I dont know from where recovery catalog is getting the information in bold.
I have crosschecked and deleted archives and resynced the catalog several times. Immediatly after doing that the backup works fine, but the other day its the same thing all over again.
Can some one tell me from where the catalog is getting this wrong infomation about archivelogs???
By the way here is some more info about my target Database:

Do you have any other DBs with the same DBID as the one you are backing up? Are they connect to the same RMAN catalog?

    Hi,
    You can also backup/delete a few archivelog files with RMAN. Log on the the database server with some user in the dba group, set the good ORACLE_SID then :

    when I tried to list all the archivelogs then also I am getting this message -
    RMAN> list archivelog all;
    specification does not match any archived log in the recovery catalog
    I have retention policy of 15 Days.
    Waiting for your inputs.

    Thanks Werner..This means that it is just a message.
    One more question related to Archive Log backups -
    traditionally DBAs used to take backup of an Archivelog by spupplying "alter system archive log current" before taking the backup. somewhat like -
    run
    allocate channel t1 device type 'sbt_tape' PARMS="ENV=(TDPO_OPTFILE=/oracle/TESTDB/tdpo.opt)";
    sql 'alter system archive log current';
    backup archivelog all delete input;
    release channel t1;
    But, since RMAN automatically archives CURRENT redo log at the start of the archivelog backup, do we REALLY need to pass sql 'alter system archive log current'; before starting the archivelog backup in the script?
    RMAN> backup archivelog all;
    Starting backup at 11-MAR-10
    current log archived ===========> RMAN automatically archived the CURRENT redo log
    released channel: ORA_DISK_1
    allocated channel: ORA_SBT_TAPE_1
    related question to this is - Since it generates one archived log everytime it takes the archived log backup, this backup may get hung if the archived destination is 100% full. Is there any way we can take the archive log backup without generating an extra archived log before the start of the backup?
    Thanks,

  • Oracle 9i request wrong archive log name during recovery

    Hello all,
    I am facing a problem with a database 9i Enterprise Edition running on Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition environment. According to the customer, when he takes the database offline using MSCS to take an offline backup, the database crashes when he tries to put it back online... But here a strange thing happens... when the command RECOVER DATABASE is issued, it asks for the wrong archive log... for example:
    The actual sequence is 14322, but Oracle asks for the archive log SID_4322... (in this case we have to rename the original file SID_14322 to SID_4322). I don't understand why it asks for the archive incorrectly... I issued the command ARCHIVE LOG LIST and it says that the current thread is 14322 (which is correct)... every new archive is created with the correct name (SID_143XX)... why is it asking for an archive without the number 1 in this case? Rename all the files to recover a database is not very pleasent job... creating an script to do so is not a solution in my opinion, hehe. Thanks for your help in advance.

    Hello Damorgan,
    MSCS = Microsoft Cluster Services (it's an MMC console). The backup strategy is very old, and they use BR*Tools script to create a job on ArcServe Brigstor, and then the backup is performed via backint. (It's an SAP ERP system, which should be backed up using BR*Tools). I checked the alert log and I think that the problem is the length of the archive log name (in the alert log it gives me the error below):
    ARCH: Warning. Log sequence in archive filename wrapped
    to fix length as indicated by %S in LOG_ARCHIVE_FORMAT.
    Old log archive with same name might be overwritten.
    Media Recovery Log E:\ORACLE\SID\SAPARCH\SIDARCH\SIDARCH_43454.DBF <- this should be SIDARCH_143454.DBF
    Now I'm looking for a parameter where I can set the length of the archives, your help would be very appreciated (and please let me know if I'm not going the right way).
    Best regards,
    Bruno Carvalho

    Recovery Manager complete.

    Hi Ora 83,
    What is the reason of this error ? The reason for the RMAN-20242 is there are no archivelogs which comply to the filter "until time 'SYSDATE-2'" at 18 Jan 22:42.
    Probably you run a purge command more frequent because the oldest logsequence available for backup was created at:
    2011 JAN 17 17 00 01 (=sequence=7348)
    and the latest at:
    2011 JAN 18 22 42 01 (=sequence=7354)
    according to your output.
    So for some reason the archivelogs created before 16th Jan 22:42 are not on the system as well as the archivelogs created between 16th Jan 22:42 and 17 Jan 17:00.
    Maybe there are none (you can check in the alertlog and let us know)?
    Regards,
    Tycho

    Some listserves have lots of people giving their number. I find it odd that people would, but not astonishing for someone to ask. Outside the norm here, but how would someone know ahead of time? It's a bravely connected new world.

    Hello SAP gurus,

    Contact person is not listed in those PRP's and Views.

    That's odd.  When you have the Search Catalog enabled, the only two options the user 'should' see is no catalog available or the one you've chosen.
    Perhaps the catalog needs to be replicated and/or cache needs to be cleared?
    Maybe the user has a relationship to another BP that has the view you're seeing or a different Sales Org?
    Sorry I can't be more help.

    Production Backups are Tuesday - Sunday at 22:00:

    I have these files sent over to the development server on Wednesday, RMANbackup (log), backupset and the controlfile:
    rcp -rp /backup/$1/flash_recovery/$2/RMANbackup/* kacdb4:/backup/common/flash_recovery/$2/RMANbackup
    rcp -rp /backup/$1/flash_recovery/$2/backupset/* kacdb4:/backup/common/flash_recovery/$2/backupset
    rcp -rp /backup/$1/flash_recovery/$2/controlfile/* kacdb4:/backup/common/flash_recovery/$2/controlfile
    I run the RMAN Duplicate and the database gets created with no problems!
    The question is: If I wait unit Thursday, to run the duplicate script, I get the traditional RMAN errors: RMAN-03002, RMAN-03015, RMAN-06026, RMAN-06023:

    Is this because of the 'SYSDATE-2' in the RMAN runlist? Does RMAN connect back to the target and it does not find the logs, because they've been deleted, it aborts the duplicate? I've shipped over the backupset and controlfile of the scn I'm using in the duplicate runlist all is there? If I'm trying to cleanup the archive area, would'nt 'delete expired archivelog all' in my runlist, be better than using the 'SYSDATE-2'?
    Or is it because of this database parameter:
    control_file_record_keep_time= 7, should I set this to say 14?
    Is it one of these RMAN configurations:
    Retention Policy to Redundancy 1, should I set this to say 7?
    Datafile Backup Copies for Device Type Disk to 1, to say 3, this takes up disk space which is precious
    Archivelog Backup Copies for Device Type Disk to 1, to say 3, this takes up disk space too
    Archive deletion policy to none change this to the other option?
    I've tested this a few times now, and always fails if the dupicate is not done the next day.
    If I have to create a development database on a Friday from Tuesday's copy FROM TAPE, I will get the error, because the files are no longer on disk.
    What can I do to ensure that I can create an RMAN duplicate any day of the week from Tuesday to Sunday?
    Look forward to your answer.
    Please let me know if I left any details out that you may need.
    Sincerely,
    Elizabeth Burns

    Then, by definition, you did not successfully upgrade anything.
    Open an SR at MyOracleSupport and ask them to advise you as to how to safely fix the mess.
    If you follow a blog post and something goes terribly wrong who is going to lose their job? You or the blogger?oh no no, not going to follow blindly. JUst copy the command out and paste here so that i can show the command.
    I am clearifying whether is there any thing i need pre- task. NOt too sure i need to shutdown completely, backup the rman catalog schema, etc.

    I have had this problem also ever since I updated to 5.3,  I think it is a major bug!
    At random the preview window on the left doesnt show the preview of the presets anymore when I hover them, and when I click back and forth to other images it suddenly starts working again, its a very annoying problem and I cannot believe that Adobe isnt aware of it yet!

  • Rman is backing up the wrong archive-directory

    On a database-server we have two archive-destinations: oraarch01 that must be used for rman and oraarch02 that is used for other purposes. When I start a archivelog-backup with rman, it is using oraarch02 but it should use oraarch01.
    Some more information:
    log_archive_dest_1=location="/data/oraarch01/DB_P", valid_for=(ONLINE_LOGFILE,ALL_ROLES)
    log_archive_dest_2=LOCATION=/data/oraarch02/DB_P OPTIONAL REOPEN=5
    Database-version is 10.2.0.4
    Rman-scriipt:
    run {
    allocate channel d1 type disk;
    backup archivelog all not backed up 1 times format '/data/backup/rmn_%d_%U.bus' delete input;
    delete noprompt archivelog all backed up 1 times to device type disk;
    release channel d1;
    How can I tell rman to stop backing up the wrong directory?
    Thanks.

    You could perform the backup like the following:
    backup archivelog like '/data/oraarch01/DB_P%'
    not backed up 1 times format '/data/backup/rmn_%d_%U.bus' delete input;

  • How to change the First  archive destination????

    I want to change the archive destination of one of live Servers?????????
    -Can anybody tell me what willl be the exact steps to do that...????
    -Do i have to restart my database???????
    Thanks

    Hi,
    You can change your archive destination by using
    LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST or LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_n
    You have to use either of above two parameters(not both simultaneously).
    These both are dynamic parameters(sql> alter system set LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST=......). So It will take affect while server is running. But pls confirm this from other sources also, since I am not sure about this.
    Note : If you are using 10g and if recovery area is activated, then default archive location is flash_recovery_area/archiving.
