Reconnecting question...

I move some files on my HD, and now some master images are not found.
How can I reconnect automatically those images ?
thanks
leonel

I know this question has been answered, but thought I'd mentioned my situation. I had one external drive (mirrored set) that I was starting to outgrow and now have moved that drive's contents to a Drobo. I'll be selling the first drive soon.
Anyway, My storage scheme has folders with pictures for more than 4 years, and not all of the photos have been imported into Aperture. If I were to relocate the pictures from Aperture, the new drive would definitely have the pictures from my Aperture library, but then I'd have to sort through and hope I copied over (in Finder) all of the other pictures. Even then, I don't think that all of my pictures will ever be in the Aperture library.
Therefore what I ended up doing for the dozen or so projects was "File > Manage Referenced Files" and find the new location. This would have been a real pain if I would have had a lot more projects.
Yes, I am still working on my workflow and the way I use Aperture, but I think that I'm something is coming together.

  • Reconnect question? Can anyone answer this?

    Can anyone answer a this question about using Reconnect:
    I have over 400 pictures that didn't restore out of a 202GB Full Backup. The catalog contains over 5 years of pictures. The Full Backup file is on K: external drive. If I use the reconnect and it reconnects those pictures to that K: external backup file, then do I always have to keep that external drive plugged in while I use that catalog that reconnected those pictures to the external drive?
    If the answer is yes, then is it possible to make a copy of that Full Backup and put it on the C: drive so I can disconnect that external drive and keep it in a safe place? I have plenty of room on the C: drive since I upgraded to a 2TB main drive.
    If it is possible to make a copy of that Full Backup and move it to the C: drive can you please tell me the proper procedure. Thank you!

    Why are you asking this in a user-to-user iPhone forum? The ONLY source for a definitive answer about the brand new, not yet implemented AT&T data plans is AT&T. You need to contact them. Any "answer" you get here is purely guesswork.

  • Final Cut File Migration/Offline Reconnections Question

    Howdy!
    I have a 2 hour film with over a thousand associated files I'm editing. Because he's concerned about some erratic behavior the drive has been exhibiting lately, the director wants me to move all the files to a new terabyte drive.
    Here's my question: First, is there an easier way than manually looking for every single file and then copying it over? Is there something within Final Cut that will allow me to tell it, "Copy all necessary files to 'x'?"
    Second: I copied a large portion of the files over to a new drive already in one attempt, and thereafter tried to open the original Final Cut project file again. When I opened it, the files were, of course, offline. When I went to reconnect them, it wouldn't let me tell it to just search the new drive for those files. When I click on "search" it just gives me the "I'm not gonna do that" sound. So is it impossible to have it autosearch the new drive for the offline media? Or will I have to manually reconnect everything now that it's been moved?

    Media Manager. It's available from FCP's File menu bar item. MM will consolidate your entire project and associated media into a single folder to a locvation of your choosing.
    I find it to be pretty much self explanatory but it is covered in detail in the manual -just in case.

  • Reconnect question

    i will try to be brief and succint. ...TRY..
    long project...many many files...stored everything on a usb...project file, etc...moved it all back to the firewire today as i have to re-edit...made a folder on the firewire...put it all in there, thinking i could just point to that folder when i open the project file and it says ''everything is offline''
    nope.
    so question is: i KNOW where everything is, and i KNOW why FCE thinks everything is offline, but HOW do I reconnect without going thru each and every file and reconnecting one by one?? There HAS to be a way. Right? Please?
    thanks!! Help!!

    Just figured it out. Disconnect the old media. Launch FCE. If the project was open when FCE last quit, it will open again. It'll complain the media is offline. Click the 'locate' button. Navigate to the folder containing your clips. Uncheck the 'Named file only' checkbox. With the folder containing your clips selected (not the first clip FCE is looking for or any other file - just the folder) click 'Choose.' FCE finds all the files at once without having to reconnect them all individually. Is that helpful? Or did I just find a long winded way of instructing an elderly female family member in the proper method for the toothless mastication of boiled fowl ova?

  • Client Socket Reconnect Question

    I have a client that is connecting a socket to a piece of hardware (Computer Controlled Telescope). No guarantee that the hardware is powered up when the app starts and the hardware might power down and back up at any time.
    The apps main thread creates a socket to the device. A child thread gets the sockets OutputStream to send commands to the device. Another child thread gets the sockets InputStream to receive status from the device.
    Problem: How do I recognize that the device has died? What do I have to do to the socket to reconnect it?

    I only pass the InputStream and OutputStream to my child threads. The Socket stays snug and secure in my main thread.
    Also, I don't want to hide the fact the socket has gone away, just the opposite , I want to know that the socket has died (Socket.isConnected(), I guess), recreate it to the same IP address, and re-distribute the In/Out Streams to the child threads.
    I guess my questions are: 1) How can I tell that the thread has died? and 2) How do I recreate the socket?

  • FCPX Reconnect Question

    I am trying to firgure how to reconnect media in FCPX in a somewhat complex method.  I have several TB worth of material that I cannot fit onto my internal raid all at once, nor can I effectively edit in a multicam format with good playback, so I created Prores 422 Proxy files that are all stored on the internal raid.  As far as playback goes, it's very good and I've already had 20+ clips going at a time without major issue.  But before I get too involved in editing this in FCPX I need to know if it is possible, once the edits are complete, to disconnect the media from the proxy files, and reconnect the media the the full ProRes 422 versions on external hard drives.  If I could fit all of the media and the proxies fcpx makes onto one drive and toggle back and forth I would, but it doesn't seem to be an option at this point.  So I need multiple drives.
    Can it be done, and if so, how?  I know FCPX creates reference files in the events folder on my raid, would these be involved in the changeout?

    Have you tried the File>Relink command? A better workflow would be to ingest by reference- i.e. do not copy media as you import it. Then switch to proxy mode and make proxies of all of your original footage. Move these to the internal raid- they should automatically relink. Then you can safely remove the external drive with the HQ copies and edit in proxy mode. When you're done, remount the HQ footage, switch the preference back to high quality mode and everything should automatically switch back and relink. What you *don't* want to do is create proxy level footage outside of FCPX as it will not be as easy to relink an edit to hq that way.

  • RMI How can a Client reconnect to a server after connection(any)-error

    I have the following problem:
    My RMI-Server runs for ever. In a batch-queue I have a procedure which looks periodly wether rmiregistry
    and RMI-Server exists. On error both processes are killed and restarted.
    My client as a simple example is displaying the server time. If any communication-problem with the
    server exists, I need an automatic reconnect to the server. I accept that into the time distanz of the
    error the display is frozen. Its unacceptable to restart the client !!.
    The following example demonstates my test-example:
    Server:
    1. Start
    2. waits for connecting (factory)
    3. answer time-requests
    Client:
    1. Start
    2. create a time class initially 1.jan.1970 00:00:00
    3. Start a timer displaying the time class every second
    4. start a timer connecting/reconnecting to the server and ask the servers actual time every second
    PS. Is the server to stubil programmed, so that a hang can exists?
    It would be nice, if anybody could answer me !!

    Hello willy51,
    Thank you for answering.
    I think, your comment of the design is true - its a problem when starting up in a new enviroment and
    you have nobody who shows you the right direction at the beginning. Talking personally together only
    10 minutes is better than writing a noval.
    I thing the following model of a client works better:
    concept:
    - visualize a personal time class continously evgery second
    - if there is a connection to a server set the time-class with the server time
    - if you loss connection, try to reconnect
    question:
    in which situation hangs connectToServer() ?
    (whithout the simple errors : no rmiregistry, no rmi-server)
    public class EchoClient
    private String hostname;
    public static void main(String args[]) throws Exception
    // my internal TIME-Class
    Etim acttim = new Etim();
    // Create and install the security manager
    System.setSecurityManager(new RMISecurityManager());
    // remote call
    Echo echoRef1 = null;
    String url = new String("rmi://"+ servername:port +"/EchoFactory");
    // displaying continous the time, technic = swing.timer

    // Connect to server
    connectToServer(url, echoRef1, trans);
    // wait for ever, if connection failed, try every 5 seconds a reconnect to server
    while(true)
    // test, if connection failed. The connections fails if the Object EchoClientTransfer
    // get a error, when it asks the server for the time ( remote call )
    if(trans.getStatus() == false ) // test, if connection failed
    connectToServer(url, echoRef1, trans);
    // try it again after 5 seconds
    Thread.sleep(5000);
    private static void connectToServer(String url, Echo echoRef1, EchoClientTransfer trans)
    System.out.println("Retry connection");
    // Connect to server
    while( true )

    //get the remote factory object from the registry
    EchoFactory remoteFactory = (EchoFactory)Naming.lookup(url);
    //get references to new EchoImpl instances
    echoRef1 = remoteFactory.getEcho("User Meyer");
    // reactivate Datatransfer because I have now a new connection to the server
    trans.reactivateAfterConnectionError(echoRef1);

  • Moving Entire Referenced Library....Questions on reconnecting media.....

    I am moving and consolidating my entire library of images which is on about 4 HDs to one (or 2) internal HDs in my Mac Pro. I did my initial copy of my picture data, and now I need to reconnect the projects to the Master images. Do I need to do this one project at a time? I have HUNDREDS of projects. Is there any way I can do this faster?

    Yes,
    Go to your all photos view and select all of your photos
    Then
    Go to file->manage referenced files.
    If you need to do a smaller subset just select a subset using whatever criteria you wish in the browser view of all photos. Once you are in the manage referenced files window it should be trivial to reconnect as long as your folder structure is the same. Check it out and let me know if you have questions.

  • Reconnecting images (that have become placeholders with question marks)?

    Images in document have been replaced by placeholders with question mark. When I check project file 'Show Package Contents' i see that the missing photos are still there.
    Is there a way to re-link or re-connect the photos to their places in the document? Can't find anything in the manual. This is something that happens in many other apps. that I use, like Final Cut, but there is always an easy method of 'reconnection'.

  • Question Reconnection to Totally Unlimited.

    Hi folks.
    Yesterday I called BT to upgrade/reconnect my broadband as I'm 9 nine months into contract on Unlimited broadband BT infinity 2 and wanted to upgrade to the "totally Unlimited infinity 2". First the sales advisor (who was helpful) informed me that the new infinity 2 option had downloads peaked at 40mb even though my original speed was 55mb which I was getting, Is that true, but then they told me I could keep my existing speed and just be transferred onto "totally Unlimited".
    I agreed to this and then proceeded with the new order. My problem is when I goto My BT account the new order has been processed and my calls and TV package has been upgraded but broadband option states BT Unlimited instead of Totally Unlimited is this correct?

  • Strange intermittent internet disconnect-reconnect... and another question.

    This has happened twice now and is fixed with a restart, but I'd like to know if I have faulty hardware. What happens is that I'll open my Macbook from sleeping and the internet will disconnect for 2 seconds, reconnect for 2 seconds, disconnect for 2 seconds, reconnect, repeat. This will continue UNTIL I restart the computer.
    I know it's not my internet, because it has NEVER happened to another computer in my house. I'm wondering if my Airport isn't causing issues with it...
    I also have serious issues with BOTH of my browsers freezing when I open from sleep. Like the computer takes a few minutes to figure out what it was doing and won't let me switch windows, open a new link or even click on the URL bar. I often have to Force Quit Safari or Firefox (whichever I'm using at the time) and restart them before they work. So now I'm thinking RAM issue?
    I can't bring send thing in till middle of May do to daily use for college, but I can bring it to a Genius Bar (which I'll probably do next week) and hope they can fix it in store. I'm just hoping you can provide some insight here. Help! Should I add some more RAM.. or just have it replaced?

    SA - Click on over to the MacBook forum in Apple/Support/Discussions. You will find many threads about MacBooks intermittently dropping connection. I did not see any mention of this happening with Wake Up or Restart, but that might be related. Looks like the new hardware/software combo is too sensitive or gets confused by other networks.
    No definitive solutions. Some router/Mac reconfigure may make a difference - fixed channel instead of automatic may help if you can choose one different from your neighbors' networks, and maybe different encryption will help.
    If it's a brand new book, you may be able to exchange and hope the next one does not have the problem.

  • Importing EDLs and Reconnecting Media... Who can answer this question?

    Hi, happy holidays! What am I missing here:
    I have an EDL with in and out points from a number of different source files.
    I import the EDL in Final Cut Pro as a sequence.
    I click on the sequence. The edit decisions can be seen in the timeline, with all of the source files designated as offline.
    I select the timeline and attempt to reconnect the media.
    The media reconnects, no problem, but the edit decisions aren't in place. In other words, all of the media files begin at the beginning of the source media files (i.e. 04:00:00:00), rather than at the edit decision in and out points for each of the edits in the timeline.
    Surely I'm just missing a step here, right?
    Thanks, Mtbakerstu

    Hi Jerry,
    The source files have been have been re-encoded with a different codec, but they are exactly the same insofar as duration of the source files, and the timecode hour and frame rate they have been assigned, as well as the name I have assigned the files.
    I am simply trying to trick the EDL into recreating a timeline which utilizes source files which have been encoded differently than the original source files... And the timeline is recognizing these files.... only it won't cue the files up to correct timecode point in the files.
    Hope that makes sense.
    Thanks,
    Mtbakerstu

  • Reconnected audio out of sync (2-part question)

    Hi. I'm reconnecting media on a sequence I imported into my project as an xml. Most of the media relinks fine, but some comes up as having different "media start and end." Why? Also, when I switch timeline setting from 8 audio outputs to 2 (because my system can't always handle 8), some of the audio shifts and is no longer in sync. I'm on FCP 6 and the audio format is 48 khz 24-bit integer; audio files are wavs. Any advice much appreciated. Thanks, -jk

    I figured out part of the problem. It's reconnecting the wav files at 30fps but they were originally 24fps, as is my project and all my media. I realized my easy set-up was at 30fps and I changed it to 24fps. So now it's importing the wavs at 24fps but still giving me attributes error when I try to reconnect media, and they're still off by a frame or two. In some of those clips that frame drifts! Some reconnected auio clips sound fine on audio output of 8 channels but go out of phase by that 1 or 2 frames when I change sequence settings to 2 channels. Ideas? Thanks, -jk

  • Reconnect photos question

    i accidently deleted one of my user folder that had most of my pictures in it
    tried restore and because it was a user folder it didn't come back  Today I
    accidently stumbled on the "reconnect" missing photos function in adobe
    photo shop, some of my deleted photos displayed as thumbnails to "reconnect"
    but of course there wasn't a match to reconnect to on the right side of the screen
    BUT WHAT THIS TELLS ME IS MY PHOTOS ARE SOMEWHERE ON MY PC
    if the thumbnail displayed.  Anyone, please, tell me how I can recover my photos.
    This happened right when my mother died and I wasn't thinking straight and now
    lost most of my pictures of her.  Grateful for any help

    First, you should be posting this in the Photoshop Album Starter Edition forum.
    Unfortunately, Album only stores a thumbnail preview of the images, and a link to the original files on your hard drive.
    If you don't have a backup of the files, and you can't find them on the hard drive (even in the Recycle Bin, for example), then you're pretty much out of luck.
    Depending on how big the thumbnails are, you might consider taking a screen shot of them, but this is really a last resort and will likely produce cheap imitations of the original images. (If you're not familiar with taking screen shots, see this tutorial.)
    There are also data recovery tools, like FreeUndelete, that you might consider using.
    There are also data recovery specialist services that you can pay for, but they are usually somewhat expensive. If you intend to go the route of paying for someone to recover your images, then you need to immediately shut down your computer and do not use it any further until after the data recovery people help you out.

I also have hit the trust button on my iphone but have to continue trusting the computer each time it gets plugged in. Still the phone wont connect to itunes at all to view what is on the phone. How do i fix this connection problem?

    Hey ebe301,
    Sorry to hear about your troubles with your PC. If you are not seeing your iPhone on your computer, then take a look at the link below to walk you through getting that working again. It will have you verify that drivers are installed and working as well as any third party software that may be causing conflicts.
