Recommended Server Specifications for GIS system

Hi,
Is there any reason specific to GIS systems why a Dual quad-core CPU is preferable to a Single quad-core CPU?
Thanks, Ila

Hi,
If the vendor is Oracle, there is a middleware (Mapviewer) component to Spatial. I'm unable to find any documentation on OTN on whether Spatial/Mapviewer functionality specifically requires a dual cpu.
Do you know of any specific reasons?
Thanks, Ila

  • Recommended server specifications for IOP 11.1.2.0 server?

In the iop_11120000_readme.pdf it references the following document:
"Information about system requirements for EPM System products is now available in a spreadsheet format in the Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Certification Matrix. System requirements are no longer part of the Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Installation Start Here."
However, the EPM System document references this page:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/files/fusion_certification.html
which contains an xls file for "oracle_hyperion_epm_system_certification_release_11.1.2.0.xls", which does not specifically mention IOP.
Can someone please direct me to suggested specifications for a dedicated IOP server running 11.1.2.0?
    Thank you.

In our install guide we document the server and client configurations that are supported. The recommended spec would depend on the model and there are no specific sizing guidelines as of now. We do have some guidelines for calculating the block cache size and that is for computing memory size.

  • Content Server config for production system - oac0

    Hi all
We are setting up content server for our ERP 2005 system, and I am wondering what best practice is for our scenario.
We have one content server (CST) for development and test systems on host A, and one content server (CSP) for production system on host B. The Archive link configuration in dev and test points to CST. When this is transported to production, it will point to the wrong content server and I will have to reconfigure the archivelink in production to point to the correct content server (CSP).
What is the best way to set up the production system to point to the content server CSP on host B? Should I define a new content repository in t-code oac0 in dev, and transport this to production? Should I define the new repository directly in production system??
    Please advise.
    Best Regards,
    Thomas

    Hello,
I had the same problem a few years ago with R/3 4.7.
I don't think there is a perfect solution but here is what I did :
In the DEV system, in OAC0, I created 2 content repositories, one for the test sytem and one for the production. I transported these 2 content repositories in the production system.
In the DEV system, in OAC3, I created temporary links from my business objects to my production content repository. I released the request order.
Then I deleted these links which are wrong in the DEV system. I transported the order in the R/3 production system where these links are right.
In the DEV system, in OAC3, I then created  the links from my business objects to  my TEST content repository. I released the second request order.
So my config is now OK in my test and my production system.
When we refresh the DEV system by a database copy from the production system. We just have to reimport the test request order to switch the links to be OK on the DEV system. We don't have to recreate the test content repository as it was defined als oi nthe production system.
I am not sure that this is clear but this works for us with no problems since 2002.
    I hope this helps.

  • Recommended Server requirement for MS SQL Server

    Hi Guys,
Good day. Just have a questions for the tenured Server and DBA administrators.
I'm currently assigned to setup a new Server(HP Gen9) and used MS SQL 2012.
Just want to ask if what is your recommended RAM for Multiple Database in 1 SQL instance? 1 Database is 20 GB in file size, 4 others are 5 GB.
Also, is it okay that my design is only 1 SQL instance, than multiple SQL instance for each database
    Thanks,
    Trex

Depends on licensing and application requirement. If application demand segregation we can go-ahead with multiple instances.
"When multiple instances of the same SQL Server edition and language are installed on the same computer, a single copy of the license terms will apply to all instances of that edition and language"
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143522.aspx
Is this a migration? How does the current configuration looks like? Depending on the total memory on the server allocate memory to the database instance by setting min and max memory configuration.
You may need to leave some memory for the OS and hope this is Sql Server specific server and no other application reside on it.
    Thanks,

  • SQL server licencing for PABX system

Hi All. I'm looking for some guidance on how to correctly licence a SQL server for use as part of a PABX system. The PABX system supports 14 end users with a similar number of devices. As such, can I licence this server on a CAL basis for either 14 users
or 14-odd devices or do I need to licence per core?
Basically, are the devices in this instance the 14 configured phones or do I need to count every person who phones in as a device or user as well?

Since the question is a license issue, you can call 1-800-426-9400, Monday through Friday, 6:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. (Pacific Time) to speak directly to a Microsoft licensing specialist, and you can get more detail information from there. You can also visit

  • Server specifications for 1000 concurently connected users.

    Dear all,
we want to prepare a server having windows server 2003 to install oracle database 10g. the same server will act as an application server as well.
    we want to know how much size of the following we need if we have 1000 concurrently connected users;
    1.RAM
    2.Processor
    Thank you.

the same server will act as an application server as well.
BAD Idea. Really very bad. IO patterns on an application server are completely different from a database server.
    Disk will be a bottleneck.
And server will be Single Point of Failure,
And why Win2003 and not Win2008?

  • Best Application Server Specificatin for Application Environments

    Hi Guys,
I am juz more than curious and excited to know about using an Application Server which would be best suited for development environ and other phases (Testing and Production). Anyone plz do lemme know how do I go about in giving app server specification for a web application's (as heavy as 1 lac hits / users) load management and performance optimization.
Hope I am clear with my query.....Please do help me out in answering my query...
    Thanks in Advance

    Hi,
Since Sun App Server is a Sun Product it would be better if you go for it because of comaptibility. However I have worked with Tomcat also and didn't face any problem. Since you have told you are a newbie it would be better if you start on Tomcat a handling tomcat is much easier as compared to Sun App Server.

  • Server 2012 R2 - The system failed to register host (A or AAAA) resource records (RRs) for network adapter

We seem to be having an issue recently after introducing new Windows Server 2012 R2 servers where they fail to register DNS correctly. The Windows Firewall is off and the servers are on the same VLAN with no firewalls between them.
When I do an ipconfig /registerdns or wait 24 hours for the system to try we get the following error:
The system failed to register host (A or AAAA) resource records (RRs) for network adapter
    with settings:
               Adapter Name : {4A0ECF05-193F-4BEA-AA46-BEC593BA752B}
               Host Name : SRV-DATA
               Primary Domain Suffix : internal.local
               DNS server list :
    192.168.0.50, 192.168.0.42
Sent update to server : <?>
               IP Address(es) :
                 192.168.0.99
The reason the system could not register these RRs was because the DNS server contacted refused the update request. The reasons for this might be (a) you are not allowed to update the specified DNS domain name, or (b) because the DNS server authoritative
for this name does not support the DNS dynamic update protocol.
To register the DNS host (A or AAAA) resource records using the specific DNS domain name and IP addresses for this adapter, contact your DNS server or network systems administrator.
On our DNS server we have set for the internal.local zone Secure Updates only so that looks good because it is Active Directory that should be handling this authentication to update the record I assume. Just to mention that when also doing an ipconfig /regsiterdns
the update fails within a few seconds.
    Source: DNS Clients Events
    Event ID: 8018
    User: NETWORK SERVICE
This issue is only affecting Windows Server 2012 R2 clients and testing with Windows Server 2008 R2 clients works no issues. So is this a mis-configuration or a bug with Windows 2012 R2? I have checked all DNS settings on client / server which all look good
to me so reaching out now to see if anyone has any ideas?
    Environment:
    - Windows Server 2012 R2 Domain Controllers (Forest/Domain Levels 2012 R2)

The zone is configured as "Secure Only"
The PDC is the SOA for the zone
I dont have a packet capture from the DC, only the client.

  • What is posted availability specification for Windows server 2012? 2012R2?

I am trying to put together a high availability solution and I want to know what the availability 'claim' of the individual components would be. What is the availability specification for Windows server 2012 and Windows Server 2012R2?(for example 99.9%
availability for the O/S itself). This would be in a non clustered or Load Balanced state. Just a single server running the O/S.

    Hi,
SLA requirements determine how components such as storage, clustering, and backup and recovery factor into your organization. The term high availability is meaningless until you define how to measure it. IT shops measure high availability as the percentage of
time that systems are available, but the provider and consumer of high-availability services must agree on what constitutes availability and how the time is measured.

  • Best Practices for Packaging and Deploying Server-Specific Configurations

We have some server-specific properties that vary for each server. We'd
like to have these properties collected together in their own properties
file (either .properties or .xml is fine).
What is the best-practices way to package and deploy an application (as an
ear file), where each server needs some specific properties?
We'd kind of like to have the server-specific properties file be stored
external to the ear on the server itself, so that the production folks can
configure each server's properties at the server. But it appears that an
application can't access a file external to the ear, or at least we can't
figure out the magic to do it. If there is a way to do this, please let me
    know how.
Or do we have to build a unique ear for each server? This is possible, of
course, but we'd prefer to build one deployment package (ear), and then
ship that off to each server that is already configured for its specific
environment. We have some audit requirements where we need to ensure that
an ear that has been tested by QA is the very same ear that has been
deployed, but if we have to build one for each server, this is not
    possible.
Any help or pointers would be most appreciated. If this is an old issue,
my apologies, would you please point me to any previous material to read?
I didn't see anything after searching through this group's archives.

The one draw back to this is you have to go all the way back to ant and the
build system to make changes. You really want these env variables to be
    late binding.

    Paul,
I have a similar situation in our project and I don't create ear filesspecific
to the environment. I do the following:
    1) Create .properties file for every environment with the same attributename
but different values in it. For example, I have phoneix.properties.NT,phoenix.properties.DEV,
    phoenix.properties.QA, phoenix.properties.PROD.
    2) Use Ant to compile, package and deploy the ear file
I have a .bat file in NT and .sh for Solaris that in turn calls theant.bat or
ant.sh respectively. For the wrapper batch file or shell script, you canpass
the name of the environment. The wrapper batch file will copy theappropriate
properties file to "phonenix.properties". In the ant build.xml, I alwaysrefer
to phonenix.properties which is available all the time depending on theenvironment.

It works great and I can't think of any other flexible way. Hope thathelps.
