Importing XML into Java. Help needed Please!!!
Hi,
I have downloaded j2sdk1.4.1_05 and want to configure it to import XML files into a DOM in Java. I am having trouble doing this and need help. I read that version 1.4 support JAXP 1.1 but I am having trouble finding the JAXP-api.jar file. It says to put all the other Jar files into a folder and leave the JAXP-api.jar.
Could you please tell me how to set up Java so that I can import an XML file. I also downloaded JAXP 1.2. But there seems to be no installer.
Thanx JohnYou can learn about reading xml in java by reading the J2EE tutorial at
http://java.sun.com/j2ee/1.4/docs/tutorial/doc/
Here is sample program to read XML file into a DOM taken from this tutorial

Read, Modify and Apply Report XML using Java Script
Hi Guys,
Is there any way that we can Pragmatically Read, Modify and Apply Report XML using Java Script or some other way.
Thanks
Kaushik
Edited by: Kaushik K on Jun 20, 2012 8:36 PMRequirement ::
Users should be able to add Column to the Report Dynamically at Runtime.
(There are around 1000+ Users, Answers Approach is not acceptable)
So we are planning to provide a Multi Select / Shuttle Box Option for Users to add Columns dynamically. (Only for Table View)
What we planned to DO ::
Create a Presentation Variable Prompt, Which reads the Metadata Table (Presentation Table.Column Name, populated using the Metadata Dictionary)
And Create a report with One Column and the Column Fx like @{var_dynamic_columns}{'"Time"."Year","Time"."Month"'}
With this, OBIEE is rewriting the Logical SQL Currently as "Select "Time"."Year","Time"."Month" from "A - Sample Sales" "
But getting an error
The number of columns returned in retrieving column metadata was invalid (expected: 1; received: 2)
So we want to see, if we can rewrite the Advanced XML of the Report to have dynamic columns based on the Values from the Presentation Variable.
Please help me if this is a viable solution or any other better solution. -
How to read and write XML in java
I have a code that reads a large XML file, splits it into smaller files, filters and then writes it into a new XML file. My problem is that I had coded the input file name into the code, so that only the specified file can be read. How can I rewrite my code to be able to take any input xml and perform the same operation? Here's a portion of my code below:
File file = new File("c:\\APAdjustmentJVDoc_FINAL.xml");
output = new BufferedWriter(new FileWriter(file));
for (int i = 1; i < 79; i++) {
fIStream = new FileInputStream("c:\\APAdjustmentJVDoc_new" + i + ".xml");
loRead = new InputStreamReader(fIStream);
doc = XMLUtil.transformToNode(loRead, false);
System.out.println("Reading from file " + "c:\\APAdjustmentJVDoc_new" + i + ".xml");
writeFile(doc, docIdList, output);
fIStream.close();
loRead.close();
System.out.println("Output file complete");
} catch (Exception e) {
e.printStackTrace();
} finally {
if (output != null) {
output.close();
if (fIStream != null) {
fIStream.close();
} catch (Exception e) {
e.printStackTrace();
You need to pass your filename String as a parameter to your functionality. It depends how you're currently set up though. We can't really see the top of your call so it's difficult to determine what you are calling and we don't really know from where you're calling either.
If you're running standalone, then on launch of the application, you can feed in a file name as an argument that you can read in in String args[] in the main function and pass down to your XML splitter.
If you're a method in a class that's part of a bigger pile, you can feed the file name as a String to the method from wherever you call from if it makes sense architecturally.
You might also want to pass down a File object if that makes sense in your current code (i.e. if you're using your file for other purposes prior to the split, to avoid recreating closing/opening for no reason).
Depends what you're trying to do. If I put together a piece like this, I would probably create an <yourcurrentrootpackage>.xml.splitter package.
Also, on a side note, you're problem isn't really reading and writing XML in java, but seems more to be making your functionality generic so that any XML file can be split with your code.

XML in Java: does encoding matter when it's only used for data?
Hi everybody,
I have a text document that I've converted into XML, and that I read into my Java program. The encoding I have to use to support accented characters, iso-8859-1, doesn't support certain characters, like curly quotes or em dashes. I'm not planning on displaying my XML document on a web page, just to use it as a data format for ease of access. (By the way, to everybody who's mentioned XML to me in the past, I finally realize how cool it is!)
Anyhow, after all that rambling, my question is: since I'm using characters that aren't supported by my encoding set, does it matter that the XML isn't "perfect" and has some characters in it that are technically illegal? Eventually I'm going to read it into a different Java program and just parse it, where I'll need those characters. I sort of got the impression that it didn't matter if you're not planning on displaying the XML on the web.
EDIT: I forgot one thing -- if it doesn't matter, does that mean I wouldn't need to have the "xml version" line at the top of the document?
Any clarification on this would be great!
Thanks,

jezzica85You would have to make a cable that will plug into the Nano and serve as an antenna (the headphone cable serves this purpose) and triggers the radio without touching the headphone contact. There are some custom shops that can probably make such a custom jack/cable for you, should not cost you much more than $100 or so USD. But you will still have the problem that the jack you have made will preclude you from docking your Nano with the Anywhere 2.
A much more inexpensive solution would be to buy a cable like this: http://www.monstercable.com/productdisplay.asp?pin=4572 and connect it to the headphone jack on your Nano and to the audio in jack on the back of the Anywhere 2. The longer the cable the better antenna. You won't be able to charge the Nano while you listen, but you can do that after you are done listening to FM. -
How can i read XML string in a loop???
i changed xml file reader to xml string reader by
looking around this and other forums.
here is the code.
public class XMLTester2 {
public static void main(String[] args) {
String s = "<firsttag><secondtag>123</secondtag></firsttag>";
java.io.Reader reader = new java.io.StringReader(s);
org.xml.sax.InputSource source = new org.xml.sax.InputSource(reader);
org.w3c.dom.Document doc = null;
javax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilderFactory fact = javax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance();
try {
javax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilder builder = fact.newDocumentBuilder();
doc = builder.parse(source);
} catch (javax.xml.parsers.ParserConfigurationException pce) {
} catch (org.xml.sax.SAXException se) {
} catch (java.io.IOException ioe) {
} finally {
try {
reader.close();
} catch (java.io.IOException ignored) {
}i put this stuff into a loop, but i always ends up
having new in the loop.
String inputLine = "Start";
// define what's needed for XML messages
Reader reader = new StringReader(inputLine);
InputSource source = new InputSource(reader);
Document doc = null;
DocumentBuilderFactory fact = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance();
DocumentBuilder builder = null;
Node xmlNode = null;
try {
builder = fact.newDocumentBuilder();
} catch (ParserConfigurationException pce) {
// -->
while ( (inputLine = in.readLine()) != null) {
System.out.println("readLine() : {" + inputLine + "}");
reader = new StringReader(inputLine);
source.setCharacterStream(reader);
try {
doc = builder.parse(source);
} catch (SAXException se) {
System.out.println("SAXException : " + se);
System.out.println("SAXException source : " + source.toString() );
se.printStackTrace();
} catch (IOException ioe) {
System.out.println("IOException : " + ioe);
} finally {
try {
reader.close();
} catch (IOException ignored) {
reader = null;i know putting new in the loop is VERY bad.
i gotto get ride of this new from the loop.
can anyone help me?i know putting new in the loop is VERY bad.
i gotto get ride of this new from the loop.Don't design your application based on one-liners you heard somewhere. Do some timings to see if it matters. My guess would be that parsing an XML file would take a fair bit longer than creating a StringReader object. And you do need a new StringReader each time, they aren't reusable, so the alternatives are not obvious. And don't accept my guess about the timings, check it for yourself. -
Is there any way to read XML directly from a Web Page ??
i have a url, which on sending request, shows XML in browser.
Now i need to read this XML in browser and then manipulate it according to my need and display it on another page.
actually the process is. :
1) i have to first retrieve an xml from other site. (XML will only be shown in browser)
2.)then i have to read the Xml and show it in according to my requirements.
Is there any way to read XML directly from a Web Page ??
is their logic to accomplish this.
e.g in Servlet i can do somewhat like this :
String wholeXml=Somemethod(url);
Please Advicethe average Java XML parser will accept an InputStream, so just open an URLConnection to the webpage, get the inputstream from it and feed that inputstream to the XML parser. If the URL has valid XML data, it will get parsed without problems.

Reading files from Java embedding.
Dear All,
My BPEL process has a Java embedding node, and it invokes a Java class, in which an xsl file is being read for transformation.
I deploy the xsl files directory together with BPEL package (the jar). In the package, I put the file dir at the root level, which means the jar structure looks like the following:
/BPEL-INF
/META-INF
/xsd
/xsl
*.wsdl
*.bpel
bpel.xml
The java class is package in /BPEL-INF dir, it's supposed to read files from /xsl dir.
My question is, how should I put the file path?
I tried "/xsl/***.xsl" and "../xsl/***.xsl", neither works. Although "/xsl/***.xsl" worked when testing in JDeveloper, but FileNotFound after deployment.
Thanks,
HaiboI solved this issue by putting the files dir in /BPEL-INF/classes/. and use ClassLoader to read in those files.

How can I use SAX to Read XML in JSP?
I created a class which extend DefaultHandler of SAX. I can use java to call this class and read XML data without any problems. But I can't call this class through JSP. Looks it didn't active startElement() when I called from JSP. Do you have any ideas on this case?
======================This is java call and works==============
import java.io.*;
import java.util.*;
import ReadXmlSax;
public class ReadElement
public static void main(String argv[])
ReadXmlSax r = new ReadXmlSax();
Enumeration e = r.getAttribute("dre.xml","server","name");
try{
while (e.hasMoreElements()) {
System.out.println((String)e.nextElement());}
}catch(Throwable t){
t.printStackTrace();
======================================================================
========================This is jsp call but doesn't work=============
<%@ page import = "java.util.*" %>
<%@ page import = "java.io.*" %>
<%@ page import = "ReadXmlSax" %>
<html>
<head><title>SAX Reader</title></head>
<body>
<%
ReadXmlSax r = new ReadXmlSax();
Enumeration e = r.getAttribute("dre.xml","server","name");
while (e.hasMoreElements()) {
out.println(e.nextElement());
out.println("<br>");
%>
</body>
</html>
======================================================================maybe you just simply can't reach dre.xml from your web server!
