Recommended upgrade method from ECC5 to ECC6 for lowest production downtime

Hello everybody,
I've been looking through multiple documents concerning a system upgrade and I am still unable to figure out the recommended method for upgrading a system with minimum downtime.
My scenario requires that tests as rigid as possible will be performed and that development will be halted for the shortest time possible , therefore development must be continued after the initial upgrade.
We are currently debating the required way to do this - what should be done with the change requests that currently reside in the DEV system, in which steps the incomptabilities are fixed and so on.
I've decided that I'll share my thoughts with you and maybe you guros will be able to point out mistakes in the methodology.
1. ECC 5 Production System is copied aside, lets call this system EPC
2. Change requests from DEV ECC5 are copied to this EPC System.
3. EPC  system is upgraded to ECC6.
4. Bugs and incomptabilities such as unicode incomptabilities are fixed and merged in a change request
This ends the preperation step and in my opinion is sort of a preperation step.
During the whole preparation step, which to my estimate could take at least one month, development in the original system must be continued, so this is my main trouble.
What is the recommended procedure from here?
I assume that another production must be done on the day of the actual upgrade start, then the fixes from the previous preperation system are copied to this actual ECC6 Production, but I am rather lost as far as it goes to having an ECC6 Dev with most current change requests.
I would appreciate any hints and help,
thanks in advance,
Eli.

Ok, your idea of having a production copy for development and tests is a good upgrade strategy, we have done this twice due high quantity of developments and configuragion changes but I don´t see why you wrote " copy change requests from DEV to EPC " your whole configuration, programs, etc, are already in EPC once you copy the system.
In this scenario every change made in DEV ECC 5.0 must be also replicated and tested in EPC 6.0 because you cannot use the change requests from 5.0 in 6.0 once in productive upgrade, let me list the global steps:
1.- Homogeneous system copy from PRD to EPC, you will get a working test platform
2.- Upgrade EPC to 6.0
3.- Developers and functionals will do all respective changes and generate chage requests.
Once EPC is ready
4.- Upgrade DEV system to 6.0 transport change requests created in EPC to upgraded DEV, from this point you should only do emergency changes using Q&A system.
5.- Upgrade Q&A system, transport change requests from DEV, no changes are permited from now until PRD is upgraded.
6.- Do all tests very carefully
7.- Upgrade PRD transport change requests
Then you are ready. the downtime can be tune trough EPC, DEV and Q&A systems so you can determine what you shoud do to assure the shortest method.
I recomend you to use the downtime minimized upgrade method and from every upgrade take a deep look at the upgrade report generated after the whole process is completed.

    Hello Kumar9,
if I understoon correctly your last reply, you have doubts if PSAPPRD640 should exist at all, correct?
    Please do the following:
    1) Check any object assigned to this tablespace PSAPPRD640
    2) If any object occupied to PSAPPRD640 then reorganise to new tablespace
If any object not occupied to PSAPPRD640 then check the table entry

  • Technical upgarde from ECC5 to ECC6 EHP4

    Dear All,
We are having technical upgarde from ECC5 to ECC6 EHP4. I have have some queries as client what need to be check after upgarde. When golive cahke is done what are check list apar from system is up and running.
    Please sugegst
    Regards,
    Kumar

SAP offers a pre-golive check before actual go-live by logging into your system and doing some important checks as per the requirement for technical or functional go-live check...
So, you want SAP to do pre-golive check, just open up the connection between SAP and your sap system, at the same time, a connection from Solman to SAP too..maintaining the connection details in secure area
You have to open a message in component XX-SER-TCC to find out if your installation is scheduled for a Go-Live check which is conducted by SAP and itu2019s partners.
Go-Live Functional Upgrade Analysis u2013 ideally 6 months before Golive u2013 basically checks your hardware requirement , will it be able to accommodate the increase in the functionalities caused by the Go-Live, also some parameter recommendations to fine-tune your system.
Go-Live Functional Upgrade Verification u2013 This is normally 2 months after the Go-live which is to see eu2019thing is fine after the upgrade.
Then you have normal Earlywatch session , each installation is entitled for 2 free earlywatch session in a year, in this performance tuning is done for your system, hardware, memory, I/0 bottlenecks are identified.
Reports of all these sessions carried out by SAP is then sent to you in form a MS-Word document and you can follow the guidelines mentioned and call up SAP or mail the person who has done the session for you for any clarifications.
Usually once a session is scheduled.
SAP will contact you to open the connections for them, so that they can prepare the system before the actual session takes place , in which they see , if SDCC version is good enough so that they can download the data from your system into their internal system on which they carry out the analysis

  • Upgrading PowerMac G4 to the MAX for video production?????

I need to know if I can just upgrade my Power Mac G4 (AGP graphics) to the max for video production? I'll be using 4 main programs.
    1. Final Cut Studio 2
    2. After Affects
    3. Protools
    4. Photoshop CS 3
Final Cut recommends this for all applications:
    * 2GB of RAM when working with compressed HD and uncompressed SD sources
    * 4GB of RAM when working with uncompressed HD sources
    Here are my computer stats:
    Machine Model: PowerMac3,1
    CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (2.9)
    Number Of CPUs: 1
    CPU Speed: 450 MHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 1 MB
    Memory: 768 MB
    Bus Speed: 100 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 3.2.2f1
Can anyone please help? This is my first mac.

    Hey DJ,
I'm thinking that, for those specific needs, dollars are better thrown at a newer model than upgrades for your existing one. Here's why:
    1) You do not have native support for large hard drives, something that's nice for video work. You'd have to spend money on a PCI adaptor card to add that support. Figure US$40-100.
    2) Your video card is likely not up to the task unless it's already been upgraded. Another $70-250 depending on how good a scrounger you are.
    3) You need a minimum 1.25Ghz G4 processor and, if you get the upgrade, who's to say if the next version of FC will still support a G4? 1.2G processor upgrades start at over $200 and faster ones are up to $700 (OWC pricing for new gear).
    4) You can't stick more than 2G RAM in your computer.
And, after all the upgrades, you still have the basic bus speed limitation inherent in all G4s.
Bottom line is that you can quickly invest enough to buy a faster used Mac. Examples of used G5 prices (usually at the top of the price scale) are here. Even an entry level G5 should be much faster than a fully upgraded G4.
Don't get me wrong--I'm an upgrader and love to do it regardless of cost. In this case, I see the potential for ending up with an upgraded computer that struggles at its intended task and could be obsoleted by the next upgrade of the software.

  • CU&UC from ECC5 to ECC6 Ehp4

    Hi,
We are planning to run a CU&UC from a NUC ECC5.00 system to UC ECC6 Ehp4/NW 7.01 and need to check if this is supported.
I have trawled through OSS/SDN etc and cannot see anything to say that it is not, but an OSS message placed regarding the supportability said that this is not possible as "ECC6 EHP4 SR1 Media is available as UNICODE ONLY, so you
will not be able to perform 'normal' CU&UC using 'EHP4 ready"
There is a NUC 7.01 kernel available, so I am not sure what SAP mean by this??
    Regards,
    Mark

    Hi 'Basis Team',
The original question was "We are planning to run a CU&UC from a NUC ECC5.00 system to UC ECC6 Ehp4/NW 7.01 and need to check if this is supported." is pretty clear I think.
What muddied the water is a reply from SAP to an OSS message placed asking the above question where they say that this is not possible as there are no NUC ABAP loads delivered after ECC6 SR3.
This reply goes against all SAP doco that we have read, and as you say, you have done the same CU&UC that we are tring to achieve.
BTW, which upgrade kit did you use? The Ecc6 Ehp4 Ready SRx one??
    Cheers,
    Mark

  • IDOC Problem From 46C To ECC6 For ORDERS05

    Hello
I am trying to generate 46C version ORDERS05 basic type from ECC6 700 version.
Within WE20(Partner Profiles) I have set the Seg. release in IDOC type to 46C to generate the old 46C segment. When I run my test again the IDOC that was generated is still version 700.
    Thanks for the help.
    Joe

    Gentlemen:
    The problem around this statement:
    ASSIGN (w_field) TO <fs_field>
    is explained as follows:
    1. In ABAP language, there are two ways for assigning a new value to a field-symbol.
    - Sentence: ASSIGN (values) TO <my_field_symbol>.
In this case, the <my_field_symbol> receives from (w_field) the data type and value content of this variable. So, we keep that a FSymbol is assigned and, at the same time, receives an initial value.
    - Sentence: <my_field_symbol> = '/' or <my_field_symbol> = my_var.
In this way, we only pass the content of the variable next to = sign. But before this, the field-symbol must had been assigned (using ASSIGN statement), in another case, the compiler raises an exception.
Following the example of Federico... I think he tried to assign a field like this (please, supose the program imports the structure of a database table with a standard function, into a internal table which is looped by the work area w_field ):
    - If w_field contains 'BKPF-WERKS', so sentence ASSIGN will affect the field symbol, passing to this the data type and current content of table field BKPF-WERKS.
    - If w_field contains 'BKPF-.INCLUDE': *the column .INCLUDE obviously is not associated with a data type... so our statement ASSIGN... TO... never pass any data type or value to our field-symbol. So that, this field is never initialized properly, and when inmmediately you try to execute something like this: <my_field_symbol> = '/', the game (program) is over.. XD
I hope this post was helpful for anyone...
    Best Regards!!

  • Transporting BAPI from ECC5 to ECC6 - FM definition isn't avail at target

    Hi
    I have a BAPI developed in ECC5 System - ZBAPI_TEST, under a function group - ZFG_TEST within a package - ZPKG_TEST.
All these objects are assigned to the same TR number.
I have released, generated Co/Data Files and moved these TR (Co/Data Files)  to ECC 6 System.
The associated structures are available in ECC6 System - where the Function Module name is present - BUT NO SOURCE CODE!!!
Is there any special rules we need to follow while transporting a BAPI from one system to other?
    Thx
    Rich

Please check if the the two includes also have activated and moved or not.
if yes try a re transport.

  • Configuration is not replicated from CRM to ECC for configurable product

    Hi,
We have some materials in the system for which the configuration is not replicated from CRM to ECC.
We create a quotation in CRM and configure it. In CRM,  the configuration is complete and components are properly exploded but when we check the same quotation in ECC, configuration is incomplete with respect to some characteristics and product references.
    Please find below finding
    1. If the same material is created in another plant/company code, the configuration is replicated properly.
    2. We have also checked that the BOM is completely maintained for plants for which configuration is replicated. But we dont think so it could be an issue since if we create the quotation in ECC instead of creating in CRM, for the plant (for which the configuration is not replicated from CRM to ECC),  it is properly exploded and complete.
    3. variant prices are replicated properly even though components are not replicated.
We need to know if we can explode the BOM in the configuration even though complete BOM for the particular plant is not maintained. If its not possible to explode, why it is possible for us to explode the BOM in the configuration in quotation.
    Please  advise.
    Thx.

the configuration (variant configuration and not customization) that is done in CRM contract is not copied to ECC contract. Is it because that item category in CRM is activated for doing the BOM configuration and the same in ECC is not activated for doing the BOM configuration?
My question is that if item category in ECC is not activated for BOM configuration then is it like that the BOM configuration in CRM will not be copied to ECC?

  • Upgrade Planning from 11.1.2.0 to 11.1.2.1 on new environment

    Hi guys,
We recently got a requirement that we need to install a completely new environment for Hyperion Planning 11.1.2.1. The old system is with 11.1.2.0 on a separate network.
The installation and configuration document says 11.1.2.1 is a maintenance release. I also couldn't find the 11.1.2.0 -> 11.1.2.1 upgrade path. Does this mean we have to install 11.1.2.0 in the new environment then performance "in place upgrade" to 11.1.2.1?
What is the recommended upgrade method from 11.1.2.0 to 11.1.2.1 if the deploy to a new environment?
    Thanks,
    Fred.

    Thanks for your reply John!
The 11.1.2.1 version is required to be installed on a separate network. If we follow the official route that means to install 11.1.2.0 -> Migrate -> apply maintenance release to upgrade to 11.1.2.1. This would be the last option we want to go with... The 11.1.2.0 installation files are not available from Oracle any more.
I still have a few questions about the other options.
Option 2: Clean install of 11.1.2.1 -> Create empty planning apps -> Clone planning apps relational database
Question: After all the steps above, do I need to perform "upgrade" for each app inside of planning?
Option 3: Clean install of 11.1.2.1 -> Create empty planning apps -> Use LCM to migrate the content
Question: Will LCM work between 11.1.2.0 and 11.1.2.1? I personally had some bad experience with LCM when the target and source system is not 100% identical.

  • PC00_M14_CDTA ECC5 to ECC6 Upgrade Missing Selection Field

    Hi All,
Found out Selection Field of (Pay date) during Upgrade from ECC5 to ECC6 on TCODE : PC00_M14_CDTA.
More information you can refer to below print screen.
    Thank in advance for advice.
    Trevor Wong.

This has been replaced by "Requested Execution Date". Here is the standard hlpe for this:
Requested Execution Date on Which the Payment Is to Be Made
    Use
In this field, you can enter a date on which the bank is to execute a payment. The date is transferred together with the payment information to Financial Accounting (FI), where the payment is executed.
You can use the date to override the default setting or the date determined by implementing the Business Add-In (BAdI) Change of Requested Execution Date for the Payments (HRDME_B_ REGUH_DUE_DATE).
In many countries, the system date is used as the default value for the execution date. In some countries, the payment date of the payroll period is used.
    Dependencies
The following sequence applies to determining the execution date:
    1. The defined default value is used as the execution date.
    2. If the BAdI HRDME_B_ REGUH_DUE_DATE is implemented, the execution date is determined using this BAdI.
    3. If a date is entered on the selection screen of the preliminary program, this overrides the default value or the value determined by the BAdI.

  • Recommended Upgrade path for Apex 3.1.1

    Hi Everyone,
just wondering what the recommended upgrade path from Apex 3.1 to 3.1.1 is. Is it just installing the Patch or is there an upgrade option for the full-3.1.1-version?
The reason i'm asking is not everyone has access to metalink and can therefor not download the patch from there but the full version from OTN
    thanks,
    Peter

    Peter,
As with our previous patch sets, we release a full, new install on OTN and only release the patch via MetaLink (it is one of the benefits for customers with database support). You can use the full release to upgrade from 3.0 (or before) to 3.1.1 but to get from 3.1 to 3.1.1 you need either the patch or you need to do a new install.

  • Best Mac for music production

So i decided to get a Mac finally,

i will use it only for DJ'ing (using Traktor / Abelton) and producing electronic music (using Cubase)
i suppose i need at least 8GB for this, and a SSD flash drive,

    what do you think?
and would you recommend upgrading immediately to 16BG ?

It is always recommended that you max out your RAM if you can afford it.  Purchasing RAM from Apple is expensive.  It's best to purchase from a 3rd party vendor that has lifetime warranties on their RAM.
As for your other concerns, go to your local AS and play around w/the Macs you are interested in.  Bug the sales staff w/all of your questions & concerns.  They will be more than happy to assist you.

  • ERP 6.0 EHP 4 upgrade- How long to choose to wait before entering downtime?

Wondering if anyone has relevant downtime minimized experiences to share on how long an ERP 6.0 EHP4 production system upgrade can/should wait to confirm phase DOWNCONF_TRANS (at end of the upgrade Preprocessing roadmap) before choosing to enter actual downtime?
We are on our final production system upgrading a simple ERP 2004 only landscape to ERP 6.0 EHP 4 (NW 7.01) running on the IBM i 6.1 platform and could be ready to wait at DOWNCONF_TRANS for actual downtime to start for up to two weeks to meet non-technical business needs.  As the IBM i platform doesn't support Incremental Table Conversion (ICNV) it doesn't seem any harm to get this preparation work done early and wait until the optimal business downtime opportunity to enter downtime...
Anyone have actual experience (or a SAP recommendation) on a "well resourced, moderate load" IBM i production system waiting a week or more before starting downtime as above?
Thanks in advance for relevant responses :>

    Markus and Volker,
Thank you and points awarded to you both- your prompt and relevant expert responses are very much appreciated!
I thought I'd follow up on the key point Markus made for other forum readers with the same question-
"You have to take into account that once you entered the copy phase (where the shadow system is built) no more transports may run into production (the TMS will be locked). That means that you'd have a full week without the possibility to do changes to the system."
The Upgrade Guide for SAP ERP 6.0 EHP4 SR1 ABAP specifically calls out "You may not perform any more transports into or out of the SAP system" after confirming Preprocessing Roadmap phase LOCK_PRE (ABAP Workbench Locking) or at the latest phase REPACHK2.  As Markus points out once you confirm either Preprocessing phase above you will NOT be able to import production support transports so determine your business support needs timing carefully before confirming these key phases.
Volker's timeline comment to have at least a few days to resolve any upgrade uptime issues makes sense too- ultimately it is up to the Basis team to work with the business team to find the best compromise balance of "no transports while waiting for downtime" vs "having time to fix any upgrade process issues" when you have a firm production downtime date to meet.
Thanks again to you both for your expert insightful help :>
