RE: task cancellation

Hi,
In addition to previous, you can create a start method from non-window
class, which is going to be your main task, which would start your
windows and non-windows tasks, so if you close one of the windows it will
not affect rest of tasks. So far it works for me very well.
Hope this helps.

Hi,
Task cancellation is a very neat way of exiting cleanly. Infact you can
set the EnableSystemCancel of the TaskHandle class to FALSE, if you don't
want to be cancelled in certain portions of the code. But you should make
sure you reset it to TRUE.
One complexity that gets added is maintaining a list of
EventRegistration and TaskDesc objects for each of the tasks that you
have started and registering and deregistering for the task completion
event registrations dynamically. But it is definitely worth the effort.

Mark,
In the started long-running task, you can catch the CancelException and
do
nothing with it.
For example,
EXCEPTION
when e:CancelException do
// do nothing
From Forte Help:Fort? raises an exception of the CancelException class primarily by
invoking the SetCancel method of the TaskDesc class. A task within an
application can signal another task within the same application to cancel
itself. In a few cases the system generates the signal.
For further discussion, see Using CancelException.
Hope this helps,

Subject: Asychronous tasks
I have a window that starts a number of asychronous tasks. One of
these tasks in particular can take a long time (1-2 minutes) to complete
depending on the current data in the workflow. If the user closes the
window before this tasks completes I get the following message:
USER ERROR: The Shutdown event was post on the task. The task is
not registered for the event and is therefore cancelled.
I have put taskDesc objects on all the asychronously started tasks and in
the task.Shutdown event of the window I, after checking to make sure
the handle isn't NIL, issue a
taskDesc.PostShutdown(SH_TP_TASKANDCHILDREN). This seemed to
clear up the problem.
However this window is called from a higher level menu in the
application. When control is returned to this higher window and the user
closes it, they same shutdown error occurs. I have tried capturing the
task handle of the called window and issuing the PostShutdown there
also, but with no luck.
What am I missing?
TIA,
Mark Nichols

  • Powershell get-azureSqlDatabse InternalError \ task cancelled

    Hi,
        I am using powershell to connect, and administrate,  the SqlDatabases on a server which had been working without problem but now I am unable to connect.
        E.g. with cmdlet (Get-AzureSqlDatabase "servername") I'd expect to get databases but I am getting an internal error and lately a task cancelled error message.
        It returns Client Session Id and Client Request Id, but darned if I know what to do with those - i.e. I have no idea how to understand the error and fix what ever, assumedly, that I am doing wrong.
       I have checked that I have a current subscription; also I can connect to the server and its databases via TFS; just that it no longer likes my powershell.
       I have also tried to re-do the credentials, but to no avail.
      ... any ideas as to how I can proceed?

     Creating a new server and database - no go.
     Running get-AzureSqlDatabaseServer; this works, demonstrating that powershell can connect to the server I'm trying to call.
      Explicitly setting the parameters, e.g. Get-AzureSqlDatabase -ServerName
      Explicitly listing a databse, e.g. Get-AzureSqlDatabase -servername .... -databaseName ....
    Same problem for both.
    n.b.b.b.  Hah!
      Using -connectionContext (after creating the connectionContext by server name with cert auth, which required supplying the user name and password).
    None the less I would still like to know what is wrong with trying  to connect with -servername (and credentials file).
       Also, far as I can see, the connectionContext shows a popup... which for scripts is not quite what I want.  Long and short seems to be that with powershell I am better off working through the .Net assmeblies which is a pity as I'd rather be
    using all them cmdLets that are provided.

  • Customize a task cancellation message

    I want to customize a task cancellation message rather than the default one "A task was canceled".
    My code:
    static void Main(string[] args)
    CancellationTokenSource cancellationTokenSource = new CancellationTokenSource();
    CancellationToken token = cancellationTokenSource.Token;
    Task task = Task.Run(() =>
    while (!token.IsCancellationRequested)
    Console.Write('*');
    Thread.Sleep(1000);
    }, token).ContinueWith((t)=>
    t.Exception.Handle((e)=>true);
    Console.WriteLine("You have canceled the task");
    }, TaskContinuationOptions.OnlyOnCanceled);
    //token.ThrowIfCancellationRequested();
    try
    Console.WriteLine("Press enter to stop the task");
    Console.ReadLine();
    cancellationTokenSource.Cancel();
    //task.Wait();
    catch (AggregateException e)
    Console.WriteLine(e.InnerExceptions[0].Message);
    Console.WriteLine("Press enter to end the application");
    Console.ReadLine();
    The expected task cancellation message is
    You have canceled the task
    My code is not generating it, thanks for help.

    My code? You mean your code. The reason why the "Press enter to end the application" appears before the "You have canceled the task" has nothing do with the fact that the ContinueWith method was never executed which was your original
    question/issue.
    You must wait for the task to complete execution by calling its Wait method before you terminate the application:
    static void Main(string[] args) {
    CancellationTokenSource cancellationTokenSource = new CancellationTokenSource();
    CancellationToken token = cancellationTokenSource.Token;
    Task task = Task.Run(() =>
    while (true) {
    token.ThrowIfCancellationRequested();
    Console.Write('*');
    Thread.Sleep(1000);
    }, token).ContinueWith((t) =>
    Console.WriteLine("You have canceled the task");
    }, TaskContinuationOptions.OnlyOnCanceled);
    //token.ThrowIfCancellationRequested();
    try {
    Console.WriteLine("Press enter to stop the task");
    Console.ReadLine();
    cancellationTokenSource.Cancel();
    //task.Wait();
    catch (AggregateException e) {
    Console.WriteLine(e.InnerExceptions[0].Message);
    task.Wait();
    Console.WriteLine("Press enter to end the application");
    Console.ReadLine();

  • Task.cancel() throw exception

    Hi,
    I'm new to JavaFx and recently try out example on javafx.concurrent.Task:
    Example is from a book:
    The following is the model class
    private static class Model {
            public Worker<String> worker;
            public AtomicBoolean shouldThrow = new AtomicBoolean(false);
            private Model() {
                worker = new Task<String>() {
                    @Override
                    protected String call() throws Exception {
                        updateTitle("Example Task");
                        updateMessage("Starting...");
                        final int total = 250;
                        updateProgress(0, total);
                        for (int i = 1; i <= total; i++) {
                            try {
                                Thread.sleep(20);
                            } catch (InterruptedException e) {
                                if (isCancelled()) //I modified this part to check for isCancelled()
                                    return "Cancelled at " + System.currentTimeMillis();
                            if (shouldThrow.get()) {
                                throw new RuntimeException("Exception thrown at " + System.currentTimeMillis());
                            updateTitle("Example Task (" + i + ")");
                            updateMessage("Processed " + i + " of " + total + " items.");
                            updateProgress(i, total);
                        return "Completed at " + System.currentTimeMillis();
        }On JavaFx, it has 2 Label that are bind to Worker.value and Worker.exception as shown below:
    value.textProperty().bind(
                    model.worker.valueProperty());
                exception.textProperty().bind(new StringBinding() {
                        super.bind(model.worker.exceptionProperty());
                    @Override
                    protected String computeValue() {
                        final Throwable exception = model.worker.getException();
                        if (exception == null) return "";
                        return exception.getMessage();
                });Next: There are 3 buttons "Start", "Cancel" and "Exception". Following is the method to hook up events to all three buttons:
    private void hookupEvents() {
            view.startButton.setOnAction(new EventHandler<ActionEvent>() {
                @Override
                public void handle(ActionEvent actionEvent) {
                    new Thread((Runnable) model.worker).start();
            view.cancelButton.setOnAction(new EventHandler<ActionEvent>() {
                @Override
                public void handle(ActionEvent actionEvent) {
                    model.worker.cancel();
            view.exceptionButton.setOnAction(new EventHandler<ActionEvent>() {
                @Override
                public void handle(ActionEvent actionEvent) {
                    model.shouldThrow.getAndSet(true);
        }Now, first test is when Task is successfully executed. Value label will be filled with the return value i.e: Completed at ......................
    Second is throw exception and the result is as what in the book, the exception label is filled with the exception property. i.e. Exception thrown at ..................
    But when I test the Cancel button, it throws and exception instead of return a String value.
    The exception label is filled with:
    "Task must only be used from the FX Application Thread"
    Instead of having Value label filled with: "Cancelled at .................."
    Can anybody help me please?
    Regards,
    Henri

    i got the same problem and I'm interested in an answer too.
    My Workaround was to have a secon AtomicBoolean-Var
    public AtomicBoolean cancel = new AtomicBoolean(false);
    if (cancel.get()) {
        return "Cancelled at " + System.currentTimeMillis();
    }this code works but it cannot be the answer.

  • Missing Editor for Cancel Email in Start a Task Process object

    I'm using SPD 2013 and the 'Start a task process' object in a list workflow.  I've successfully modified the Task Creation email, but when someone completes the task, others in the group receive the default task cancelled email and I cannot find an
    editor to modify the cancel email.
    I can go to properties to view the CancelationEmailbody field, but there is no way to add or change lookup fields.

    Hi,
    As I understand, you are using SharePoint designer worfklow on 2013 platform and you would like to edit cancelation email body for task process.
    From my experience, there is no OOB option for you to edit cancelation email body. Since workflow 2013 is different from 2010, task forms are auto-generated based upon a certain Content Type. As workaround, I'd recommend you using approval workflow on 2010
    platform. In addition, you could try codeplex 2013 approval workflow, please check the link below:

  • Time required to upload a book order?  When/how should I cancel?

    I created a book in Aperture (62 pages) and placed the order for 4 copies. The "upload" of the order has been running for about 2.5 hours now. I have a cable Internet connection. If I need to cancel this one and restart it, how do I do that? In the activity window, status is stuck at 46% and the pause task/cancel task buttons are greyed out.

    Thanks! Just trying that now, but concerned that there is an order out there somewhere. I have submitted a request to the printing folks (I think) to make sure I don't have duplicate orders out there if/when I attempt this again.

  • Scheduled Tasks - System Idle Timer

    I recently upgraded to Windows 8.1. Unfortunately, my NIC prevents the system from automatically entering Hibernate (if I disable/unplug it the system sleeps properly). To work around this, I thought I would use a Scheduled Task to run shutdown /h after
    x minutes of inactivity (probably an hour).
    I set my task's trigger to be an hourly check indefinitely.
    I set the action to be shutdown /h
    I set the conditions to be:
    Start the task only if the computer is idle for: 1 hour (checked)
    Wait for idle for: Do not wait
    The problem I have found is that the task runs if the computer has been idle for only four minutes as per the Task Idle Conditions states (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa383561%28v=vs.85%29.aspx). In my mind I should leave the
    computer alone, the hour ticks over and the task is initiated. It should then check to see how long the system has been idle for:
    >= 1 hour? Run the task
    < 1 hour? Do nothing until the next hour
    What seems to be happening is it is checking for an idle state and running the task, even if the computer has only been idle for the minimum four minutes.
    Has anyone else found this issue? Are there any ideas on how I can fix this? My next idea is to write a batch file to sleep for an hour and then hibernate and to have the task cancel the batch process when the system is no longer idle. Seems like it could
    work.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi vdboots. The question is regarding Task Scheduling and the idle timer, not the issues my system has with hibernating automatically.
    To answer your query, yes I have disabled all devices from waking the computer. The Microsoft drivers for my NIC for some reason keeps the machine awake. I installed the manufacturer's Windows 7 drivers (of course they didn't release any Windows 8 ones...)
    and the machine would sometimes enter hibernation, but mostly would just stay on. The only way I could get the computer to automatically hibernate was to disable the NIC altogether, but that is hardly a solution.
    As I said, this question is about why Windows doesn't seem to be waiting for 1 hour idle time before initiating the task. The action of the task is fairly irrelevant, in fact for my testing I just launch cmd and run time /t.

  • Starting new task inside an Update Task

    Hi guys,
    I need an expert opinion for a problem I'm facing at the moment.
    The requirement is this: I need to trigger a function module during the update task of a material document.
    This function module however should not slow down the posting of the document, so it must not be in the same LUW, but in a separate task.
    My question is: does it work to call a function module with STARTING NEW TASK inside an UPDATE TASK (for example a user exit) and if it does work, what's your opinion on it? Is if safe? Does it come with problems? According to the SAP documentation, STARTING NEW TASK does not trigger a COMMIT when it's called inside an update task.
    The alternative would be to trigger a work flow, but that's much more work.
    Any input is welcome.
    Thanks.

    Hello Janis,
    Just to reiterate this aRFC call triggers an implicit database commit. So the OP is partially correct
    Klaus Kronawetter we have 2 things which we need to consider -
    Asynchronous RFC triggers a database commit in the calling program.
    Any database commits or database rollbacks that occur within the update task cancel the update.
    Simply put, as per SAP documentation, you cannot use aRFC within an update task.

    Suhas

    It seems this just started, I'm not sure why - I have been using for months and only just received this starting today. I'm not sure what the reason SystemPolicy is.. The only reason I could think of is maybe perhaps I am creating it too early, the frame
    gets created in OnLaunched and no page has been navigated to yet, and then I am just accessing BackgroundMediaPlayer.Current to create the task, and then I navigate to the page shortly after where the BackgroundMediaPlayer.Current event handlers
    are registered. Because it's getting cancelled repeatedly the event handlers get screwed up.
    I'm not running any other app, just mine and i have a Lumia 920 with 1 GB of ram.

    Yes, i did read the documentation.
    But what we have:
         * Attempts to cancel execution of this task.  This attempt will
         * fail if the task has already completed, has already been cancelled,
         * or could not be cancelled for some other reason. If successful,
         * and this task has not started when <tt>cancel</tt> is called,
         * this task should never run.  If the task has already started,
         * then the <tt>mayInterruptIfRunning</tt> parameter determines
         * whether the thread executing this task should be interrupted in
         * an attempt to stop the task.
         * <p>After this method returns, subsequent calls to {@link #isDone} will
         * always return <tt>true</tt>.  Subsequent calls to {@link #isCancelled}
         * will always return <tt>true</tt> if this method returned <tt>true</tt>.
         * @param mayInterruptIfRunning <tt>true</tt> if the thread executing this
         * task should be interrupted; otherwise, in-progress tasks are allowed
         * to complete
         * @return <tt>false</tt> if the task could not be cancelled,
         * typically because it has already completed normally;
         * <tt>true</tt> otherwise
        boolean cancel(boolean mayInterruptIfRunning);
    If successful, and this task has not started when <tt>cancel</tt> is called, this task should never run.
    The "task.cancel(false)" function returns "true". And i think that "this task should never run."
    ut the test fails on the string:
    if (doneTasks.get(i) && task.isCancelled()) fail("Performed task#" + i + " mark as canceled");that showes the task to be really performed.

  • Integrating calendar server with messaging server

    Hi Venigalla,
    You can implement a federated portal network (FPN) using the SAP NetWeaver platform to share content between portals.
    A federated portal network allows organizations with distributed portal installations, both SAP and non-SAP, to provide a single portal access point per user to portal information, services and applications distributed on portals in the network.
    WSRP-based application sharing (FPN Mode used for for integrating content between SAP and Non SAP portals) :-
    -->     Content administrators on a SAP NetWeaver consumer portal can integrate WSRP portlets (i.e. iViews) from remote non-SAP portals into SAP NetWeaver Portal.
    -->      SAP NetWeaver developers can create WSRP compliant iViews that can be consumed in non-SAP consumer portals.
    You may kindly go through the below link, should be helpful:

  • SQL Loader - not working

    I have Oracle 11g R2 running on Windows Server 2008 R2
    In trying to load data (csv file) with SQL Loader in Enterprise Manager it tells me the job completed successfully, but there is no data in the table. The bat file is created as is the ctl and sh file. I have checked that sqldr is in my $ORACLE_HOME$\bin directory and I have checked that this "path" is also in my path environment variable. When I try to run from command line I get not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. I try to run it in SQL Developer and after it runs it says task cancelled. Can you help. I am expecting a 70-90 million record file next week and I want to use SQL Loader.

    Load completed - logical record count 51.

    I usually run SQL*Loader from SQL*Plus, so that it avoids some of the privilege issues. I also use a log file, so that I can check that afterwards to see what happened and why. For example:
    host sqlldr scott/tiger control=test.ctl log=test.log
    A frequent issue is lack of privileges to the data file to be loaded. You can edit a blank file in SQL*Plus and copy and paste the data into it, to eliminate such problems or identify them, so that you can check privileges on the original file.
    To provide much else, we would need more complete information, such as a few rows of sample data, your SQL*Loader control file, and your table structure.

  • Help with setting/getting variables in app

    Hi,
    I have an application which behaves in the following manner:
    1. User logs in.
    2. User is presented with a list of projects; user clicks on a project to drill down to that project.
    3. User is presented with project information which includes 4 separate lists of tasks grouped by week. So there are tasks for the current week the user is in plus task for the 3 weeks out.
    4. User can edit talks or create new ones for each of the 4 weekly groupings.
    Given that, on the main page for a project I have set up a report and form for each of the weekly groupings. I also have an item for the project id as well as each weekly grouping id. The goal there is that when a user clicks the "create" button they can create a new task for the appropriate weekly group. However, this isn't working.
    For the first weekly group when I click "create" I'm presented with the form to fill out for the task. All of the info is there, including the correct id for that weekly group so the task gets assigned to it properly. However, when I save I get an error which says that particular id is null.
    For the next three groups when I click "create" I'm given the same thing as above but without the id for the weekly group. Even if I set it and save things I'm getting the same error.
    So, I'm wondering what I've done wrong in the app flow. Am I setting these variables too early, too late? Am I really not picking them up in spite of what I see on my screen? Have I missed some fundamentals of Apex here?
    Thanks in advance for your time and help.
    Jon
