Read a single digit in a row of numbers

Hi, is there a format or check the second digit in row.
For example:
input 123456;
I want to get '2' from the row and out put as an ID
All help is greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
LJ

Oh darn, a less obfuscated one has been posted already!And I was disappointed that you made no attempt to use the fact that "1" will be used more often than the other digits. Great efficencies can be made although giving a result that is only probably (*) true.

  • Problem with retrieving single digit date and month

    Hello Sir,
    I have the following code. Cuurently when I insert date in this format 1984/11/14 and also in this format 1984/11/4 and retrieve the following two dates, I could successfully populate the dates into the corresponding fields in the form. But earlier in the database, there are some records created in the following formats:
    1984/3/1 and 1987/10/4(i.e.,yyyy/mm/dd).In the form when I try to populate them into their corresponding fields I am able to populate only 1984 into the year filed in the first case and in the second case I could populate 1987 and 10 into the year and month fields. I could not populate the values of the records with single digit either in month or day fields.
    By observing the code, could you let me know what needs to be done in order to populate the previously created records with the single digit month and date.
    This is the jsp for creating and editing the records.

    Hello Sir,
    I have the following code.

    How do I change the background of a single cell or a row in a
    table? I doesn't seem to be letting me do that.

    Are you using the latest DW? If so, then it isn't letting you
    because
    bgcolor is deprecated and shouldn't be used.
    The correct way is to use css to define the background of a
    cell
    CSS:
    .blackcell {background-color: black;}
    HTML:
    <td class="blackcell">whatever in the cell</td>

  • Loading single digit months with SQLLDR

    How can I load dates with the month having a single digit using sqlldr??
    62305220507 in this example the date is 23-Jun0-05 22:05:07
    111804115452 in this example the date is 18-Nov-04 11:54:52
    I've tried the date mask mmddyyhh24miss but only the double digit months get loaded.
    Thanks,
    Paul

    How about something like this
    my_date CHAR "to_date(lpad(:my_date, 12, '0'), 'mmddyyhh24miss')"P.S. And maybe you should consider to use RR rather than YY for the two digit year?

  • Single digit modification dates, date & time corruption

    I have an iBook G4 running the latest version of Tiger, and I have a Date corruption that I can't resolve. When I click the Menu Bar to show the date, it only displays a single digit # (currently 3). When I open Date & Time in System Preferences, the calendar correctly shows the date, but the date is always listed in the box above as the 13th of the month. I can manually adjust the date in the calendar and it will stay, or have it set automatically, and it will work, but the date is always listed as the 13th of the month. Here's the confusing part: All dates in the Finder are listed as single digit #s. the modification and creation dates of everything in the finder are a number between 1 and 5. I've deleted date preference files in the user and universal libraries, and problem persists.
    Anyone have any ideas?

    Jeffrey,
    Experiment with your settings in System Preferences...>International>Formats>Dates>>Customize... and Calendar>Gregorian.

  • Diffrence b/w select single & select upto one row

    hi
       wat is the diffrence b/w select single & select upto one row?
    deepak

    Hi,
    Select single has to be used with a where condition that has all the key fields:
    It will always return a unique record(If a match is found).
    Select upto 1 rows would get your the first record if multiple matches are found.
    and select up to has to be end with endselect statements.
    According to SAP Performance course the SELECT UP TO 1 ROWS is faster than SELECT SINGLE because you are not using all the primary key fields.
    select single is a construct designed to read database records with primary key. In the absence of the primary key, it might end up doing a sequential search, whereas the select up to 1 rows may assume that there is no primary key supplied and will try to find most suitable index.
    The best way to find out is through sql trace or runtime analysis.
    Use "select up to 1 rows" only if you are sure that all the records returned will have the same value for the field(s) you are interested in. If not, you will be reading only the first record which matches the criteria, but may be the second or the third record has the value you are looking for.
    The System test result showed that the variant Single * takes less time than Up to 1 rows as there is an additional level for COUNT STOP KEY for SELECT ENDSELECT UP TO 1 ROWS.
    The 'SELECT SINGLE' statement selects the first row in the database that it finds that fulfils the 'WHERE' clause If this results in multiple records then only the first one will be returned and therefore may not be unique.
    Mainly: to read data from
    The 'SELECT .... UP TO 1 ROWS' statement is subtly different. The database selects all of the relevant records that are defined by the WHERE clause, applies any aggregate, ordering or grouping functions to them and then returns the first record of the result set.
    Mainly: to check if entries exist.
    When you say SELECT SINGLE, it means that you are expecting only one row to be present in the database for the condition you're going to specify in the WHERE clause. so that means, you will have to specify the primary key in your WHERE clause. Otherwise you get a warning.
    SELECT UP TO 1 ROWS is used in cases where you just want to make sure that there is at least one entry in the database table which satisfies your WHERE clause. Generally, it is meant to be used for existence-check.
    You may not want to really use the values returned by the SELECT statement in this case (thought this may not necessarily be so).And in each case the database optimizer may choose a different strategy to retrieve the data.
    Knowing when to use SELECT SINGLE or SELECT ... UP TO 1 ROWS
    A lot of people use the SELECT SINGLE statement to check for the existence of a value in a database. Other people prefer to use the 'UP TO 1 ROWS' variant of the SELECT statement.
    So what's the difference between using 'SELECT SINGLE' statement as against a 'SELECT .... UP TO 1 ROWS' statement ?
    If you're considering the statements
    SELECT SINGLE field INTO w_field FROM table.
    and
    SELECT field INTO w_field FROM table UP TO 1 ROWS. ENDSELECT.
    then looking at the result, not much apart from the extra ENDSELECT statement. Look at the run time and memory usage and they may be worlds apart.
    Why is this ?? The answer is simple.
    The 'SELECT SINGLE' statement selects the first row in the database that it finds that fulfils the 'WHERE' clause If this results in multiple records then only the first one will be returned and therefore may not be unique.
    The 'SELECT .... UP TO 1 ROWS' statement is subtly different. The database selects all of the relevant records that are defined by the WHERE clause, applies any aggregate, ordering or grouping functions to them and then returns the first record of the result set.

    Select Single
    You need to mention all the key fields of the table.
    No END SELECT required.
    More performance compared to upto 1 row.
    Where as UP to 1 row.
    YOu can use if you do not have all the primiary key fields available.
    END SELECT requeired.
    Since all keys are not passing, possiblities of have other rows which satisfies the condition.
    Select Statement with EndSelect is a loop, which in a single run retrieves a single Record. This Record has to be stored in a Work Area and then appended into an Internal Table.
    Select Statements without EndSelect is not a loop and it retrieves the whole Record set matching the Criteria in a single shot and has to be Stored in an Internal Table Directly.
    The most important thing to remember about the SELECT SINGLE is
    There are several things to remember:
    1) It retrieves only one row
    2) It does not need an ENDSELECT statement
    3) THE FULL KEY OF THE TABLE MUST BE INCLUDED IN
    THE WHERE CLAUSE OF THE SELECT STATEMENT

    I have never personally seen this problem, nor can I duplicate it.  Have you installed Service Pack 1 and the latest Cumulative Update to your copy of Microsoft Project 2013?  If not, you should do this immediately and then let us know if this
    solves your problem.  Please keep us updated.

  • Single-digit form fields

    This is probably a very simple answer, but I am unable to figure it out. When I create a single-digit form field, I want the user to enter the appropriate number and then the tab will automatically advaance to the next field. I tried creating it with a text field, set up as below, but it does not automatically advance. What am I missing? Thanks.

    Tabbing to another field automatically requires using a script. There's no
    built-in method of doing it.

  • SQL to read with the DISABLE STORAGE IN ROW set

    I am having problems inserting a clob > 4k. I have changed my default setting to DISABLE STORAGE IN ROW. The problem is, when my clob
    4k, I get a null pointer exception on my read. THE INSERT:
    insert into XML_W_BOOKING (WORKCONVERSATIONID, FREQUENTFLYERNUMBER, XMLSTRING)values(WORKCONVERSATIONID_SEQ.NEXTVAL, pCntr.frequentFlyerNumber, EMPTY_CLOB());
    THE UPDATE:
    PreparedStatement pstmt = this.connection.prepareStatement("update XML_W_BOOKING set XMLSTRING = ? where WORKCONVERSATIONID = ?");
    pstmt.setAsciiStream(1, new StringBufferInputStream(pCntr.xmlString), pCntr.xmlString.length());
    pstmt.setLong(2, pCntr.workConversationId);
    pstmt.executeQuery();
    pstmt.close();
    THE READ:
    myContainer.workConversationId= pRset.getLong(1);
    myContainer.frequentFlyerNumber=pRset.getLong(2);
    java.sql.Clob clob = pRset.getClob(3);
    int c;
    int length = new Long(clob.length()).intValue();
    StringBuffer strBuf = new StringBuffer(length);
    BufferedInputStream bin = new BufferedInputStream(pRset.getAsciiStream(3));
    while((c = bin.read()) != -1){
    strBuf.append((char)c);
    String str = strBuf.toString();
    System.out.println("str: " + str);
    myContainer.xmlString = str;
    Any suggestions? Is there a special sql statement I should be using to read when the "DISABLE STORAGE IN ROW" setting? I am using Oracle 8i and wls 5.1.

    Enable/Disable storage in row is used for LOB columns. If enable storage in row is specified and the length of the LOB field is less than 4K then the LOB is stored along with other table data, else it is stored in a seperate segment. If disable storage in row is specified then LOB data is stored always in a seperate segment. When the LOB is stored in a seperate segment the storage parameters are determined by the values specified for CHUNKS and PCTVERSION. One chunk stores only one LOB data even if enough space is aavailable in the chunk. If the size of LOB data is small then enable storage.
    To calculate the space used by the tables use the query below
    For Table Data
    select segment_name, sum(bytes) from user_segments where segment_name in ('TABLE', 'TABLE1', 'TABLE2') group by segment_name;
    For LOB's
    select segment_name, sum(bytes) from user_segments where segment_name in (select segment_name from user_lobs where table_name in('TABLE', 'TABLE1', 'TABLE2'))
    group by segment_name;

  • MOSS 2007 Monthly Calendar view wont accept a single digit month

    If any of my users try to change the Month of the Monthly Calendar view, by clicking the arrows to the left of the current display month, they get a blank page.
    The url they are sent to is as follows:
    https://~/Lists/Calendar/calendar.aspx?CalendarDate=6%2F16%2F2014
    If they insert a zero in front of the month digit SharePoint displays the page perfectly fine. ie:
    https://~/Lists/Calendar/calendar.aspx?CalendarDate=06%2F16%2F2014
    Here is where it gets strange, my staging environment will display the first URL and the second URL as expected, my production and dev environments choke on a single digit month.  All environments display Oct, Nov, and Dec just fine because they are
    2 digit months.  All servers are Windows Server 2008R2 SP1 and Sharepoint build 12.0.0.6679
    Anyone seen this before?  I have checked, and changed, the regional settings for date format.  They are all set to M/dd/yyyy and changing it had no effect.

    Hi Matt,
    Could you share a screenshot about this issue?
    Did this happen to all site collections and web applications?
    Where did you set the date format as M/dd/yyyy?
    Have you checked if there is any error on the page with different browsers(or with F12 developer tool)?

  • When I enter a single digit in a cell, it lists multiple digits

    I wish to type a number into a single cell.  If the number has multiple digits like 123 (for example), the cell accepts it just fine.  However, sometimes I need to enter just a single digit number into the cell, such as a 5 (for example).  When I enter in 5, it does not accept it, and it has a very long string of numbers pop up in a window within the cell, and sometimes it even has a + sign and even a letter pop up at the end of the string.  The only way to get rid of the long string of numbers is to add a 0 in front of the 5.  However, I don't want to have to add a 0 in front of it every time.
    any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!!  Midnight

         Here is where I try to insert a 1 in the cell under JAN
         If I type in 1 and hit enter, it gives me this weird figure, with a plus sign.
    Again, thank you for your help.
