Re-using toplink code for database adapter

Hi,
I have a project in which multiple BPEL processes will be implemented. Some of them use database adapters to connect to various staging areas.
Is it possible to setup JDeveloper in such a way that I can create the toplink side for the database adapter in a separate project, and include it in the other BPel projects? It seems a waste of resources to recreate the whole toplink business each time I create a database adapter in a project to again the same schema.
Jeroen van Veldhuizen

Because:
1) it is not possible to deploy the same instance multiple times to run in parallel, connecting to different databases simultaneously to start up processes
2) an adapter that polls and a second adapter that writes to the same schema, are using the same datamodel and message model.
Why recreate the whole model over and over again?

• Can I use polling frequency for Database Adapter

I need to use Database Adapter that acts like FileAdapter. Can I set polling frequency for my Database Adapter, so that the adapter can query every 5 secs?

You can use polling feature when you configure your DB adapter Operation Type as "Poll for New or Changed Records in Table"
If you use Adapter configuration wizard it will promot for "Pollling Options" and Polling Frequency is the option which you can configure in seconds, mins or hrs

what kind of database driver (XA or non-XA) should use for database adapter in BPEL? I have only one database adapter and no JMS.

Hi
It depends on wheter you need XA transaction or not.
See http://www.theserverside.com/discussions/thread.tss?thread_id=21385 third reply.
If you only have one database and no synchronous dependency to the caller, non-XA should be OK.

The code they are asking for is the last three digits of the number on the back of the card (you don't use this when using an ATM or presenting the card in shops).

• Dynamic JNDI name for database adapter in BPEL

Hi All,
I am having some major issues trying to make the JNDI location for the database adapter dynamic (10.1.3.4). I already went through the followin link, but that didnt work for me: http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/articles/bpel_cookbook/carey.html
The below example works, but only the first run. Second time around the first runs JNDI value gets retained and connects to that database.
This is what worked atleast the first time.
I parameterized the JNDI with a variable defined in the partnerlink definition in the bpel.xml
In Bpel. xml
<partnerLinkBinding name="updatetbl">
<property name="wsdlLocation">updatetbl.wsdl</property>
<property name="CONN">eis/DB/na</property>
<property name="retryInterval">60</property>
</partnerLinkBinding>
In the updatetbl.wsdl file
<service name="updatetbl">
<port name="updatetbl_pt" binding="tns:updatetbl_binding">
<jca:address location="$CONN"/>
</port>
</service>
At run time I change the partnerlink CONN variable in embedded Java.
try
Element targetAdapterElement =(Element)getVariableData("Invoke_getFromTbl_OutputVariable","getFromTblOutputCollection","/ns2:getFromTblOutputCollection/ns2:getFromTblOutput/ns2:SRC_JNDI");
getLocator().lookupProcess("JndiIssueTest").getDescriptor().getPartnerLinkBindings().getPartnerLinkBinding ("updatetbl").setPropertyValue ("CONN",targetAdapterElement.getTextContent());
("updatetbl").getPropertyValue ("CONN"));
catch(Exception ex)
addAuditTrailEntry("Error is " + ex);
This works fine the first time, but the second time I run it to look at a different CONN value, it somehow still connects using the first runs value!
If I redeploy or clear the WSDL cache, it works. But we plan to run it multiple times from several environment so manually or programatically clearing WSDL is not the right solution.
Can someone tell me what is the standard process of doing this so it works everytime?
Thanks,
Shaf

Shaf,
Please refer the mail thread for details. If you want I can send you(send me your email id) the sample BPEL process which uses Dynamic JNDI.

• Can i use Custom Tags for Database retrieval (as per MVC pattern)?

In our project we are dealing with database, and i've used the Cutom Tags for database retrieval (as per the Article from Mr Faisal Khan) and it is working fine. But i have a doubt if it affects the performance in any way . I wanted to know if its recommendable to use Custom Tags for the DB retrieval as per MVC Pattern or shall i create a intermediate bean and then call the bean in custom tag.
Thanks
Prakash

Putting database code in your JSPs certainly couples your view to the database. That's usually not good.
If it's a simple app, it might be justified.
When you start having lots of pages and complex business logic it becomes less attractive. - MOD

• Using the Service Link Database adapter

I had a question regarding the use of the Service Link database adapter. We've configured an adapter that will write rows to a certain table in an oracle database. The rows are written into the table correctly. I've also configure the inbound portion of the database adapter to retrieve records but there are 2 problems.
1. When creating the SQL that is used to poll the database table, I'm not able to use the channel id namespace. According to the manuals and training materials that I have reviewed, it looks like you should be able to call #channelid# in your query and the system should automatically translate that. I've tried #channelid#, #channel-id#, and #ChannelID# but if doesn't seem to covert the value to the actual channel ID. Can you use namespaces in the polling query?
2. If I setup the queries without namespaces, I can get into the next step where it excutes the sucessful or failed sql query. I setup a simple transformation that automatically closes the assocaited task when the query is run. I then setup a SQL statement to delete all rows in the table (I only did this because I could not target a row without the channelid namepsace working). The problem is that when I submit a task that uses the agent, the agent polls the database and finds the task. The agent then closes the asscaited task, per my transformation, but when it goes to delete all rows in the table, the rows are not removed. If I execute the same SQL using the same account in a SQLPlus window, the rows are deleted so I think that my SQL is good. I'm not sure why it does not work and the only message in the log is:
2010-07-08 15:52:23,677 DEBUG [com.newscale.is.adapter.db] [ AgentId-5 ] Fetched 1 new records
2010-07-08 15:52:23,804 ERROR [com.newscale.is.adapter.db] Outbound Message Failed to deliever
This is my SQL: delete from rcowner.rcapprovals where STATUS_code='Registered'
Any help or advice is apprecaited.
Tim

Hi Tim -
The namespace that you can use comes from the SELECT SQL statement. So you need to write out the Channel ID into a field in the db table (you need it around anyway for the transformation). Then the inbound SQL needs to include the channel ID field in the select statement. Then the success/failure SQL statements can reference the channel ID field from the inbound SQL.
Inbound example: SELECT CHANNEL_ID FROM MYTABLE WHERE STATUS = 2
success example: UPDATE MYTABLE SET STATUS=3 WHERE CHANNEL_ID=#channel_id#
(Note that it seems to convert field names to all lower case. And the #channel_id# is just referencing the field from the other query -- it isn't a namespace or anything.)
Your delete statement probably isn't working because the db connection is still using the records from the inbound query. Its looping through each record from the inbound query and performing the transformation, then running the success/failrue sql before going onto the next record.

• Password indirection for database adapter

Does the database adapter support the use of thge password indirection feature? I refer to the topic Creating an Indirect Password in the OC4J J2EE Security Guide, see http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_15/web.1012/b14013/passman.htm#sthref746,
oc4j-ra.xml is not listed.

you will notice a JNDI name for this e.g. eis/DB/... this is used to look at the Application Server configuration. If it doesn't exist then it will use the credentials used as design time. Not good asthe connection will be fore development mainly.
you can safely remove the mcf setting from the wsdl so it will always force the AS connection. this is good practice.
To configure the AS configuration there is the oc4j-ra.xml file for the DB adapter. Or you can configure in Enterprise Manager
EM -> oc4j_soa (home if basic install) -> Administration -> JDBC Resources
configure a connection pool and data source
then create a JNDI name entry for the DB adapter
EM -> oc4j_soa (home if basic install) -> Applications -> Drop Down box select Adapter Resources -> DB Adapter
Use the examples. You will see that the connect string = jdbc/DBName

• Using generic format for database links in ODI Procedures

Hi,
As in procedure we use
create table <%=odiRef.getSchemaName("Target Schema","D")%>.TABLE2 as
select * from <%=odiRef.getSchemaName("Staging Schema","D")%>.TABLE1
where Staging Database and Target Database are logical schemas which will associate to respective physical schema while execution so the above statement will become as
create table Target_Schema.TABLE2 as
select * from staging_Schema.TABLE1
I just wanted to know if there is any way by which i can apply samethings for Database Links also.
Like if i have statements
create table TABLE2@Target_Database as
select * from TABLE1@staging_Database
can i replace DB links like Target_Database and Staging_Database?
Help would be appreciated. :)
Thanks,
Mahesh

I am not entirely sure about the exact requirement.
Any way ..
1.
create 2 variable .
v_get_src_schema : select '<%=odiRef.getSchemaName("<your_src_logical_schema>","D")%>' from dual
v_get_tgt_schema : select '<%=odiRef.getSchemaName("<your_tgt_logical_schema>","D")%>' from dual
2.
2 more variable to get the required DBLink
v_SRC_DB_LINK: select DB_LINK from all_db_links where owner='#PRJ_CODE.v_get_src_schema'
v_TGT_DB_LINK: select DB_LINK from all_db_links where owner='#PRJ_CODE.v_get_tgt_schema'
3.
create a procedure :
prc_create_table :
create table <%=odiRef.getSchemaName("Target Schema","D")%>.TABLE2@'#PRJ_CODE.v_TGT_DB_LINK' as
select * from <%=odiRef.getSchemaName("Staging Schema","D")%>.TABLE1@'#PRJ_CODE.v_SRC_DB_LINK'
4.
Create a package :
Connect all the steps in serial with OK line.
Execute and let us know what is the out come .

• Why do I have to use security code for wifi router each time I turn on iPad 3?

Why do I have to enter wifi security code for my router each time I turn on ipad3? I have checked all the settings I could but is this a router problem?

If you're hiding your network SSID and/or using WEP security, I think these can cause this problem. If you're hiding your SSID, there's really no point in doing that since there are ways people can easily see it if they're looking to do harm anyway. If you're using WEP security, consider changing to WPA2 which is much more secure than WEP.

• I have some movies I used redempetion codes for in iTunes on my computer hard drive, but they are not showing up on my Purchased list nor in the Cloud. I am concerned if something should happen to my computer that the movies will be lost.

Like the topic says, in the past year, I have used redemption codes on blu-rays I have purchased in iTunes and downloaded copies of the movies to my desktop. The problem is I am not seeing them in the Cloud if I want to watch them on my iPad or Apple TV. It also worries me that should my computer crash, the movies are lost since the codes are already redeemed. Advice?

I can only answer your first issue. In your ipad go to settings, iTunes & App Store, click on your Apple ID and sign out. Wait a few minutes and then log back in. The hidden apps shouldn't show any more on your ipad.

• Should I use Process/Mapper or Pure Java Code for XI Adapter?

Hi Friends,
I'm developing a XI Adapter which including sending http request and also data transform, I prefer to implement all the functions by Java Code.
But In NetWeaver XI Server, I find there are tools for creating process and mappers, they also can implement the same functions as Java Code.
So what's your consideration on implementing a function by process or Java code?
Thanks in advance.
Best Regards,
Jason

Hello Jason.
It is a huge job to create your on adapter and I would recommend you to use the default installed adapters whenever possible. Included in the default installed adapters are to name a few; HTTP, FTP, File, SOAP, RFC and IDOC.
Which kind of messages are you transferring with XI? If it's simple XML structures I would recommend you to use Graphical Message Mappings or XSL. If your structures are a bit more complex or if your are transferring byte-structure files I would recommend you to use Java Mappings.

• How to set polling interval for database adapter in interconnect?help plz!!

Hi
i have 4 database adapters with same name subscribing to same event in 4 different interconnect instances(i.e., same business event and application event in different hubs) and pointing to same source application database , same destination application database.
source application database have one oai bridge schema.When a message has to be sent,message will be enqueued in messageobjecttable.This message can be taken by 4 databse adapters.and send to 4hubs then 4 messages will be sent to destination application instead of single message.
To avoid this,I want to set database polling interval in 4 adapters sych a way that if one adapter take message in MESSAGEOBJECT TABLE,the other three adapters don't pick same message.
this way i can avoid redundacy at destination application.Please reply soon
Thanks

You would seem to have an extremely unusual use case for interconnect. The whole purpose of Interconnect is to concentrate the message processing into one hub and distribute the message to those applications interested in it. The use of 4 hubs from one application is probably not supported for precisely the reasons you are having trouble. Can you give us more details of your use case?
I am not sure that adjusting the polling interval for the different adapters will help. Since at some point you will get a collision where 2 or more adapters poll at the same time.
