD+D to each other object by hand, but this function seems to use percental scaling as well. This means: When I scale one object from 10px to 12px (120%), then select an 8 px object, press CMD+D, the final size of the second object is 9.6px instead of 12px. ARGH.
- Recording an action: I have little experience with actions, but it seems that the result is the same as above when I select all objects (whole selection scaled, instead of each object).
I am using Illustrator CS5 (15.0.2) on a Mac 2.66 GHz quad-core with OSX 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard). I couldn't find a proper thread in this forum (or any other forum), so I'm starting a new one here. Maybe I didn't look properly, so please redirect me if there is one that answers my question.

if they are circles, ovals, rectangles or rounded corner rectangles that is easy
1 Select all the objects.
2. Go to Effect>Convert to Shape and select the shape even if it is the same shape you have already.
3. Select Absolute as the method and enter the dimensions you wish click OK.
4. While still selected go to Object>Expand Appearance.
But if you have fill and a stroke for these circles they will be two separate paths of the same dimesnions each as a group.
So you will have to either accept that or delete the paths you don't want so you will:
1. lock all the art other than the circles
2. Select one of the paths either with the stroke or the fill
2. Go to Select>Same Stroke Weight
3. Hit delete

Business Objects 3.x Enterprise Sizing Guide for Unix

Anyone see or have heard about a 3.x sizing guide specific to Unix? The current 3x sizing guide claims it addresses Unix....but it does not.

I don't believe there's a Sizing Guide specific to Unix. I expect one is supposed to speak to Business Objects Consulting Services for this information.

Automatic "Graphic Frames" Object Sizing

I want to create "graphic frames", or image boxes, on master pages that already define the size of the object to be placed into the frames. For example, in a book, I have many pages, each with several "graphic frames" that will have many, many similar graphics placed into them, and they all need to be sized down to 85% height. Why can't I create master page "graphic frames" that will automatically size graphics placed into them at 85% height? Or, why can't I do this with "Object Styles"? Thank you.

Yes, I also tried this, but unfortunately it doesn't work when you are placing "All" pages of a multi-page PDF. When you are placing multiple pages, InDesign only allows you to place art in it's own, new, "graphic frame", not in an existing frame via the "Replace selected item" option. Nice try though. Thank you.
