Recently very slow YV box?

Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone else is suffering from or can shed some light on a more sluggish than usual Youview box (the first one not the more recent one) over the last few days or so.
I've generally had no major problems over the last year, occasionally slighlty sluggish/freezing etc but over the last few days the EPG has been VERY slow to load information. In fact on the IPTV channels, after waiting a while it throws up "no information available" or similar wording for anything a day in advance. Bit of a nuisance when trying to record something!!
System information gives:

A speedtest via my laptop (on wireless Ac):
According to BT my speed is good (between hub and exchange) and speed at computer is 37.6 download and 8.82 upload.
Another test with a different site (also via wireless) suggested similar results (very marginally slower) to above with an average ping of 25.4ms.
On basic Infinity with Hub 5. 
If anyone can make use of the information above and give me a reason not to declare BT TV unfit for purpose (alongside other ongoing issues with YV as a whole) and jump ship to Sky (ugh) or Virgin then do shout as I'd be grateful.....

Hi Duncj,
How are things with your BT YouView at the moment, are you still having problems with the EPG?
If so try restarting your BT Home Hub and BT TV box by disconnecting the power supply from the Hub and your BT TV box. Wait for ten seconds and then reconnect the Hub.
When you have a solid broadband light on your Hub and modem, reconnect the BT TV box to the power supply. Let me know how you get on?

    Hi Guys,
    I'm having a problem with the speed of my ADSL line. I've had a steady 6.5Mb from the connection since I moved in two years ago, but for the past 3-4 weeks it's been hovering between 512kbps to 1.9Mbps.
    I dumped the BT homehub router not long after I moved in because it died every time I tried copying data from one computer to another via wifi. I've been using a Belkin F7D4401 Play Max ever since.
    I spoke to India and they went through the usual steps of asking me to plug the router into the main socket, changing the microfilters, rebooting the router, etc. They eventually claimed they'd reset my line and the speed would come back over several days, but it has not.
    One more wrinkle to the story: I had a power cut last week and when the power came back, so did the speed of my connection. After about 3 days though I woke up one morning and found it was back to being really slow again.
    I'm connected via ethernet to the router which is connected via microfilter to the socket nearest where the phone line enters the house. I get the following on the BT Speed tester:
    Download speedachieved during the test was - 1.93 Mbps
    For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 0.6 Mbps-7.15 Mbps.
    Additional Information:
    Your DSL Connection Rate :8.06 Mbps(DOWN-STREAM), 0.45 Mbps(UP-STREAM)
    IP Profile for your line is - 7 Mbps
    My IP profile has stayed consistent throughout this, so I don't think it's a case of noise on the line (I have tried the Quiet Line test and could hear no crackling).

    OK, interesting developments. Since connecting the HomeHub the speed has come back again, just like after the power cut. I suppose the question is whether it's the Belkin router or whether the speed will still drop again after a few days.
    I've re-run the BT Speed Tester while connected via the Home Hub and got the following details.
     Download speedachieved during the test was - 5.65 Mbps
     For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 0.6 Mbps-7.15 Mbps.
     Additional Information:
     Your DSL Connection Rate :7.3 Mbps(DOWN-STREAM), 0.45 Mbps(UP-STREAM)
     IP Profile for your line is - 6 Mbps
    My IP profile seems to have dropped by 1Mb compared to earlier but I believe that's due to me reconnecting a few times while setting up the Home Hub.

  • Recent very slow BB connection

    Our BB from BT has been pretty stable since we've had it, about 12-18months, we've had a few issues with our line, but each time the online line checker has picked up a fault, and an engineer has been out to fix it. Noticed a reduction in speed on Thursday, used the line checker but it says there isn't a problem, have tried a new adsl filter, have tried making sure the router is the only piece of equipment on the line, its in the main socket, but it's still no better. Speedtest results are 0.02mbs to 0.50mbs, line stats below, to my laymans eyes, it appears the line is quite noisy?, although the line doesn't sound noisy on the phone.     in order for the forum members to help please can you  run  btspeedtester  (MAC users may have problems). when first test completes then run diagnostic test and post the results .
     from stats posted your line has a lot of errors for such a short time conencted
    are you connected directly via a filter to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Is the master the only phone socket in your home?
    Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal
    Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem

    It could be a coincidence, but I rebooted the machine and (knock on wood) PSE13 seems to be working ok.

    Glad I could help. Thanks for sharing your problem and what device was causing it for you. Sometimes having too many USB devices can cause problems. Your camera might work if only the mouse and keyboard are connected. It is worth a try if you need to get photos from it. I have seen even on my custom built PC occasional "odd" issues that can arise from having a variety of different USB devices connected.

    I have windows 7 professional 64bit OS. whenever i try to open/save as dialog box it appears very slow, then it will say it is not responding then after 10-15sec it will come alive.

    I followed your suggestions above....reset IE ...clean boot. Didn't solve the problem.  (had trouble making that MSCONFIG window bigger !? <wink>)
    Problem still exists.  And to be clear, here is the problem(s) ...I believe they are all interrelated.
    #1.  I end the explorer.exe process and restart it.  Run Explorer and start clicking folders in my FAVORITES.  System hangs for about 10 seconds before it catches up.
    Alternatly, after a explorer.exe restart, if I run explorer and start clicking down through folders from the C: drive, there is no hang.   SUSPECT - some sort of file for favorites needs to be rebuilt?!
    #2. Open MS Word.  Type a few letters.  Select File/Save.  Most icons under Favorites are white.  Trying clicking more than one, but system hangs for ten seconds until icons fill in.
    #3.  WINDOWS button, start typing in the search INTERNET....5-10 seconds before Internet Explorer (and other INT* things show up.!  Usually this is instantaneous.

    - Checked Indexed location is C: drive/ User/ just my data areas....reindexed
    - Tried reboot with Windows Search service disabled....no help.  Turned back on.
    - Tried MS Essentials off.  Tried Firewall off
    - Rebuilt ICONCACHE - was 8mb, now less 450kb
    - Archived OUTLOOK down to a reasonable size (and had to do the manual compress to reduce the file size after)
    - turned off some Windows visual effects.
    - Turned off Dropbox from autostarting....this was before I tried the Clean Boot
    - turned by ON (default)  in Startup - though it has Unknown MFG and no details  :~(   , i found that it likely is needed for my 64 bit machine.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Very Important, how much Free Space is on your Hard Drive first of all? Click on the Macintosh HD on the Desktop, then do a Get Info on it.
    First, Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
    Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?
    How much RAM & free space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.
    In the Memory tab, are there a lot of Pageouts?

    Before I go further with my comment, I would recommend to open a SR with Oracle and have them help you to resolve the problem.
    You said that the archive logs are being applied, however the apply rate is slow? Is this true?
    Since you are applying the archive logs, it looks like your protection mode is set to ASYNC Maximum Performance.
    Can you check if all the logs are being shipped to the standby without any problem?
    There are couple of DG healthcheck scripts available on Metalink.

    Metalink Note 241374.1 Script to Collect Data Guard Primary Site Diagnostic Information
    Can you run those scripts? If you feel comfortable, publish the output of the scripts on this tread, otherwise review them. They may give you some clue on what might be going on.
    Also check v$dataguard_status view.

    order by timestamp; If you are not able to run the scripts due to database hanging state, as you described in your last post, try to determine why the database is hanging.
    In this kind of situations I usually use HANGANALYZE that will generate trace files for all the running processes. It may take a while until you review these files. Especially pay attention to the RFS process.

    SQL>oradebug hanganalyze 266For more information on how to use HANGANALYZE refer to Metalink Notes: 175006.1, 452358.1 and 61552.1
    However, if you haven't used oradebug before or don't feel comfortable using it, you better don't do that and wait on instructions from Oracle.
    Also, as always, check the alert log file and the data guard log file (drc<sid>.log).

    After an update or installation, your MBP may take some time to index its files. Give it some time - but if you don't see any improvement, post here - you'll get an answer!

I found my old laptop was very slow when processing the hundreds of images I usually take on a weekly basis.  I bought a new faster laptop but when I looked for the cd with the software and serial I could not find it in the Xmas clutter.  I downloaded a trial version of lightroom and got it working on my new laptop. Is there a way to access the serial number from my previously installed version and insert it into the trail version to make it work for me?

    While i registered all my cs2 thru 6 versions and my lightroom 2 thru 4 versions and recorded the serials and saved the adobe registration emails.  Since this came as a freebee with the camera i neglected this vital step.  I have the instslled version on my old laptop but want to install it on my new one.  Thanks to Jim Hess I got the serial so all is well in my world and I will register it with ADOBE

    Like the  man says:
    Run Disk Utility > Repair ... (not just repair permissions) while booted from another drive. If you have a stronger utility like Disk Warrior, that would be even better.
    If you find that the ONLY way you can do this is by booting from the DVD, The Hatter recommends you establish an emergency drive or partition on a drive other than the Boot drive and use that in the future. It makes emergency Repair, backup, and cloning much easier.

    Try these basic troubleshooting steps.
    Quit all apps completely and restart the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.
    Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
    Or .... Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
    For Safari ..... Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Data. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
