Read & write from external files in java

Hello everybody,
I need your help in two problems. I have to write a method that read specific numbers from a file, save them in an array, do some calculation on that array and write it again in a new file.
For example, I have a file that contains the following:

I need to read the point coordinates only and save them in a two dimension array, then I'll do some transformation on that array and write it in a new file that contains the previous data but the point coordinates are the transformed coordinates. I tried the following:

But when I tried it, I found out that it saves 0s in the array!
As I mentioned before, my problem is that I don't know how to read specific information from a file. I know how to write new information a file, but how to write a file that I already have with changed specific information.
I'll be grateful if you show me how to solve those problems.
And I hope that I explained my problems in an understandable and clear way.

if ( s.nextToken() == "[" ){should beif (s.nextToken().equals("["){Also, you have two nextToken for each has hasMoreTokens, which is going to cause an exception.
You are never hitting the parseInt code because of your equals/== error. Therefore, everything is zeros.
The order of reading lines and checking for "[" isn't right. You should find the [ (maybe including the "point" word), then get numbers from the following lines (read line, tokenize, read line, tokenize, ...) until you hit the end of the points.

  • Problem with reading text from .DOC files through java and POI

    I have used a jar file "poi-scratchpad-3.2-FINAL-20081019.jar" and "poi-3.2-FINAL.jar" to read text from a .DOC file. I used the "getParagraphText()" function of the class "org.apache.poi.hwpf.extractor.WordExtractor" to get the text.

    Below the above messages/warnings the data is getting printed. Only the text part of the data is retrieved not the fonts, styles and bullets etc.
    Can anyone explain me why I am getting above warnings and how can I remove them. Is it possible to fetch the text depending on delimiters.

    The jar files which were used are downloaded from http://jarfinder.com. Those jars created the problem of displaying those messages on console. I downloaded APIs from apache.org and used them in my application. Now my application is running good.

    I have a file with some text in it(say file 1). I need to replace some particular words in the text(file 1) with the words synonyms which are in another file(file 2).
    I need to write the text after replacing it with its synonyms into a new file. Can anyone suggest a way that i could do it.

    I have create a table with a column of data type BLOB.
    I can read/write an IMAGE file from/to the column of the table using:
    READ_IMAGE_FILE
    WRITE_IMAGE_FILE
    How can I do the same for other binary files, e.g. aaaa.zip?

    There is a package procedure dbms_lob.readblobfromfile to read BLOB's from file.

  • Table unable to read data from CSV file

    I have created a table which have to read data from external CSV file. The table is giving error if the file is not there at the specified location,but when i put the file at that location there is no error but no rows are returned.

  • How to continue to read Object from a file?

    At some program I write an object into a file. This program will be called again and again so that there are many objects which are saved to that file. And I write another program to read object from this file. I can read the first object but can not read the second. However if I delete the object in that file (using editplus, by manually) I can read the second. Because now the second object is the first object. (Delete first object).
    The exception when I read the second object is below:

  • Read/write from OBIEE repository data using API

    Hi, I need to create a my own application that could read/write from the repository data, the same as I can do using the BI Admin user interface (like creating dimensions, hierarchies, levels, etc.).
    Are there any API's to do that?
    I'm usually working with .NET/C# technology but I can also programming in Java, the important is that I could be able to write metadata in the repository, and simply read them, I'm not interested in complex report functions... any suggestion will be appreciated!

    without talking about Metadata, but in this another tutorial http://oraclebizint.wordpress.com/2007/07/31/customizing-obi-ee-soap-api/ talks about "metadata"... is it only about Presentation Service? Has Presentation Service metadata too? Are they like Dimensions and hierarchies?
    Excuse me but although I've read the documentation I can't understand what kind of metadata it refers to...

  • Read lines from a file

    With "ApartmentFileHandler" I can write Apartment-objects to a file and read them from a file.
    To write I loop through each room in the apartment and write its size
    and type. I put 1 Room per line.
    To read I read each line of the file and recreate the room stored
    there. When there are no lines left in the file I pass the Rooms from
    the file to the Apartment constructor and return the new Apartment.
    Only one Apartment is stored in each file. (Apartment doesn?t implement
    Serializable, so I cant write straight Apartment-objects to a file.)
    So in the file, there are stored one "Room" per line: String type,
    double size
    QUESTION: How am I able to read all lines: first line first -> make a new room of
    it, and store to a roomArray? Then second -> do same as I did to the
    first.
    Now my read()-method doesn't read all lines. How to change it to read next line?

    I recommend using java.io.BufferedReader in conjunction with java.io.FileReader:
    BufferedReader reader=new BufferedReader(new FileReader(filepath));
    java.io.BufferedReader provides the method public java.lang.String readLine() throws java.io.IOException which lets you read a complete line from the underlying java.io.Reader object. Furthermore, BufferedReader will - as the name implies - buffer your IO-operations which will help you improve the program's performance. In order to read all the lines contained in a text file you might want to apply a loop:
    String line;
    while((line=reader.readLine())!=null && line.length()!=0){
    //process data in string line (parse into string and double)
    Of course, everything must be contained within a try-catch-block in order to be able to handle upcoming IOException objects.
