My iPod touch is disabled, it says to connect to iTunes and I did but it is still disabled! How do I get it not to be disabled without also erasing all my files and data in my iPod?

I really need help with this, my iPod was disabled by my brother and I don't know how to get it back to normal again. I connected it to iTunes and it still shows up there with all my songs. However, the iPod itself is not working. I've tried multiple things but I don't want my data to be erased so im a bit cautious about what to do. Also, it would help if someone could explain what exactly happens when an iPod is 'restored' 'restored mode' or in 'recovery mode'. If someone could help me it'd be much appreciated. Thanks

You need to restore.
Everything should be on your computer, so you can just sync it back.
