Re:variants in processchains

Hi Gurus,
can anyone explain me in detail what is really a variant in process chains with any example if possible.
Thanks

Hi Apo,
Creating Process Chains
Prerequisites
If you want to include a load process in the process chain, you need to have already created an InfoPackage.
You cannot load flat file data from a client workstation in the background. For this reason, you have stored your data on an application server.
Creating Process Chains
You have the option of creating a process chain in the process chain maintenance screen directly or by using a maintenance dialog for a process:
Creating a Process Chain Directly in the Process Chain Maintenance Screen
You are in the BW Administrator Workbench.
1. Click on the Process Chain Maintenance icon in the AWB toolbar.
The Process Chain Selection dialog window appears.
2. Choose Create.
3. Enter the technical name and a description of the chain, and confirm your entry.
The Add Start Process dialog window appears.
4. Create a variant for a start process.
1. a. On the Maintain Start Process screen, choose whether you want to schedule the chain directly or whether you want to start it using a metachain.
2. b. If you choose to schedule the chain directly, enter the start date value for the chain under Change Selections and save your entries.
The Maintain Start Process screen appears again.
3. c. Save your entries, return to the previous screen and confirm your entries in the Add Start Process dialog window.
You are taken to the Plan View of the process chain maintenance screen.
In the left-hand area of the screen, a navigation area is displayed. In the right-hand area of the screen, the process chain is displayed.
5. Use the drag-and-drop function to add the relevant processes into your process chain.
You use the Process Types function to select the processes. This sorts the process types according to different categories. You can also call up InfoPackages and processes for the data target from the separate InfoSources and Data Targets navigation trees.
If you insert into the chain a process that is linked to additional processes, the respective process variants are generated and inserted into the process chain automatically. These variants are suggestions and can be changed, replaced or removed from the chain if required.
Only if the attribute realignment run is inserted automatically, do you also arrive at the variant maintenance screen.
If you want to specify yourself the processes that are to be included in a chain, choose Settings ® Default Chains, and select the Do Not Suggest Processes option. As a result, the system does not suggest, generate, or insert automatically any processes into the chain. This setting is user-specific.
If the chain that you create does not correspond to the standard, the system displays a warning. You can ignore these warnings if you are sure that you are creating a chain that meets your requirements. Warnings do not affect how the chain operates during runtime.
Your chain is checked in the checking view and during activation. The system tells you if it discovers any errors.
Creating a Process Chain Using the Maintenance Dialog for a Process
You are in the maintenance dialog of a process that you want to include in a process chain.
1. Choose the Process Chain Maintenance pushbutton and create a process variant.
2. Save the variant and go back to the previous screen.
A dialog window appears in which you enter a technical name and a description of the chain that you want to create.
3. Confirm your entries.
The various process categories, the application processes, and collection processes are displayed in the left-hand area of the screen. In the right-hand area of the screen, the process chain is displayed.
If the process that you used to create a chain is linked to additional processes, the respective process variants are generated and inserted into the process chain automatically.
5. Use the drag-and-drop function to insert any additional relevant processes into your process chain.
You use the Process Types function to select the processes. This sorts the process types according to different categories. You can also call up InfoPackages and processes for the data target from the separate InfoSources and Data Targets navigation trees.
Additional Steps to Creating a Process Chain
6. When you add a process, you need to select a process variant or create a new variant. For collection processes, the system determines the variants.
Various functions for working with the process are available from the context menu:
Context Menu Entry for a Process Function Information
Maintain Variants With the exception of the variants in the collection process, you can use this function to change all process variants.
Exchange Variants You can swap the variants for an existing variant or a new variant.
Display Scheduled Jobs Once the process chain is active, you can use this function to display the jobs that have been scheduled.
Display All Jobs After at least one run of the process chain, you can display, for a specific process, all of the scheduled jobs for this process and all of the jobs with which this process was run. You arrive at the job overview from where you call up the relevant job log.
Create Message You can also send messages to an application process of the chain, depending on the success or failure of the process.
1. 1. From the context menu of a process, create an additional process variant of the Send Message type.
2. 2. If you maintain a message, first specify whether you want the message to be sent when the process has been completed successfully or unsuccessfully. Then choose Next.
3. 3. You arrive at a window, in which you can select an existing process variant or create a new one.
4. 4. If you create a new process variant, edit the document that is going to be sent, and maintain a list of recipients.
5. 5. Save your process variant and go back a step.
The message process variant is now assigned to your application process. When the message is sent, the status information and the process log can also be sent.
Wait Time
You use this function only to debug a process run.
Specify how long (in seconds) you want the delay to be between one event being triggered and the next process starting.
You can capture the process by using transaction SM37 (Job Overview) or SM50 (Process Overview).
Remove Process You use this function to remove a process from a process chain.
Manage Data Target You use this function in connection with the following types of process variants
1. • constructing indexes
2. • deleting indexes
3. • constructing database statistics
4. • rolling up filled aggregates
5. • compressing InfoCubes
6. • activating ODS object data
to call up the administration for each of the data targets.
7. Hold down the left mouse button to connect the processes through events.
Before you do this, select the process underneath the process type row, and position the cursor over the required process. When you select the process type row, the whole process is moved into the plan view.
From the context menu of a link, you can display the event or remove the link again. To do this, highlight the link and right-click with the mouse.
8. If necessary, specify whether you want the event to be triggered after the previous process has been completed successfully or unsuccessfully or whether you want the event to be triggered independently of the outcome of the process that precedes it.
9. Under Attributes ®Display Components assign a display component to the process chain.
10. Maintain additional process chain attributes if necessary.
11. Check your process chain in the Check View and make any necessary corrections.
The Legend explains the meaning of the different colors used to display the processes and links.
From the context menu for a process, you can display the messages resulting from the check.
12. Save your process chain if it does not contain any errors.
Result
Your process chain can be activated. After activation, the chain starts in accordance with the start process selections. For example, if you scheduled the start process directly and chose Immediately as the start date value, the chain run starts immediately after activation. In the Log View, you can display the reports for the chain runs.

Yokesh.

  • ProcessChain Start Variant Issue

    Dear Experts
What is work proces and how to tune it?
    Thanks
    Rajesh

First things first, Why should you tune the number of work processes ?
You should tune the number of work processes because they consume system resources. A w.p. consumes memory both on the sap application server and on the database server. In both cases, there is an initial (minimal) amount of memory consumed, even if the w.p. is not active and/or has never been used for actual work. Combine that with the fact thet the sap dispatcher doesn't distribute the work evenly between the wp's. So in effect you may have idle wp's or wp's that do very little work but still consume various system resources.
You can find out just how much initial memory is needed for each wp by using transaction st02 -> detail analysis menu -> storage. In most of the system's I've seen, this initial size is between 5 and 10 Mb. On the db server size , each ddf thread can also consume between 3 and 10 MB of storage. If you have several application servers each having 10 or more idle w.p. this can add up to a significant amount of storage.
Use transaction st02 -> goto -> current local data ->sap cursor cache -> id cache. In this screen you can see the number of sql requests issued by each wp. Wp's with less then 100 requests aren't worth their cost.
    Thanks

  • Transport of ABAP Variants

    Dear all,
we are using an ABAP-Programm in a Processchain with a variant. The variant includes a "Sourcesystem". If we transport the Processchain to the Test-System or Productive-System the entry in the Variant for the Sourcesystem should be changed from perhaps "DBW" to "PBW". Where can i make the mapping for the variant ? (like in  the Transport connection). Is this possible for the Variant ? In SE 80 ?
    Thanks for your help.

How to Start process in ProcessChain Without using Repeat option?

    Se16 -- table:RSPCPROCESSLOG - click on display entries.
Entet the variant, instance start date (this info you can get from the "display message" of PC.
Now execute to display the table entries of RSPCPROCESSLOG.
Next goto SE37 transaction --enter RSPC_PROCESS_FINISH
Take the entries from the above table to set the input parameters of the FM.
    I_logid = log_id(from above table)
    I_type = type(from above table)
i_variant = varaint (from above table)
    i_instance = (from above table)
    Click on F8(EXECUTE)
now the actual process is set to gree and the process chain will be triggered (rest of the PC with out repeating the step from where is was red).

    Hi,
For the subsequnt process to finish U can run a FM: RSPC_PROCESS_FINISH
RSPC_PROCESS_FINISH is a Function Module...........U hav to copy the detals from the table RSPCPROCESSLOG.........

  • ABAP/4 ERROR IN PROCESSCHAIN

Hi experts iam getting error at abap program in processchain
    ERROR: ABAP/4 processor: TSV_TNEW_PAGE_ALLOC_FAILED
and it leads to short dump :
    What happened?
You attempted to extend an internal table, but the required space was
        not available.
    error analysis:
The internal table "\DATA=G_T_AXIS_V2" could not
    be further extended. To enable
error handling, the table had to be delete before this log was written.
As a result, the table is displayed further down or, if you branch to
the ABAP Debugger, with 0 rows.
At the time of the termination, the following data was determined for
    the relevant internal table:
    Memory location: "Session memory"
    Row width: 62
    Number of rows: 2349872
    Allocated rows: 2349872
Newly requested rows: 256 (in 1 blocks)
    Source Code Extract :
    >>APPEND ls_axis TO g_t_axis_v2.
so please give what is the issue why it has happened and let know the solution.
    Thank in advance
    Bharati.

You are trying to run RSCRM_BAPI in a process chain and the program is failing because :
    1. The amount of data is too large or
    2. The query is not executing because it it too large
    See if you can :
    1. Reduce the query data set
    2. Create additional aggregates / indices to make the query run faster.
The query and its filter conditions can be found by going to the ABAP variant in the process chain

  • Process chain--how to schedule the variant even if there is no repeat opt.

    Hello Gurus,
Can anybody help me out like the issue was...
when monitoring the process-chain,the variant-load infopackage was successfully completed the status was green, and next to that there was a update from the PSA variant and then to that there is a ATTR.chane run variant, process chain strucked at these two variants.when i look into that there was no repeat option on both the variants.        so how could i schedule that from at that point.
Thanks in advance for the solution!
    Regards,
    Dilip

    Hi Dilip,
You have to do the remaining process steps manually.
If the the failed process step is loading proces step, then make the QM status of that upload to Red and then refresh the process chain.. Some times you will get the repeate option with that.
Or else end the process as described below:
When ever the load fails in a process chain we need to check whether its a load error or a non-load error. For load we need to rectifie the error manually nd need to run the program which is given SAP SE38.
RSPC_PROCESS_FINISH for this we need to pass some parameters.
like process chain name. variant, instance and the status. Here status we will give as 'G'. so that chain can identify that the previous process has been successful nd run the remaining processes automatically.
    Refer the below Blog
    Blog for this : /people/siegfried.szameitat/blog/2006/02/26/restarting-processchains
Assign points if it help you.

  • Layout variant is not working in background in ALV report

    Hi,
I have one LAV report to send the report output through mail in foreground and backgroud.Final internal table is having 46 fileds to display the output. But here user is saving the layout variant and sending that layout variant output to mail id in excel format with zip file. Its working in foreground. But in background its not working.Even if we select the layout variant, its sending all the 46 fileds to mail.
here we have used the below FM to update the fieldcat itab.
    CALL FUNCTION 'REUSE_ALV_GRID_LAYOUT_INFO_GET'
        IMPORTING

    hi ,
    Do according to this
    SORT t_ekbe by belnr.
if  t_ekbe[] is not initial  .
          SELECT  MBLNR
            BWART
            SMBLN

erfme     " This is the new added field
INTO CORRESPONDING FIELDS OF TABLE t_mseg
        for all entries in t_ekbe
          from mseg
          where mblnr = t_ekbe-belnr
          AND   bwart = '101'.
      endif.
    after this
    loop at t_ekbe .
    loop at t_mseg  where mblnr  = t_ekbe-belnr .
      t_ekbe-ERFMG = t_mseg-ERFMG .
    t_ekbe-erfme =   t_mseg-erfme  .
modify t_ekbe transporting ERFMG  erfme .
    clear t_mseg .

  • How to create a variant to a maintenance view (trans: SM31)

    Hi gurus.
I have created a maintenance view (called z_jest). By running it from SM31 there is a variant option. However, I am not able to create the variant which I want to filter a selection upon in this transaction.
I have even looked into transaction SE54 and created a variant for the maintenance table view there( called z_jestv). Then going back to transaction SM31 and view z_jest, i push 'Variant' radiobutton and type as variant: 'z_jestv', I only get the message: "Variant z_jestv for object z_jest does not exist".
Can anybody please advice on how to create and/or connect the variant to the maintenance view?
    Regards LL.

    Hi Mahalakshmi
    Thanks for reply.
When I look into the procedure, there is a prerequisite: "The basis dialog for which the maintenance variant is created already exists."
I am a little bit unsertain if I miss this 'Basic dialog'. Can you please advice on how to check / create this 'basic dialog' before I go on to create the variant. (I need this 'basic dialog' as input in the procedure you sent.)
(Note: I have already created a 'maintenance dialog' for the view, but I have a feeling, that is something different...)

  • How to Save Multiple Variants for a Report at a time?

    Hi Experts,
I have a report in one server and I have copied the same into another server.
And now I also have to copy the variants of that report.
There are totally 192 variants for the report. So, is there any easier way to copy all those variants for the new report that I have created, rather than re-creating the variants one-by-one manually.
Note:There is no connection to both the servers. So I cannot transport them.
    Thanks in advance.

Basis can do a export and import transport, still if don't have connection between boxes.

The above entries cover all the dates in calendar year 2009, that is, Jan 2009 to Oct 2009  is covered by periods 10 to 52 and Nov 01 2009 to Dec 31 2009 is covered by period 1 to 9 of the following fiscal year 2010.
Inspite of making sure that all the days of 2009 are covered by periods 1 to 52. We are still unable to save the FYV.
    Please help!

Hello, I am getting this error while saving the FSV. My FSV is based on Weeks. Below is what I am inputting for this. Other details are Calender Year -  2017, No. of posting periods - 53, checked year dependent. Also, I have FSV for previous years also where weeks are 52 but configured as 53. So, hope that this is not creating this issue. Solicit your early response.
