First of all please verify that you have got a 802.11n card in your computer. New generation devices speaks an entirely different language with 802.11g cards, so while those adapters can work with new generation devices, but they are not optimized to provide good performance. It is like having to translate from one language to another in real time when going from N to G.
Second, optimize the wireless settings on the router first.
1. Connect to your router's admin interface. Usually 192.168.1.1. The default user-name is blank; default password is "admin" (without the quotes).
2. Click on the Wireless tab and do the following changes.
For Channel Settings of 2.4 GHz you can make Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 6, 9, 11..
For Channel Settings of 5 GHz you can make Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 40 or 161...
3. Click on Save settings.
The Linksys Wireless Range Extender and wireless router or access point’s wireless settings should match in order for them to work properly. You must first identify the following wireless settings of your router:
• Wireless Network Name (SSID)
• Wireless Channel
• Wireless Security Mode (WPA/WPA2 Personal or WEP)
• Network Key or Passphrase

Lastly and most importantly, remember that in order to get the best performance from an RE1000 you need to place the extender in an area where you still have at least 50% signal strength to your router when you place it in the final location where the RE1000 will be used. To configure the RE1000 you will need to login to the UI after you have put the RE1000 in the final location to verify the signal strength below is a reminder about signal bars and what they mean as a reminder
For ALL configurations you should have between 2-3 bars of signal at the very least. If you have less we will need to move the RE1000 closer to the router. You can also check the status on the status page of the RE1000 as well. On the status page it measures both Signal Strength and Signal Quality. If either set of bars is red you must move the RE1000 closer to the Router.

  • RE1000 Will Not Connect to WLAN after firmware upgrade

    I upgraded the firmware on my RE1000 to v1.0.02 a few days ago; now, the RE1000 will not connect to my WLAN.  The automatic CD program is useless; it won't see my WLAN.  Manual configuration goes slightly better, but still no luck.  If I try to connect via Wireless --> Site Survey, it sees the SSID (and a few others in range) and says it's connecting, but when I go to Status --> WLAN Statistics the status of the link is shown as down (router also confirms no DHCP lease given out).  When I try to configure the connection manually via Wireless --> Basic Wireless Settings, same results -- link down.
    I've tried configuring a static IP (vice DHCP) but no change in result.  One odd thing I've noticed is that in the WLAN Statistics page, "Wi-Fi Protected Setup" is still showing as "On" despite it being set to off.  Not sure if that has anything to do with it, but either way this is getting wretchedly annoying...

    I am trying to set up a LInksys RE-1000 for a user who has a working Linksys WRT-54G wireless router which is working perfectly fine both wirelessly and wired. This RE-1000 product was purchased after checking the RE-1000 owner's manual PDF download which confirms it is supposed to work with Wireless-N, G and B though with slower speeds with G and B.
    However, the RE-1000 does not connect to the WRT-54G at all using manual configuration with a network cable connected to the RE-1000. After entering all the correct parameters under the WIRELESS - BASIC WIRELESS SETTINGS page that matches the WRT-54G wireless security settings fully, the RE-1000's STATUS - WLAN STATISTICS page simply continues to show that the RE-1000 is "CONNECTING..." but never goes to CONNECTED status. Checking the RE-1000's STATUS - DEVICE INFO page shows that IP address, subnet mask and default gateway are all 0.0.0.0, which seems to confirm there is no successful connection between the RE-1000 and the WRT-54G via wireless-G band.
    The firmware on the RE-1000 is already 1.0.02 from factory. Calling Linksys phone support was useless because the phone agent in the Philippines simply gave pre-scripted generic suggestions such as upgrading the firmware on the RE-1000 and the WRT-54G, when the WRT-54G's firmware was already updated to the latest available version.
    Can anyone from confirm whether the RE-1000 is capable of connecting to the WRT-54G wirelessly? Or does the RE-1000 require specific wireless routers to connect successfully with? I did not notice that the product / system requirements stated anything about this.
    My experience so far with the RE-1000 wireless extender product has been unsatisfactory so far and I am an advanced user with the Linksys router.

  • WRT300N Router will not configure during setup

    I have a WRT300N Router Version 1.1, when reinstalling this on my computer after a crash I cannot get the setup to complete.  When the setup goes throught the config stage it gets to 99% and then stops and gives me an error message that it would not configure. 
    I have updated the firmware and this still will not get it to work.  What can I do? 

    After a firmware upgrade, you must reset the router to factory defaults, then setup the router again from scratch.  If you have not done this since your last firmware upgrade, please do this now and see if it corrects your problem.  If you saved a router configuration file, DO NOT use it.
    To reset the router press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

    With that one, let's try the following procedure.
    First, head into your Add/Remove programs and uninstall your QuickTime. If it goes, good. If it doesn't, we'll just attend to it when we attend to iTunes.
    Next, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility:
    Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
    Now launch Windows Installer CleanUp ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"), find any iTunes and/or QuickTime entries in the list of programs in CleanUp, select those entries, and click “remove”.
    Next, we'll manually remove any leftover iTunes or QuickTime program files:
    (1) Open Local Disk (C:) in Computer or whichever disk programs are installed on.
    (2) Open the Program Files folder.
    (3) Right-click the iTunes folder and select Delete and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion.
    (4) Right-click the QuickTime folder and select Delete and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. (Note: This folder may have already been deleted if QuickTime was successfully removed using Add/Remove Programs earlier.)
    (5) Delete the QuickTime and QuicktimeVR files located in the C:\Windows\system32\ folder. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue. (Note: These files may have already been deleted if QuickTime was successfully removed using Add/Remove Programs earlier.)
    (6) Right-click on the Recycle Bin and on the shortcut menu, click Empty Recycle Bin.
    (7) Restart your computer.
    Now try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly now?

    99.9% of the time, the cause of this issue is the fact the phone was jailbroken/hacked to unlock it for use on networks other than the network the phone was originally locked to. Apple maintains a database of officially unlocked iPhones, and when Apple's servers detect phones such as yours, activation stops & you get the message you got.
    So, you need to get a sim card from the carrier the phone was originally locked to, or get it officially unlocked, if you want to activate it. Because it appears that it was not officially unlocked.

  • WRE54G v1 will not configure

    After trying all sorts of thing to get my 54G v1 RE configured, I came to this site. After going thru alot of ??'s, I found that I had tried them all except pushing the RESET and AUTO CONFIG at the same time, so tried that. It not only RESET the normal settings, it also CHANGED the MAC address. The orig MAC was 00-12-17-7b-be-f7, now it's 00-90-4c-60-04-00, how is this possible? I have tried to configure this v1 RE with the v1 software and I have never gotten past the SEARCH for a RE, it has never found it. I already have a v2 in use, (I'm trying to chain them) and if I use the v2 software, I can get all the way thru to the CONGRATS screen. Even tho' I get thru the set-up and the lights work like they should, I can not get past the v1 RE. I have tried to configure it to the router and also to the v2 RE, both come out the same. I have tried to configure to an unencrypted router, same results. I have also tried to go thru the web based set-up, but as I have never been able to ping the v1 RE, I can not use the web based. I have tried to leave the IP/SUBNET/GATEWAY address's in the default (reset) #'s and also trying #'s to correlate with my other RE and router, no difference. I think that covers everything, anybody have ideas? I wasn't confused until the MAC address got changed, now I don't know what to think. THANKS FOR YOUR TIME.

    OK, I'm not sure if I missed understood previous instructions or what, but I now have this REv1 working. I tried doing what I do for my REv2 but over the wireless card and couldn't get the REv1 working correctly. I tried configuring it to the encrypted router that I'm on and also to the REv2 that I am using. I tried configuring it to a different router that wasn't encrypted, but still couldn't get on-line. I WAS able to get thru the set-up Wizard only once after doing a "factory" reset, and that with my v2 software. If I used the v1 software or tried to configure the REv1 with the v2 software without re-setting, the software NEVER found a WRE54G to configure. When I was able to get thru a config, the lights would work correctly, a blinking blue light for activity and a red for no signal, etc, but was never able to get anywhere. I was NEVER able to get to the web-based set-up page even trying the /backdoor.asp, it would never ping and the arp -a log would be all wrong, (the router MAC was all 0's). Since I had always figured it should be configured into/with the other RE and router, I kept trying to go that route. Well this is what I finally did to get the REv1 working. I set-up the equipment like this; router---->REv2------>me------->REv1 I left my wireless card's IP/SUBNET/Gateway etc address's as they are for normal use thru the REv2/router. *I did a "factory" reset on the REv1 *I started the v2 software and did the normal steps, *confirmed my wireless connection/address, ( NORMAL configuration) *entered my WEP 128bit password *when the REv1 was found, clicked yes *entered (admin) on the PASSWORD screen here is where things are different from a normal configuration *I set the IP address for the REv1 from 192.168.1.240 to 1 number less then the IP address of the REv2, (in my case it was 192.168.5.97). *I then set the GATEWAY from 192.168.1.1 to the REv2 IP address (192.168.5.98). I'm not positive on this order but, *When the screen came up that asked for the MAC address of the AP, (v1 only), I entered the MAC for the REv2. (this screen didn't always come up, but I entered that address every time). *finished running the set-up Wizard. I wasn't too hopeful after all the tries that I had done, but to my surprise, I was finally able to get on-line, ping the REv1, get to the web-based page and have the REv1 show up in the arp -a log. I had never tried to change the GATEWAY address to anything but the router's IP address and even tried leaving it at 192.168.1.1, but then it struck me that if I give the REv1 the MAC address for the REv2, I should set the GATEWAY to the REv2 IP address. So, I believe the main problem I had was the setting of the GATEWAY in the REv1 set-up. Even tho' I tried the auto-config to a "open" router, I just was not able to get "inside"/thru the REv1 until I set the GATEWAY to the REv2's IP address. this is my final set-up/use router------>REv2------>REv1------>me I still don't know why configuring it to a unencrypted router either with the AUTO CONFIG, the set-up WIZARD or why I couldn't access it through the web based even after running the v2 software Wizard with the "open" router, all I know is that what I did above worked, not only once, but twice (I did a Firmware update after the first and had to do it for a second time).   • C6250 on Win XP will not configure and install

    I installed  HP Photosmart Full Feature Software and Drivers ver 10.0.1.
    Doing a network install, the application sees the printer as a network device.
    However, as it tries to configure and install, I get an ERROR, all it shows me is a large red "X" between the printer and the router, not other information.
    I am running Win XP 32 bit on an HP (Compaq) 6910p Notebook.
    I downloaded the  HP Home Network Diagnostic Utility and I was able to send a command to the printer to print a diagnositc page (from my notebook, wireless)
    I have uninstalled and reinstalled 2 times.  I tried downloading this patch :   Critical Update to Correct a PC to Printer Communication Issue  but it faied.  I tried downloading this update:  Critical Update to Enhance Reliability of Network and USB Connectivity and Improve System Responsive...  but it told me I had no SW that required this update.
    Any ideas ?

    It sounds like you are unable to scan and that is why you need to install the printer.  One problem I've seen is that a mutlifunction adapter for your product can be in the device manager prior to installation and that causes the device to fail to install.  To open the device manager, go to the control panel and then click device manager (or hold the windows key and press the pause key, then click device manager).  Once device manager is open, click the view menu and then click the "Show hidden devices" item.  You should now see an item in the list in the main window for Multifunction adapters.  Look for an entry under Multifunction adapters of "Photosmart C6250".  If you find this entry, right-click on it and select "Uninstall" from the drop down menu.  Now try to install the printer by inserting you CD and selecting "Add a device".  The install should now succeed.  If you didn't find an entry for your printer under multifunction adapters then your problem is elsewhere.

    Do you have connection from your DB server to metalink? This could typically happend if you have no connection between your db server and the internet.

  • DHCP Will Not Configure

    Today, my macbook stopped connecting to wireless networks via DHCP. Whenever I select DHCP for the AirPort connection, the computer automatically switches to "Using DHCP with Manual Address." I am a linux network admin, but I don't have extensive experience with mac.
    In addition, a simple command line argument, such as "ipconfig set en1 DHCP" sets the interface to DHCP momentarily (ie. 3-4 seconds), but then reverts back to whatever static IP I had set before. Does anyone know if mac has the equivalent of a /etc/networks/interfaces?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
    It might help to reset the connection settings on your Mac using these steps one at a time until the problem is resolved, recognizing that, depending on your problem, not all of these steps will make sense:
    1) Use the AirPort menu bar item to turn AirPort off, then on again.
    2) Try to select your Wi-Fi network from the AirPort menu.
    3) In the Network panel of System Preferences delete the AirPort item from the left column, then add it back.
    4) In the same panel as (3), define a new location and see if you can make that work.
    5) In the same panel, select the AirPort connection item, click the "Advanced" button, select the "TCP/IP" tab, then click "Renew DHCP Lease".
    6) In the folder /Library/Preferences ( not <yourhomefolder>/Library/Preferences), move the folder SystemConfiguration onto the Desktop, then restart your computer. See if you can now make your AirPort connection work.
    They may not help, but they'll only take a couple of minutes to try. Before you try these, if you have any special network settings on your Mac for things like DSL credentials, note all your network settings, because the latter steps will destroy them. If you got all the way to the last step, if things don't work any worse than before, you can trash the saved SystemConfiguration folder.
    Does anyone know if mac has the equivalent of a /etc/networks/interfaces?
    There is a file called /etc/networks, but on my Mac it only contains a loopback entry. The files in /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration may be the closest that you'll get on a Mac.

  • USB Ethernet will not configure

    Hello,
    Today I started to have problems with my USB Ethernet dongle on my Yosemite Macbook Pro Late 2013 Retina.   I deleted the device from Network Utility then rebooted thinking I would re-initialze it.  After rebooting, the System Info recognizes the USB LAN device but Network Utility does not list it.  This appears to be software issue.  I have confirmed the dongle works fine on another laptop (Windows).  Any ideas how to fix this issue?

    The driver is built into Mac OS X.  The dongle worked fine for weeks on Yosemite.  It is a Cable Matters Cable Matters USB 2.0 to 10/100 Fast Ethernet

    I see you are having issues with your communication between your printer and computer.  I would like to help!
    First, I would suggest Uninstalling the Printer Software.
    Once it is uninstalled, I would recommend resetting the print system.  For more information on how to go about that, you can utilize this document: Mac OS X: How to reset the printing system.
    I would then suggest verifying and repairing your disk permissions.  You can use this document: About Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions feature.
    I would also ensure that you have performed your Apple Updates: OS X: Updating OS X and Mac App Store apps.
    Once those steps are all performed, I would recommend reinstalling the software using the HP Deskjet Full Feature Software and Drivers - Mac OS X 10.6, OS X 10.7, OS X 10.8.

  • Inventory DB will not Configure after 6.5sp4a

    I've recently installed NetWare 6.5sp4a on my zen server and it's broken
    my inventory. When I attempt to configure the DB ConsoleOne hangs (both
    on admin workstations and the server itself).
    There are no errors on the ZEN Inventory screen - however, the logging
    isn't very verbose. (Does anyone know the command to enable verbose
    logging on the Inventory screen?)
    I have the SP4 backed up and can rev back - However, I would rather see
    if the problem can be resolved and use backing out of the service pack as
    a last resort.
    Has anyone seen this or had similar problems?

  • ITunes will not configure after upgrdade to 8.0.2

    I upgraded iTunes to 8.0.2 this morning. After install, is says
    Windows is configuring iTunes and asks me to reboot - and this
    is an endless loop now. I have tried completely de-installing
    and re-installing iTunes - but still the same problem. Any one

    I have exactly the same problem since downloading the upgrade earlier today. I've also uninstalled and reinstalled to try to fix it but all I keep getting after it has nearly completed loading (which takes a frustrating amount of time each time) is a repeat instruction to re-boot in order to complete the configuration and I've had enough of the endless 'loop' that you refer to. It worked fine before the upgrade but I can't go back!
