Read settings/configurations from file

Hi,
I am developing a program that reads from several thermocouples. The reading can then changed by an offset and gain factor.  What I want to achieve is once the user has calibrated the sensors he can click on a save button to save those offset and gain values to a file. The next time the program is launched it reads the file for the calibration values (so the user does not have to calibrate them all the time).
How is the best way of doing this in LabView
regards
Harshil.

I also enjoy using the OpenG Variant Configuration File VIs Read and Write Ini File VIs.  The Write/Read Panel to/from INI VIs look interesting, too, but I've never used them.  I use the others all the time.

  • Reading non-standard variable types from file

    Hi,
    I'm currently on a programming course, and I need some help with an excercise.
    The excercise is about adding save, load and undo features to an Infocom style text adventure. The save file must contain three variables: The location of the player (Area), the items the player had (ArrayList<Item>) and the number of passed turns (int.)
    Is it possible to write to & read from file with these type of variables? Or do I have to convert them to Area to String (saving) and from String to Area (loading)?
    Thanks for the help in advance.

    You should probably take a look at Java Serialization (google on that)

  • Reading an integer size element from file

    Hello, I need some help for reading an integer size element from a file. In C++ there is the function fread with the following signature size_t fread(void ptr, size_t size, size_t nitems, FILE stream); where size is the size of one of the elements. Using this function in c++, you can read an integer by setting size = sizeof(int). I need this function because I am writing in a file a lot of integers and characters without any separator and I need to take the first element which is always an integer. Here is an example:
    I have: int x = 234; String y = "12ABC". I write those two elements in an output file. Now, when reading from that file the content of the file is: 23412ABC and I need to take the two elements x and y.
    Can anyone help ?

    I see what you mean but the problem is a bit more complicated, maybe I did not explain well. I need to copy data in a text file and retrieve them. Most data that will be written in the file are stored in an char array. those data may contain digits, letters, special characters... depending on their ASCII code. But before writting that char array, I need to write an integer corresponding to a specific index and I have no way of predicting the number of digits of that integer. So for example, my char array contains the following data: {'1','2','3','a','b','c'} and my int equals 10000. Using FileWriter I write the int and then the char array using the method myfile.write with its arguments. Next step, I want now to read from myfile.txt the data that I wrote in the first step. I start reading the int then using myfile.read(mychararray, 0, 6) /*6 being the size of the bloc to be read*/ I read the remaining characters and store each char in a cell of mychararray. The problem with this, is that using the method .read I can not read the first integer since I don't know its size: it may contain 1, 2 or even more digits.
    I know that storing everything in bytes would make my task easier, but I necessarily need to store an array of characters and then use .read method to store the content of the file (after having read the int of course) in a char array. Last clarification, the step of writing int then char array is reproduced n times before calling myfile.close();
    I hope it is clearer than before. Any suggestion for this problem would be welcome.

  • Anyone have example to read and write XML to/from file

    I am writing a swing utility and need to save and read data in XML. I have looked around google, but the examples are just confusing me.

    Do these xml docs have dtd's? And specific DOM implementation needs or just a custom xml?
    I have some examples in http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/mathml-x/mathml-x/src/com/neuralworks/physics/Academy.java?view=markup
    follow openMenuItemActionPerformed and openFEMMLDocument(String filePath). Look for DocumentBuilder

                //builder.setEntityResolver(new X3DEntityResolver());
                //builder.setErrorHandler(new X3DErrorHandler());

                    //tree.addMouseMotionListener(x3dTreeAdapter);
                    academicSplitPane.setLeftComponent(new JScrollPane(tree));Lot of commented out stuff I need to clean up. There are other examples of opening specific xml docs that have special DOM implementations; svg and mathml for example.
    For saving I use xslt with an identity transform to go from an in memory DOM source to an xml document on disk.
    Follow the saveAs(String filePath) method and the identity.xsl is http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/mathml-x/mathml-x/stylesheets/identity.xsl?rev=1.2&view=markup

  • Loading Instrument settings from file

    Hi there
    I am developing a new app that uses quite a few possible instrument configurations and needs to be able to support multiple instruments models. I have written a little GUI that lets users select a config from various settings on different tables. I now want to save this config to a file and maybe read in the settings when they want to edit it again. Can any body suggest and tried and tested formats for doing this. I was going to use configuration files with a section for each instrument type and then keys for model number and GPIB addr but am open to any other suggestions as I need to do this quickly (whats new eh !) and it needs to be scalable.
    Instrument settings will be loaded from file into Globals by each test sequence so that globals can be re-used etc
    Cheers in advance.
    Chris R

    Chris,
    Option 1 - HDF5
    I have found HDF5 the best method for saving configuration data. You can get low-level HDF5 utilities for LabVIEW by searching for sfpFile or HDF5 on the main NI website, or try this link.
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/3efedde4322fef19862567740067f3cc/cb8a7f8090900f6c86256cc700033816?O...
    HDF5 is a binary, hierarchical file format, with a lot of built-in features such as compression and 64-bit file pointers. As such, it is fast, allows for easy backwards compatibility, and you can put anything into it. It also allows circular references (it is actually a directed graph, not a tree), so, for example, you can reference data from configurations and configurations from data. I maintained the NI-SCOPE Soft Front Panel configuration file with this method through many years and configuration changes.
    Now for the bad news. HDF5 is very low level. Expect to take a week to get comfortable with it. HDF5 is not threadsafe, so you must ensure that you never call the DLL from more than one place at once. The posted code uses version 1.4.4 of HDF5, while the latest version is 1.6.3.
    Option 2 - Configuration file VIs
    If your configurations are fairly simple and have no real hierarchy, consider the configuration file VIs found on the file palette. These store your data in a Windows style INI file, so it is easily human readable. They are not as fast as the HDF5 solution, and have only a single layer of hierarchy, but they are written in pure G, so are very portable.
    Good luck. Let us know how you make out.

  • How to Read specific data from file and do a calculation and display on the output

    FYI: Below is the function use for the writing:
    -OpenFile(use ASCII)
    -sprintf
    -WriteFile
    Example: Output from the doc file
    …EndTime: 09:34:48 program time: 0.567663 sec
    …EndTime: 09:36:48 program time: 0.666666 sec
    My objective is to read data 0.666666 (FYI: is last sentence of the file) to do some calculation. How can we read specific data(specific location) from file..
    Any advice or help?
    What is the function needed?

    I would consider counting line feeds and checking for end-of file to isolate the last line, which then can be read using fscanf...
    Have a look at getc...
    character = fgetc ( stream );
    if ( character == '\n' ) // new line
    if ( character == EOF ) // end-of-file

    Many thanks

    Hi Foreverduy,
    Before you run SQL Server 2008 express setup, make sure that you have installed Windows installer 4.5 and.NET Framework 3.5 SP1 manually. For more information about the process, please refer to the article:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143506(v=sql.100).aspx. Moreover, please turn off all the third-party softwares which could prohibit the installation process.
    According to your error message, the issue could be due to that your account has no rights to install SQL Server, or the corruption on the media.
    Firstly, please ensure that your account has admin rights. Also make sure that you right-click the setup.exe and choose “Run as administrator” to complete the installation.
    Secondly, please check if "msdbdata.mdf" file exists at d:\8268cd7b247d294de359c9\x86\setup\sql_engine_core_inst_msi\PFiles\SqlServr\MSSQL.X\MSSQL\Binn\Template. If it exists, please make sure that your account has read permission to the extracted
    folder.
    However, if the file doesn't exist in the extraction, the media could be corrupt. Please download the
    media
    again and check if the issue still occurs.

    Michelle Li

    Are you trying to Print to PDF or are you trying to Print a PDF file to a physical printer?

  • Creating PDF from File, missing Settings

    Acrobat Professional. 6.0.
    I never used Acrobats "Create PDF from file", as in my MS Office 2000 there was "Acrobat - Convert to Adobe PDF" menu item with the possibility to change joboptions settings.
    My current MS Office 2007 now has its own PDF convertor only, so I tried the Acrobats feature "Create PDF from file". It works, but the Settings button is grayed out with all Office file types. I didnt find a way how to access Acrobats settings, so I tried by first opening Distiller and changing the options there. Nothing happened, the output from Acrobat has always the same file size and quality. Of course I could make PDF out from Office by printing to Adobe PDF printer, but how with other file types which are not Office types.
    Thanks for suggestions, i.e. for showing me what I eventually didnt consider.

    As I and Bernd tried to say. AA6 does not support OFFICE 2007. The fact that you have PDF Maker from AA6 working in WORD 2007 is surprising. Since it is not a normal or supported operation, we have no idea what to tell you. It should not even be working. You are the first one I have ever heard say that they have the AA6 PDF Maker (create PDF is the way it shows up) working in OFFICE 2007!
    Thus, I may misunderstand. But I am trying to tell you that none of us have experience with the configuration. Adobe will also tell you to simply upgrade. Unfortunately, that leaves you on your own to experiment. If you have questions along the way based on your observations, we would be glad to try to help, but don't expect too much.

  • Bug: Keywords behave incorrectly after "Read Metadata from File"

    (Happens in LR3.4 RC and probably also in previous versions... but I am not sure if it happened in LR2)
    The problem seems tro be somthing like de-sync of database status and what we see on the screen.
    1) Let's say we have a photo with keyword "abc"
    2) Click in the Keyword List on the arrow around the "abc" keyword to show only photos with this keyword (single one), leave the filter on this settings
    2) Save Metadata to File
    3) Edit XMP in an external application, add new keyword "def"
    4) Read Metadate from File
    5) Now what happens is: The photos disappers from the screen as if it lost the "abc" keyword (weird), but if you look at the Keyword List, the "abc" keyword has still 1 photo attached to it. Also, if you release the filter and find the photo, it clearly has the "abc" and "def" keywords in the Keywording panel. And you can search for this keyword in the text filter (works correctly), but if you click on the arrow around the "abc" keyword, the photo is not shown.
    6) If you restart the Lightroom, it will work correctly again.
    I have an own application that is able to modify the XMP and the modifications may not be perfect, but in my opinion, this shouldn't happen when reading the metadata. If any developer is reading this, I can supply a file with original and changed metadata for debugging.
    It would be great it this could be resolved.
    Thanks!

    Please do report your find with the details you state (well done!) here: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform
    Thanks.........

  • When I open Add-ons, from the Tools menu, I get an unresponsive script error: file:///C:/Program%20Files/Mozilla%20Firefox/components/nsExtensionManager.js:623.

    When I try to click on Add-ons, from the Tools menu, I get this error message of an unresponsive script: file:///C:/Program%20Files/Mozilla%20Firefox/components/nsExtensionManager.js:623. This is to say the least about the unresponsive script errors at other times. However, at all times, it won't go away - even by clicking on the 'stop script' option; even with checking the 'don't ask again' option. I've cleared the cookies and history as best I could, but it appears that there is some sort of conflict. How can I resolve this? Kevin: [email protected] Thank you.

    This is typically caused by a problem with the Personas Plus 1.6 add-on and it conflicting with the Google toolbar.
    Try disabling the Personas Plus add-on. To do this open the add-ons manager by selecting the Tools menu, then Add-ons. In the list of installed extensions click on Personas Plus, then click on either disable or uninstall.
    If you can not access the add-ons manager, follow the instructions in the [[safe mode]] article to start Firefox in safe mode. You should then be able to disable or uninstall Personas Plus. You can find more information on this procedure in the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article.

  • Feature Request: save metadata to file, and read metadata from file.

    Please have function to save metadata to file, and read metadata from file.
    This would allow us to write cross-platform plugins that can assure data is up-to-date in the xmp, or modify xmp and have it reinstated in the catalog.
    This would go nicely with the ability to save xmp for virtual copies, dng, and rgb formats.

    Perhaps someone with direct experience with publishing to Smugmug will chime in.  Short of that, some thoughts on your issues:
    Should I not bother to "Save Metadata to File", this seems to be what is messing up the SmugMug publish service?
    I very much doubt that it is messing up the publishing.  What gets saved to the file from the catalog is independent of what gets exported.  Saving metadata to the file is generally a good practice (in case you screw up your catalog backups).  Many, perhaps most, users set the preference Catalog Settings > Automatically Write Changes Into XMP.
    I would have expected it to behave like an export which would write synonyms, exclude keywords that should be excluded, etc, which seems to work ok in point 6 above.
    Yes, that's a reasonable expectation.
    You may have done this already, but double-check: Right-click the Smugmug publishing service in the left-hand column of the Library, select Edit Settings, and in the Metadata section verify that you have Include: All Metadata set.
    Did you download the Smugmug plugin from Smugmug? You might try this Smugmug plugin instead -- the author designed the publishing architecture of LR and has an excellent reputation.
    Are the publish services more effort than they are worth? So I get SmugMug to work, what happens when I try Flickr?
    I think many users find the publishing services are generally worthwhile.  I publish regularly to Flickr (using the built-in Flickr plugin, which isn't completely reliable) and the Zenfolio plugin from Friedl.
