Realtek NIC cannot attach in Solaris 10 with Intel D945GCPE motherboard

Hope someone can help. I've seen references online to people having installed Solaris 10 on this board.
I can't get the NIC to work on on Solaris 10. I downloaded the drivers from Realtek's site. Ran the install script which said the drivers were installed but failed to attach.
prtconf doesn't show the drivers. I did a reconfigure reboot ( touch /reconfigure; reboot) and it didn't work so I get an error if I try and plumb the interface.
I created a /etc/hostname.rtls0 file and updated /etc/inet/hosts and /etc/inet/netmasks though I don't think that means anything at this point.
There's no setting to disable plug and play, just an acpi option to change from type 2 or 3 I believe.
I tried setting the acpi boot env variable using
eeprom acpi-user-options=0x2
but that just made the hard drive unreadable.
I tried setting pcplusmp:apic_forceload = -1 in /etc/system and that caused the system to hang.
From looking around online I'm wondering if the realtek drivers are 32bit? Can anyone confirm this?
If true, that might be causing the problems with the driver install since Solaris is installed as 64bit.
I'm going to try and build the drivers myself from the sources I found at http://homepage2.nifty.com/mrym3/taiyodo/eng/. Hopefully that's the only problem.
If anyone has any experience with this board please let me know.
Also, when Solaris hangs when booting up, CTRL-ALT-DEL doesn't reboot the system. I'm connected via IPKVM and can't do a hard reboot. Is there any other way to reboot the system when it hangs? CTRL-C don't do anything either.

If there's no corresponding driver in the amd64 directory, it's not 64 bit. But since you're getting messages from the driver at all, I doubt that's the issue.

I haven't been able to reboot yet to check. I'm just going by another forum posting I read that said the Realtek drivers were 32bit. Stupid question, but amd64 is just an old convention from when Sun first started x86-64 servers with Opterons, and all 64 bit drivers go in that directory even if the underlying processor is Intel right?
This tech note http://access1.sun.com/technotes/01146.html led me to believe it was the 32bit driver on 64bit OS that was the problem since the install script claimed to install everything fine and I remember checking at least the /kernel/drv directory. At the time, I didn't think to check adm64, actually, I didn't even notice it installed in 64bit mode.

DarrenAh, F1-A, that's the x86 equivalent to Stop-A. That link was very helpful, unfortunately F1-A does nothing. I'm stuck on "Use is subject to license terms" with a blinking underscore. I tried setting up a keyboard macro in the kvm client for F1-A too and that didn't work either. Looks like I need to add boot-file=kadb into /boot/solaris/bootenv.rc to enable the debugger. ctrl-break, shift-break, ctrl-shift-break, ctrl-\, ctrl-alt-break, ctrl-a, ctrl-q, ctrl-s, ctrl-] as well as slamming both hands repeatedly on the keyboard while screaming profanities also failed to reboot the system. The person I was working with at the data center left for the day, I need to see if I can find someone else to reboot this.
One thing I read on that link you provided, it said using reboot -- -r is bad on x86 systems. Do you know if that might be what caused the problems and not the eeprom or /etc/system settings? When I get into failsafe mode, do I need to make any changes to /boot/solaris/bootenv.rc to undo the reboot -- -r command? I didn't get the errors the FAQ said I'd be getting if I used that option so I think everything might be ok.

    The Intel 946GZIS motherboard should have a 5.1 onboard audio system and it should be able to support a 4.1 speaker system but it will be best for you to confirm the the motherboard onboard audio capability with the motherboard manufacturer.

  • Cannot attach ndiswrapper module to Intel 4965 card

    I am trying to get working reliably my Intel 4965 wifi card. I gave up with the iwl4965 driver, and now I am trying to find a good win driver to use it via ndiswrapper. But it seems I cannot even attach the ndiswrapper module to my card! I removed the iwl4965 module, and added the ndiswrapper module - I can confirm this with lsmod | grep iwl (empty output) and lsmod | grep ndis (in the output appears a line starting with "ndiswrapper"). But if I do lspci -k, in the section of the wireless controller there's "Kernel modules: iwl4965". (Also, according to iwconfig no wireless interface is created)

    That lspci output is telling you what module is capable of handling your device, not what module is actually handling your device. lspci will never show ndiswrapper because it is not specific to a particular device.
    Did you actually find a suitable windows driver? You only said you're trying to find it. If you did find it, are you sure you installed the correct files in the correct place?

    If you are using the Document to email shortcut in the scan application you will need to use Microsoft outlook to send it. If you are using a web bases email application you will need to do a normal document scan, and then manually attach the document to the email message.

When the install fails in the desktop console mode like this, is there a way to send a command to reboot the server? Sending ctrl-alt-del through the kvm client doesn't do anything. In case this happens again I'd like to be able to reboot myself.
    I'm retrying the install in the console desktop mode so if it fails again I can probably open up a terminal window and issue the reboot command.

    Retail Leopard disc looks like this;
    (The disc itself has the same logo). If the one you've got is grey it simply won't work.
    Given the retail and second hand prices of Leopard (usually some on Amazon MP), you'll probably find it cheaper to go directly to Snow Leopard, although there could be software updates and printer driver problems that could nullify the difference.

    Correct. It has always been that way in OS X. Applications, particularly from Apple, belong in the Applications Folder, where update installers can find them and link to associated system files that may be updated as well without you realising it.

  • ISCSI boot with Intel NICs added to windows 2008 r2 routing table causes non iscsi traffic to attempt default routes on iscsi networks

    I have a server with Intel 82576 Gigabit Dual Port Nics.  I have configured them to use iSCSI boot the primary looks to 10.0.0.1/24 and the secondary looks to 10.0.1.1/24.  The target is configured correctly.  Everything boots as expected.
     I have added the MPIO feature and configured MPIO for the iscsi initiator as per: http://blogs.technet.com/b/migreene/archive/2009/08/29/3277914.aspx.
     My issue is that the iSCSI networks show up in the routing table like so:
    I did not configure a default route in the Intel setup utility:
    I tried to explicitly remove the 0.0.0.0 entry and leave blank, with no change.  As you can see with the above routing table traffic attempts to travel over these routes:

    A ping to the outside world first attempts on 10.0.0.x/24 network, then on 10.0.1.x/24 network and then finally on the network the traffic should go over.  I don't want my iSCSI traffic to ever show up with a default route.  How do I get rid of it?

    route delete 0.0.0.0 deletes all default routes, then I have to add back in the "valid default route" of 192.168.100.6.
    I would like to not have to do a route delete though.

    So I've sort of given up on fixing the gateway assignment in the route for iSCSI boot.  I configured a DHCP server to give out the information required by iSCSI boot and configured the network cards to use DHCP for their configuration.  I insured
    that my DHCP server gave out no default gateway entry.  However, I still got the undesired routes in the routing table.  This makes me assume that there isn't a "fix" for it, only the workaround.
    Here is the script I run on each iSCSI Boot initiator (you would obviously change the ip number to suit your environment):

  • 10g Forms Builder with error "cannot attach library" opening R12 fmb file

    Hi all,
    I had set up my Forms Builder with all the necessary PLL and FMB files for developing R12 custom forms. I have used the builder to do few custom PLLs and one custom form, and I did not have any problem opening seeded Oracle Forms. Today when I need to enhance that custom form I did 2 weeks ago and I opened Forms Builder, I got the error "Cannot attach library.." for APPCORE, APPDAYPK, etc.. Same error for opening TEMPLATE.fmb.
    I have done these to troubleshoot:
    1) I verified my Windows XP registry "FORMS_PATH" to include the folder where I store all the PLLs and FMBs.
    2) I updated default.env to include that file path.
    3) I create shortcut to Forms Builder and put folder path with PLLs under the "Start in" field of the shortcut.
    4) I rebooted my machine after changing the registry
    5) I moved the folder with PLLs to under C:; I seperate PLL to "resource" sub-folder and FMB to forms/US/ sub-folder just like the server structure.
    6) I install one more copy of Developer 10G Suite and set up the registry.
    None of these work and the key is it used to work with no issue. Any suggestions what may be the problems?

    Turned out I reloaded all the $AU_TOP forms and PLLs to my desktop and it worked fine. I think I did not FTP correctly the first time.

    the Intel Core Duo processor is a 32-bit only processor and not capable of 64-bit.
    Only the Core 2 Duo and later processors are capable of 64-bit.

    I am running the latest version of Safari on Snow Leopard, 64-bit. I, however, cannot attach and upload any files with it on any websites, such as Photobucket, Dropbox and even Gmail. When I chose a file, it just didn't pop up and start uploading. Is this just my problem?

    You don't want to run Safari in 64 bit mode...
    Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode. Also, (in that same window) make sure Safari is NOT running in Rosetta.
