Read from spreadsheet and plot multiple XY graph

I'm trying to read a text file using the "Read from Spreadsheet" function. Next I want to plot the data in it on a single XY Graph.
The text file contains 4 coloums and the first coloumn is X axis and rest are for Y axis. I'm not able to get the multiple plots.
However, I could get it to plot when only a single graph is to be plotted(only 2 coloumn in file). I've attached my VI and a picture here.
I need help in plotting multiple XY graph from the text file with the 4 coloumns.

I`m a new user of Labview and here it comes...my first major problem.
Maybe this has been discussed before. I’ve made a search to solve my problem first but I couldn`t find anything helpful so I `ve decided to post a new message.
So here is my problem:
I`m working in a small semiconductor lab where different types of nitrides are grown using proprietary reactor. The goal is to read the collected csv files from each growth in Labview and plot the acquired data in appropriate graphs.
I have a bunch of csv files and I have to make a Labview program to read them.
The first part of my project I`ve decided to be displaying the csv file (growth log file) under labview (which I think works fine).
The second one is to be able to plot particular columns from the recipe in graphs in Labview (that one actually gives me a lot of trouble):
1. Timestamp vs Temperature /columns B and D/
2. Timestamp vs Gas flow /columns L to S/
3. Timestamp vs Pressure /columns E,K,T,U,V/
I`ve got one more problem. How can I convert the Timestamp shown in csv file to human readable date in labview? This actually is a big problem, because the timestamp is my x axis and I want to know at what time a particular process took place and I also want to be able to see the converted timestamp when displaying csv file at first. I`ve read a lot about time stamping in excel and timestamp in labview but I`m still confused how to convert it in my case.
I don`t have problems displaying csv file under Labview. My problems are with the timestamp and the graphs.
Sorry for my awful English. I hope you can understand my problems since English is not my mother language.

Hello again,
I`m having problems with converting the first column in the attached above file Growth Log.csv.
I have a code converting xl timestamp to time and using Index Array traying to grab a particular column out of it but the attached file is written in strings so I guess I have to redo it in array but I don`t know how.Would you help me with this one?

Wiring write to spreadsheet.vi to read from spreadsheet.vi and plot the data

I need to plot the data file from the two 'write to spreadsheet.vi' into a graph. Does anyone know how should I connect the 'read from spreadsheet.vi' so that I can plot my data?

Hi Lynn,
You're asking the very same question that I've been wondering about because I don't have the time info. I've found an example that have both info, temperature and time in two colums in one file..it uses two Index Array for time and temp, use the bundle feature, display the plot in an XY graph. So, that was an easy one, but apparently my case is different.
I've a program that collected the data from simulated signals and it is plotted in a waveform graph against time (amplitude vs time), and a power spectrum (amplitude vs frequency). But the data that I collected are the RMS values and power spectrum amplitude...so, I'm not sure where the time data go. I need to figure this out.

The attached VI should help give you an idea of how to create a VI that allows all cursors to move together. The main idea is to keep track of the current location of all cursors and move all of them when you see a change in one's position.

Read from text file and plot in real time

Hello to everybody,
I recently started using labview and so I know very few features, I apologize for any crap I'm about to write.
My problem is as follows:
_ A wireless node is sampling, with a known frequency, the voltage and the current of an electronic device
_ These data are sent to a coordinator connected to the PC
_ Each packet sent includes a single column with: Letter V followed by voltage samples, Letter I followed by current samples (all in a single column as in the attached example)
_ The coordinator saves it in a .txt file
I want to do a labview application that:
_ Reads that file (continuosly update by the coordinator)
_ Plots on two different graphs the values (over the time) of current and voltage

There are File IO examples that ship with LV which show you how to write to red from a file . A more fundamental question though is why have the file at all? Is it serving strictly as a data communication channel, or will it be used for something else?
The "coordinator" that you mention, can it be accessed directly? Serial IO? TCP/IP? Telnet? ActiveX? .NET? Anything?
If so, that would be the preferred way to handle this situation.

PS: Sorry for the next bit, but I used to be a magazine editor and my grandmother was a school teacher so I am just a tiny bit anal retentive about word usage: In English "data" is a funny word in that while it is a singular form, it is (depending upon context) often understood to referring to multiple things and so can be sort of plural. Consequently, it is proper to say: "This data is sent.. " or "The data indicates...", but not, "The data are showing..". Likewise it is always incorrect to try to make it plural by saying "datas".
PPS: The same goes for the word "code" when used as a noun. It can also be a verb, but that's a whole different rant...
PPPS: Also be aware that many of the people who know me well would object to the "tiny bit" part...

Read a text file and display a xy graph

Hi!
I am using LabVIEW 8.5, and I am trying to read columns from
a file and plot with xy graph. I can do it with two channels, but I am having
problems when the numbers of channels connected increase (maybe six or ten).
My text file looks like this:

little bit and it is working, maybe is not the optimums solution…
I would like to make the time invisible in the graph… It that possible? I attached a picture of my graph, because my English is not good. There are two lines near to 22 (two channels
connected at that moment), and a line near to 0 which is time (the strong pink one). I would like to make invisible the strong
prink one only. I try to make invisible,
but I fail… I changed colors looking for another solution and I fail again,
because it is taking the colors that I choose for the channels. I can not disable because I need it to make
the x axes works with the time that I already saved.
If someone has an advice or suggestion I really appreciate it…

How to read two text files using the Read from spreadsheet.vi and then plot it

I need to read two text files using the read from spreadsheet function and then plot these files over time.
The file with the .res extention is the RMS values (dt and df) and the second file contains the amplitude of a frequency spectrum.

Read and plot multiple lvm

Can I read multile lvm files and plot them all on the same chart like I for can spreadsheet files in labview. I try to do this, but it says that I have the wrong format. The works for if I replace the read lvm express vi with a read spreadsheet function. It also works if I just read one lvm file, but not if I set the number of loop iterations to be greater than 1. I have attached my vi here.

Hello Timothy,
As long as a LV Measurement File Read can read each file individually, I would combine them using merge signals vi. This will combine all of the data from all of the files into a single signal. You can then get your information from the signals (the columns of data). I would also be sure to read from different LVM files by passing in an array of paths where the LVM files are. This way, you will not be reading from the same file over and over again.

Trouble reading from serial instrument and DAq simultaneously.

I am having some trouble getting my VI to read from my DAq and a serial instrument at the same time. If I run the subVI's simultaneously (i.e. subANG is running in one window and subVEL is running in a second window) both return the proper values and behave as I would expect. However, if I call the subVI's into a parent VI and try to run them both in the same loop structure subANG gets stuck and will not resond with a change in signal.
I have also tried to use a stacked or flat sequence to separate out the execution of subVEL and subANG, but I still get the no response from subANG.
The most confusing thing is that if I run Parent.VI in one window and then create a copy of subANG (call it '....-copy' or whatever) and run it in a second window, Parent.VI behaves properly and will refresh the readings as they appear in '...-copy'.
I have attached 3 files.
(1) subANG.VI     -This reads an RS232 signal from an inclinometer. The signal is refreshed every 10ms or so.
(2) subVEL.VI      -This reads raw voltage from one channel on the DAq, calculates the mean then converts that into a pressure differential and finally a velocity based on the pressure and temperature inputs.
(3) ParentVI.VI     -This simply calls and displays the subVI's
My guess is that it is a buffer issue, but I am stumped. Does anybody out there in Labview land know why this might be happening? All suggestions welcom.

I am noticing it is not an NI DAQ card. How are you communicating with the DAQ? If it is using a serial port, that could be your problem.
I also highly recommend using the VISA drivers for serial communications instead of the serial.llb VIs.

First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider should one appear until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. And then reboot your computer.
See if that fixes your problem.

Problem using read from spreadsheet file and polar plotting

Hi to all labview users,
i am a beginner in labview and i am trying to do a polar plot.
i read the polar plotting example in labview and it was straightforward.
I used "write to spreadsheet file" to gather data.
and they are in the following format
13 10
4 20
8 30
....etc
now. i tried using "read from spreadfile" to get the data into a array, then using "array to cluster" to convert the array into cluster, so i could connect it to the polar plot block
however, it kept saying i couldnt connect that way, because polar plot uses 1-d array with cluster of 2 element and my source is a cluster of 9 elements....
but doesnt the "read from spreadfile" block give me a 1-d array? and where does that 9 come from? i only have 3 rows and 2 columns in my data file....
any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Read data from XML file and plot graph on Ms Words

Hi,
I'm using Visual Studio 2010, what I want to do is written in the title.
so far i was able read and plot graph on a Form but i unable to use the same method on Crystal Reporting.
The method plotting in Crystal Reporting is complicated and it require a fix data set or database which is not suitable for my case because every time the number of column and row or data will be different. (this is what i think base on what i found)
is there a way for me to display the output on a ms words?
and what is the method.

Using servlets to read from text file and insert data

Hi,
Can I use a servlet to read from a space delimited text file on the client computer and use that data to insert into a table in my database? I want to make it easy for my users to upload their data without having to have them use SQL*Loader. If so can someone give me a hint as how to get started? I appreciate it.

Create a page for the user to upload the file to your webserver and send a message (containing the file location) to a server app that will open the file, parse it, and insert it into your database. Make sure you secure the page.
or
Have the user paste the file into a simple web form that submits to a servlet that parses the data and inserts it into your db.

Scenario to read from txt-file and create a sales order

Hi,
i have started creating a scenario to read from an txt-file and to create a sales order.
When i activate my scenario, i get the following message :
    no scenario step (vBIU) associated for this step for the incoming system (SysId)
When i look into the detailed xml-file i see that all the records are read from the file, but there is no next step to be treated.
Has somebody any idea how this come ?

you were right, you may not specify the extension of a file.
Another thing i detected is that the loop of my data start with the index 1 instead of 0 !!!
In this scenario, i have to read all the lines of the file and each time i should do a SQL-query,
so that i can use the result to build my sales document.
Do you know if it this is possible or have you any idea how to do this ?
