Real Time ADC/DAC for SMPS using Labview and USB

Hello all,
I have asked the sales department this same question, so here's a two-pronged approach:
I am reserching a control algorithm for a switch-mode power supply, and so far, the simulations for its performance look good. Now, the goal is to implement the circuit for experimental data.
I've seen several NI USB DAQ boxes that appear to have the performance I'm looking for (for example, the USB-6211 would have the resolution and sampling rate that I need).
The control algorithm uses the following math functions: add/sub/mult/div/exponent, and derivative/integral.
My question is this: is Labview "strong" enough to take in four channels of 250Ksps data, crunch the numbers in an equation, and spit out the answer to an analog out channel, all in REAL time? I'm looking for an analog output rate of ~100kHz.

So if you were just trying to perform an input or output then the USB-6211 would certainly be able to handle it because the hardware clock would be handling the input/output, not software. However, what you're wanting to do, basically a feedback system, will require software timing (at least for a USB device) because you'll have to be able to actively specify what the output is. So, for that reason alone, and the fact that you want 100kHz output, this device and USB devices in general won't be an option no matter what software you use, LabVIEW or otherwise. On another note, what you're looking to do sounds more like live updating, not Real-Time, which is more about jitter. Bottom line, for these kinds of requirements, you're going to need to move to an FPGA board, something like the NI PCIe-7841R would work. It's more expensive, but for your requirements, FPGA is going to be the only option and it comes down to bus latency as well as software response time. With FPGA, as is shown in the first diagram of the following document, you're basically closing your software loop through hardware.

Looking for information using labview and measuing Hydrogen\Oxygen duing Electrolysis tia sal2

I'm looking for any information on how to setup labview 7.1 to measure Hydrogen/Oxygen during electrolysis. Can someone send us information on what equipment we would need.
PS we don't have deep pockets we currently have labview 7.1 and we are testing with a usb 6008 currently.

Hi sal2-
In order to measure concentrations of these elements during processing you will first need to select an appropriate transducer. Perhaps another user with more experience in electrolysis processing can suggest the external hardware.
Once your transducer is properly configured you will just need to read the signals into your USB-6008 as voltage signals and scale them in software. A great example of this is found in the NI Example Finder for LabVIEW (Help>>Find Examples) by browsing to Hardware Input and Output>>DAQmx>>Analog Measurements>>Voltage>>Cont Acq & Graph Voltage-IntClk.

Real-time data acquisition for HR datasources

Dear Experts,
I have a couple of questions on real-time data acquisition...
a) Can you tell me if any standard HR datasources support real-time data acquisition?
b) Can we apply real-time data acquisition for generic datasources? If yes, is there any difference in the process compared to working with business content datasources when using real-time data acquisition?
Hope you can provide some answers...as always, points will be awarded for answers that effectively address the questions.

Hi Karthik,
a)The decision to go for SAP remote cube depends on the volume of data and the frequency of queries. It is advicible not to use the SAP remote cube if the data volume is high and also, the query frequency is high. Which module in HR are yuo implementing? In HR, the data volume is generally high. So, if you go for loading the data from R/3 every 3 hours, you are asfe as long as the loading volumes are less. For example, for implementing Time management, I would not advice frequent loads as it is time consuming process. So, make a decision based on the above mentioned lines. If the data volume is not high, I would prefer the SAP ermote cube as it will reduce managing the loads.
b)I mentioned FM extractor just for the sake of control of data selection. You can even go for view/table extractor.

1) The best way to relocate the iTunes library folder is to move the entire iTunes folder with all subfolders to the new path, then press and hold down shift as start iTunes and keep holding until prompted to choose a library, then browse to the relocated folder and open the file iTunes Library.itl inside it.
If you've done something different then provide some more details about what is where and I should be able to help.
2) Purchases on the device should automatically transfer to a Purchased on <DeviceName> playlist, but it my depend a bit on whether automatic iCloud downloads are enabled. If there is a cloudy link then the transfer might not happen. You can use File > Devices > Transfer Purchases. In iTunes you should also check out iTunes Store > Quick Links > Purchased > Music > Not on this computer.
3) Backup the device, then immediately restore it. In some cases you need to add a restore as new device into that equation. Obbviously not to be attempted until you're sure all your media is in your library. See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device should it be needed.
4) I believe there is complimentary 1 incident 90-day support with hardware purchases, but no free software support for iTunes itself. AppleCare gets you a different level of support.

When I click on Creative Cloud logo, indicator for time passing goes for a few seconds and stops, but app not opening (it used to). Any ideas?

I've never used this feature to ask a question. Pardon not knowing etiquette and such. When I click on Creative Cloud logo/icon on my desktop, the indicator for time passing goes for a few seconds and stops, but CC app not opening.
CC app used to work on this same computer a few months ago. No changes to operating system. Photoshop is still working. Just wanted to download Lightroom and perhaps begin learning it, but to no avail.
Tried to look for a way to reinstall Adobe CC, but it says I already have it.
Any ideas?

Using LabVIEW and an E-Series DAQ Card to perform relatively high speed single point acquisition in response to a changing DIO pattern.

I am using the DIO lines on my E-series card to drive an external multiplexer which switches 1 of 8 sets of 3 signals to channels 0,1 and 2 on my DAQ. I need to acquire the 3 single points of data, do a little processing, then update the mux code before acquiring the next 3 points of data and so on. I have been trying to do this using hardware controlled loops but can only achieve a real sampling rate (time between the same set of three signals) of about 200s/s. I am trying to achieve in excess of 800 s/s. Any ideas?.

You are doing pretty good if you are getting 200S/s.
I believe the only way you can get 800 S/s reliably is to go to LV-Real Time. Not for the speed, but for the determinism.

Francesco, Thank you for the feedback. With this component it was my intention to make a more "terse" version of the LabVIEW Flatten to XML VI that was also supported on RT and that gave the user more flexbility regarding the structure of the parsing type definition. I think you are right that the XML parser is not compliant to section 2.11 of the XML spec. The parser does specifically looking for a #D#A and this appears to be an oversight on my part. Please confirm for me, the specifcation is saying that the XML parser should be able to recognize three possibilities as an "end of line" character: #D#A, #D, or #A. Am I reading this right?There are more efficient (and in some cases much more efficient) ways of sharing data between LabVIEW and LabVIEW: some examples are flattened binary strings and the datalog binary format. XML is slower than these optons but the upside is that it is human readable. Furthermore XML is inherently hierarchical which is convenient for complex data structures like clusters of arrays of clusters, etc. If you don't care about human readability then you are correct XML doesn't make as much sense.I will return to the GXML source code and try to fix this in the near future but I would hope that instead of creating yet another custom VI from scratch that you could reuse what I have provided for you. I included enough documentation in the source code so that users could make some modificiations themselves. The target application for this reference library was LabVIEW to LabVIEW communication. As such I documented the schema on the dev zone document from a LabVIEW perspective. It includes all the supported datatypes and all the supported data structures (cluters, arrays, multidimensional arrays, clusters of multidimensional arrays, etc.) I do see some value in making a more conventional XML spec but the time investment required didn't really line up with my intended use case. Specifically I am attempting to read data frames using the RP1210_READMESSAGE . am able to configure the hardware and send a message to the J1939 bus. . I think I have not configured something correctly. I can use the RP1210_SENDMESSAGE and see the message I have sent on the bus using CANalyzer When I use the RP1210_READMESSAGE I get the timestamp from a message and the return from the function sends back the correct number of bytes (the number matches the number of bytes I sent out plus four bytes from the timestamp). What I am having trouble with is actually receiving the data. I have had the same type of behavior from two different hardware (Vector CANcase XL and Nexiq USB Link), so I don't think the issue is vendor specific.
Has anyone been able to make the RP1210_RECIEVEMESSAGE function work correctly?

I have already tried that. The links are the NI RP1210 wraper. The problem I am having is using labview to interface with the RP1210 layer. The RecieveMessage char*fpchAPIMessage this is the output which is a pointer to a cahracter array. In this variable I can receive the timestamp of the message but not the message. The retun showns the correct amount of bytes are aviaable (18 for a 8 byte message) but I can only get the 4 byte timestamp I think I have to dereference this pointer to view the data. I am not sure how to fix this.

While I'm listening to my music iTunes will just stop playing the song for at least 5 minutes and I can't force quit why does it do that? This is the first time I have ever felt like my iMac is just as bad as a PC and I wonder if Steve Jobs would have let the program be relase to the public with all the problems involved. No wonder Maverick was free. IT ***** BIG TIME!

Since you are experiencing this issue with both a wired and wireless connection only on your home network and not at other locations, this issue would related to your router. I would first recommend power cycling the router and testing the connection again. If the issue persists, try updating your routers settings per the article below.

By using labview and kinect, how to recognize some sample world like 'ok', 'help', and voice like crying and screaming?

This is not really a LabVIEW question, but a signal processing question. Do you have a set of crying sounds in order to be able to calibrate whatever algorthm you are trying to implement?

Apple certified cable for AV RCA out and USB sync with BMW car's COMBOX

My recently purchased Apple certified cable for AV RCA out and USB sync works very well with the PC and TV. I bought it to connect to my BMW car's COMBOX interface which is designed to connect to Apple products.
It doesn't even power up and BMW fails to recognize iPod, same combox works well with the original usb sync cable which came with the iPod but that doesn't have AV out so can't play music and video to the head unit. I think this could be due to low power coming from the car's USB, am I right to think this? If yes what options have I got to fix this? Can I supply additional power to iPod?

Can I use a camera for application in Labview and VBAI at the same time ?

I'm trying to save an AVI file with Labview and make an image process with VBAI at the same time, in one machine.
The error : "Camera already in use" displayed.
My Camera is a GIGE and I work with Imaqdx. I've test the multicast mode but it only operate with several machines.
How can I do this ?

I'm not necessarily saying that. It's been a while since I've used VBAI, so I don't remember all of the capabilities, but if VBAI can do the inspection and recording at the same time, you should be fine.
The trick is that only one program can access the camera at the same time. That application reserves the camera, thus making it unavailable to others.
