Recocgnizing Music in iTunes Library

Hi everyone, I have a problem with playing my music in iTunes.
I had a 28G hard drive on my computer and I was running out of memory. I installed a new 200G hard drive to the computer, but still kept the 28G one. The 28G drive is the msater and the 200G is the slave. I wanted to put all my music onto the new drive and store future music downloads there too. I have music from Limewire and I also have purchased songs from iTunes. I copied my music and all the folders from the master hard drive to the new hard drive. Once I delete the files from the master drive and try to play the song, iTunes says, "The song (blank) could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to relocate it?" I click "yes," search and find the song in the new drive, and then click "Open." I've been doing this for about fifty songs and I still have a long way to go. I was thinking that I am probably not doing this correctly. I just want to be able to play my music and have iTunes regognize my songs with them being on the new drive even though they were originally downloaded on the master drive. If anyone can give me tips or advise please post. My E-mail is [email protected]

Did you change the path inside of iTunes to "point" to the new location of the music folder on your 2nd drive?
Go to Preferences, or hit Ctrl + ,
Then go to Advanced.
Then under General, there should be a button "Change", click it and tell iTunes where the new music folder is located at.
Let me know if that works... I did something similar on my machine, but I lost my all my playlists after I moved the location. My library stayed intact, but my playlists are empty now. I have about 100+ playlists, so I didn't want to export and re-import every one of them, but if you have a few playlists you don't want to lose, make sure to click them and then Export the playlists, then when your done moving the music folder or telling iTunes where the new music folder is, go and choose Import and re-import all your playlists to retain the music inside each of them.

  • Updated iPhoto could no longer use the music from iTunes library for slideshow

Anybody checked if you can still use your music from iTunes library for slideshows?
After updating both iPhoto and iTunes to the latest version in Mavericks, all music links in the iPhoto's slideshows became invalid. Tried even to re-establish the music links, but it seems like the iPhoto would not play any music from the iTunes library. Only the sample music from iPhoto is usable. The iTunes works fine by the way.
    Thanks a lot!

I think I found a workaround that seemed to correct the problem. In iTunes, go to the File menu and choose Library. Then select Organize Library. Next choose Reorganize files in the folder "iTunes Media".  Click OK.

  • When I try to sync music from itunes library to my ipod touch, it says it can't sync because the connection to the iPod was lost. Please help!

When I try syncing music from my library to my ipod, I get the message that it lost connection. My ipod is plugged in to the computer though. Does anyone know how to fix this?

How is your iPod configured to sync music? In other words, what options and configurations do you have enabled from under your iPod's Summary and Music tabs in iTunes?
Maybe have a look at this article as well to verify your iPod is set up for syncing music.

  • No music in iTunes library and it wont read the content of my iPod? Help please!

So I recently updated to iTunes 10.7 and when I did, all of the content in the iTunes library was gone! i have tried many different things to get it to work, like restoring to a previous iTunes library, but it appears that all the previous iTunes libraries were also deleted when I updated! If there is no other way to get the music back than finding the original files and putting them into iTunes, I guess that will be ok.
The second problem I am having is that when ever I try to sync my iPod it takes a very long time to load, and then it says that iTunes can't read the content of my iPod and that I should restore to the factory settings, but because there is no music or apps in my iTunes library I dont want to do that, because then I will have no way of getting all of my content back on. And I can't restore to a previous backup because it wont read it as my iPod, it just comes up as an unkown iPod. This is very frustrating and I have tried everything I can think of. Please help!

    Try:
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Try another cable and another USB port
    - Reboot the computer.
    - See if you can find the media by:
    - See if a third-party progtam like one of those discussed here will allow you to get the music off the iPod
    newer copy
    - I think you may end up restoring the iPod.

  • How do I permanently delete music from iTunes library and iPhone?

I had some old music I didn't like anymore so I went to delete it but it still shows up in my iTunes library and my phone. I plug in my phone to my laptop and in iTunes, all of the apparently deleted songs are gray text instead of black and they all have a gray, dotted circle next to it and this is really bothering me because all I see is clutter. Same goes for my phone. When "Show All Music" is turned off, I don't see any of the deleted songs which is what I want but when it's turned on, they come back with the iCloud symbol next to it and I don't like that at all. I want ALL of my songs to be PERMANENTLY DELETED meaning that if "Show All Music" is turned on or off, I don't want to see the music in my phone or in my iTunes library.

    Hi Jessica,
I found an article how you could do that on iTunes: iTunes Store: How to delete songs from iCloud - Apple Support and another blog post on this issue: http://ios.wonderhowto.com/how-to/delete-phantom-icloud-songs-your-iphone-015457 5/
    Give it a try.
    With kind regards,

  • When I downloaded the newest version of iTunes, my previously downloaded music in iTunes library disappeared on my computer?  There was no warning of this happening.  What do I do?

Ok, so I downloaded the newest version of iTunes on my home PC, and the previously downloaded music in my iTunes library disappeared on my computer.  What happened?  I can sync my iPod but I am not sure how long ago I synced it so I may be missing some music downloads.  Why did this happen, and more importantly, why didn't iTunes warn me it could happen and advise me to sync with another device before the download?  I am not very happy about this and it's a huge issue for iTunes if this is happening.  It makes me very wary of iTunes.

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps then you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

  • All of my music in iTunes Library have disappeared

I have seen this issue asked about here and other places online but none of the suggestions have worked or don't pertain. So here is what I had done and what happened: First I had downloaded the latest version of iTunes on a new laptop and all was fine - songs were all there and I listened to some of them no problem, but a few days later the next time I opened it up I could see all of my songs but only for a brief second and as the pop-up window showing the new iTunes video tutorial came up they disappeared and everything is empty - playlists, library, albums...everything.  I closed out and opened it all again but it's still empty.  I signed off and signed back on...same thing.  I then looked in my iTunes folder on my computer and the library.itl is there but it is only 8 KBs - I have a ton more songs than just 8 KBs worth!  And when I opened that library.itl file, my library pulled up and is still empty.  It was all there the other day and I have made no changes to my computer at all since downloading the new version.  I don't have a "previous versions" folder or a back-up.  Most of the songs in my library were not purchased, just added to my library and I have not deleted any of them.  How can I get them back?
(My OS is Windows 7 Professional - if that helps to know).
    Thank you!

Are all your songs etc. still in the usual folder(s) on your computer? Try holding down the Shift key in Windows when opening iTunes. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to an existing one. The default location for your iTunes library is in C:\Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\ (or C:\Username\Music\iTunes\ in Vista). Look in there and see if you have more than one library file (they have the extension .itl) If you have more than one try opening them in turn, you may find your original library is still intact: How to open an alternate iTunes Library file

  • How do I remove music from itunes library but keep them in a separate folder on my mac?

I also wouldn't mind understanding which specific folders the itunes library imports my music from. Does it search my whole computer and automatically add any music files or does it search only a specific folder? Is there a way to tell it which folder to use? Basically I'd like to keep two folders, one that itunes imports and one that is just on my computer and doesn't go to itunes. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You can't.  The reason is because the actual photos are all in the camera roll.  The albums only contain links to these photos, not duplicate photos.  (Albums work like music playlists.  Music playlists also don't contain duplicate songs either; they only contain links to the songs in your music library.)
