Reason for using "UserID:password" for PKCS11 when it only accepts a pin?

With respect to TDE with HSM, I understand that the following command is used to set the master encryption key for Oracle Database 11g. However, why does a userID have to be specified, when the PKCS#11 library only requires a PIN?
ALTER SYSTEM SET ENCRYPTION KEY IDENTIFIED BY "userID:password"

we used this as an example; today, you'll find it mostly written as:
SQL> alter system set ... identified by "HSM_auth_string"; where "HSM_auth_string" can be "user_name:password", a "PIN", or just a "Password".

Apple helpline confirm reasonable for an ipad to only last 2 years.

Have an ipad 1 3g model, cost approx £500. 2 years 3 months old.
Problem when charging if it reaches 100%, ipad will completely shut down. Can take up to an hour to reboot.
Spoke to Apple. Realise I can record calls for personal use but they cannot be used as evidence in court.
Lady confirmed not unreasonable for the battery to give up after 2 years.
Sales of goods act allows up to 6 years to claim for faulty items. However im being advised a battery is a consumable and therefore not covered.
Firstly as yet we have no idea this is a battery fault, its fine once its rebooted ok.
Secondly, ipads1 I believe they even glue the battery in, warranties invalid if you try and replace the battery, device is made so the average consumer cannot replace battery.
This to me makes it an integral part of the ipad, not a consumable part that can be swapped in and out.
Therefore the lady at apple is confirming it is bot unreasonable to have a faulty ipad after 2 years but that apple will not assist. I was even told they could replace my ipad1 for £206. With another ipad1! Have all this on a recording.
Im posting here to see what other apple staff may suggest. Is this lady incorrect? Do you think its 'perfectly reasonable' for a £500 tablet to fail after 2 years.
Finally I would add the item was actually bought from Currys, Apple have actually been a lot more helpful than Currys. Currys simply dont want to know, pass the buck to Apple etc, even though the sales of goods act states my contract is with the seller. Ie Currys.
Apologies for the waffle, but this ipad was a present for my mum. She is very elderly and trying to deal with cancer. Skype and her emails have become a bit of lifeline to her.

pitch in wit that it being a battery issue sounds plausible and that all batteries dies sooner or later
and very few customers of anything ever change or buy a new battery unless the place they bought the device change the batt for them

Userid/Password intermittmently lost when automatically getting mail

The automatic "Get mail" intermittently loses the "remember me" and prompts for the password. What would cause it to lose the remembered password?

I have had this problem occasionally in the past and there are a number of related posts (with suggested solutions) on this forum. What worked for me was to open Keychain Access, select the login keychain, then open the Edit -> Change Settings for Keychain "login" window and either uncheck the "lock after xx minutes" setting or set it to xx minutes where xx is longer than the period you selected for "check for new messages" in Mail preferences. I also use a different password for my keychain (different from my login password so I know this complicates things somewhat).

Let's get this right... you ARE talking about a 2nd Gen Shuffle which you "updated" in iTunes 7.0.2? And before that it showed up on your desktop and in iTunes as it's supposed to and NOW it doesn't?
The reason I'm asking is that there's NO Tiger specific update to either generation of Shuffle, NOR is there a Tiger specific iTunes version...

I'm using the 7344 to control a wire bending machine implementing both the motion and digital 24V I/O when it only accepts 5V. Any suggestion?

I'm intended to control a machine wich was controled by a CNC and a PLC. My job is to substitute them by a PC with a 7344. The 7344 only has 5V I/O and I need 24V I/O to get this machine to work (24V relays, 24V I/O to the motor driver, etc). Can anyone tell me what converters/drivers to use?

We have a solid state relay solution so you can convert the TTL signal to a 24VDC that you are looking, we use an interface called SSR Backplane that has modules (is configurable) selectable from digital input or output (3-60VDC) as well as others. All you need is the motion cable SHC68-C68-S, the cable adapter for SSR backplanes, the SRR backplane and the corresponding module you want. Special notes to watch out is that the backplane requires voltage supply (check the manual) and you can select from the 8, 16 or 24 channel configurations, 32 is not supported. The manuals have the information on which port access which relay. If you you have more questions after looking on this links that I included feel free to give us a call.

Why does my camera roll use 10GB of my space, when I only have 508 photo's and video's on my camera roll?

I have some problems with the space on my Iphone 4s. I always get a message that says that I can't rec or can't take another picture because I don't have enough space on my phone. When I go to settings and check, my photo's and video's use almost 10GB (9,8GB). I have 407 pictures and 101 video's (not very long videos, more like short but many). In total i have 508 photo's and video's in my camera roll. My friends have like over a thousand pictures and video's, but they haven't used like 10GB of their space. So why does my 508 picutures and videos use som much more space??

Videos add up fast. A 30 second video on a 4S could easily be 85 MB. 101 of these would be almost 8.6 GB. Add 407 photos at 3 MB each and you reach 9.8 GB.
I would suggest you import some of these to your computer (especially some of the vidoes) and delete them from your phone, as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.

Using compressor DVD Studio Pro 4 will only accept ac3 format in the burn process. ac3 makes a nnsense of the good sound delivered, 30% reduction in volume, auto volume levelling giving unwanted volume variations. Used to be able to burn using AIFF/WAVE,

AS Above. Edited in FCPX. Excellent sound file. Using Compressor 4 to DVD Studio 4. Wanting AIFF or WAVE sound for acurate sound.
Previously DVD Studio 4 has accepted AIFF etc and delivered sound as reuired. Now, during the burn process everything other than ac3 is declined as 'video bit rate too high', but will burn if the AIFF format is replaced with ac3 (which I presume meanss the 'video bit rate too high' is referring to the sound file)
The issue with ac3 format is the huge reduction in original volume and worse, the 'auto volume levelling' that makes a nonsense of the original soundtrack - with simply aweful unwanted variations in volume Throughout the the dvd.
I have tried everything I can think of to get around this. The 'volume gain' in compressor doesn't make any difference. Exporting just AIFF and the Video to DVD 4 doesn't make any difference, it always declines anything but the aweful sound ac3 delivers.
I have customers awaiting a musci DVD, not with thei quality I can't.

The total video bit rate is determined by audio & video. Depending on what rate your video file was encoded at will determine how much room is left for audio. PCM(aiff/wav) audio requires a bigger piece of the pie. Video bit rate too high means your overall(video+audio) rate is going above 9Mbps which the format won't allow. The only way to use aiff would be to lower your video file's data rate. The length of your program is also a factor in all of this.
I had some problems in the past with using aiff instead ac3. Although there shouldn't be any issue I experienced playback issues on some players that couldn't be explained but were cleared up by ac3. I have been using the same specs as Dave's suggestion for almost nine years and have not had any issues with mix, quality, or levels.

You really should be using a password. So when you select your network it asks for a password when there isn't one? If you input nothing what happens?

Reason for Change LOV

Anyone know where the LOV is configured for the Reason for Change when an administrator updates an enrollment status? I'm sure I've done this before, but have a complete blank on it now!

Purpose of Reason for Change on Timesheets

We are using PWA 2010 for time reporting. There is a field on the timesheet called "Reason for Change". The only value I believe I've ever seen in this field is "Not Delayed", however, other possible values (from a Lookup
table) are "Under Estimated", "Access to Resources", "Assigned to higher priority work", "Technical issue", "Other".
To my knowledge there is nothing anyone does at my company that changes/sets the value of this field. Can someone help me understand how it is used? how it is set? its purpose? I've been looking online but cannot find anything that
talks about it.

What you are seeing is a custom field, created by your Project Server administrator, or perhaps by a consultant who might have set up your Project Server 2010 system. I can assure you that this field is NOT a default field. So, I would suggest
that you talk to your Project Server administrator to see if he/she set up this field. And if not, then I would suggest you talk to your consultant. And if nobody knows where this field came from, I would recommend that your Project Server administrator
remove it from the Timesheet-related views in PWA and then that the field be deleted. Just a thought. Hope this helps.

Use of active directory userid/password authentication instead of SAP R/3 User/Password for digital signature?

I am looking to setup the use of active directory userid/password authentication instead of SAP R/3 User/Password for digital signature. We SSO to the backened ABAP AS via an SAP NW Portal to which SPNEgo kerberos authentication is setup. Today we specify R3 user id/password to digitally approvae a lot release. The idea is to have users maintain one AD password and don't have to remember the R/3 password anymore and also our Security team to avoid password maintenance.
I know there are 3 options for digital signature and
System signature with authorization by user ID and password (We use this currently)
Digital User signature with verification - (We would like to use this with AD userid/password, so the system still ask the users their AD userid/password for the authentication when they try to "sign" a document.)
User signature without verification
Do you think there is a way to configure the system in order to ask and check the active directory userid/password instead of SAP R/3 password? Where can I found documentation about it ?
I have several different versions of AS ABAP starting from NW 7.02 to NW 7.31.
My active directory is based on Windows 2008.

Actually enabling Kerberos for SSO purposes and enabling Kerberos for digital signatures are two different topics although the latter is because of the former. I'm interested in the topic as well and I'm currently looking at different options. SAP provides a BAdI for the digital signature API which can be used for external authentication but they do not provide the solution to invoke Kerberos authentication based on username and password. SAP provides a semi solution with NWSSO 2.0 SP2 which works only on Windows with classic dynpros meaning SAP GUI for Windows is assumed. The solution is based on an ActiveX component which does the actual Kerberos authentication using the Secure Login Client which is part of the NWSSO suite. Extending that implementation to non-Windows and non-GUI applications would require some sort of web enabled service that could be used to authenticate the user with username and password. In case authentication is successful, a Kerberos token would be returned to SAP which would then be validated. All the required pieces are there since SAP has Kerberos support now in both stacks of the NetWeaver Application Server, some bits are still missing though which leaves customers looking at 3rd party or custom solutions.

I appreciate the info and realize that the Nook App is not related to my Apple account but this too has stopped working. My situation first started with the Nook App not down loading and then has now spread to my IBook and new app downloads. I have checked into my ITunes account and the ID and password are correct and at times when I am asked to submit my Apple password such as setting up this Apple Support Community the ID and password work. My problem seems to be just with trying to use my ID and password when wanting to download new books or apps. I can go into the IBook, Nook, and App stores and seemingly download an item but when clicking on the new book or app nothing happens and I get a message that states it can not get into the ITunes store and it wants me to either try again or cancel. This message appears usually ten minutes after I have tried to make a purchase. At other times when I attempt to download a book or app I lose the screen and the IPad goes into the opening screen. If you are trying to activate an iPad or iPhone and it is asking for a previous owners Apple ID and password, you have encountered the Activation Lock. This is a security feature that prevents thieves from setting up and using a stolen or lost iPad or iPhone. You have no alternative. You must contact the previous owner to get permission to use the device. If you cannot contact the previous owner return the device to where you bought it and get a refund. You will never be able to activate the device and no one can help you do it.
