Recording dropouts, silences and stops

Hi all. I'm really becoming crazy for a problem with my AA3. I would like to use my HP Notebook (Core 2 duo, 2 GB DDR2, Realtek HD Audio, Nvidia 8400M GS, Vista Home Premium 32 bit) for multitrack recording but i can't because the record contains lots of dropouts in the audio, random seconds of silence here and there. Sometimes the record completly stops, timeline goes on, and transport cursor too, but not the wave writing.
I have disabled all the unneccessary things like Aero, desktop composition, net cards (ethernet, wireless, modems) and in fact the DPC Latency Checker show me an acceptable value for a Vista system (always green, min 50 max 300 us, never red spikes). But problems don't stops.
Vista are costantly updated and the hardware too with latest drivers from the HP site. I try to install latest audio drivers from Realtek directly too, but without results.
If i record with another software (like Nero Wave Editor, or Sound Recorder of Windows) i can hear little clicks here and there, but not dropouts and entire seconds of silence like in AA3.. of course i have an issue in the hardware/operating system. But what?
So i'm looking for a hint, or something to investigate, a help of any kind...
Hi.

Have you tried recording to an external hard drive, usb or firewire? Many laptops seem to have 'issues' with audio and on-board hard drive related firmware.
Also, I would be wary of some of the updated Realtek drivers, as it seems that laptop manufacturers rely on dedicated, tweaked versions. With my Acer machine, the Realtek-sourced drivers didn't integrate with the audio-related displays of things like loudness settings or the function keys. Some later drivers made things worse. A later "earlier version than the latest Realtek" driver from Acer helped.
Here I found that removing the Acer "helper" software made a huge improvement to the audio performance, but I gather from other forums that people with different Acer models actually had to do the opposite and install some Acer-specific software.
Maybe HP is struggling with all this as well and maybe the "Tools" would help?

  • Audio recording--files missing, duplicated, long inserted silence, and more

    When we use Captivate 2 to record audio files we find that
    when we go into the "edit timing" option, there are extra periods
    of time--long blank silences--inserted into the project. We have
    also noticed that some clips can get duplicated. We have also had
    issues with the files not saving or, saving, but when we re-open
    the .cp file there are random slides missing their audio files.
    Most of our files are only 4-5 minutes long, but I have been
    working on a 25 minute presentation and it has given me no end of
    problems when i try to save or publish it. captivate stops
    responding and i lose all my audio. any suggestions?

    How large is your Captivate file?
    I've noticed that on closing Captivate with a 100MB file
    there is a significant delay in which Captivate seems to hang. If
    you watch the target directory, the .cp file will "disappear" and
    then reappear after some time, perhaps a minute or more. I'm
    guessing that on my older laptop, Captivate is chugging along
    behind the scenes, manipulating temp files or the like.
    To cope, I'm using a brute force approach in which I have two
    versions of each audio file: a tiny placeholder and the actual
    audio file. The files are named the same but stored in folders
    named Tiny (10 sec of silence) and Big (the actual audio file). I
    use a third folder, named Working, to import audio. From
    Captivate's point of view all audio paths point to the Working
    folder.
    When I'm editing slide 15, I copy the tiny files for slides
    1-14 into the working folder, overwriting the existing files. Then
    I update the audio for slides 1-14, using the library's update
    tool. As a result, the project size slims back down and saving the
    project no longer take so long. At the end, I copy the full files
    into the working folder, update, and publish.
    As you might imagine audio file naming conventions are
    important . You need to be able to see at a glance which audio goes
    with which slides. If I use Captivate to record audio, I export the
    file so I can store it in Big and then rename a copy of a tiny file
    to match it.
    The down side is that the timing on closed captions seems to
    be affected by substituting the tiny file for the full slide audio.
    So, I wait to set up the timing for closed captions until the end
    when I publish using the full files.
    Even as I write this I wince. I certainly hope someone else
    will suggest a more elegant way. My approach is not at all pretty
    I've found it less frustrating than working with a sluggish
    Captivate and putting up with the hangs I experienced prior to
    using tiny files.

  • Sending streaming recorded FLV to end and stop

    I'm having a surprisingly hard time doing this. I have a
    recorded FLV which multiple users are simultaneously pushed into
    starting via a NetStream, streamed off of FMS. What I would like to
    do is allow the presenter to at any time push everyone, no matter
    where they currently are in the video, to the very end of the
    video, and stop the play, and have the last frame/keyframe of the
    video stay up on their screen. How would this be done?
    Thanks.

    Abeall,
    You would need to have the presenter call a function on each
    client connected to put the subscribed netstream at the duration
    point of the stream.
    For example, you could use the NetSetream.send method to send
    a function call to all subscribers like this:
    // This is on all client NetStreams that are subscribed
    // __ns is the NetSteam that you play
    __ns["owner"] = this;
    __ns.receiveMessage = function(){
    this.owner.__ns.seek(__ns.duration);
    this.owner.videoPlayer.stop();
    // Presenter function to set all clients video player to end
    of stream
    // __ns is the NetStream that you publish
    private function onSetStreamToEnd():Void
    __ns.call("receiveMessage", null);
    This will only work for non-live streams.

    The row was not found at the Subscriber error keeps popup and stopped synchronization even after inserting missing record at subscriber - transcational replication.

    Please advise!!!

    Hi,
    This means that your database is out of sync. You can use the continue on data consistency error profile to skip errors. However, Microsoft recommends that you use -SkipErrors parameter cautiously and only when you have a good understanding of the following:
    What the error indicates.
    Why the error occurs.
    Why it is better to skip the error instead of solving it.
    If you do not know the answers to these items, inappropriate use of the
    -SkipErrors parameter may cause data inconsistency between the Publisher and Subscriber. This article describes some problems that can occur when you incorrectly use the
    -SkipErrors parameter.
    Use the "-SkipErrors" parameter in Distribution Agent cautiously

    I rented a video, once it had completed downloading I tried watching it, it plays through half of the movie and stops. Any idea why?

    Whell, it seems there is an error in your song that makes your iPod think the song is over. I`ve had such problems, and the only way to solve this is by downloading the song again, or re-record it. I do this with the KMPlayer, which is a free software, you just have to click capture, and audio.

  • NI PCI 6225: How to start and stop an acquisition using triggers

    Hi,
    Hi already spent two days reading the previous post on start/stop trigger and end up with just a complet breakdown....
    I'm using a NI PCI 6225 for a project on brain activity.
    I want to start the aquisition of 10 channels at 1Khz on a first trigger (i.e. portline 0) and stop it on a second trigger (i.e. portline 1). The duration of the recording should not exceed 5min.
    Any help will really be apreciated as well as some explanations. I'm not an expert but I do can understand if I'm being explained...slowly. I hope this post will not contribute additionally to the/my confusion on this topic....
    Thanks for your attention and help,
    OD

    Hi,
    Unfortunately, it is not possible to stop the acquisition with a second trigger (just start the task). There are some approaches to what you need, but not exactly the same. Please take a look to the next example.
    http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/epd/p/id/5028
    I think the only way to perform what you need will be by software and with all the consideration about timing that you should already know.
    Regards,
    Richard.

  • Why does iMovie project jerk and stop and start in preview?

    I have been making iMovies with iMovieHD for years using photos with the Ken Burns effect.
    Recently after a movie project gets more than a few minutes long with typical audio and transitions, I no longer can preview it without it jerking and stopping and starting.
    Obviously this does not allow me to see what I am doing, how the music matches or doesn't match my photos.
    I have tried emptying the iMovie trash and emptying my finder trash, no change.
    I have made sure there is plenty of hard disk space on my internal drive, where iMovie and the movie file is located.
    Any ideas?

    Hi
    a. Emptying the trash - something I alway avoid - no matter why.
    b. Plenty of free space on internal (start-up) hard disk ? > 25Gb after
    project is captured and edited ?
    c. Deleted iMovie pref file ?
    d. Known trouble maker: Lot's of audio clips. eg > 50 gives a stuttering result
    Mix down audio to one audio clip.
    e. What kind of original material. 12-bit audio or recording in LP-mode (90min
    on a 60min tape) GIVES problems + audio sync troubles.
    f. .mpg4, .avi, .wmv and other ailient file formats also is problematic.
    g. movie stored on an external USB/USB2 hard disk - often troublemaker.
    I use FireWire AND ONLY: Mac OS Extended formatted -
    UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchande DOESN'T WORK

  • Starting and stopping stream capture repeatedly

    Hi,
    I am building a vmail server that captures an incoming, continuous RTP voice stream from a hardware phone and records portions of that stream to disk, based on control messages received (like record/stop buttons for a continuous RTP stream).
    The first time I record, the sound file on the file system is well formatted. Subsequent recordings result in headerless audio files (although the audio data is correctly output to file otherwise).
    The problem is that I need to get header information written to the audio files for subsequent recordings.
    Here is a bit of source code to show how I am starting and stopping recording. At this point, the processor is already created and realized and the MediaLocator is previously initialized:
         MediaLocator recordedML ;
         public void startRecording() {
              try {
                   processor.start();
                   DataSource ds = null;
                   ds = processor.getDataOutput();
                   recordingDataSink = Manager.createDataSink(ds, recordedML);
                   recordingDataSink.open();
                   // starts sticking captured data into a file
                   recordingDataSink.start();
              } catch (IOException e) {
                   e.printStackTrace();
              } catch (NoDataSinkException e) {
                   e.printStackTrace();
         public void stopRecording() {
              try {
                   recordingDataSink.stop();
                   recordingDataSink.close();
                   recordingDataSink = null;
                   processor.stop();
                   processor.deallocate();
              } catch (IOException e) {
                   e.printStackTrace();
    Calling startRecording() and stopRecording() the first time results in a properly formatted sound file on the file system, captured from my incoming RTP stream.
    Calling startRecording() and stopRecording() subsequent times results in headerless audio files.
    So the problem seems to be that subsequent calls to processor.getDataOutput() result in a DataSource that doesn't print a file header.
    What I have tried includes:
    -recreating the processor, but this doesn't work because it seems you can only do this once for a single incoming stream - the processor never reaches the configured state a second time.
    -reconfiguring the processor or re-realizing the processor, which doesn't do what I want either.
    One way that I think this would work would be to write out the audio header manually after the capture is complete, but this seems like a gross hack and I would rather do it through JMF.
    Is there a way to fix this via JMF? Is this a JMF bug or is it intended to work this way?
    Cheers,
    -Jeff

    Hi, I am unfortunately unable to help you but perhaps you could help me. I have a Java GUI that I want to enable to record voice from a mic at the click of a button (stopping automatically if possible) and save to a defined file in the code. Would you be able to help me here? I have tried different source and rejigged things but I cannot seem to get anything working.
    Any help gratefully apreciated.

    Are you sure you can not lengthen the timeout. The
    <cfapplication ...>
    tag allows one to define a specific timeout for a given page,
    as long as
    that is less then the maximum timeout defined in the
    administrator.
    If this is not sufficient for your needs you will need to
    break up your
    process over multiple requests. Just starting and stopping
    the loop in
    a singe request does nothing for reducing the timeout
    threshold of the
    page. You can do this with scheduled tasks, web services,
    and|or the
    <cflocation ...> tag. You will need to pass through
    relevant data about
    what iterations to process, and use some kind of extra
    request storage
    for the results, such as server|application|session scopes,
    databases or
    files.
    Hope that gives you some help.

    Sounds like more than I know how to do. I cant change the
    timeout because its set that way on purpose. I think Ill leave this
    alone for now. Thanks.

  • Starting and Stopping FMLE from command line yields corrupt .flv files

    I am using FMLE to record and live stream TV content. In order to this I am remotely calling FMLEcmd in order to start and stop encoding processes. The problem that I am running in to is that the .flv files generated are corrupt. The odd thing is that if I use the exact same profile XML from the GUI, then the encoding process works just fine and results appear as intended.
    Here is the way my workflow works:
    I start the process by calling
    FMLEcmd /p C:\lighttpd\htdocs\xml\default.xml /l C:\lighttpd\htdocs\logs\log.txt
    then at the conclusion of the recording I call
    FMLEcmd /s "C:\lighttpd\htdocs\files\default.flv"
    When I attempt to open the files using FFmpeg I get a codec error saying that no codecs were detected. When I attempt to open the files in VLC I get a error saying that the media types are "Undf". When I attempt to open or modify the files with flvtool2 I get an end-of-file error. My guess is that my stop command is incorrect and somehow abruptly stopping the stream, but I don't know another way to stop the stream. Do I need to specify a specific stream duration in the XML and make sure to call the stop command *after* the duration has been reached? What would cause this codec corruption when the same profile works properly from the GUI?
    Here is the profile I am attempting to use.

    AFAIK, after placing stop command, FMLE took some time to write proper EOF in FLV. wait ~10 sec for FMLE to complete file writing process and than play in FLV PLayer.
    I tried manually with steps you mentioned and it's working fine for me.I playerd file in Applian Flash PLayer. "http://www.applian.com/flvplayer/"

    Some colors in the HP tri-color cartridges dry up and stop working only a few weeks after purchase.
    The experience that I'm having currently contradicts very good, accurate color from HP cartridges in the past from RGB images that I've printed successfully with this printer.  I've previously got excellent color from the true HP ink cartridges on this Deskjet 4180 printer.
    But today it is obvious that the yellow is not flowing from this cartridge that was installed only a few weeks ago.  And my ink levels are at 50 percent, and they were even higher when I started today... see the screenshots below.
    I'm printing from Photoshop, but for some tests I tried printing from two other applications today but I'm always getting these results that indicate that there is no yellow printing... this is much worse than just a bad color profile.  I'm an experienced photo retoucher and I have a long history of dealing with inkjet printing in the work place with all kinds of printers.
    I know that inks can dry up in their cartridges if they don't get printed with every few weeks and if the printer isn't maintained.  I purchased these new cartridges only about three weeks ago and the first test prints and some prints two weeks ago came out perfect.
    But today this is the result I'm getting... screenshots below show the original RGB image and an actual scan of the bad print results I'm getting, indicating that no yellow is flowing from the HP tri-color cartridge.  And a screenshot of the ink level indicator panel is at the bottom.
    Why is the yellow ink drying up and not flowing so quickly?  How can I prevent this besides doing semi-weekly prints to keep the inks from drying up?  I'm in a fairly humid climat, so dry air is not the problem.  The contact points on the cartridge are clean.
    Does HP guarantee their cartridges for this kind of thing?
    Good color - original RGB image...
    Bad color - actual scan of bad print with no yellow, below...
    Ink levels after test printing...
    Thanks for any help.

    Well, here is the answer I was looking for, only arrived at by way of my own further investigation and experimentation.
    It seems that no matter who I asked about this problem, I always got the same questions and answers.
    For example, the people at the HP 800 number for consumer help, where it seemed I was not talking to someone who was actually familiar with the product, because they came to the conclusion that I need to buy a new HP printer... wow, isn't that a big surprise for an HP employee to say, "Just buy a new one!".
    No one, and I mean no one, would seem to be able to listen to or understand what I wrote in my original question on this thread about how this printer prints fine when I first put in a new ink cartridge, and then just a few weeks later one or two of the colors seem to be dried up and they won't print.
    And it seems that somewhere I read that you need to print a test maintenance print every month or so to keep the inks from drying up... but the inks seem to be drying up in less than three weeks now, even though I used to be able to go for months without doing a print and the inks would still be fine.
    So when I was talking to someone in India, Malaysia or the Philippines at the HP 800 customer phone support number, after going through so much crap about whether this printer was still in warranty just to have a simple question answered you'd think I was trying to launch nuclear missiles and my launch codes weren't current.
    And it was much the same situation to get on HP's "Live Chat" customer service on the net, and then they'd go through the same line of questions and answers as the support people on the HP 800 phone line...
    Q: "Do you have dirty nozzles on your ink cartridges?"
    A: "No, like I said in my original statement, I cleaned those and they weren't dirty to begin with."
    Response: "Because you need to clean those every so often, you know."
    Q: "Did you try cleaning the contacts on the cartridges?"
    A: "Yes, like I said in my original statement, I already did that."
    Response: "Because you need to clean those contacts every so often, you know."
    Q: "Did you try putting in a new cartridge?"
    A: "Yes, like I said in my original statement, this cartridge is nearly new and it shows a 90% ink level."
    Response: "Because you need to put in new cartridges when the ink runs out, you know."
    Q: "Did you do a test print?"
    A: "Yes, like I said in my original statement, I did a test print and that's what is telling me that the yellow and magenta are not printing any longer."
    Response: "Because that's how you can tell if any colors aren't printing, you know."
    So is anyone else seeing a pattern here?  It's not like I'm talking or live chatting with a real human being, but maybe an automated voice prompt system that only has an A, B, C   or   1, 2, 3   type of response system that it's working from.
    The people hear a answer, and regardless of what that question was in the troubleshooting category that they are in, they just have a stock response that seems to bypass what the customer's answer was, so it's like I'm talking or live chatting with a machine that is uttering its responses in a fixed pattern, regardless of what I'm saying.
    HP customer service is like talking to someone who isn't listening, so often they ask their next question, but I just answered that question with my previous answer.
    Like I said, the way it used to be, HP or even after market ink cartridges could sit for months without doing a maintenance print and I would still get a perfect print every time.  And that's pretty typical for maybe an older person who isn't printing prints that often, but they just want to print one every few months or so, like my mom, with her HP printer, who I've been troubleshooting this problem for.
    Or even with my own large format Epson printer or any of the pro level inkjet printers and even IRIS printers that I've used in the workplace over the course of the last 20 years... you could do a print every two months and there was no problem with dried up inks.
    And I know somewhere in the past  I read that the maintenance print that the instructions was recommending be printed only needed to be done every 4 to 6 weeks to keep the inks from drying up, although when I go through the entire full blown PDF instruction manual now I can't find ANYTHING about how often a maintenance print needs to be done... that's right, nothing!
    But on Christmas eve I once again exchanged my last, dried up HP tri-color ink cartridge at a Walgreens store where my mom had purchased it months prior (and the guy was nice enough to exchange it even after 5 months)  which was yet another HP tri-color ink cartridge that had at least two of it's colors dry up after only a few weeks.  At that Walgreens they had been nice enough to replace three prior HP tri-color ink cartridges with the same problem in the last year, and before that three different after market, off brand tri-color ink cartridges from another store had dried up after only a few weeks.
    So the guy at Walgreens told me that now  with HP cartridges you need to do a maintenance test print EVERY WEEK in order to keep the inks from drying up... THAT'S EVERY WEEK YOU ARE NOW SUPPOSED TO DO A TEST PRINT FOR MAINTENANCE.
    Now, you DO NOT need to do one of the test prints where it prints a photo of a pear, which uses quite a bit of ink, but you can just do one of the self test prints where you hold down on the CANCEL button and then press the COLOR COPY button and it prints a quick test page with just a little color and a lot of B&W text, and that's apparently enough.
    And that seems to be enough to keep the ink cartridges from drying up, the way they seem to be otherwise doing so quickly now, as opposed to how HP and other brand ink cartridges used to.
    And in fact, now after about a month, after doing weekly self test prints, the ink cartridges are still flowing well and they just did some full color prints quite nicely... ALERT THE MEDIA AND ANYONE WHO CONSIDERS THEMSELVES HP PRINTING EXPERTS!
    So the questions I would ask myself are these...
    First, why is it that NO ONE at HP customer service knew this, whether it be on the HP 800 phone support or on the HP "Live Chat" with people in India, Malaysia and the Philippines, or even here on the HP Help Forum with so-called EXPERTS from HP?
    Second, how have the inks changed so that in the past, you didn't need to do maintenance prints every week, but maybe every two months at the most, in order to keep the inks from drying up, but now the inks dry up in a matter of less than two weeks unless a maintenance print is done once a week?
    Have HP and other ink makers changed the formula of their inks so they dry up much faster, forcing people to buy new cartridges when the last ink cartridge is still at a 90% level with dried up ink?
    And as a result, are people on the HP 800 customer phone support line and on HP "Live Chat" telling people that they need to buy a new printer, when in actuallity their ink cartridges are just drying up within a new record short period of time?
    You tell me, HP experts.

  • Auto record meeting/ class and view/ share the recording.

    I have integrated my adobe connect account to be able to trigger the meeting from moodle. Any idea how I can get my students to have a recording of their class session once it is completed and view the recording inside of their moodle account? We are an eLearning company.
    Preferably, the meeting/ class session should be auto recorded without the users (teacher or student) having to manually record the session. Our account only has one host enabled. Both student and teacher will enter the class as presenters (classes are 1 on 1).
    Apparently only hosts have the ability to record the class and it would be abit of a bother if I would have to enter every class and record it. Any auto record class/meeting session function?
    Thanks in advance

    was wondering if anyone could help. I need to set this up on my connect
    server. need to force connect to auto record all meetings/ shared meetings.
    this is help file for connect 8 but i'm using latest version of connect.
