Reading mixed characters file

Hi ,
I need to read a file (jar file) which contains English as well as Arabic strings . Is it possible to read the files with Special encoding like cp1256 or UTF-8 ? Please give me a solution.

It makes no sense to me. A jar file is just a sequence of bytes not chars. So first forget the encoding, read one file from the jar and then care about it.

Thank You for your reply . The problem is the file is basically encoded with cp1252 , but it contains some Japanese characters , we need to get those Japanese characters as well when we read the file. The file is a huge text file in the application.

Can't read special characters in an excel file using JDBC

Hi! I 've a code to read an excel file using JDBC-ODBC bridge. I can read the values, but any special characters is readed wrong, just symbols. The special characters are of spanish language. This is my code:

Unable to read chinese characters in a flat file to external table

Hi All,
We have a flat file containing data in chinese. We are using external table to read data in files. When i do select <coulmn-name> from <table> it displays box for the chinese characters. The column is of type varchar2.
The NLS_LANGUAGE is AMERICAN and NLS_CHARACTERSET is AL32UTF8.
The character set is mentioed as UTF8 in external table defnition.
Is the external table not reading these charcters properly? Should any patch be installed or some settings should be changed for sql developer to to display chinese character?

The NLS_LANG environment variable/registry string variable (You are just one of the 1000s of 'anonymous' users refusing to post platform and version), so NOT NLS_LANGUAGE, on the server hosting the file, should be set to anything ending in .AL32UTF8

Reading a text file with foreign language characters

I'm trying to convert foreign language characters to English looking characters. I have code that works, but only if I hard code the string with foreign language characters and pass it to the function. I cannot figure out how to get my program to read
in the foreign characters from my file, they come in as garbage.
Since the function works when I pass a hard coded string to it, I'm pretty sure the problem is the way I have the Streamreader set up, it's just not reading the characters correctly...

I know that removing the accent changes the meaning of the word, but this is what the user wants so it's what I need to do.

Finally got it to work. I had to remove the first 5 characters from the replacement string (ŠŽšžŸ), couldn't find encoding that would handle these, and to be honest, I didn't really need them. The important ones are still there, was probably
just overkill on my part.
UTF7 worked for the rest...

Characters y and b appear when reading a text file

The vi shown in the picture opens a text file from hard drive with "Open/Create/Replace File" and with "Read from Spreadsheet File".
Then the vi displays the text in the respective indicators.
In both indicators, there is a y and b that appear as the very first first characters.
It's not exactly a y and b. The y has two dots over it and the stem of the b hangs low, a non-English script.
In Word and Notepad these charcters don't show up. The first character is a zero as I originally wrote.
The text file was originally created in Excel and then saved as unicode text.
From whence do these funky letters come? and how do I get them to leave?
Also, it looks like the text in both indicators is adding a blank line after each line. That doesn't show up Notepad or Word either.

There's your problem: unicode. You might want to check out this quick thread: Config file "byte order mark"
Yes, by saving as Unicode, you have a couple of extra bytes that most text editor know to ignore. But LabVIEW just gives you the raw data.

Read from Text File - Help Bug?

Hi - I am currently working on LV8 and I think that there is some misunderstanding potential in the help file. To be more exact in the help to the "Read From Text File" VI.
The description for "count":
" ... If count is <0, the function reads the entire file. The
default is –1, which indicates to read a single line if you placed a checkmark
next to the Read Lines shortcut menu item and to read the
entire file if you removed the checkmark next to the item. "
If count is lower than zero, the function reads the entire file. That sounds clear to me.
The default is -1, which indicates to read a single line if you placed a checkmark next to the "Read Lines" shortcut menu item. Now what? Does it read a single line or the whole file?
.. and to read the entire file if you removed the checkmark next to the item. I thought it reads the whole file if I use -1 ?
the VI itself behaves as I'd expect it to:
* If I place a checkmark next to Read Lines and put -1, I get an array containing the lines
* If I remove the checkmark, I get only a single string item.
Now where is the error? Is the VI not working properly or only the description a little bit ... strange ?

Read from Text File
Reads a specified number of characters or lines from a byte stream file. By default, this function reads all characters from the text file. Wire an integer value to count to specify how many individual characters you want to read starting with the first character. Right-click the function and place a checkmark next to the Read Lines option in the shortcut menu to read individual lines from the text file. When you select the Read Lines option in the shortcut menu, wire an integer value to the count input to specify how many individual lines you want to read from the file starting with the first line. Enter a value of -1 in count to read all characters and lines from the text file.
Humm.
New feature (again).. If you select checkmark the Read Lines option, it will not send the text to a sting indicator, as shown in the attached image. If selected, then it's expecting to write lines to an array of strings... WHY??? I don't know.. I'll ask..
Strange... LV8 is full of mysteries...

Read from text file and seperate column

hello,
I have a problem reading my text file. This text file is downloaded from weather link. All data will be changed upon the selection of user. my problem is I can read the data column by column but i cannot retrive the right column header for each data. I also attached the test file. Can somebody help me? Thanks in advance..

Sorry, I missed that one. The file formatting is strange though. It uses spaces to separate columns but also within columns. I attached a modified VI that tries to take care of that, but it fails at the columns "Solar Energy" and "Hi Solar Rad.". This is very difficult to read programmatically as there's one space each between "Solar", "Hi", and "Solar" again. So how do we distinguish between column separator and space within column?
Is download.txt the original file? Or was it probably modified by an editor that would replace tabs by space characters?

You may be mixing up two entirely different Adobe products.
1. Adobe Flash Player. Needed to view web pages designed with Flash. Not needed to view PDF files. Not available for Android (not just Sony).
2. Adobe Reader. Reads PDF files. However, the Android can also read most PDF files without needing Adobe Reader.

Contact Form: How do i create a link from an XML file to another domain to read a PHP File

So i purchased a template from Template Monster and im having a little trouble with the contact form. The server that im uploading it to is a privite server that the company owns. It supports ASP and not PHP. I cant seem to get the ASP form to work so all i want to do it create a link to another one of there servers that supports PHP and have the contact form link to there and read the PHP file (that i will upload to that server) and send the email from there.

You can open both Muse files at once, copy the content of a page on one site, then paste it into a new page on the other site. You might have to redo some of the page styling.

Error when reading a XML File

When I am reading an XML file in a folder I am getting extra characters like squares before and after each and every character of the XML file.
Why is this so.I thought they are spaces and trimmed it but i didnt work.I replaced thinking as escape characters and that also did not work.But when I am prionting the ASCII value of the first character of the file I am getting -17.
Please can anyone help me out of this.

The files in the folder are log.txt and output.xml(has UTF-16 as the encoding style in the first line).log.txt is read fine but output.xml is not.

Adobe AIR 4 Not reading a XML file larger than 10MB

I have an application where the XML file could be over 10MB in size. I am using XMLHttpRequest to read the file in. However, on Air 4, it results in null when the file is greater than 10MB in size. This was working until I updated to AIR 4. I can go back to a previous version of AIR and the loading of large file works.

Why AIR limited the file size and any work around for this? The Request processes fine and readyState will become 4. However, xml.responseXML.documentElement will respond with a NULL.

It's difficult to tell what it is, it looks like a binary
pipe symbol but I can copy it from TextPad for example. Some of the
characters following it cannot be copied from TextPad which I
assume is because it's null. I can read the whole file in C#/.Net
and assign it to a string variable without any problems but perhaps
Air is somewhat limited to binary content.

Assistance in Reading a .txt file

I'm newbie on Java and I have a problem
I'm doing a homework on Systems and I need to read a .txt file [It would be on the same folder as the Java file].
The catch is that I have to read by Lines, Each Line could have as much as 3 words[tokens] as little as one.
I also have to read the characters on the words/tokens to identify if they are valid.
I have thought of 2 ways of doing this.
Reading ALL the line and dividing the words by the Spaces.
Or read the words by tokens and then having a flag to know when the line jumps.
Example of the text file:

Et1 equ $ffFF
;Comentary # 1
dos LDAA @456
END
I hope I'm being clear.
Now, I'm not looking to have my homework done for me, but I am looking for some pointers.
I've tried the Scanner class but I just don't know the right methods I guess... I've also heard the Token StringTokenizer class works. But I have no clue.
Someone could give me pointers? which Class would be the right one and which methods?
I've been Struggling with this all week.
Help will be really appreciated.

I would use the Scanner class to read an entire line. If you don't know what methods to use then read the Java API and the explanation for each method of the Scanner class. Write some code to experiment and see what those methods do. Then when you have an entire line I would use String.split as StringTokenizer is/has been deprecated.

Problem in Reading a .PDF file

HI Friends,
I am reading a .pdf file from within java program using its java.io package.
I am able to read the file, but when I print the line read from file on to the screen, it all garbage. Its not in readable characters.
I guess its reagrding mismatch in Charcter Sets of original file and the stream with which I m reading the file.
So,if u know the solution plz suggest me.

Here's an exemple of a class that opens the File "rapport.pdf" located at the same place as the class.
Of course AcroRd32.exe is the name of Acrobat Reader which allows to read pdf files. You can get it on : adobe.com(http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html)
You will change "rapport.pdf" by the name of your pdf file.
Then execute "test()".
