Reader X Printing Problem

I manage a lab at a university that about a couple hundred students go through each day. About a week ago, we started having a lot of the students come up to us and say that they can't print the PDF from Reader X, yet they can print from any other program just fine. Some are able to print if they open it with a browser (firefox, chrome, or IE), and some can't. The problem seems to happen randomly to students. I thought maybe it was an error with the new protected mode on Reader X, but even when I turned it off some still couldn't print. This complaint happens about 10 times a day with different PDF files.
Any thoughts?

I'm been having fits both saving downloaded PDFs & printing both them & others I had previously saved.  All of this has occurred since installng Adobe Reader X, & I'm up to date with Version 10.1.1.  Yes, my printer is old, but it works with everything else--just not with Adobe Reader X.  My OS is Windows XP Professional, SP3, and it's always updated with the most recent Microsoft patches.  Here's the answers to your questions:
1)  Using Reader X
2)  Version 10.1.1
3)  All PDFs.  Samples are Explanations of Benefits downloaded through health insurance web site & saved as PDFs, PDFs created by scanning original document using Canon scanner software, PDFs saved by creating print selections from either downloaded or online documents and saving them using a third-part PDF writer.  tt doesn't matter what type or what source--the problems are consistent, and have only occurred since installing Reader X.  I had no issues with any of the version 9 releases.
4)  HP Laserjet 4M.  The only identification I can provide for the driver is either HP 4M or HP 4M PS--I have both installed because it's a postscript capable printer.  I went through the process of adding a new driver for each of these installed printers & my OS installed them, but I believe they're the same as what were previously installed.  Yes, it's an old printer and I can't afford to replace it (I won't use inkjets for my work), but so far it's been capable of printing anything I ask it to print--until I encountered problems with Reader X or the browser embedded version of Adobe Reader.  Both react the same way.
5)  Here's a sampling of the issues I've encountered:
When I open a PDF file from a web site & try to save it or print it, either IE8 or Adobe Reader X simply shuts down.  If I'm lucky enough for the document to load, I try to print it either to a printer or to another PDF writer, it acts as if it's trying to print, then an error message appears that it could not be printed because no document was selected. That freezes up the application, either IE8 or Adobe Reader X, and I have to use Task Manager to close it down.
Double-clicked on a downloaded document (different ones reacted the same say) & got the following result when going to the File Print routine:
Dialog Box contents:
Microsft Visual C__ Runtime Library in title bar
Runtime Error!
Program: C:/Program Files/Adobe/Reader 10.0/Reader/AcroRd32.exe
abnormal program termination
OK button
Click on OK button & application terminates.
If I first start Adobe Reader X, then use File, Open, to open the same document, Reader X simply shuts down & won't open the document.
I tried to load a travel reimbursement form I had scanned and saved before upgrading to Reader X--first loaded Reader X, then opened the file, then tried to print it.  On the 1st attempt Reader X shut down.  On the 2nd attempt it printed a blank page. On the next attempt, it said that the document could not be printed in one dialog box, and when I closed that one another appeared saying that no pages were selected to print.  But I had clicked in the document and the default page selection in the printer dialog box was All. There is only one page in the file.
Next I tried loading Reader X, then opening the reimbursement form, then clicking on the printer icon--nothing happened.  Then I tried File, Print, and nothing happened (after waiting 2-3 minutes each time).  Finally, I tried Ctrl-P to try to print the document.  The PC responded with an Adobe Reader dialog box that said "An internal error occurred."  I don't know which printing attempt this error message pertained to.  Every time I have to use Task Manager to end Adobe Reader, and it gives me a message that it's waiting for a response from me.  This thing is busted since I installed Reader X.  I want to go back to a prior version until you can get this fixed.  But I can't seem to find any insallation files for earlier versions.

  • Adobe Reader X Printing Problem

I upgraded to 'X', am running Windows XP and have an HP LaserJet 4100N printer. I mostly print out sets of loan documents, average 100 pages per set, mixed legal and letter size pages. When I upgraded to Adobe Reader X, legal size pages were randomly not printing the bottom 1/3 or so of each page. Since I travel to have these docs signed, it created quite a problem for me when it first happened. I could print smaller batches (1-5 pages, legal size only) and it worked, but printing the whole set, mixed paper sizes, I continued to have this problem.
Luckily I had kept an installation for Adobe Reader 9, so I uninstalled 'X' and reinstalled '9'. voila - the problem disappeared.
But I am hoping someone from Adobe will read this and work on this problem.

I can confirm this problem.  Rolling back to version 9.4 fixes it.
One of my clients is a travel notary and ran into this issue today.  All print settings were set up per Adobe's instructions at http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/332/332720.html#main_Mixed_sizes when the problem occurred.  We had recently upgraded to Reader X, and had never had the probem before.  I eventually traced it to a problem in the new version.  Uninstalling and installing version 9.4 fixed the issue.  I cannot include the actual document due to privacy concerns, but I will include a screen shot that has been sanitized.

  • Win7 and Reader X printing problem

Tried printing a PDF file from a browser window (via Reader X) and it would not print to my primary printer (HP Deskjet 5550 connected to a NAS USB port so it has a network address).  Saving the file and printing from Reader X as a standalone app didn't help.
Other applications printed fine, and I could print from Reader X (standalone or in a browser) to a wireless Epson Workforce 610, except it was out of black ink so that wasn't a viable option.
It took forever to bring up the dialog box, and after selecting print nothing happened.  The print queue never showed anything and no error message was presented.

    Hi
We have the same problem with Read X !
We have 2no network HP designjet 1055cm A0 large format inkjet printers with driver v4.67 on XP windows software pc's
and when we do a print preview, the settings are fixed on A4 and you cannot change them at all.  We are always printing with A1 and A0 PDF's .
We also have a canon irc2880i A4/A3 network laser printer, but that works with no problem.
I have now unstalled reader X and reinstalled back again 9.4 reader and it is all working again with the designjets !
Wake up Adobe on this problem, you have badly let us down on this !

  • Reader X scaling problems

Ever since installing Reader X, I am having problems printing out portrait PDF's. They are changed to Landscape and only use 1/2 the sheet of paper. They look as if I could get 2 actual layouts on 1 sheet of paper. It worked fine using Reader 9 before the update. I have looked at all preferences and haven't found one to make a difference. Any help would be appreciated. I am using Win 7 on this PC. Thanks

I went to the pull-down menu, selected "Print" and then at the bottom of the print window, there were 4 buttons (in addition to "OK" and "Cancel"):  "Print Tips" "Page Setup" "Advanced" and "Summarize Comments."  Under "Advanced" there is a "Print as Image" box near the bottom of the new "Advanced Print Setup" window that opens.  Once you check the  "Print as Image" box, you should be ok for any Adobe documents you open in the future.

  • I am having a printing problem with reader xi when i try to print a pdf file?

i am having a problem printing on either of my printers with pdf e-mail attachments.
the printer hangs up until i go to device manager to stop it and then it ptints.
sometimes i get an error message "an internal error occured".
i have reinstalled the software and also tried to repair in control panel with no luck.
can anyone point me in the right dirrection to fix this?
    thanks...

After a great deal of confusion,  I got to the right page in the help files. What I have to do to print PDF's, for I have no clue what reason, is on this page, under the "windows only" section.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/reader/using/print-pdfs.html#why_can_t_i_print_my_document
The basic is:  right click on the non-printing document, select document properties, then advanced;  if "protected mode" is "on", then..... click "edit" on the document, "preferences", and turn off the "enable protected mode" icon at the top of the mega-list that appears,  click ok, close Reader, then reopen Reader and the pdf document, and miraculously, the "Print" icon at the top of the page will allow printing!

  • Reader 10.0 Printing Problem - Font changing while printing

    Dear all,
can anybody help me on my printing problem with Adobe Reader 10.0 ?
While printing a pdf I cannot do anything else, it is not possible to touch the mouse
because when I do this, the font is changing while printing to something like grecian.
Can somebody help me on this ?
Reader 9 did not cause this problem.
    Thanx and best Regards, Travelplan24

I have the same problem, but I didn't realize it could be set off by my working on another task. It is also triggered when the pdf has scientific notation, or a very extreme change in font and font size. E.g., text in boxes, algorithms, etc. seem to trigger the problem.
I have reinstalled my print driver (several times, latest on Sunday), and reinstalled Adobe Reader (now 10.0.1) but the problem remains.
    Printer:
HP Officejet 6500 (E709n Series) wireless, now on USB.
Document properties: Most recent font conversion - yesterday:
    Producer: Distiller 4.0.2 for Mac
    PDF version: 1.3 (Acrobat 4.x)
Fonts: Helvetica-Neue, Type 1, Encoding: ANSI and Roman
The font is not converting into Greek. E.g. "Problem-Solving Process" became "Qspcrfm . Tpnwjoh!Qspdftt"' with the kerning overlapping characters.
The font 'conversion' has happened many, many times on a wide variety of pdf files in the past 6 months. Never had the problem before. I had downloaded new Reader, and purchased the new printer -- I do not know which change created the problem.
I will cease doing anything when I print as a temporary workaround, but that is not a good solution.
I sure hope you can figure out what the bug is. Thanks in advance.

  • Adobe Reader Printing Problem

I have a PC with Windows XP SP3. When I try to print a PDF document, I get the following message: "The document could not be printed. There were no pages selected to print." Of course, I had selected the pages to print.
Recently, I had many problems with Adobe Reader 10, so I removed it and reloaded Adobe 9. Today, when this printing problem appeared, I did a restore on my computer, taking it back a few months. I still have the printing problem.
Any idea what's wrong? Any idea how to fix it?

I have Acrobat Pro 9, but the feature I am using is listed under my
    printers.
If I go to Print, then in the drop-down list of printers, I have PDF -
which essentially creates a new PDF document.  I don't really understand
why it worked, but it did.  The Print - PDF is also available to Word,

  • Reader X fillable pdfs Cyrillic font print problem.

    Hello,
I have a task recently, to make some fillable pdf forms. This was not a problem, but the problem occur when I try to print them with Adobe Reader X. The problem is very strange, so excuse me if I'm not making myself much clear. So here goes:
I have 3 or more text fields on 1 document. When a fill one and print it everything is OK, but when I fill more than one strange thing happen.  Cyrillic characters that are not in the last field that I fill don't show in previous fields... Example: If I type in one field "Дианов" and in the other "Пасков" and when I print it last field ("Пасков") is OK but previous ("Дианов") is showed like "  а ов" and that is because "а" , "о", "в" symbols are to be found in the last field.
