Reading NVARCHAR fields, how?

Hi,
I have NVARCHAR colunm in my database table and it contains string saved in different character sets. I have also another field telling what character set is used. The question is that how should I read that NVARCHAR column if I wanted to get conversion to become right?
(What ResultSet's method to use? getString, getBytes??)
Database is SQL Server 7.
Thanks,
mila

Sorry,
I wanted also to convert that data UTF-8-

    Hi All,
How to make read only field in Task list?

This can be done one of two ways:
    1. Customize the form in Infopath, right click your field and disable the control.
    2. Use JavaScript/jQuery on the page to disable the element.

  • [ORA-22905] How to read a field of an object inside another object?

    Greetings,
I'm a student and in a current exercise we have to work with the Object Oriented Programming functionality of Oracle.
In the database we defined an object type, which is then considered inside another object type. The thing is, that I cannot read an attribute of the inner object. I've read tens of websites but none of them have helped so far. I've read the PL/SQL User Guide and Reference document also.
The inner object is defined as follows:
create type address_t as object (
            street varchar(50),
            city varchar(50),
            pcode number(5,0)
);The outer object has an object of type address_t inside it:
    CREATE TYPE professor_t as OBJECT(
              code number(2),
              p_name varchar(50),
              address address_t,
);Also, there is a table named PROFESSORS that stores objects of type professor_t
First of all, with a simple testing SQL statement I can see the data inside the object professor, even the object address_t:
SELECT * FROM PROFESSORS WHERE CODE = 13;returns the following:
    CODE    |         NAME      |       ADDRESS
13      |         JOHN     |       MYSCHEMA.ADDRESS_T('FIFTH AVENUE','NEW YORK',12345)The thing is, I want to read the field street of the object address (of type address_t) inside professor (of type professor_t).
I could see everywhere that the way to go is to use point notation, and I've seen examples about the command VALUE, but none of the following SQL statements work:
    SELECT VALUE(ADDRESS.STREET) FROM(
      SELECT CODE,P_NAME,ADDRESS FROM PROFESSORS WHERE CODE = 13);
    SELECT ADDRESS.STREET FROM PROFESSORS WHERE CODE = 13;
SELECT PROFESSOR.ADDRESS.STREET FROM PROFESSORS WHERE CODE = 13;I'd really appreciate if someone could show me how to access the values of the field of the object inside an object.
    Thanks in advance,
    - David

    Great, this worked so far.
It is curious that you wrote 'profesores' but that is the actual name for the variable. I translated everything to english in order to post it here.
    So, the statement is:
select value(t).DIRECCION.CIUDAD from profesores t;And It returned:
    VALUE(T).DIRECCION.CIUDAD
    Valencia
    New York
TijuanaAnd, applying the VALUE command to the statement:
    select codigo,
    nombre,
    value(t).DIRECCION.CALLE,
    value(t).DIRECCION.CIUDAD,
    value(t).DIRECCION.CP
    from profesores T WHERE T.CODIGO = 13;Resulting in:
    CODIGO                 NOMBRE                                             VALUE(T).DIRECCION.CALLE                           VALUE(T).DIRECCION.CIUDAD                          VALUE(T).DIRECCION.CP
13                     Pepito Pérez                                       Calle de los Rosales 0                           Valencia                                           46023                  That is EXACTLY what I needed.
Thanks Thomas, It was really helpful !

  • How to read specific fields from BW table  into ABAP?

    Hi Experts,
Can someone help me how to use to FM: RFC_READ_TABLE to read specific fields from a BW  table '/bic/zcust_chO01' which DOESN't EXIST IN ABAP.
I am getting an error in OPTIONS & DATA parameters.
Any help would be higly appreciated with points.
    Thanks
    Dan

    Dan,
FM: RFC_READ_TABLE is a RF FM so by providing BW system's RF destination you can get the values from required table.
    TRY this:
    CALL FUNCTION RFC_READ_TABLE destination <BW_RF_destination>
    Susanth.

    Hi Laxmi,
I am able to read the values before edited and after editing. Code i have written is in the ONENTER action method. I have simply read the Table node values.
    1. Applicaiton data
    2. Values In Debugging mode by clicking on Enter button on the second row.
    3. Edit second value and click on Enter

  • How to read the field type from field id of DynamicFldTbl

    Hi,
In my application, i am using DynamicFldTbl, whch parses FML32 field table definition file. My field table definition file contains information about field names and its types.
I checked the API of DynamicFldTbl and didn't find any API to get the field type from field it.
Any way to read the field type from field id?
    Thanks in advance
    Raguraman

    Hi Raguraman,
Once you have the field table, you can then create an FML32 buffer (TypedFML32) using the constructor that takes a field table, and then use the Fldtype() method on the specific field ID you wish to get the type of. I know this is sort of tedious and we should provide Fldtype() and some others on the field table class directly.

  • How to read Choice Field values in a Formula of ohter shrepoint field

    Hi,
i want to read choice field values(total values) in formula of other sharepoint calculated column field.
    Can anyone please help me.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Sandeep

    Hi,
According to your description, you might need to set the value of a column with the option from a Choice Field based on the value of another column(Site Column 1).
The OOTB Calculated Formulas doesn’t provide such functionality to read the options of a Choice Field, we can do it via SharePoint JavaScript Client Object Model instead.
Here is a documentation about SharePoint JavaScript Client Object Model :

  • Nvarchar fields using Transparent Gateway for MS SQL

We are using TG to make a number of tables/views available in an Oracle database. The tables in question contain a number of nvarchar fields which are expected to contain Unicode data. These fields cause a number of problems when accessed in Oracle. Firstly, queries returning any nvarchar(x) (for some x) fields hang when they are run in Oracle and it is necessary to reset the connection before running another query! Fields with type nvarchar(max) do come through, however they come through as type LONG, which is very difficult to do anything useful with in Oracle and cannot be searched on.
We are working around the problem by creating views in MS SQL on top of our original tables/views which cast nvarchar(x) to varchar(x). We are then able to query these new views in Oracle, search on text fields etc. However, MS SQL does not properly support UTF-8 in varchar fields and the conversion results in downgrading our data to the latin-1 character set. Note casting nvarchar(x) to nvarchar(max) in MS SQL does not work, the queries still hang. We also have a problem where the length of the nvarchar field in MS SQL is longer than the max supported varchar2 length in Oracle. In this case TG will again provide a LONG converted field.
We would like to know how to get full Unicode data to come across Transparent Gateway. We would be happy to get our data in the Oracle nvarchar2 type, or varchar2 with utf8 would also be fine, ideally with clob/nclob for over-length fields. Alternatively any solution which allows us to access full Unicode data would probably be acceptable. We only need to query the data from inside one ETL package, which will store the transformed data in Oracle, so a solution which involves a cast at this stage would also be acceptable, although obviously having the data show up correctly directly through TG would be better.

    Heya,
Here is an example table in SQL Server:
    CREATE TABLE [dbo].[tblPnLCostNames](
         [ID] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL,
         [Name] [nvarchar](2048) NOT NULL,
         [Group] [nvarchar](50) NULL,
          [nvarchar](50) NULL,
         [Description] [nvarchar](1024) NULL,
    CONSTRAINT [PK_tblPnLCostNames] PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED
         [ID] ASC
    )WITH (PAD_INDEX  = OFF, STATISTICS_NORECOMPUTE  = OFF, IGNORE_DUP_KEY = OFF, ALLOW_ROW_LOCKS  = ON, ALLOW_PAGE_LOCKS  = ON) ON [PRIMARY]
    ) ON [PRIMARY]
And in Oracle I did this:
      CREATE TABLE "FOR_DW_DEV01"."UNICODE_COST_TEST"
       (     "ID_" NUMBER,
         "NAME_" LONG,
         "GROUP_" VARCHAR2(50 CHAR),
         "CODE_" VARCHAR2(50 CHAR),
         "DESCRIPTION_" VARCHAR2(1024 CHAR)
Now I want to be able to say:
insert into unicode_cost_test ( id_, name_, group_, code_, description )
    select "ID", to_lob( "Name" ), "Group", "Code", "Description" from tblPnlCostNames@my_link;
The other fields are shorter and will go straight in to varchar2 fields as UTF-8 with no problems following some tweaks to the gateway ini file. Anything over 2000 characters comes across as a LONG, but trying to use the to_lob function results in "ORA-00997: illegal use of LONG datatype". Doing the same thing using a local table with a LONG field as the source works fine. Is to_lob supposed to work on LONG fields that come across the gateway?
I found this in the 11.2.0.2.2 bugfix list:
10157402 - lob segment has null data after long to lob conversion in parallel mode
    (ftp://ftp.hj.se/Oracle/Patchar/11.2.0.2/psu_april_2011/download.htm#BABDIEDD)
    Could this be related?
The only way I have found to read the LONG fields so far that works is to use select into, and read each value individually!

When a read only field is in a user role and the field is removed, the read only flag disappears.
How can controls be implemented so that a role can not be added back in and the read only doesn't follow.
It is important to have some fields read only and some edittable and they may change periodically.

There is two ways to make a field "Read Only". (1) in step 2 of a Layout (2) Edit the field in the Field Setup.

  • Use of nvarchar field in a Unicode database

    Hi,
I'm using an application (SPI) where, in the manual of this application, is clearly stated under the chapter to create the Oracle database:
    i. Under Database Character Set, select Use Unicode (AL32UTF8).
ii. Under National Character Set, select AL16UTF16 (the default).
Then, in the latest version of SPI all varchar fields where changed to nvarchar fields.
Now I'm wondering what the advantage could be of this setup.
In a Unicode database, I can already store any international character set in a varchar field, so why would they use nvarchar?
I do see the disadvantage, because in various SQL's against this database I get ORA-12704 (Character set mismatch errors) when using
    select
    tag from ..
    union
select '-' from ... instead I have to add a cast
    select
    tag from ..
    union
select cast('-' as nvarchar2(1)) from ...

Now I'm wondering what the advantage could be of this setup.Hard to say but plenty of disadvantages.

  • Does only Adobre Reader "reads" the fields of a PDF when created with Acrobat?

I created a PDF with several fields and exported it.
Then I tried to open it with Firefox and the fields didn't appear.
But it works OK with Adobe Acrobat.
Does only Adobre Reader "reads" the fields of a PDF when created with Acrobat?

Adobe software reads form fields. The rules for how to do form fields are a part of the PDF standard (a book available to anyone) but some companies ignore it and others do half a job. To be safe, use only Adobe Reader. And beware of browsers that ignore Adobe Reader even if you have it.

  • Implementing BADI TRIP_WEB_NUMBER, problem reading a field

    Hi All,
Have anyone implemented BADI TRIP_WEB_NUMBER before,
    Interface : IF_EX_TRIP_WEB_NUMBER
    Method:     USER_EXIT_NUMBER_INTERNAL
    I need a help.
In this method i have exporting parameter NUMBER_RANGE TYPE INRI-NRRANGENR
so my requirement is just to change this parameter for particular conditon.
Problem is to make condition i need a field SCHEMA
    You can check Structure HEAD_PERIO-SCHEM
    or elset T706S OR T706T...
I need to read that field at runtime somehow, how can i achieve that pls help.
i can able to read only the date....
    Pls help..
    Thanks

Find out the main program name where the variable HEAD_PERIO-SCHEMA is declared. Then you can use the ABAP call stack method to retrieve the variable like below. This method can only be used to read a variable from ABAP call stack memory, that is the variable should be available in the scope of the program which is present in the run time call stack your BADI gets called in.
    DATA: lv_name_xvbak(30)  VALUE   '(SAPMV45A)VBAK'.
    FIELD-SYMBOLS: <xvbak> TYPE  vbak.
    * Retrieve Sales order details from abap stack
    ASSIGN (lv_name_xvbak) TO <xvbak>.
    IF sy-subrc NE 0.
      EXIT.
    ENDIF.
In the above code you can replace SAPMV45A with the main program name where field SCHEMA is available and VBAK with HEAD_PERIO (the structure or internal table where the field you want is available)
    For accessing internal tables similarly
    DATA:  lv_name_xvbap(30)  VALUE   '(SAPMV45A)XVBAP[]'.
FIELD-SYMBOLS: <xvbap> TYPE TABLE OF vbap.
    ASSIGN (lv_name_xvbap) TO <xvbap>.
    IF sy-subrc NE 0.
      EXIT.
    ENDIF.
